It’s springtime in Savannah, Georgia, in the newest Consignment Shop Mystery from the national bestselling author of Pearls and Poison . The azaleas and magnolias are in bloom—and Walker Boone is on the run. . .

When Reagan Summerside turned the first floor of her old Victorian home into a consignment shop, she never imagined she’d be harboring a fugitive in her attic. But after a dead man is found in a bathtub and local lawyer Walker Boone is accused of doing the dirty deed, she suddenly has a new houseguest.

Having the lawyer who took her to the cleaners in her divorce settlement—and who has been getting under her skin ever since—in close proximity is enough to drive Reagan to distraction. For the sake of her sanity—and Walker’s freedom—they need to put their heads together to find out who is trying to get the lawyer out of the picture . . .

An awesome beginning to Chapter One blasts protagonist Reagan Summerside and her boyfriend, Walker Boone into a dangerous game of charades and deception. Boone is on the lam—accused of killing his daddy—the one who never claimed him when he was a boy, young, broke and living on the streets—old Conway Adkins.

Many so-called friends start hating on Reagan calling her a hypocrite because she’s acting like she’s turned on Boone and wants him locked up. However, once she makes things clear to Big Joey and the Seventeenth Street Gang; they have her back.

Author Duffy Brown excels at penning a southern mystery while inserting comedy like no other writer I know. Be prepared to laugh yourself silly at Reagan, Aunt Kiki, and Chantilly’s shenanigans as they find themselves in all kinds of hilarious scrapes while sleuthing and sneaking around for dirt on some major bad guys trying to frame Boone, or worse. I love this cozy series. I highly recommend y’all read all the previous releases in the series! Enjoy!

Dollycas’s Thoughts

I couldn’t wait to read this story and Duffy Brown does not disappoint. The blurb above does give away something that was unknown by Reagan way past the middle of the book and I am glad I didn’t read it until after I finished the book.

I love these characters. As Reagan and Boone’s relationship continues to evolve I love them even more! They make me laugh, they made me cry, but I am just more emotional these days. The high jinx in this installment were absolutely stellar, but Boone’s poor car!!!

The plot has its edge of the seat moments and enough twists to leave you absolutely dizzy. I was so wrong about the real bathtub killer and I changed my mind more than once. That is what makes stories like this so much fun to read.

I love the way this author writes. Again the dialogue sings and includes the “Cher-isms” I look forward to. The story is also full of Southern charm even though a couple of characters are not very polite to Reagan, bless their hearts, let me pull that knife out that you just stuck in her back. But she doesn’t let it get her down, she gets up, brushes herself off and starts in a new direction.

This the best book in this series so far as Duffy Brown continues to top herself. Another marvelous mystery featuring fantastic characters that will leaving you shouting for more! Both Cher and the real Bruce Willis would agree. Hmmm does Bruce Willis know about his loveable four legged namesake….

Note: DEMISE IN DENIM picks up where the eBook DEAD MAN WALKER leaves off. It would be a good idea to read that story before this one, but not one hundred percent necessary.

This book started out running, and the action and laughs never slowed down. There were more twists and turns in this story than on a rollercoaster. Many times while reading, I was sure I knew who the killer was, only to doubt myself and change my mind. It was a shock when I read who the culprit was, because of course, I was wrong. ;-) Even the very last sentence threw a major surprise my way!

The characters in the series are delightful! Set in Savannah, Georgia, author Duffy Brown knows how to write the sassier side of the south. With hysterical lines like, “Well, buy me a hound dog and call me Elvis”, Ms. Brown will have you talking with a southern accent before you finish the book.

If you enjoy a great mystery, love to laugh, and a can’t resist adorable dog (his name is Bruce Willis!), DEMIS IN DENIM is the book for you!

Walker Boone!!! I think he is what I love most about this series. I wish he had been in this book more. I do love Reagan's adventures and that she doesn't let anything get her down. The mystery was good and kept me guessing. So good and I can't wait to read more!

Demise In Denim is the fourth book in the A Consignment Shop Mystery series.

Reagan Summerside is happy to have Walker Boone's '57 Chevy convertible to cruise around in, but at the same is concerned that he is on the lam for being suspected of killing his father, Conway Adkins. Boone never knew he was his father and that he will be inheriting The Old Harbor Inn, a valuable piece of real estate and a part of Savannah's history. Reagan still hasn't forgiven Boone for doing her wrong in her divorce settlement with her husband, Hollis. But on the other hand, there is something about his physical appearance that pushes her buttons and feels she must find the person that is trying to frame him.

With the help of her Aunt Kiki, Reagan sets off to find the person that wanted Adkins dead, the most. The more she looks, the more suspects she gets, but at the same time she can see that Boone is being framed. Hopefully she will find that person before the police find Boone, as she is sure the police will stop looking to anyone else. She finds that Mason Dixon has wanted the presidency of The Plantation Club, that Adkins had, plus there was money changing hands that might have some bearing. Reagan also starts to investigate Grayden Russell, a somewhat less than reputable land developer, who wants to buy The Old Harbor Inn and other properties. Also a person of interest is Adkins' son, Tucker. Tucker has a problem with alcohol and gambling. He has spent his mother's inheritance and needs The Old Harbor Inn to continue his present life style.

Chantilly and Mercedes, from early books, are back once again to help Reagan and to provide some good ol' Southern humor that we have learned to love in the previous books.

Looking forward to the next book in the series to see what adventures Reagan and Aunt Kiki will have. It will be to check in with Reagan and Boone and see if there is any romance in store for them.

I love this series, and this book did not disappoint me. I love Duffy's style of writing. She adds in just the right amount of humor to make the books so enjoyable. Reagan sure does get herself into some sticky, and messy, situations. This time, she has to try to prove that Walker Boone did not kill his father. Walker is on the lame, but is keeping a very close eye on Reagan, closer than what Reagan ever expected. Besides dealing with all of this, Reagan has major competition in the consignment business. This series is filled with eccentric characters that will make you laugh out loud and it is set in a great location, Savannah, Georgia. I cannot wait for more in the Consignment Shop Mysteries.

This is the fourth book in this series. I've read all the books, but I have to say right now...this one was a disappointment.

I found the so called humor not so funny. It really begin to be annoying. Some parts of the story were just downright unbelievable and to far out to be funny or believable. I like a nice fun cozy mystery, but the so called Southern humor was just to much for this reader, It made me cup of tea turn sour! In other words it just was not my cup of tea....

I fell asleep quite a few times reading this book. I would have enjoyed less filler words and more of a nice flow to the story. All-in-all I liked it enough to award it 3 "Southern Comfort" stars.

This book is a part of my personal library.

Reagan Summerside’s life is never dull. Not even for one single moment. When she moved to Savannah, Georgia and opened her own consignment shop, she never expected to be involved in murder. However, it seems to happen to her more often than not.

This time the prime suspect is her ex-husband’s attorney, Walker Boone. He’s the attorney that helped her ex take her to the cleaners, leaving her nothing but an old Victorian house. Walker and Reagan hate each other. Well, they did until they didn’t. Now, there’s much more to their relationship than meets the eye.

Unfortunately, all that has to take a backseat when Walker and Reagan find a dead body in a bathtub (NOTE: This occurred in the novella Dead Man Walker.) Walker is immediately accused of the crime. So, naturally, he steals her pink scooter and goes on the run. That leaves Reagan with his beautiful ’57 Chevy. It also leaves Reagan with the police and having to answer some not very pleasant questions.

Although Reagan is determined to prove Walker’s innocence, she publicly pretends to be against him in hopes to lure out the real killer. Someone obviously has it in for Walker since he’s being framed for the murder. She’s convinced she’ll gain that person’s trust if she pretends to be on the killer’s side. Of course the lovesick look on her face when Walker’s name is mentioned is fooling no one.

This book starts out at a fast-pace and the action never lets up. It just keeps right on going to the end. The story is a nice mix of mystery, adventure, romance and humor rolled into one delightful yarn. Reagan wins me over more and more with each book. This is definitely LOL material as well as an interesting mystery to figure out.

You can read this book as a standalone, although this particular mystery really starts off in the previous novella, Dead Man Walker. This book gives you enough information so you don’t feel as if you missed anything. However, I think it flows so much better if you read both. In fact, I think reading the whole series from the first book is the best way to go. Although the previous mysteries don’t carry over from book to book, the relationships do. It’s much more enjoyable to read how Reagan and Walker’s relationship went from being bitter enemies to romance. Get in on the ground floor of this fun series.

It saddens me that my time left with Reagan Summerside is so limited. There's only one more book, to the best of my knowledge, and I'll miss her. She gets into scrapes that are mildly reminiscent of Lucille Ball, and her delightful sense of humor has no parallel.

Walker Boone is the lawyer who drained Reagan dry in her divorce. She got a broken-down rellic of a house that she fixed up as best she could with what limited money she had after the divorce, and she blamed Walker Boone for making life so hard. But she's ambivalent toward Boone. Some part of her has fallen in love with at least his good looks, and she can't discount the times in previous books when he has come to her rescue in delightful even rmoantic ways.

But Walker Boone is in trouble as the book begins. He has been accused of murdering a guy who turned out to be his biological father, and the cops are sure he has motive. It's up to Reagan to find ways to clear his name and help him get his life back.

While she's working on that, two gold digger sisters opened a consignment shop in Savannah to compete with Reagan's Prissy Fox consignment shop. They do an amazing job of it, too. Poor Reagan is soon out of business and staring at piles of bills she can't pay. The book is awash in lovable fun characters who will stay long in your memory. Even if cozy mysteries aren't usually your thing, this series is one that will give you a change of perspective.

Demise in Denim continues the story where Dead Man Walker left off. Walker Boone is a wanted man by the police, his brother and Reagan.
Conway Adkins has been found dead in his tub and Walker Boone is the main suspect.
With the help of her Aunt Kiki, Reagan is off trying to find out who really wanted Conway dead and why.
There are plenty of suspects in this fast paced story. Filled with twists that will keep you guessing until the end.
Looking forward to the next book in this series.

Demise in Denim by Duffy Brown picked up right where Dead Man Walker ended and was a roller coaster ride with Reagan, Aunt Kiki, Mercedes and Chantilly all helping to clear Walker Boone of murder. I love this series and Ms. Brown has a great writing style that flows as I followed Reagan trying to follow clues with help from her friends and family. There were several tense moments during this book as Reagan uncovers more information and I could not put the book down. I actually had the villain figured out before the reveal which doesn't happen often. But the ending was absolutely perfect and I'm ready for Lethal In Old Lace which comes out in March.

The murder of a prominent Savannah citizen in his own home has the residents on edge...especially when fingers get pointed toward hunky attorney, Walker Boone, as the killer. Very few people believe that a former gang member turned successful attorney is responsible. Everyone knows that he could orchestrate a hit on someone and walk away without as much as a piece of dust that could point toward him. The murder and it's setting smells of a set up but who did the deed and why blame Boone?

After leaving Reagan a dopey mess after giving her the toe curling kiss of a lifetime, Boone hits the bricks - and Reagan commandeers his Chevy and takes it for a joy ride. You know things are bad when Reagan is trusted behind the wheel of Boone's vintage beauty. Now Reagan and her sidekick du jour (sometimes Aunt Kiki, sometimes not) have to find the real murderer before Boone is found and convicted.

The laundry list of potential suspects continues to grow as Reagan begins meddling into the affairs of several people in town; residents or not. What is the reason behind setting up Boone to take the fall? Could it be the deceased man's son? The out-of-towner wanting to purchase historical buildings for nefarious goings on? The jealous member of the Plantation Club that's been wanting the Presidential position that has been held by the dead man? This is just the beginning and as Reagan continues her hunt for clues and killers, she may just get more than she bargained for.

Plus, the sneaky gold-digger twins are up to no good. Their geriatric husbands are suspiciously absent, causing Reagan to suspect foul play. And then the women do the unthinkable...as if Reagan wasn't already struggling....

The Consignment Shop Mysteries by Duffy Brown are spectacular and always keep me anticipating the next book. Demise in Denim does not disappoint. The story lines are always well thought out and perfectly executed. There is humor tossed in for good measure - I love Reagan's one liners and Aunt Kiki's melodramatic episodes. She always has Reagan's back, however, and they make a great duo. Reagan is snarky, funny, and very enjoyable. Her love/hate relationship with Walker Boone is written so well. Their banter is witty, flirty, and in Demise in Denim, evolves into something else.

Duffy is an excellent writer and I've loved everything she's written. Her cozy mystery novels (the Consignment Shop Mysteries and the Cycle Path Mysteries) are completely engaging from the first page. The character development is well paced and really, by book 2 we get to know Boone and Blondie so well. Reading about them is like being right there in Savannah with them.

I'm a big fan of cozy mysteries - they are one of my favorite genres, in fact - and all of Duffy's books fit into this genre quite nicely. No sex, no language issues, no gory details, very little violence.

Just a note: Dead Man Walker, book 3.5 is only available as an e-version. It's pretty important to make sure you read this installment prior to starting Demise in Denim. Dead Man Walker sets the stage for book 4.

Review
Demise in Denim by Duffy Brown
The 5th Consignment Shop Mystery

I'm a stickler for reading book series in order. That being said, I don't always read the e-book only special editions that periodically pop up in a series. I did, however, read Dead Man Walker, an e-book short story released this February. (You can check out my review here.) I am so glad I did for the whole story of Demise in Denim started back in Dead Man Walker. We found our victim, got some suspects, learned some amazing truths, and found out why Boone is on the run! Plus we got the story from his point of view-a great way to discover what he's really thinking-especially about Reagan. So, although you can read Demise in Denim without reading Dead Man Walker, or indeed any of the previous books in the series, you'll really appreciate and get much more out of the book if you're up to date.

Now Duffy Brown really left me hanging at the end of Dead Man Walker and I was anxious to discover what would happen next. While I was, of course, interested in the mystery-who killed Conway Adkins-I was, and still am just as interested in the relationship between Reagan and Boone. The sparks between them, the will they/won't they combine to make one combustible book. To keep both police and killer, as well as the media away from Walker on the lam, Reagan pretends to hate him and wish him ill, which causes the ire of Walker's supporters, most of whom you'd rather not cross.

Demise in Denim is filled with Duffy's trademark humor and I laughed my way through Reagan's misadventures while rooting for Boone's name to be cleared so he can continue what he started at the end of Dead Man Walker.

Even though I am more focused on the relationship between Reagan and Boone, don't get the idea that there isn't a solid mystery here as well. Duffy Brown gives us a complex mystery with a multitude of suspects, all with great motive and some with evil intentions (aside from murder). There are red herrings and mysterious goings on all rolled up in a fast paced bundle of fun.

Walker Boone is a wanted man. Not just by Reagan, but by the police, his brother and a few other unsavory characters. Why, well from Reagan’s perspective, because he’s drop dead handsome. From everyone else’s, because he will inherit the inn when his dad dies.
Does his dad die? If so, who did it?
This is the next book in the consignment shop mysteries and it’s a great one. Seems like Savannah is a real live soap opera and everyone living there is a star. I love this series. It keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat the whole time. There is mystery, laughs, tension and even a spark of romance. What more could you ask for in a good book?

Really enjoyed Duffy Brown's Demise in Denim. Being the 4th in the series, I will need to read the others. It is necessary for me, but this book could stand alone without a problem. From the beginning to end, Reagan Summerside stands faithfully by her man and is determined to catch whoever is framing him for murder. Follow along as she and her trusty sidekick, BW, get into mishaps as they try to uncover the truth. There are many, well-outlined characters in this book and it was wonderful getting to know them. If you have a craving for a cozy mystery with a touch of romance, then this book will definitely fit the bill. Happy Reading everyone!! :)

This story just tried too hard to be an exciting murder mystery. It wasn't terribly funny. The author used the craziness and at times the phrasing reminiscent of Janet Evanovich. It did make you wonder who the murderer was and that was a surprise. I liked Regan and her boyfriend. Trying to run a business when the customers don't show up is relatable. We never did find out how Walton's car turned out. All in all, very light reading.

DEMISE IN DENIM

Duffy Brown

Berkley Prime Crime
April 2015

Regan Summerside is very ambivalent toward Attorney Walker Boone. Her thoughts range from doing evil things to him because he represented her ex in their divorce and really took the lady for all she had. Lately, however, those thoughts are strictly prurient, and she is desperately trying to clear his name for killing a man. Walker was last seen zooming off on Regan’s pink moped after he had given her a kiss-to-die-for and the keys to his classic cherry red Chevy convertible.

The deceased, Conway Adkins, has so many enemies it would be difficult for the police to pick one in particular. Unfortunately, Boone’s gun did the man in, and the lawyer was also standing over the body that was in a claw foot bathtub. However, one strong argument in Boone’s favor, is Conway left Boone a very valuable piece of property; of course that could also be a viable reason to kill the man who was also Boone’s father that had abandoned him as a child.

DEMISE IN DENIM brings back all of the residents that have lived in this part of Savannah from the beginning (see, read, and enjoy ICED CHIFFON), and they are all just as clever and unconventional as ever. Regan’s luck goes from bad to pitiful starting with a bully of a detective that is out to get her, to some of her best customers trying to put her out of business. And, Boone is going to probably kill her when he surfaces because she hasn’t taken very good care of his pride and joy – his classic Chevy. The punishment won’t start immediately, though, because there’s a beginning to what could be a beautiful romance.

Duffy Brown has penned a delightful and chaotic mystery that is pure entertainment. It’s possible you will have a smile on your face all the way to the very bombshell of an ending.

Reagan Summerside has her hands full, not only does she run the "Prissy Fox" a Clothing Consignment shop but she got the shaft by her ex in a nasty divorce that left her with alot of bills and no car but the no car suddenly changes when her ex's attorney, Walker Boone snags her ride, a pink scooter for his his red '57 Chevy when Boone as Reagan likes to call him is wanted for the murder of his father.

Once sworn enemies because of Reagan's divorce, she is now totally smitten with Boone and has fallen head over heals. But Boone goes on the run from the long arm of the law hiding out in a place closer that Reagan thinks. Reagan then takes it upon herself with the help of her Auntie Kiki and her family and friends to try to prove Boone's innocence but there are obstacles and some terrible mishaps happen along the way but it's nothing that Reagan can't handle especially when theirs a threat to her business. With the list of supects in Boone's father's murder growing she must sort through the suspects until she finds the perfect fit

A edge of your seat, action packed mystery. Very fast paced, never a dull moment. Author Duffy Brown leaves you wanting more. Reagan Summerside is not your typical sweet Southern Belle she has a feisty crime fighting side along with a cast of characters along for the ride. This was a fun and entertaining read especially for me a first time reader to the series. A laugh out loud romp, a delight and a treat to read, I'm so glad I got the chance and I will be on the lookout for the next book in this series.

I've enjoyed Duffy Brown's Consignment Shop cozy series set in Savannah, Georgia, and Demise in Denim is the best of the bunch. Brown's humor and characterizations absolutely sparkle and remind me of what I used to enjoy so much about Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books (without that never-ending romantic triangle).

Reagan Summerside is a good-hearted, funny, yet rather bumbling amateur sleuth, and when she starts snooping with her Auntie KiKi (a former roadie for Cher), or one of her friends Mercedes (house cleaner and makeup artist for a local funeral home) or Chantilly (former UPS driver, now cook for a catering company), you just know there's going to be trouble-- usually the kind that makes you laugh.

I have friends who love to read yet-- for some unknown reason-- have an aversion to Southern accents, and I can report that Brown is skilled in giving readers the flavor of Southern speech without a y'all in sight. I'm not quite sure how she manages to do that, but it is very well done.

Even though I did recognize the guilty party almost immediately, that didn't matter because I was enjoying the characters so much. By book's end, all the loose ends were neatly tied up, and I closed Demise in Denim with a smile on my face. This is a very enjoyable series that I recommend to all cozy lovers.

Oh Duffy Brown, you surely have taken us for a wild and crazy ride with Demise in Denim and I loved every minute of it. And nothing like leaving Regan's fans with a cliffhanger on the roller coaster for an ending. Thanks a lot! Really, it might be good to read the novella available on eread first but honestly if you have read the first books in the series, not necessary to enjoy this one. So full of Southern Charm, and ooga booga superstition or is it really..whether it be in Charleston, SC or right here in Savannah, Ga..the two are connected at the intersection of good food and folklore. And oh my...that Walker Boone- surely he didn't kill his out of wedlock Daddy and how does he keep popping up just at the right time and appear to Regan & BW..Aunt Kiki, Mama the Judge and the cast of characters that provide the old Greek Chorus. Not going long on this review but just know it is one of those cozies that I purposely put down a time or two overnight just so I could continue the ride and read! Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this fun adventure filled with the usual suspects and then some.

I purchased a copy from From My Shelf Books.
Reagam Summerside runs a consignment shop on the first floor of her Vicorian home. She knows her lawyer friend Walter Boone is acused of killing his father. She has to pretend she dislikes him, though her face tells others she cares for him. She does not realize that he has been hiding on her 3rd floor.

With the help of her Aunt Kiki and her friends, Reagan tries to find the guilty party. Walter's convertible and Reagan have many adventures while trying to solve the mystery. In fact, some BBQ winds up spilling in the truck of the car when Rachelle's catering truck breaks down.

I love Duffy's writing. There are many suspects and the reader and Reagan learn who did it at the same time. My alter does not appear in this book even though her name is mentioned as is her mac and cheese. I have to admit macaroni and cheese is one dish that I can cook. As a member of Duffy's street time, I should have no trouble telling people to buy this book, I loved reading it and wish I could have finished it sooner.

Demise in Denim is the 5th book in the Consignment shop mystery series. This is a series I have followed since the beginning. I picked up this one and felt lost and couldn’t understand why. It appears that there was a book 4 released, Dead Man Walker, a short story really at 71 pages, as an ebook only, that prefaced the events in book 5. I usually buy my cozies as paperbacks because I have a group of friends that I trade with so I guess that is how I missed book 4 and besides that I generally don’t buy short stories. I am not sure how I really feel about this. I definitely did not enjoy this as much as the other books in the series, but now that the case is resolved I don’t really want to buy the ebook short story.

When Conway Adkins is found dead in his bathtub with a bullet between the eyes. Reagan Summerside owner of the local consignment shop never imagined she would be harboring Walker Boone who is on the run for supposedly killing Conway. Who he had just found out is his Father. Ross Adkins is his Half Brother and he has his own agenda for getting Boone arrested for murder. Now it is up to Reagan with a little help from Boone and her other friends to clear Boone's name and catch the real killer!
