Of Grace and Sin #2

Die if You Lie

Rate this book
Misha, a successful banker, wonders why he doesn't feel elated. His wife Sayuri has told him to leave home for a month to get his obsession with sex out of his system. Misha takes his guilt-free pass and heads to Mexico City.

There he meets a young woman unlike any other, in the most unlikely of places. She combines innocent idealism with a seemingly insatiable appetite for sex. His lust and heart pull him back to Mexico again and again, where he finds himself increasingly drawn to his young lover.

But as Misha's month of freedom approaches its end, will he be able to tear himself away from the arms of this woman with whom he is falling in love? And is everything he believes about Sayuri actually true?

Then another woman enters Misha's life -- one who demands complete honesty. Or else.

My name’s Austin Briggs. I’ve spent over 10 years researching the history of the Aztec Empire and the Spanish Conquest with a dream of creating a historical fiction series that would fascinate readers who like a good history-based tale. I even went so far as to experience some of the magical rites of the ancient Mexica myself.

I’ve always been obsessed with learning about other cultures; in addition to my time in the lands that were once occupied by the Aztec peoples, I’ve also lived in Russia, Japan, England, Switzerland, Cambodia, Lithuania, and Uzbekistan.

I’ve been a soldier in the Russian army, an officer in the United Nations, and a global manager of a Fortune 10 company. I’ve been both a local and an outsider, a member of the majority and of a minority, which I feel makes me somewhat able to write from the perspective of multiple characters, all of whom have various levels of status and acceptance in their world.

We’re often told that history is written by the winners. My stories are told from the perspective of those who lost — though they went down fighting.

My fascination with the Aztec Empire during the time of the Spanish Conquest began because I’m intrigued by the idea of a society that is about to lose itself entirely. I wanted to show how difficult and painful — and sometimes strangely inspiring — that process can be.

Meet Misha and Sayuri a married couple with all the bells and whistles. A glorious home, money, and two beautiful daughters, and still something is missing. Sayuri feels that she can not longer satisfy Misha in the sex department. It’s really very simple. He wants, and she could care less if they ever have sex. She loves him dearly, but a solution must be found.

That being said, I am now torn in my review.

I love the idea of Sayuri’s suggestion to Misha. I also understand Misha wanting more than just sex. I found his trip to Mexico an enjoyable, and satisfying adventure. Alaska makes him happy, and I think he deserves the freedom to seek out his happiness.

On the home front I found Rita to be an very interesting character until her true identity is revealed. I really do not like her. Intentional or not, she’s a terrible person. I must include Sayuri in that opinion also. A little unbelievable what transpires between Rita, Misha, and Sayuri. I know there are crazies out there, but this on is way out there.

I was so disappointed at the conclusion. I just had such a different idea on how I would have liked the ending to be. I was left pacing, angry, and frustrated. To some people I am sure that it was a perfect response, but I am still thinking that Misha has lost his mind through all this. I would have thrown them to the wolves, taken the girls, and followed my heart.

A great story… even if I was unhappy once I finished reading it. I realize that it created a strong response, which normally would be fantastic. I just can’t get past the ending. I find it a bit unbelievable that Misha…ughhh never mind. You will just have to experience and decide for yourself. It is worth the read. 3/5

I am not sure what to think of this book. I had thought I would not like it because it is meant for mature adults but I was pleasantly surprised to find I did enjoy most of the book. I found the psychology and development of various relationships and characters very intriguing and interesting. I felt I could understand Misha to a degree but I have to admit that I still don't get Sayuri all that much. In particular; I was drawn into the evolving relationship between Misha and Tayanna that began with passion (which is a mild way of putting it. I thought my tablet would burst into flames at times) and turned into a sweet love story. Don't be mislead. This is also a suspense novel and I liked the way the author wove between past recollections and present horror. I said I enjoyed most of the book and I think the reason is I felt like there were a few loose threads. I wanted to know what happened to Tayanna, and also Misha and Sayuri's marriage. Was she really a student? Did she use the loan of money the way it was intended? Was she able to get away from her uncle? Did she ever find happiness? Did Misha ever think of her again after he went back to his wife? This novel will not appeal to everyone. It does contain very descriptive sexual scenes that some may find offensive. For myself, it seems to fit the intention of conveying the intense attraction between Misha and Tayanna ( think Fatal Attraction without the psychotic behavior). I am received this book on LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review. .

Misha and Sakuri are married, struggling with a common issue - the husband wants more sex than the wife. The book begins a bit slow, to get to the fact that Sakuri gives Misha a free pass for a month to get "it" out of his system, which sets the premise for the story. Misha flies off, finds himself drawn to an exotic dancer and they embark on an affair. We soon discover that Misha is being held prisoner, forced to tell his story to a mysterious woman. His story, told under duress, is steamy and delves into the relationships he has with the dancer and his wife. I found the beginning of this book reminiscent of a penthouse forum fantasy - man flies to another continent, walks into gentleman's club, sees a gorgeous young woman and she falls in love with him, treats him differently than the other customers. The book was compelling and suspenseful enough to keep me reading, largely because of the woman holding him prisoner, but the characters fell a little flat for me. Misha didn't fight for his family, but instead went off to sew his wild oats and then got caught up in a steamy romp that led to dark places. The sex scenes were well written, the suspense increased, but the emotional connection (for me) was missing. (NOTE: I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review.)

I really enjoyed the first three hundred pages of the book, "Die If You Lie" by Austin Briggs. It held the right amount of mystery and suspense as well as description and dialog to keep me reading for a good part of the day. I was intrigued by the twist of an age-old dilemma: what should a couple do if the love between them seems to disappear? The premise piqued my curiousity.....Did the wife have a hidden agenda? What were the true character of Misha? These questions and more were burning in my brain as I got deeper into the story.

However, after three hundred plus pages, I started noticing a pattern.....the absorbing story was still there, but the romantic encounters between Misha and his lover started to fill the entire story to the point where it took up more space within the story than what originally drew me...which was the intrigue and suspense. I do understand that the story is billed as an "erotic thriller" but I felt that the further I got into the book the presence of the "erotic" overwhelmed the presence of the "thriller."

I recieved this book from LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book so i could give an honest review.

Bahaha well that was one interesting trip. We started off with our story that Misha's wife tells him that they should go on a month break to go have sex with anyone but no feelings. BUT GUESS WHAT? Misha catches feelings for an exotic dancer . The story goes back to Misha trying to be a better man, by helping the young dancer in getting out of some nasty stuff with her uncle. As we read the story of the dancer and Misha, he goes back thinking of his wife, trying to understand what went wrong in their relationship.
There is a twist in this entire novel, Misha gets himself locks up in a room with a murder who wants him to confess everything that he does with the dancer! This piece is jump around alot throughout the story . Which was a good ending twist.

All in all , I enjoyed the book alot. I did learned though that this was book 2 . Which i did not know til I was half way through the book, however you do not need book 1 to start the series, or do you need to read book3 to end it because the author does not leave cliffhangers.

Finally I have finished reading this book! I felt this was awfully long... it maybe because I am not a big fun of erotic stories.

The author of this book is my friend's husband, and he gave me this book free. This is the 2nd book of the series. Misha and Sayumi really remind me of the author himself and my friend. Thus I had worried about them if they are as described as in the book.

To me the romantic/erotic scenes are too much, the suspense happening in between the chapters kept me going.

I am glad that finally I finished reading this book!!

"I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review." This story was a little hard to get in to at first. I was confused as to what was going on, which usually happenes with books that flip between flashbacks & the present. Good story overall. Suspenseful page turner. It had great love scenes, and it told the ups and downs of a married typical couple. Although I don't think wives are handing out hall passes for a month.

First of all, I expected the "you know" scenes, I thought it'd be boring and same old but it was actually pretty interesting. I could feel Misha's despair over having to choose and I think Sayuri was a pretty great trustworthy and kinda stupid to give her husband such "free rein". She should have seen it coming. All in all, this was a great read. I give it a 3.5
