5 luv to the Maxxx stars
“Thor, God of Thunder you may be,” I breathed out, enjoying his lips, “but I’m, I’m Wonder Woman, Queen of Self-control. No way I’ll ever submit to you.”

“We’ll see….”

Mia Roberts

Tricked into going on a research expedition by her boss and ex-lover, Mia sets off on the final frontier. She is not meant for the outdoors, or anything that would challenge her to stay upright. She is a klutz, a vertically challenged woman who has a strong fear of bugs, a big love for bears, cartoons & vintage tee's. As soon as she steps off of the death trap they call the small plane she catches the eye of a big grizzly of a man, one who looks at her with annoyance and wonder.

Max

Max tries his best to ignore the team that comes in, but when he sees Mia, there is something about her that calls on every Neanderthal-protective instinct he has. He has enough on his plate, but when his town is threatened it will take a force of nature to stop him from killing the man responsible. Who would ever thought that the force would be the adorably klutzy Mia...
“You and me, we aren’t done, not by a long shot. I’ll see you later and then we’ll talk about your disappearin’ act.”

“I’ll be busy later,” I informed standing my ground.

“Yeah, you will, but not doin’ what you think you’ll be doin’.”

“I’ll be “doin’” exactly what I planned on “doin’” which doesn’t include “doin’” something with you.”

She drives him crazy and he drives her mad, both completely different from one another but drawn together by something even more powerful then they have control of. As opposite as night and day, we fit together like two puzzle pieces, one clumsy and headstrong and one strong, brave and perfect in every particular. When there's a murder in his town and Mia is put on the spot as the main suspect, it will take her and the wacky town folks to help prove her innocent. And in the meantime she is trapped in Alaska and Max's bed.
“...my lungs locked up when I laid eyes on you, and I didn’t breathe again until I kissed you. You don’t steal air from a drowning man, if you leave I won’t be able to breathe,” he whispered.

“I also have a thing for klutzy women accused of murder,” he grinned.

Max knows she'll be the biggest pain in his ass, but he also knows that she is worth the pain. His time is running out, besides trying to keep her safe, keep her and his mother out of trouble, he has to find a way to keep her by his side forever. Because when you're with your soul-mate, you feel like you've come home.

I love Reason to Kill, its so much better than the first book, which says a lot because I really liked the first book. But there was just something a little bit more in this one, perhaps I should say a little less. The first book gave us an alpha male, sassy female and endless twists and turns where this we get an uber alpha male, an adorably cute heroine and the right amount of twist and turns.

Max, this man is the ultimate man, total alpha male, with a Neanderthal complex and not to mention the sexiest lumberjack ever! Trust me, my imagination was working double time with all that is him, and I swooned and loved every minute of him. Mia was cute, smart and wasn't a pushover, yes she became dumbfounded when ever Max was near, but she tried to give as good as she got. But lets face it when you go up against a man like Max, you will loose, but that doesn't mean you won't make him earn his win. Max's mom was a hoot, dubbed the passion queen, was as big of a pain in Max's ass than Mia. He certainly had his hands full.

The author gives a "WARNING: Author believes in soul mates and insta-love, proceed with caution if you're not a romantic at heart", but in my opinion, it didn't really give me the "insta feel". The easy banter, the combustible sex between the two, was just an added bonus on top of everything else. This is a read I would definitely recommend, when your in the mood for a feel good read, full of laughter, sexiness and mystery. This author has just been wonderful and I can't wait to see what else she has in her arsenal.

Well, this was just what I needed! I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series and this one was just as good! I was laughing with the humour in this one: had me smiling like a goof half the time.

This story is about Mia Roberts, sexy yet clumsy zoologist who is better off behind the desk analyzing research vs. traipsing through the Alaskan woods. However, circumstances bring her to Trails End, Alaska to continue research on the bears in the area.

 photo image.jpg2_zpsfu9jgyqr.jpg

Of course, Mia with her clumsiness, immediately catches the eye of Lumberjack extraordinaire, Max Hunter. While he wants to ignore "She was too damn everything to be anything but a pain in the ass." He can't deny that she has him by the...
 photo image.jpg1_zpsf6lk6dau.jpg

From there, high jinx, murder and mayhem ensue and the time just flew by reading this! Mia and Max just fit so perfectly together...

And they were not only hot and steamy together but also so sensual and beautiful...soul mates.

"From the first kiss until now, there had been a feeling of home."

This book had a wonderful mix of laughs, hot sex, suspense and just good old fashion true love. Really a great read and makes me wants to go check out those men up in Alaska!

4~4.5 Lumberjack Loving Stars!!!

I really, really enjoyed A Reason To Kill as much as I liked the first book in the series A Reason to Breathe, but there was just something a little bit extra in this one, the author’s sense of humor really shines though. In this book we get a sexy lumberjack alpha male and a klutzy cute bear loving heroine.

Max Hunter is a Lumberjack …yes a LUMBERJACK!!!!. He’s single man who has been hurt in the past and decided it wasn’t in the cards for him to ever really settle down. His life is his family business and a trying to help run his small hometown in Alaska, a town that he loves and would do anything to protect.

Mia is a quirky zoologist who loves bears, is always tripping over her own two feet, and hides behind big nerdy glasses. When she stumbles (literally) into town, Max can’t get the raven haired beautiful klutz out of his head and he soon learns that Mia has disaster (in more ways than one) written all over her.

“She was too damn everything to be anything but a pain in the ass. Long, black hair and crystal blue eyes, hidden behind ridiculously large glasses, she had the figure of a stripper and the look of trouble”
.

Mia is in town to research bears in the area. After one of her collogues and a local resident is murdered, Mia has somehow become the prime suspect and Max has made it is mission to do whatever possible to protect her.

"Because my lungs locked up when I laid eyes on you, and I didn't breathe again until I kissed you. You don't steal air from a drowning man, if you leave I won't be able to breathe," he whispered.

Murder & mayhem aside, this was also a really fun read because of Max’s mother Maxine. Maxine is a riot and I LOVED her character!! She had me smiling huge and laughing out loud several times. We get a bit of Jack & Jenn (Jack is Max’s cousin), which was awesome. All in all great read with a perfect epilogue!!!

This one fell a bit short for me. I really enjoyed the first one but something was missing from this one. Got to about 40% and it just started to drag a bit. I sort of guessed who the killer was too.

Will I read more from this author? Definitely. Maybe it was my mood. Another day, I might have liked it better.

Loved the epilogue. And would love a story about Jack.

LOVED IT! This book had me smiling at page one and kept me totally entertained the whole way through.

This book had so much humor; I swear I laughed liked a mad woman while reading. I thought all the characters were extremely well done. What I also enjoyed very much was the setting and the whole small town environment. Add in a killer on the loose, what more can a woman ask for in a book?

Favorite Quote,

“You want more then take it, all of it, my heart, my cock, take what you want cause it’s fucking yours.”

As you see, Max was quite the dirty talker, some of the things he said to Mia were a complete turn on to me. He was the sexiest Lumberjack that I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading about. He was handsome, Big and strong with muscles that went on and on. Oh and let’s not forget protective and bossy. He knew what he wanted, Mia, and he was not going to take no for an answer so add stubborn to the list too.

Mia, I liked her from the start. She was a pretty, smart, fun, quirky, clumsy, had a great sense of humor and all around an irresistible heroine.

These two just did not jump in bed, it took a little while but once they did, the sparks flew. By the time they realized that they were meant to be together, I really felt they’re connection.

I thought Maxine, Max’s mother was a hoot. Her character added so much to the story and quite frankly without her, the story would not have been so much fun to read.

Of course the villain was a piece of work. The scene where he finally meets his demise had me glued to the pages. It was very intense and I was truly scared for Max and Mia reading this scene.

Some of the scenes with the bears were so heartwarming and other scenes a bit scary, just another thing I truly enjoyed about this read.

In the end we are treated to a wonderful epilogue that wrapped this story up in a very good way.

I’m hoping that C.P. Smith will continue on with this series and gives us Shane’s story. At any rate, I can honestly say that I have found another must read author and will be reading her next book no matter what she writes.

Special thanks going out to Lisa. Her review for this book was SO DARN GOOD, that I just HAD to read.

This is an author that I feel like is overlooked. I really enjoyed her first book, and I like this one even more. Granted, she still needs a heavy handed editor. However, the pacing and humor she gives us just does it for me. I love her almost-ott alpha male, most especially when he's a little bit sheepish (just a tiny bit) I love her ditzy, goofy women with hearts of gold and the strength to not only do the right thing, but to love a guy who's not exactly known for being lovable.

I felt like Smith's tone was a little bit lower key than in A Reason to Breathe, and it worked for me. Her sex is smoking hot but not overly erotic...sensual and passionate, and her lovers really do love. They change each other in the best of ways, and her suspense adds a level of protective cave man to the hero that is understandable. Yeah, this heroine gets a little too brave at times, but her heart is in the right place, and she does the best with what she has. There was a secondary min-romance with the heroine's aunt and a twenty year long lost love that made me swoon. I liked that there was a tiny bit of political agenda thrown in but it wasn't radical or finger pointing...just enough to give the characters a sense of purpose.

All in all, I will definitely be continuing with C.P. Smith's work. This is an author that writes an easy to read, snackable romance without cheese or angst.

AbsofreakinglutelyFANTASTIC

I’d like to address the adorable “disclaimer” this author added. WARNING: Author believes in soul mates and insta love proceed with caution if you're not a romantic at heart.

For me this is the perfect advertisement that says ,

Yes I love soul mates and freaking romance and I adore Heroes that know what they want and don’t waver. Those are my must have’s and I just find that C.P. Smith gives me what I want every single time! Max is by far one of the most “alpha” heroes I’ve read and I’ve read a ton.

He is protective, possessive and loyal and romantic and isn't afraid to lay it on the line.

Where he has this big heart and this honor that just makes him the perfect book boyfriend. But for some reason that word boyfriend just can’t contain all that is Max. He is too much of every thing MALE to have the word boy in there anywhere. So he’s the perfect Hero to me. Mia is feisty and funny and I loved her from the first page. Clumsy yet strong and silly yet serious at times I found her just a pleasure to read.

This had so many laugh out loud moments that I had to keep all drinks far away to keep my Kindle safe from the side effects such explosive laughter. But the romance was stellar and HOT and I adored this couple so much. Passion and attraction that vibrated. A love that grew and at times exploded with sensuality. I was in total romance pleasure overload ..but didn't want it to stop at all.

The secondary characters were so freaking entertaining that at times I found I had a story within a story where Ms. Smith is a master at having the love story not be the only thing making her books epic reads for me. Her stories are more than love , more than friendship and more than just romance. They are a combination of so many amazing elements that I simply DEVOUR them from page one. This was another winner an another addition to my favorites of all times bookshelf.

I have to say that I had some trepidation going into this book. While I enjoyed the author's previous book, I didn't love it. But like the good friend I am, I caved when my friend demanded I buddy read this with her because "it sounds amazing!!!!!!!!" (yes, that's a direct quote).

Just as a little recap to my issues with the previous book...while I like some books that do quick love/insta-love/love at first sight, it has to be done right. And the previous book was too quick for me. The main characters met one afternoon and that night they're throwing themselves into the other's arms. That was just too quick for me. But I bring this up for a reason...this book was MUCH better. The characters still had an instant attraction (there's even a warning about it form the author in the blurb), and that was fine. But there was build up. And I need that build up to feel the connection between them. And this book was done with finesse so that I felt that and was invested in them getting together.

I have to give props to the author because typically when I see ranchers, farmer, or in this case, lumberjacks, I run the other way. I'm a city girl, so much so that just the thought of nature sends me into the need for a hot shower to clean off the dust. But some how Ms. Smith made lumberjacks hot. Not just hot but seriously alpha hot. Now, I'm not sure I'll go out in search of one, and I'm definitely not moving to Alaska (too cold *shudders and pulls sweatshirt on*), but she made Max beyond hot.

A book wouldn't be a book and I wouldn't be me if there weren't a couple issues. Now, I was reading an arc, so this could very well change, but there were a couple of things that bugged me. At one point my blogging-bff-buddyreader friend actually told me to make like Elsa from Frozen and "Let it go". To which I replied "I'm NOT Elsa, and the cold always bothered me anyway."....but I digress. My first issue happens really early in the book. In the beginning, our hero Max sees Mia and Mia sees him. They don't know each other, they're perfect strangers. Mia dubs him Paul Bunyan and proceeds to think of him that way until they officially meet. However, at some point early on, Max starts thinking of Mia by name instead of "the raven haired woman" and yet they've never met. EVER. And there was never a time where someone referred to her by name in his presence (that I recall and since I'm human I could have missed something but since it bugged me I did look). So it left me wondering how he knew her name when they hadn't even met yet?!

My second issue was similar to the first. Mia found herself in a little bit (a lot) of trouble and when she reached for her phone to call the police, she came across Max's number in her phone. Now, she's never called him, he's never called her. There wasn't a scene where they exchanged numbers. So...how did she have his number on her phone!?

So, those were my biggest issues. Once I pushed past them, I was able to enjoy the story. But the mystery remains...were these people psychic? An inquiring mind wants to know! (namely me :D)

***An advance copy of this book was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review.***

*UPDATE* I have it on good authority that my issues with the book (the names and phone number) were brought to the attention of the author and they will be changed in the final version of the book. :)

In C.P. Smith’s second in the Reasons Series, we meet Max. Hot, all alpha-male lumberjack, get ready ladies because flannel just got fucking sexy.

Living in Trails End, Alaska, Max has the life he’s always wanted. Running the logging company that belonged to his father and living the in the wilderness of Alaska where life was simple and beautiful. But that scenery just got a little bit prettier and less simple when a certain dark haired beauty shows up.

Mia has always known she wanted to work with bears, but she never expected that would leave her in the middle of Alaska, her job was the sort that allowed her to sit safely behind a desk – not one that forced her clumsy self into the wilderness.

But Max knows that the feeling of the earth shifting beneath his feet when he first spots this cute, clumsy woman that he’s found the one. Now he just has to boss his way into her heart, convince her that city life is overrated and oh, yeah – keep her safe from the murder that is on the loose.

Although Mia was only in Alaska to track the bears, she finds herself in the center of a whodunit murder mystery with a hot alpha on her tail. As Mia tries to evade Max at every turn, thus proving just what a pain in the ass she really is – but it’s not just Mia that Max has to worry about – his crazy mom doesn’t shy away from testing his patience.

Screenshot_9

Okay. So let me just say how damn sexy this beast of a man was. I loved Jack. But Max. Holy Shit. Best. Ever. He was all kinds of growly – you know the hot kind? Toss you over your shoulder and tell you how it’s gonna be... well that’s Max.

And although we got that great suspense part of the story when it came to the chase for the killer, we got a hot romance that had me laughing out loud. The humor in this was at times in your face, but sometimes it was just so subtle that you couldn’t help but smile as you read through the scenes. I absolutely adored the Scooby-Doo moments and the crazy mom-moments.

C.P. Smith does an outstanding job giving you a romance where you can’t help but fall in love with the characters. The heroines are adorable, the kind that make the worst decisions but mean well – and have something quirky about them the instantly has you eating up every moment with them. And the heroes. Damn. These guys are manly men. You don’t get a custom made designer suit and styled hair. There is no fancy car sitting in their driveway. These are men that drive pickup trucks and wear wranglers while eating a steak and grunting mine as they worm their way into your heart.

Screenshot_10

I knew I’d get a great romance, a bit of suspense and some alpha moments where Max’s possessiveness would set me on fire. But in the end, I got so much more. I adored this story and the characters. I loved getting a bit of Jack & Jenn mixed in here & there. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience of reading Max & Mia’s story, cover to cover, word for word.

If you haven’t yet picked up a book from author, you are missing out. These characters are mature, so even if you’re not a fan of instant love (which can be hit or miss), they aren’t babies who are jumping in feet first – these are characters that have lived enough to see what is in front of them, not wanting to waste a minute before taking the leap (well, at least that goes for the guys).

Another fantastic job by this author to write a gripping story that had you swooning and wondering about the population of hot lumberjacks that are available in Alaska for the taking. I am not certain who will the focus of the next in this series, but I am crossing my fingers that Shane is making a racket in Ms. Smith’s head right now. That sexy man needs to be hit over the head with love and this gal needs to read all about it!

5 Cranky Stars!

What a fun read! Not something I would usually say about a murder mystery, but if you take a chance on this one, you will definitely understand where I am coming from. Some of the characters are absolute, well, characters. The dialogue is witty as well. And the murders are actually very well laid out with surprise twists and turns until the true culprit is caught.

Set in Alaska, Mia and a group of her peers are sent to check up on her company's environmental study of bears. Mia is thrilled to make the trip, not only because of her love of the bears, but also because her boss, who she made the mistake of dating a few times, will not be there. Upon their arrival in town, she immediately is smitten with the most handsome lumberjack imaginable, in a town full of very attractive men of similar persuasion. Although the lumber-sexual movement is lost on me personally, the chemistry between the two is as well written as is the way they annoy one another - which is quite thoroughly.

Starting with drunken karaoke, moving through many mishaps of a not very graceful Mia, an axe throwing contest, memorable townfolk who will keep you laughing long after you finish reading the book (I dare you to try to forget the two women of retirement age who run a passion party business), a surly sheriff set on prosecuting Mia for the two murders, the "vet", and the love that develops between the hero and heroine, this book has wonderfully written characters and settings filled with comedic lightheartedness in the midst of some very serious danger.

This was the first book I've read by C P Smith, but most certainly won't be the last! I've already got another one downloaded and near the top of my TBR list.

We recommend this book to most anyone.

My review:

CP Smith writes some of my favorite alpha males! I love her books because I never have to fear diving right in without having to "check for safety." She never writes about any of my triggers which is so unbelievable nice.

In the last book of this series we met Jack's cousin, Max. He is a lumberjack who always seems to put work first. Even after his girlfriend of a few years leaves him for the big city, he doesn't love her enough to go after her. That is until he lays eyes on Mia. Once he lays eyes on Mia, that is the end of the road for him. This story is filled with insta love/lust - which is never a problem for me, but I did like how Max and Mia both recognized that they are falling very fast. There was some silly drama that I mainly blame on Mia - it's called communication people LOL but I'll take this silly drama over other subject matter that are in books these days ;)

I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the next installment.

This author borrows some of her style from KA and I do enjoy her characters but she could actually write a really good book if she toned down her attempts to be so humorous and made her characters and their actions more realistic. The heroine's clumsiness was over the top, the old people sex toy sellers were a bit much (but kind of funny) and the bumbling idiots trying to solve the murders were just unbelievable. But the good parts are the hero was hot, Alaska is a great setting and it was fun over all. I think my biggest issue, other than too much silliness, was that the heroine is supposed to be a grizzly expert but doesn't seem to realize she shouldn't walk alone in grizzly territory at night and that you never try to domesticate a wild animal like a grizzly, let along let a child hug one (in the epilogue). That is that way you get mauled.

While needing a bit of editing, I still found this an enjoyable read. Written in similar style of Kristen Ashley, the author serves up a steamy romance with many laugh out loud moments. Here you'll find a klutzy, adorable heroine, a big, sexy alpha lumberjack, a cast of quirky, lovable secondary characters, and a fairly easy to solve murder mystery.

All in all, a fun, sexy read! Definitely will try more in this series!

Another fabulous read from this author!

This book was a HOOT! I laughed out loud so many times I was getting odd looks from people on the bus! *lol* I gave this one a slightly lower rating then the first for a couple of reasons.

One, the Annie stuff. It was great to see a hero actually treat an ex with a modicum of respect, as apposed to treating them like crap they want to scrape off the bottom of their shoes, or as nameless faceless whores. That being said, I prefer my angst between a couple to come from sources not related to the H/h past hook ups. Also, even though in the first book we have OW drama, the heroine just brushes it off as no big deal. The heroine in this one was a lot more insecure.

Two, I thought book one had hotter sex, to me Jack was a lot more "alpha" then Max. I also thought the mystery was stronger in book one. It was pretty obvious from the get go who the baddie was in this one, so no surprise when all is revealed!

This book though had the edge in humor, Max's mother and her friends, the sex parties, so much funny! *lol* I am really enjoying this author a lot and hope me get to see a book about Shane soon! It seemed like maybe it was hinted upon, so I guess we will see!

Oh well, will you look at that! Can't wait until March!! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

First and foremost, I need to find myself a lumberjack, pronto. Preferably one who is tall, dark and handsome and goes by the name of Max hunter ;) I have to say, I really enjoyed C.P. Smiths's A Reason to Breathe, but, by far, I found A Reason to Kill way better! I don't know what it was about Mad Max, but he pushed all my buttons in the best ways. (Maybe it had something to do with Wet Max, or better yet, Naked Max ;) )

I absolutely loved this book. It captivated my interest from the first page until the last, and I was so sad it was over! I seriously considered starting from the beginning and reading it again!

Mia Roberts is a Zoologist who got duped by her douche bag boss to go on a trip to Alaska to check on some bears they've been studying for several years. She's, well in her words, vertically challenged. A nice way of saying she's incredibly clumsy. She's also smart, funny, has the body of a stripper, and dresses like a dork, albeit with kickass t-shirts! She's my kind of girl in that she's not exactly a fan of the outdoors and loathes all things creepy crawly, so this trip isn't exactly the highlight for her.

My Mia:

Max Hunter is sex on a stick. He's a lumberjack who has lived in Trails End his whole life and owns a logging business that helps keep his town and its people thriving. He also isn't looking to settle down, especially with a 'city girl' from the lower forty-eight. But with one look at Mia, he knows in his gut she's bound to be a pain in his ass; the kind that he'll no doubt like and want to have around for fifty years or so ;) I never thought I'd be attracted to a man who wears flannel, but I was definitely proved wrong after meeting Max!

“You’ve seen him, he’s, he’s, well, he’s Thor in flannel.”

My Max:

When these two finally meet, it wasn't quite what I was expecting. There were no instant sparks that turned to lust and sexy times. No, it was quite hilarious instead. Too much alcohol, some karaoke, oh and vomiting on hot guy boots. This leads me to another thing I absolutely loved about this book. It was freaking hilarious! I laughed so much throughout the entire story. I found that to be a great bonus to the mystery of who was going around killing people and also the budding love connection between our hero and heroine.

Mia quickly becomes catapulted into the middle of a murder mystery when she stumbles upon a dead body. And seeing as this is a small town, she's quickly adopted by Max's mother who decides they're gonna investigate when the local sheriff isn't moving fast enough. This leads to quite a few funny moments that were somewhat unbelievable but hilarious nonetheless. Max, of course, isn't too happy about this and makes his feelings well known, though they aren't heeded. So we now have Mia, Max's (crazy) mom, Mia's (again, crazy) aunt (who randomly shows up), and another old lady all playing a cross between MacGyver & Columbo. Again, the makings of some pretty funny scenes. And all the while they're searching for a killer, we have a beautiful and well written budding love connection going on between Max and Mia. I have to say, I loved how the author built their connection. Yes, they had an instant attraction to each other, but there wasn't instant declarations of love or even instant falling into bed together. Ms. Smith did a great job with the build up of Max and Mia getting to know each other before they decided to see where things could go. They had arguments and they had reservations from previous relationships they had to work through. There was a few miscommunications and issues, but in the end, it all worked quit quite nicely!

I really loved this book. I think Ms. Smith did a great job with every aspect. The love story was awesome, the characters were all well developed, the mystery was well done, the sexy scenes were hot, and my overall impression was a great book that will definitely become a favorite to reread. The only issue I had, and seeing as it was an arc and I was warned by the author she was in final edits, was some of the editing. Nothing major, just a few misplaced commas or a missing period or a typo here and there. This is usually a big pet peeve of mine, but as I said, it's an arc and to be perfectly honest, I loved the story so much, I didn't care about the rest. I really hope Ms. Smith plans more books for this series because there were quite a few supporting characters I'd like to see more of!

If he was honest, he had a desire for more than just one-night stands here and there. Desires, dreams, whatever the fuck you wanted to call them, but he had them for the right woman to share his life. Unfortunately, he’d yet to meet a woman who stirred his blood enough to care- until today. Fucking hell

3.5+ RATING- I’ve been a fan of C.P Smith since A Reason to Breathe was released earlier in the year. It was a fun debut that showed promise and her follow up novel Restoring Hope (stand-alone) didn’t disappoint either. So I was more than a little pumped to have the chance to read and review A Reason to Kill, her latest release! Although A Reason to Kill is the second book in the Reason series it works just fine as a stand-alone. Events from book one are referred to but only in the broadest sense. If you haven’t read A Reason to Breathe though, it’s definitely worth checking out, I really enjoyed it!

First a warning: This book is silly and fun. Readers that don’t enjoy cozy mystery/romances threaded with humor may not fully be able to appreciate this one! You absolutely cannot take this book too seriously!

So here's the set up: Mia travels to Alaska to participate in a bear study with a group of other scientists. Immediately, she meets Max, a native to Alaska, lumberjack who happens to be the largest employer in the area, and sexy as hell alpha. An instant attraction develops. Couple that with a bit of danger, more than a dash of sexy banter, and a serial killer…and you have A Reason to Kill!

“I’ve wanted to kiss you since you fell off the fuckin’ plane,” he bit out as he leaned in, pressing my back to the mirror.

“You hated me when I got off the plane.”

“Yeah, and I still do.”

“What? When why are –“

“I hate the way my gut tightens when I’m around you. I hate the way I get pissed when another man looks at you. I hate that you wear ridiculous T-shirts that I want to rip from your body, and I sure as hell hate the way your ass looks with a bear’s face coverin’ it. However, what I hate most of all are your lips. The way you bite your bottom one when you’re thinkin’, or the way they’ll eventually look wrapped around my cock.”

“I’m not good with men,” blurted out.

“I’m getting that babe, but what you gotta understand is that it turns me on, not off.”

“You’re turned on?” I asked breathlessly.

“Yeah, and the fact you don’t get that is another thing to hate.”

“Okay,” I whispered.

“You gonna let me kiss you now?”

“I think I’d kind of hate you if you didn’t.”

I really enjoyed several things about A Reason to Kill. Max was a great hero and was very easy to like! Some of his lines were a bit cheesy but still, I swooned. Max’s mom, Maxine, is a total hoot and brought a lot to the story with her zaniness. The story introduces some characters that I hope to see again, namely Shane!

A few things about the book didn’t work as well. I don’t have anything against bears, but I’m not sure I loved the backdrop of the story as it was written. It was a tad bit boring at times. Also, while a quirky female lead is one of my favorites to read, Mia seemed a bit overdone to me. I get that she was a scientist and a bit of a nerd, but all her clumsiness and her bear attire seemed a tad much. Some parts of the story seemed like they tried a bit too hard. Overall, I did enjoy A Reason to Kill, I thought it was a fun, enjoyable read, but I didn’t love it.

I recommend A Reason to Kill for readers that enjoy contemporary romances with a dose of silly, characters that are a bit over the top and zany, and anyone who enjoyed the author's first book, A Reason to Breathe. C.P Smith remains a fun author to read and a must buy for me. Excited to see what she releases next!

Thanks to the author for a copy of this book in exchange for a
honest review.

★Review★

Due to some personal issues recently, it has been a cpl of weeks since I finished this book. But reading back over some of the comments I made as I was reading it, and looking at the the notes on my kindle, I shall endeavour to give a review. Or mainly, probably copy and paste from some of the comments I made on my reading update statuses. (is that right? it does not look right!)

This is my 3rd go with this author, and tbh, after I never quite got over the last book I read of hers, where an ever so clumsy heroine jumped from a moving train, into the arms of the hero........even though she could have you know, just got off the next stop and come back, but whatever, I thought I would give her one last chance, as a LOT of my gr friends love her books, but she verges on the OTT ridiculous for me, and I kind of do not like how she writes heroines. They are clumsy, or ditzy, and always always TSTL. It is like they are written to be kooky, quirky and cute, but they come across as just dumb.

For me, it is just too OTT and crazy......a bit try hard funny but instead it is just ridiculous.

The heroine had been here 4 days, FOUR! And, fallen in lust with the hero, been interrupted umpteen times from making out, found two dead bodies, ran off a cliff (because as she keeps telling us, she is just so clumsy) sang karaoke, got rat arsed drunk, vomited on the hero's shoes, been suspended from work, been to a sex toy party, been arrested, and started investigating a murder, with her "crazy" aunt who just happened to show up.

But, she is just go cute an adorable and sexy blah blah blah...

And do not get me started on the running around in the forest with glow in the dark vibrators as your torches ran out of batteries. These people deserve to be eaten by bears!

oh, and Vertically challenged does not mean clumsy! It means short ffs.

A 2.5 stars. As in I read it weeks ago, a lot of shit has happened to me since that time, and I am not fuelled by the eye rolling over ridiculousness of it all, to remember just now much this book annoyed me, so will err on the side of the slightly more positive rating (and 2 stars means ok ppl according to GR)

4 / 5 stars

'"Because my lungs locked when I laid eyes on you, and I didn't breathe again until I kissed you. You don't steal air from a drowning man. If you leave, I won't be able to breathe," he whispered.'

This book was wonderful, I quickly fell in love with the hilarious characters and über attractive alpha hero, and I can see why this author is often compared to KA. Within a few chapters I was captivated by the characters, but what really sealed the deal for me was that it was set in Alaska. I am a sucker for anything Alaskan related, and C.P Smith did quirky small town Alaska so perfectly. I am quickly becoming quite the fan of this author—she does ridiculous, over the top, romantic suspense like a pro.

Zoologist Mia Roberts ends up flying to middle of nowhere, Alaskan frontier with her team to collect data on the grizzly bears, where she meets Max Hunter. As soon as she steps foot off the plane she makes eye contact with the rugged lumberjack and feels the immediate pull of attraction—something she's never felt before. Despite the glowers he's sending her way and the long list of embarrassing things she's done in his presence, she can't help her feelings towards him.

When her boss, jackass extraordinaire and ex, turns up and starts threatening the town and Max's business, it begins to get all the more complicated. When said boss turns up with an axe in his forehead, unfortunately for Mia, she ends up looking like the main suspect. Suddenly she has to rely on Max, his mother, and the kooky locals to help her out of her mess.

This book had a vivid and ridiculously funny band of characters, with Max's mother operating a door to door sex toy company and regularly housing sex-toy-extravaganza meetings at her home, all women in town welcome. The relationships between the characters were hilarious, and Max and his mother's constant banter had me in stitches.

For me, like I've stated previously while reading C.P Smith, the murder mystery does come across as a prop for creating more drama and a way to create half-cooked amateur detective scenes. I didn't end up minding that the mystery wasn't intricate or exciting because the mess the characters ended up in was enough to carry the book.

Highly recommend to anybody who likes a good broody and grumpy hero, banter and more hilarious drama than you could poke a stick at. Guaranteed HEA and adorable story.

This was an amazing second book to a great series by an author who always seems to blow me away. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end, the story line was great and held my interest. I had guesses of who was "evil but the author kept me guessing. Not only did I like the main characters but this book wasn't just main characters and a load of filler characters, all of the side characters really added to this book and in turn just made this book more interesting and engaging.

Max is as much of a part of his town as cold and he has no plans of ever leaving, his family has lived and run the lumber mill for generations and its a huge reason the small town has survived. Mia was roped into going to Alaska she loves her bears but she is also clumsy and better suited behind a desk, stepping off the small plain that terrifies her Mia and Max see each other for the first time. Max won't deny Mia's beauty but she reminds him too much of a city girl who will leave and never make Alaska her home. Mia unfortunately comes after her boss has made several trips and made the town hate him and now she has a town to get on her side.

When Mia and Max meet neither can deny the sparks for the other but Mia's boss and old flame shows up to claim Mia and cause more problems for the town. After Mia and her boss have a very public run in Mia finds him dead causing suspicion against her. As Mia and Max begin to fall in love more questions surround Mia and her innocence but the more important question Mia seems to have is if Max is already in love with another woman.

Mia is it for Max no woman has made him feel the way he feels with her, but the sheriff has it out for her and wants her in prison as the murders continue to mount. And just when Max is sure he will be able to claim Mia as his she may be leaving and ending what they both want so bad. I really liked this book Max was an amazing hero, he was strong, possessive, determined and just the right amount of pushy. Mia was smart and very likable and perfect for Max. Max's mom shines in this book, Maxine is hilarious and added tons of fun and funny moments to this book that had me laughing out loud.

There wasn't really anything I disliked ablaut this book if I was going to be picky (which sometimes I am*sigh*) the only thing that bugged me a little and left this from being perfect was
**SPOILERS** the OW no he doesn't do anything with her and doesn't want to but when she gets drunk and he and Mia see he leaves Mia without even looking back, ugh I hate that and yes he explains it but I think he should have explained it more to her and apologized a little more, he explains it to her but is more apologetic in his mind that vocally to her, now saying that I completely believed him and believed that Mia was it for him and that he never loved the OW but in my vengeful mind she is still an OW and because of that I hate her just for that :}**END SPOILERS** And thats me and my picky neurotic self.

This was a great book I bought it the second I could and will buy the next one as soon as I can (this seems to be a pattern with me and this author). I can't wait to see who is the hero for book three we meet several worthy candidates that had me planning several book in this series for the author. All in all I couldn't have been more happy, I think this author is amazingly talented and she just continues to grow with each book she writes.

Geeky Mia Roberts heads a research mission to the small mountain town of Trails End. She and her team research Grizzly bears. Mia is a clumsy, nerdy t-shirt wearing, huge geeky glasses wearing girl. She hides behind those glasses and is terrible with men. Honestly the geeky cartoon t-shirts got on my last nerve. I don't think I could take another Scooby Do reference either!

Max took over his family's lumber mill business after his father's death. His company employs almost everyone in the small town so he is held up as the King of the mountain around town. So picture a hot lumberjack!!! Yeah this is how I see Max.......

description

Yes Joe Manganiello is my answer for every hot guy!!!

Unfortunately for Mia and her team as soon as she gets to town one of them end up dead. After that more bodies turn up and she is the number one suspect.

Max is super alpha male and so protective of Mia. I love his neanderthal ways and believe me Mia does some stupid things and needs someone to kick some sense into her! I love how Max and Mia are together but it does take some getting use too. I just couldn't get past the cartoon t-shirts and I can't see how any hot man would find them sexy but to each his own I guess. Oh wait I forgot to mention she has nerdy underwear with bears and cartoons on them too. ^_^ *Shrugs*

My favorite character in this whole book is MAXINE!!! She is Max's mom and runs a sex toy business. This woman was hilarious!!! I wish my mother in law had been half as funny as Maxine! Max definitely has his hands full with Mia and Maxine around!

I really enjoyed this read and as always with C.P. Smith you get a great story. I had to downgrade this book by one star for Mia's character because she just didn't match up with Max. I guess what they say is true. Opposites really do attract!

loved it!!!!!
this was good, really good
we have Max, our alpha, who left the dreams of having a family for the moment to focus on his job...and Mia, our clumsy and adorable female who loves bears more then anything...well i think Max will get no.1 in the love section. They meet in Max hometown...and it seems Mia brought trouble with her.....but don't worry we have Max to protect our lady.
Why i loved it? Well it was fun, Maxine, Max mother, was hilarious, they had a criminal to catch, and cute cubs....i mean BooBoo was a cutie, the other characters were funny as hell, and i loved how the story developed, booya.
can't wait to read to next book, and i gotta say i'm impressed by this C.P. Smith's works so far...goob job there :D
See ya and on to the next book!

After reading a couple of really good but very dark, twisted books, I was after something a little more light hearted. Something that wouldn't have my nerves on edge and my stomach in knots and "C.P Smith's "A Reason to Kill" fit the bill perfectly. Yes I know what you're probably thinking... the title sounds the very opposite of what I was looking for but I can hand on heart promise you that Max and Mia's story had it all. It was definitely a romance novel that had my heart fluttering but add to the equation the crime element which gave it the whole "who done it" vibe, plus a massive dose of comedy that had my sides hurt from all the laughing I did and I was well and truly in book heaven.
"Why me? Why are you so hell bent on this?"
"Because my lungs locked up when I laid eyes on you, and I didn't breathe again until I kissed you. You don't steal air from a drowning man. If you leave, I won't be able to breathe,2 he whispered.

Mia Roberts and her team were sent to Trails End to research the grizzlies. What she wasn't expecting was conflict between her work and the towns folk, and to find herself slap bang in the middle of a murder investigation. To top it off, she'd also caught the eye of one very hot lumberjack by the name of Max Hunter!!!! Jeesh did that man make chopping down trees sexy as hell and flannel... Yup I was ready to buy the husband a whole wardrobe full of the stuff because the way Max carried those shirts off had my heart rate doing all sorts of crazy sh*t!!! Sorry, I detract from the job in hand!!! So yes, back to Mia. Her character was ace and as much as I would love to compare her detective skills to the likes of Nancy Drew or Velma from "Scooby Doo," unfortunately she was more like Shaggy from said cartoon.

Mia wasn't a damsel in distress.. not at all. She was head strong and confident. She was just always in the wrong place at the wrong time and unfortunately, had this habit of constantly putting her foot in it. But she was so cute and clumsy with it, it was hard not to find her just adorable. I was constantly left a huge grin on my face. From her t shirts to her laugh out loud hilarious underwear range, her uniqueness definitely caught the eye of the town's alpha. Where other men would run a mile, Thor God of Thunder (Max) didn't know whether he should throw Mia over his knee with all the pickles she got herself into or kiss her crazy in the hope of knocking some sense into her... I was happy with both to be honest. There was definitely something there and when Max wanted something, he made sure he got it. Boy oh boy was Mia in trouble.
While you're here, we're gonna ride this until we fall off battered and bruised or hold on tight 'cause it's what we both want.
The sexual tension between these two was palpable and I was desperate for that first kiss, that first everything because I knew that when protective, controlling, domineering Max finally got his way, I would find myself blushing and all hot and flustered... yup that absolutely happened. Alpha sex is just the best and Max Hunter did not let me down!!!

The humour in "A reason to Kill" was also bought by the secondary characters. Max's mother was fantastic and her business with Martha and their antics to increase sales and to find the killer had me howling with laughter. These two might be older but trust me, they'd give the young ones a run for their money (much to the embarrassment of Max). Lol.
"Swear to God, I should put you in a home. Burnin' boats, huntin' killers, selling fuckin' sex toys door to door to my men, and now you're draggin' my woman into your games?"

If you're looking for something a little different, something to make you laugh but also swoon at the same time, then I can't recommend this book enough. "A Reason to Kill" had the perfect balance of mystery and suspense (as I donned my detective cap and tried to figure out "who did it" ), plus humour by the bucket loads and of course the kind of romance that has your knees turning to jelly. Go click because I know you won't be disappointed with the journey Max, Mia and their friends take you on. Although part of a series, this can absolutely be read as a standalone. I rated this book 4 Hearts.

I was privileged to receive an Arc of this book.
What can I say? , I seriously loved this book, it had me gripped from the 1st page, I couldn't put it down.
This book has it all Romance, suspense, mystery and most importantly hot alpha men and hot sex.
Mia I love, she is a strong headed, beautiful woman who is a klutz. Seriously she trips over thin air. There are some seriously LOL moments.
Max is an all round hot alpha lumberjack. As soon as he sees Mia literally fall out of the plane when she arrives in Alaska, he notices how beautiful she is but also that she is going to be one big headache, he just needs to decide if she is an headache worth having.
I love Max and Mia together. With them trying to figure out their feelings to one another or rather Mia because Max know exactly what he want, and a killer on the loose trying to frame Mia, it will have you turning the pages unable to put it down.
I loved the secondary characters to, my favourite Maxine (Max's mom) and Jess (Mia's Aunt) they are hilarious the things they get up to.
Highly recommend this book it will have you laughing, left wondering what's going to happen, and you wont be able to put it down.
