Matt Doeden was born in southern Minnesota and lived parts of his childhood in Golden Valley, Minnesota, and Madison, Minnesota. He studied journalism at Mankato State University, where he worked at the college newspaper for three years. In his senior year, he served as the paper's Sports Editor, which put him in charge of the entire sports section, the sports writers, and the photographers. He covered mostly college sports, but also the Minnesota Vikings, who held training camp at MSU.

His work allowed him to meet and interview people like Dennis Green, Cris Carter, Robert Smith, and more. Matt went on to work as a sports writer for the Mankato paper, and then he got a job as an editor with a small children's publisher called Capstone Press, and in 2003 he decided to start his own business as a freelance writer and editor.

Since then, Matt has written and edited hundreds of books. Lots of them are on high-interest topics like cars, sports, and airplanes. He also writes and edits on geography, science, and even math.

As an avid Green Day fan, there's nothing written in this book that I didn't already know. This short book is basically a quick recap of Green Day's life and career. It doesn't go into great detail, but it says enough for you to get the gist of Green Day's incredible journey as an underground Punk Rock band to a Rock & Roll legend. Keep in mind that this book was published in 2006, therefore a lot of the remarkable things that Green Day had accomplished in the following years were not mentioned in this book.

The only thing I found a bit odd were some of the pictures chosen for this book. I came across quite a few pictures where they were blinking. Could the author not have chosen pictures where everyone had their eyes open?

Anyways, I recommend this book to all Green Day fans, mainly the new fans. Punk Rock fans, especially those who enjoy the Bay Area Punk scene from the 1990s, will probably be interested in this book as well. Many people I know these days only know of Green Day for their popular American Idiot album and it's a pity because Green Day had established a name for themselves long before the release of that album. Their journey is quite amazing and inspirational, most people will be pleasantly surprised at how far Green Day has come.
