I picked up this book, with absolutely no idea who Simon Moreton is, or what his work had to offer, and in the very short time it took me to read this, I learned more about this stranger than I would if I had watched a 3 hour long documentary on his life or read a 300 page biography on him. I've always loved books that are filled with humanity and emotion, thoughts and expression, and I definitely wasn't disappointed in Days. Who knew buying this book on impulse would shift it from being a simple memory of a purchase I made while abroad to being a favorite that will remain on my shelves for me to revisit?

The sketches were simple, very basic, scribbles of outlines and rough shapes. But they clearly represented more vivid images, deeper experiences and memories that Simon Moreton associated with the materialistic every-day sights of his days.

The Notes section at the end was specially enjoyable for me, to compare my personal impression of the drawings/comics/zines with the actual background stories that inspired their creation. It was a great addition to the collection.

Loneliness, adventures, friendships, challenges & struggles, philosophy, poetry, heart break, fear, education, nature, stability, every day living. In only around 150 pages, I got a taste of all those things, and I loved it more than I expected I would.

Recommended to all.

Although Rob Clough is writing about Smoo #7 in this quote, which is not included in Days, I think it still describes most of the art in Days very well: "Simon Moreton's seventh issue of Smoo continues in his recent, ultra-minimalist style of drawing. Moreton's comics tend to be concerned with the act of walking and landscapes as a kind of mental clearinghouse. Abstracting that walk and the view on that walk down to a few essential lines is a way of digesting and making sense of one's thoughts above all else."

This is one of my favorite pages in the book:

Also, at first glance his art style reminded me of Warren Craghead's, so it was a pleasant surprise to find out that they worked on a flip book together titled Twitching.

Beautiful. The subtleness and the silence in both the words and sketches spoke to me deeply :') Seriously felt some pain in my chest XD Well I guess I've been here before.

Wow. A minimalist comic collection on depression and moving to a new place. I loved the art, so different than what I expect from a comic book. Reminds me of some of the scenes from Fred Gallagher's work, when he's not drawing anime.
