This is a fantastic resource for middle school history! I love how it covers so much more than just events, highlighting people, places, ways of living, and the like. As a teacher, I found that it worked great as a launching pad; I was consistently creating a bigger picture for my students with outside resources. But I would still recommend this book and the one before it to teach American history.
