To tell the truth, the vague blurb of this novel and the origami on the cover attracted me to the book and I started to read it knowing nothing else.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
I could have put the typical blurb here.
Boy meets girl.
They fall in love.
Live happily ever after.
The end.
But this isn’t THAT story.

Well, maybe because I thought it was something very different, I was a bit disappointed to read a very predictable “second chance in happiness” novel. There was nothing very different or surprising about the plot; once I started to read it, it was very predictable from the beginning to the end. However, it was very-well written, so I read it despite its sad tone and predictability.

Would I recommend it? Well, it’s about "something I’d never prefer to read normally” but as I said, the blurb didn’t tell about it so I had to read and see what it was about and I believe that was the whole point of that blurb!

This is what the writer of this novel says at the end of the book:
“It’s probably not something I’d want to read ... but it’s a story I had to tell.”

So, let me tell you more about it and then, you decide...

The book begins with a perfect love story of two soul mates. It is too good to be true but it is true. There is this "perfect man", a rarely-found love and a happiness that would make you feel that you are the luckiest person on earth. Well, here are a few examples for you to see what kind of love...

“I never thought I’d love someone the way I love you - I think I was made to love you. I used to make fun of love-sick fools like me. Then you came along and changed everything. Now I wish everyone could experience the kind of love we have.”

***

“He kisses me like I’m the ocean and he’s the moon...”

***

“No amount of time will be enough with you. Not a minute. Not an hour. Not a decade. Not a century. But I promise to make all of our time count. I may not tell you I love you every minute of every day, but I try to show you—because true love has to be felt not heard. And our love, B? It’s my favorite feeling. Here’s to tomorrow, and the next day, and the one after that - and all the love that’s shared in between.”

***

“Beautiful?” he supplied. “Magnificent. Breathtaking. I can keep going.”
I cracked a smile.
“Ah, there it is.”
“What?”
“Your smile. Anytime you lose it, it’s my job to find it.”

So, while turning the pages, you wonder how long a love "this good" will last and what will destroy it...

Then comes the sad part of the book. And this is how I felt...

Well, the rest of the book is really sad and depressing but you feel all the emotions the characters are feeling because it is very well-written. Everything feels real, even the raw pain! So, even though you, for sure, know where the story is going, you go on reading to experience it.

“Oh, Ben,” I whisper. “What has become of us. When did our love story become a tragedy?”

“I love him,” I continue, “so much. I’m lost without him. Bring him back to me.”

***

“I’m falling apart... I feel like I’m watching a train speed into a car. I don’t know whether I’m the train or the car … maybe both...”

Then, there is this “happy end” – I mean “a second chance in happiness” but as you may guess, it is a bitter-sweet one and I really really really had a hard time with the “timing of this second chance in happiness” ...

Let me explain my reason of disappointment with the "timing of it" more clearly but don't read this if you are going to read the book or it will spoil it for you:

"Sometimes you have to find the patience to wait for good things instead of seeking it out."

Sometimes you find a diamond in the rough. You search through Amazon looking for that "one book" hoping you find a gem. I'm notorious for reading tons of samples. After reading Micalea's synopsis, I was more than intrigued. I immediately grabbed the sample and found myself one clicking after only a few pages. Next thing you know, it's 1 am and I CAN'T. STOP. READING. Needless to say, thank God I didn't have to work the next day or I would've been a hot mess. Waking up the next morning, I dove right back in. And, WOW, this book was EVERYTHING.

I'm a big believer in fate, everything happening for a reason (even though I know sometimes we won't find out the "why" while we're here. I find that books land in my lap when I need them the most and often it's to teach me a lesson. Micalea's book taught me lots of lessons. It wasn't a story perfectly wrapped with a pretty red bow. It was real, it was raw, it was life. Her writing style is brilliant, you feel as if you are on a journey with these characters and come to know them as your friends. You will fall and you will fall hard. There were times I laughed out loud, and other times where I sobbed, big fat tears and was so grateful that I was home where no one could see me and my ugly cry outburst.

This is not your typical love story, but it is a beautiful one. There is a girl who meets a boy and they share a love so deep, so strong, so incredible that you actually have to catch your breath hoping that some day your own children find a love so pure. Happiness isn't always easy to hold on to and sometimes you have to reach out of your comfort zone to find out where you fit. This is a story that teaches you to never give up, to hold onto your loved ones, cherish each and every moment and know that life doesn't always turn out the way you thought it would, but God is it a beautiful journey.

I know I'm being vague, but I went into this story knowing NOTHING and you should too. Trust me, you do not want this story spoiled for you. This was the first book I've read by Micalea and it won't be my last. Just an incredible, amazing story.

devoured this one. gorgeous, sweet and quite emotional. i think i enjoyed this one so much because i didnt read any reviews. i had absolutely no idea what i was in for and with this book, i highly recommend that!! the blurb is like it is for a reason. well written and engaging. loved it. so much more than a love story, it's also about second chances and healing. i am a hard nut to crack, not sure if it's because i am 7 months pregnant but i was a bit of a weepy mess at times even when it wasnt time to be so.. i dont usually cry in books but this story was beautiful. recommend it!

Th blurb sure ensured I went into this having no clue what to expect.

Here is the overall plot, steer clear if you don't want to know:

Likeable characters but they didn't grip my attention and have me eagerly reading each line and page.

Don't see myself picking this up again. The book didn't pack the emotional punch I was expecting once I realised how things were going - there were moments of sadness but I didn't shed tears or feel my heart squeeze - one or both of those things should have happened. Also the timing of

Got this book because I saw that it had a lot of 5 stars so I thought to myself, "might as well give this one a shot." Boy, was I totally wrong. The story itself could have been a hundred pages less if the author wasn't so hell bent on narrating every single thing each character was doing. The first chapters were okay, but it got to a point wherein I could skip a few paragraphs and still be in the same scene where the character was doing something in her office.

Putting this on my DNF shelf because I cannot bear another paragraph where Blair narrates her entire day in the story basically doing NOTHING.

For a book detailed like this one and written in ten years the ending was rushed and not satisfying... It could be easily a 5 star. I felt all the emotions through my veins and yep i cried like a baby, half of the book though. Reading all the stages and break downs yep those made me ugly cry...
i read handful of reviews not much and read that someone wrote the book was so detailed. Yes I totally agree with those. We didnt have to read all the hair curling and every detail about her day. At the end i had to skip some pages but that ending was really rushed. We read too much emotion ok those pages are really good written but...
1-we read intimate scenes with the heroin in the first chapters those scenes made me connect with the hero and the heroin but then we read nothing but feelings and grieving about that second chance.
2-we read I love yous than whoop 5 years later???? Really ????
Anyway,
1-Yes I recommend this book but believe the blurb and dont read too much reviews.
2-Dont wait a hearts and flowers kind a love story.
3-dont waste your time with tissue papers, they wont last much. Take a roll of toilet paper instead and hold on to it like your life depends on it:)))

I 'm pretty sure that this review is one of the shortest I've ever written, but it's important for you to go into this story completely blind. Even the smallest information could spoil the entire story for you. I'm glad I didn't know anything beforehand. It definitely intensified the experience.
There is actually only one thing that you should know about this book: the story will tear your heart apart before it will put it back together.

Another read that everyone loves but me.
I read this because the blurb gave me very little information about the book which I love. The less I know the more I enjoy a story but I just didn't like this story. It was hard to connect to the storyline. Didn't like Blair at all or the repetitive pages of their love was sickening. Their was no spark between her and Ben. They went to his mums and then he went to work his night shifts. She would see friends, work etc while he slept. They were just too boring.. and then the second half of the book was no different...

I was so close to marking this a dnf but I kept going even though I was struggling to want to read.

The first 7 chapters are a build up of getting to know the characters. This normally wouldn't be an issue but because the blurb didn't give much away it then became more of a guessing and waiting for things to happen.

Throw in the fact that this book almost felt like a step by step on her everyday life. What she done all day including the looks she got from their cat which was constantly annoying. This cat was no sonic.

Then we come to the emotional section which did nothing for me, yes it was sad but I didn't have that gut wrenching connection to the characters but I continued to see how things played out.

The timeline from here wasn't really flowing and hard to follow, having to re read paragraph that she was 20 weeks pregnant but Ben had been gone for 18 weeks. I like books that I don't have to think too much and once again this goes for timeline having inconsistencies.

I also found that as much as she was struggling and having difficulties coping it still felt so rushed for me with Ryder's character and the lust that was happening.

“I’m crying again. I’m so sick and fucking tired of crying and now I’m angry. I never understood the term ‘seeing red’ until now. I seem to see everything through a red-tinged, anger-filled rage. I clench my fists and lean my head back, screaming at the ceiling.
“Blaire?” My mom sounds more urgent now. “You’re scaring me.”
“Let me scream.” I yell through the door.”

Bring Me Back is hands down Micalea Smeltzer’s best novel to date. It’s the kind of book that touches your soul and shatters your heart before slowly putting it back together again. I was asked to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review from the author and of course I said yes!

There are so many words I could use to describe this beautiful book, but the two that stand out the most are: Real and Honest. Bring Me Back deals with one of life’s hardest challenges and the difficulty to explain how you are feeling to anyone that hasn't felt the tragic loss. But Micalea did a wonderful job of playing out the story with genuine emotions. I chose this particular part in the book as an example because when you go through something so life changing and heartbreaking all you want to do is scream at how mad and angry you are at the world, at yourself, at your family, at everything, and it seems like nothing will ever be okay again. I also chose this part because it’s powerful and people can relate to this with all aspects of life.

There are been books that are similar to this one, but I feel like the main focus of those books is sex. The characters use sex in order to cope with their situation or deal with their feelings, and after a while that gets old. This book, however, takes the focus off sex and focuses on the rebuilding of the character. How they learn to adapt and love after heartbreak and tragedy and how to stand strong on your own and that its okay to need help. It's is very different from the norm and I love that about this novel. Everything is spot on from Blaire’s emotions, to the moments of confusion she has, to the constant questioning of everything, it’s all real life. Real emotions that a person in her position would be feeling and dealing with trying to pick up and move on and learn how to love again.

Bring Me Back is, in my opinion, on a level all its own and takes you on the best emotional roller coaster! Do not pass this one up its definitely one of the best of 2016!

5 stars is not a high enough rating for this book in my opinion. My mind is so completely blown right now. I now completely understand why the author doesn't have a blurb for this book. It's definitely a book that you have to read. NOW. Stop what you're doing and read this book. IT.IS.THAT.GOOD!!!!!! To go through what Blaire goes through, and to come out on the other of it like she does and still be able to live her life - I don't know that I could do it. I wasn't sure where the author was taking this story as I started reading, but never in my wildest imagination would I have expected this! After reading her Willow Creek and Us series, as well as a couple of stand alones, she has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I saw a video she posted on FB about this book, and I could not believe my ears when she said that she was only 22!!! With the depth and maturity of her writing, and the way she makes you feel the emotions she projects with her words, to be able to do this at her age is phenomenal! Makes me love her books that much more! I have so much respect for this author and she has gained a lifelong fan!

Tissue definitely is required! I totally started this book not knowing what to expect (the blurb have nothing away) but boy was I not disappointed. I love everything about this story from beginning to the end and all of the characters were complex and perfect. I don't want to spoil the book, so all I'll say is this is a definite must read!

I knew about this book for quite a while before the author surprise released it! I was asked by the author near the middle of April if I would like to read an ARC of this book to give her feedback, and I was sworn to secrecy, so I couldn't mention this book at all lol! I started this book as soon as I received my ARC and I couldn't put it down until I had finished it! It only took me like three sittings to read as well! The plot was also amazing! It will break you as you read it, but it will also give you hope and make you appreciate the people you're surrounded by! I also cried several times at the plot and I did have tears running down my face for the majority of it! It was very sad and emotional, but also amazing and very uplifting! There were quite a few twist and turns too! I also don't want to say too much about what actually happens in the plot as it's something you should experience yourself, and the synopsis doesn't tell you a thing about what happens in it, so I'm going to leave it there before I end up writing a spoiler lol! The characters were also amazing and very easy for me to connect with! Blaire was the main character, and at the beginning of this book she was in the perfect relationship and she had the perfect fiancé and the perfect life! She then breaks down and struggles to get back to the woman she once was! I loved Blaire's strength! She was someone to admire and she always tried her best, even when she was struggling! I just loved Blaire in this book! She worked hard and she deserved to be happy! My heart did go out to her, but she came such a long way in this book, which I loved! Ben was the fiancé of Blaire, and Ben was the perfect fiancé! He was always there for Blaire and he supported her in everything that she did! Their relationship was beautiful and very, very loving! It was also very easy to see the amount of love between the two of them! Ben also did small things for Blaire that were very beautiful too! I loved the whole paper crane thing between them! It was very sweet! Ryder was also another character in this book that helped Blaire a lot on her journey to find herself again! Don't worry, there's not a love triangle between Blaire, Ben and Ryder or anything like that lol! Ryder was a guy that had been through a lot, but had come out stronger on the other side! I loved how much he supported Blaire and that he was always there for her! It was exactly what Blaire needed to find herself again! This book was only written from Blaire's point of view, which I can completely understand! It was only right that it was written from Blaire's and not someone else's as well! I'm going to assume that this book is a standalone! I mean, I could see potential for books for a few female secondary characters, but Blaire's story is finished and the ending to her story was also perfect and left at the perfect place! I would also completely understand if the author didn't give the female secondary characters books! The cover for this book is also stunning! I loved it as soon as I saw it! It suits the book perfectly and actually makes more sense after you read the book too! Big thank you to Micalea for an ARC of Bring Me Back!

There hasn’t been a book that I’ve read from Micalea that I haven’t liked. Bring Me Back is a story about second chance at both life and love. There is so much that I can’t write in this review because I don’t want to give it away. This is a story that everyone needs to experience on their own. But I will say this...the journey that the heroine Blaire goes on in this book is definitely heart-wrenching. You will feel for her throughout the whole book. But I loved seeing her progression as I read on. The characters that surrounded her were so significant. I enjoyed seeing the roles that each one played. This is a story filled with emotions and so much heart. It is well-written with fantastic characters. I was engrossed with every word from beginning to end. One of my favorite parts of the book was the Paper Crane project. When you read it, you will understand but I will say that I loved this idea. It was sweet and would be something that I would love to do. Bring Me Back is a heart-felt beautiful story that will be stuck with you for a long time. I enjoyed every minute that I read it. It definitely touched my heart. A wonderful story!

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
I could have put the typical blurb here.
Boy meets girl.
They fall in love.
Live happily ever after.
The end.
But this isn’t THAT story.

After reading this blurb and several five-stars reviews, I was very intrigued and immediately picked this book up. Although the story was fast-paced and enjoyable, I was rather disappointed. I always felt like I've already read a similar story before... This book reminds me too much of The Air He Breathes which was amazing. I couldn't help but compare these two together.

The characters were likeable but I'm afraid I didn't grow attached to them. I think there is just something missing to the story. However, this didn't stop me from shedding a lot of tears.

this book is completely different from the usual Micalea book but amazing in every aspect! there really are no words to say how deeply touching & moving this book is from start to finish, no words to describe the journey taken while reading. this is a story that demands to be told with emotions that demand to be felt.

a truly unforgettable love story that will stay in your soul forever!

if you read one book by this amazing lady, make it this one. you won't be sorry.

I cried 80% of this book.
It was so sad that I am so glad I didn't read it at work or at the park or some other public place.
I didn't know what to expect but it wasn't the waterworks I got..
A beautiful emotional story of your first love, death, healing, second love, and everything that comes in between. An emotional rollercoaster that has you holding your breath, I felt as though I was one of the characters friends meeting them for their weekly lunch. Definitely a page turner.

BRING ME BACK

I am so in love with this book, I love it so much more because it's not something Micalea would normally write, definitely out of her comfort zone, but I find the books that authors are most nervous about releasing are the best kind of books... This book for Micalea has been TEN LONG BLOODY YEARS in the making and I'm so grateful and happy that she was finally able to write it and release it..
and release she has,
a surprise!! No one knew about it but select few (thankful I was one lucky lady)

I'm not going to lie, this book definitely did destroy me and I wanted to bloody strangle her I cried ALOT through this and I thought the pain would never go away...

Then I was confused and definitely unsure just like Blaine was I felt her emotions I rode the wave with her... But slowly and surely she made me smile and happy again (she would bloody want to) and now this story will definitely stay with me forever and has been added to MY BIG BOOk OF FAVORITES

It was truly a beautiful story....

My words will never do this book justice, it's just amazing...

I love you and Thankyou for sharing story

THIS BOOK will HIT you right in the FEELS!! I cannot say much about it without spoiling it. However, I can say the following: it's a standalone and it has an HEA. I appreciate that this story was challenging for the Author. I have read other books and series by her and this is completely different to those (ALL her books are amazing, by the way). This one is not your typical romance book and that is so refreshing. Sometimes, we as readers, need that change from you typical "boy meets girl"...and this is the perfect story for that. Micalea will break your heart, hold your hand through the journey, and then she will mend your heart until you reach your HEA finish line! I went into this book completely blind and I appreciate that so much! I think if you go in without knowing anything and with an open mind, you will enjoy this journey so much more.

I can count on one hand the number of books that made me cry, but this one tops them all. Several times I had to put the book down because I couldn't see through my tears.

Blaire suffers a devastating loss, one that is impossible to come back from, but it brings about one of life's greatest treasures. She must go through the stages of grief in order to heal. She meets Ryder along the way, and their journey is not an easy one. I loved the paper crane idea, and the Paper Crane Project that arose from it. The story and the grief were so believable and so hart breaking I felt as though I was feeling Blaire's pain along with her.

I loved every page of this book, and feel that it is Micalea's best work to date. I can't say enough good things about this story. I definitely and highly recommend Bring Me Back to everyone.

This started out painfully slow for me and I thought I wasn't going to finish it. Then the 35% mark came and it started to pick up. The writing style was so overly descriptive that it took away from the story. I really didn't need to know the colors of her outfits,it added nothing to the story and led me to some skimming of the pages. I did feel like this story was like a couple I've read already and it became very predictable at times. That being said, I did at times really feel Blairs pain. I liked her dad the most but didn't like how Blair just kind of forgot about Lorraine and Jacob and anyone else that was connected to Ben.

I could not get over Ben at all. A perfect soulmate if ever one existed. I can't say I was disappointed at all with this read. I was in love with him. The story is so realistic and I felt every emotion. I was just devastated the entire way through.

One of the best of Micalea's work!

Seriously, this is by far the best of Micalea's work thus far! This book has heartbreak, and a way to building it back and not in the normal sense of romance stories either! Everything was so real!
