Lieutenant Ferris stumbles on a scandal that could tear his spaceship Jerez apart. Some call it rough play, he calls it unacceptable. A novella in the Aurigan Space Series - prequel to His Guilty Secret. A gay sci-fi romance.
After thirty years of working with the unemployed, coping with threats, tears and broken lives (and these were only from fellow staff), LV Lloyd decided it was time to make her escape. And what better place to go than the world of m/m romance? She started writing Dangerous Tension, her first ebook in the Aurigan Space Saga, years ago, but put it aside due to work and family commitments. In 2012, she dusted off the foolscap pages stored under her bed, finished the story and turned it into a book. Since then, she has written six more ebooks in the Aurigan Space Saga series, and numerous short stories. Gothic Romance is her first venture into a new genre, Historical Romance. LV Lloyd lives in Adelaide, Australia, with her family and two cats. In her spare time she enjoys fishing and visiting the many local wineries. You can visit her at www.lvlloyd.com
All my stories have some m x m action but none of them are rated "18+"
I liked this story until the end.... HOW? I ask... How can an author just end the story during a love scene! Killed it... just killed it! This story kind of reminded me of Blind Space by Marie Sexton. I love that story so if you enjoyed this story then you might want to check it out.
Second in series, lots of angst and romance in a space opera setting. I love the world Lloyd has built. This story was much more flushed out and true to Lloyd's style lots of foreplay, but the actual sex scenes are left to the readers imagination :)
There is no indication as to how far in the future this story takes place but evidently in the time between now and then, the Uniform Code of Military Justice and all the rules against fraternization between officers has been tossed out the window. If that’s the case, fine, but it is very disturbing that rape is so easily dismissed in this future time period. I guess humankind never really advances. All that aside, this story just doesn’t work for me. There is just something dark and sinister seeping through it. And most of all, I really don’t care for the lead character, Matthew Ferris. His treatment of Daniel Peters is unwarranted. Daniel never betrayed him; he was doing his job to stop the abuse. But Ferris made it all about himself and was essentially a jumbo jackass. But the biggest Oh Hell No moment and the loss of several stars is the extremely abrupt ending in the middle of a sex scene. I thought maybe there was a problem with my download, but alas no. That is exactly how it ended.
When I started reading this, a few themes were so similar to the first story that I had to go back and reread that. They are two different stories, but it’s the establishment of life on an all male vessel and most of the consent/power imbalance themes are the same. Two books into the series and they've really beaten the potential for dubious consent with a superior officer into the ground. Surely, in a futurescape like this they would have some kind of system in place to allow for consensual relationships on board an all male vessel to prevent potential drama?
That gripe aside, I liked the pairing here, but it needed more development to establish Matthew and Daniel coming together. It really did better at putting Matthew and Danyel together as possible partners. Just when we start to see Daniel and Matthew communicating to clear up their obstacles they have sex and the story is over. So. That was a little disappointing.
I don't feel comfortable rating this book but Kindle made me
The three stars is subject to change should I read the first and better understand what's going on.
This is book two and I've never read the first. I probably got this as a freebie. I know this as meant to take place prior to the first(?) in the series and I feel like I'm missing context. I have no sense of the setting as it makes out hard to get into.
I will say the motivations of all of the characters are crystal clear. All of the mains are decent guys. The one I know about most is Peters. I find that odd since the POV of the story is all Ferris.
I don't think it's bad but not being the first story in the series leaves me uncertain of what it's all about. If you've read the first book I imagine you'd enjoy this one. I may have to do so myself to get a better picture of what's going on.
I was a bit disappointed in this book because nothing seems to have happened. If the point of the book was supposed to be the hazing, then it finished too quickly and then had a very long epilogue. If the point was supposed to be the romance between Matthew and Daniel then there wasn't enough time spent on their interactions to make a compelling story.
While there's decent build up there's no follow through with a sexual intent. Basically, no sex so I'm out... when I get to the end it just leaves me feeling frustrated that we're not getting anything else.
I liked how this story started. I liked the characters and thought the paced and flow of the story were good. But I wanted more. Sex was inferred and assumed, but none described in action. Did Matthew and Daniel actually get together then as a couple? Did they form a permanent relationship?
L.V. Lloyd has a talent for the writing drama filled plots. I enjoyed this story, a prequel to his Guilty Secret as it shared a new world of exploration and possibilities among gay men in space. The book exhibits sexual tendencies at play that are realistic and unavoidable in any time line, whether it be past, present or future. Lt. Ferris is a strong, well written character with all the right moves. The man has heart and passion. Something that would be unexpected under militant circumstances, yet the author brings this unsung hero to light in a way that left me cheering him on until the very end.
Are you freaking kidding me!!!! I would have given this at least a 3.5 stars had it not been for the very abrupt ending, especially since I waited the entire story for that scene only to not get it.
