Enjoyed this again in its second round. Nice overview of teams' performances and prospects. Interesting essays on a variety of topics by a true fan. Author combines statistical knowledge with baseball sense. I especially credit the comments on baseball (not) appreciating and cultivating black fans. Get it and enjoy! I'll pass this on to my grandson who loves following baseball. My only criticism of last year's edition was the poor copy editing. This year (p. 207) author writes "I tried to do a better job of finding errors in this edition" but he must be referring to statistical errors, because the copy editing (i.e., mostly spelling) was if anything worse than last year. It can't be that hard to read the book over before sending for publication....
Baseball Obscura 2025: A Must-Have Annual for Every Baseball Fan
Baseball Obscura 2025 by David Fleming is a great resource for any baseball fan. It brings back the feel of old baseball annuals with solid analysis of teams and players. The book covers key events from the 2024 season and looks ahead to what’s coming in 2025. It’s straightforward, informative, and enjoyable to read. A good pick for anyone who follows baseball.
Neatly avoiding the sophomore slump, this is another informative and entertaining baseball preview. The essay regarding Oakland's departure particularly affirmed how good a writer Fleming is. Keep 'em coming sir, I'll buy every annual you make.
Author used to work with Bill James. Book is focused on team reviews, though it has short player rankings by position at the end. If you enjoyed the Bill James Abstracts, you will enjoy this book.
Marvelous. As I said last year, a worthy successor to the great Bill James. Gorgeous prose, sad and funny and cynical and hopeful all at once. Worth your time if you care about baseball at all.
