Reluctantly journeying to her estranged grandfather's Texas ranch, Jamie Cooper spends her entire summer's allowance rescuing a horse and faces the challenge of taming her, a situation that teaches her about both the horse and her grandfather's true nature.
I liked this book a lot cause it was about a girl on a farm and I can relate a lot. I wonder how Jamie felt about going to live with her grandfather at first on a farm? I thought it was really surprising that she spent all of her $500 dollars on a horse that she was supposed to use all summer, not in just one day. I feel like if I were her grandfather and didn´t have much money I would be angry at her for buying the horse also. I kinda disagreed with how her grandfather wouldn´t help her tame Lucky Lady especially knowing that he used to have horses. I would be super mad at my grandpa if he told me that if I could not get the horse tamed in the next few days it would have to be sold. I was glad when Jamie finally got the horse tamed and her grandpa helped her. If I were Jamie I would have been freaking out if I stepped in a hole and couldn´t run anymore and there was a fire coming towards me. The most intense part was when the fire started coming towards them and Jamie could´t run but I´m glad the kids decided to make a smart idea and go in the creek. I was really happy at the end when grandfather told Jamie she could keep the horse.
Jamie goes to spend the summer with her grandfather in Texas who seems to be depressed and lonely after his wife has died. At first Jamie feels her grandfather really doesn't want her there so she spends time with her friend Arnoldo. On impulse one day they go to the auction house where Jamie impulsively uses her $200.00 to buy a two year old filly. The filly unknowingly brings together Jamie and her Grandfather and turns a strenuous relationship into something more that gives purpose to her grandfather's life. A well-written book from an author who knows horses.
This story is about a girl who goes to stay with her grandfather for the summer. She does not know her grandfather and at first is unsure how they will get along until she buys a horse and he helps her train it. This was a great story that anyone would enjoy!
I read this when I was 10, I think. Lucky Lady is just one of those good, satisfying horse books that every horse-obsessed girl should read. Sadly, it's not very well known. But it is a good book: although it is short, it is full of action, is entertaining, and had a very good ending.
