From the national bestselling author of the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade Mysteries comes the second in a new series featuring Zoe Chase, a Southern food truck chef who serves justice on the side.
With a few loyal friends in tow—including her handsome attorney, Miguel, and her cat, Crème Brûlée—Zoe drives the Biscuit Bowl to Charlotte, North Carolina, to enter a nationally televised food truck race. The contest features challenges across the Southeast, and with a fifty-thousand-dollar grand prize, competition isn’t just fierce—it’s killer.
As everyone gears up for the first challenge, another food trucker from Zoe’s hometown is found dead. The race rolls on, but when the body count rises, police begin to suspect Miguel. Now Zoe must race to catch the killer before her attorney needs an attorney.
Road Trip! Zoe and the Biscuit Bowl crew have entered the Sweet Magnolia Food Truck Race. Ten food trucks from the Southeast are all vying to win $50,000. Sounds like fun and it is until one truck vendors is found dead. What everyone thinks was a crazy accident is soon ruled a murder and Zoe’s attorney friend Miguel seems to be a prime suspect. Now Zoe is after more than 1 prize. The $50,000 and finding the real killer. It couldn’t really be Miguel…could it?
Damn J.J. Cook has done it again! I couldn’t put this book down!
Zoe, Ollie, Uncle Saul, Delia, Miguel and even Zoe’s cat Crème Brûlée are all back and traveling around the Southeastern part of the United States serving up their deep fried bread bowls with some very tasty fillings all to win a prize that would get Zoe a huge step closer to opening up her own sit-down restaurant. They are up for any challenge including wearing roller skates or serving patrons during a torrential rain storm.
This story is just like a show you would see on the Food Network, well maybe not the murder, but you know what I mean. People will go on television and do just about anything for money. The author takes that and turns it sideways to include a murder mystery giving us an extremely entertaining read.
The characters are engaging and all have their idiosyncrasies that cozy readers love. I enjoyed traveling with them from North Carolina to Georgia and home to Alabama. Never a direct route, there was always a monkey wrench or two thrown in along the way. The challenges were interesting and the “seat of the pants” method of producing the show probably happens more often than television viewers realize.
Whether writing at J.J. Cook or their pseudonyms you can’t go wrong reading anything they write. They have something for everyone to love and always have a new book right around the corner. Happy Reading!
I would rate this story 10 Stars, if possible! Zoe Chase and her Biscuit Bowl truck crew including Ollie, Delia, Uncle Saul, Miguel, and, Creme Brûlée, of course, are competing for a $50,000 prize in a nationally televised food show. No sooner has the race and challenges begun when one of the food truck owners has an unfortunate accident. Two detectives start following the food trucks as they drive to different towns for new challenges. There's vandalism, and it's determined there's a murderer at large and no one is safe. As long as Zoe and her team can ace the new challenges the producers keep thinking up, and keep their cool, they have a good chance at the top prize.
Awesome cast of misfit characters who blend so well as they work together. Zoe is a strong female, tender and caring, and still a bit unsure of her feelings for Miguel. Creme Brulee, her cat, is spoiled rotten! You'll find something unique and special about all the main characters in this story and eagerly await the next book, when the Biscuit Bowl Food Truck heads to Mardi Gras!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This review is my own personal opinion, not influenced by anyone else.
A sweet and savory mystery that left me hungry for more!
In this second installment of the Biscuit Bowl Food Truck Mysteries, author J. J. Cook has ensured this series will be around for a long time.
In FRY ANOTHER DAY, Zoe and her friends are on a food truck competition television show. Author Cook really captures the feel of the competition shows I’ve watched. (I think the shows I’ve seen would do well to use a few of the ideas in this book.)
The quirky cast of characters are even more endearing than they were in the first book, DEATH ON EAT STREET. The more time I spent with them, the more I wanted to be part of the Biscuit Bowl truck crew.
The murder of a rival food truck competitor, and countless other catastrophes led to a whodunit that had me completely shocked when all was revealed.
And for foodie fans, there are some yummy recipes included!
With wonderful writing and a flawless plot, FRY ANOTHER DAY has won a spot on my favorites of 2015 list!
Zoe and her team have entered the Sweet Magnolia Food Truck Race. They are hoping that their biscuit bowls will bring home the grand prize. It's all friendly competition until one of the contestants has a suspicious accident. When Zoe overhears the show's host having a mysterious conversation, she quickly realizes that they just became involved in a murder. The show must go on, but will there be any teams left by the time they reach the last challenge?
I've been anxious to read this sequel after finishing up and enjoying the first book in the series. It definitely didn't disappoint. I'm a sucker for a food truck. My husband and I love to stop by and try new ones around Austin and we've also enjoyed watching the Food Truck Race with Tyler Florence on T.V. The race and competition brought a whole new level of entertainment to this book. The author created some great food truck names and came up with plenty of silly antics for the participants to act out. It was interesting to have the teams constantly changing locations. I wasn't sure I'd enjoy that at first, but it totally worked for this story.
All of my favorite quirky characters returned and they definitely brought the comedic relief. I love that they are such a mix of different background and personalities. You get a feel that they truly are friends who deeply care about one another. Ollie in a bikini might be the best scene!! It was fun to see Zoe and Miquel slowly working on their relationship and actually a bit timid around each one another at times. That's how normal people flirt and get to know each other so it's nice to see that portrayed in a book. Uncle Sal, Chef Art and even Creme Brûlée were all great side characters.
The mystery was really well done. There were so many characters since it was a reality show so it took me quite some time to piece together all of the clues and slowly dewindle down the suspects. The next book is even set up to take place in another fun setting - Madri Gras. I'll be looking forward to catching up with this his crew again soon. I wouldn't mind trying out one of their biscuit bowls too!!!
Murder abounds in this second book of The A Biscuit Bowl Food Truck Mystery by J.J. Cook. Zoe Chase as her sponser "Chef Art" affectionately calls her and her crew, including her excentric Uncle Saul and friends Delia and Ollie are embarking and taking a chance in entering "The Sweet Magnolia Food Truck" race to be televised by the food network where they must travel to various states and then head back to their hometown of Mobile, Alabama for the finale where Zoe's "Biscuit Bowl" Food Truck has a chance to win fifty thousand dollars. They must face different cooking and let's just say awkward challenges competing against other food trucks.
It starts with the murder of Reggie Johnson, owner of "The Dog House" food truck also competing in the competition. Zoe then overhears a phone conversation between the host of the Food Truck Competition and an unknown person talking about Reggie's murder with promises of more to come. Zoe then tells a police detective who then finds himself dead after a not so accidental hit and run. The dead bodies start to pile up but yet"The Sweet Maglolia Food Truck Race" moves on to the next destination.
Zoe and her crew have all the minds set on winning the race at the same time Zoe wants to try to track of a killer that is threatening her chances of winning the grand prize. When the police set their sight on her friend, and lawyer and possible new romance,Miguel Zoe must put down her biscuit tray to find a murderer lurking in the fray.
Biscuit bowls and murdered souls. Zoe's passion for food and justice is at the forefront in the A Biscuit Bowl Food Truck Mysteries along with her crew of dynamic and excentric characters especially in Fry Another Day. A Food truck competition, secrets, delicious food and murder. Zoe has it all under control in Fry Another day and it's all in a days work for her. If I could have given this books ten stars I would. Very Fast passed and never dull, every time I hated to put the book down I wanted to pick it up again. The dedication "for foodies everywhere" for a foodie like me I know I would love this book and love is not a strong enough word for what I thought about this book for this foodie.
As a fan of the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade series, was excited to find another cozy/amateur series by J.J. Cook (the late Joyce and Jim Laverne). The characters are awesome, the plot is just twisted enough to have me wondering and the unique approach this team takes makes their books extra fun to read.
This is the second book in the Biscuit Bowl Food Truck Mystery series. Zoe has entered her food truck in the Sweet Magnolia Food Truck Race, which features a grand prize of $50,000. If she wins this prize, it would help her fix up the dilapidated diner to become her dream restaurant. Either way, the publicity would help sales for her own Biscuit Bowl food truck. But on the day of the first challenge, she hears a noise from her fellow competitor's food truck and when the police investigate, they find his body beneath his refrigerator. What originally looked like an accident is soon revealed to be a murder. But the show must go on and Zoe finds herself not only competing in the challenges with her team of Uncle Saul, Ollie, Delia and Miguel as their personal outrider, but she also becomes involved in the murder investigation. I really enjoy this series with its interesting characters. There was mystery, as well as romance with relationships developing between Ollie and Delia and between Zoe and Miguel. As a big fan of Food Network and Bravo food competition shows, I really liked the challenges presented in this food truck race. I also found the antics of Zoe's cat, Creme Brulee, amusing...yes, she even brought along her cat since he is so obnoxious that no one else would put up with him (don't we all know a pet or two like that!). Finally, I appreciated the plot twists and turns in this story that kept the mystery alive. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. Disclosure: I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
J.J. Cook aka Joyce and Jim Lavene, once again has put out a great cozy mystery Zoe competes on the Great Food Truck Race is her famous food truck The Biscuit Bowl. Each chapter has the reader wondering what is to come as the team of food trucks travel from city to city. We are treated to a blossoming relationship between Zoe and Maurice as well as fellow team members on Zoe's team. Of course Creme Brulee is along for the ride and provides a cute side to this adventure. I had trouble putting it down and not continuously reading it from cover to cover in one sitting.
The second book in this series was even better than the first. The characters are evolving nicely. In this story, a food truck contest has Zoe and her crew driving all over the south hoping to win the $50,000 prize. Along the way are murders and mayhem. Love is also blooming. A great and very fun read.
3.5-3.75, rounding up. I loved the food truck race! I just kept picturing "The Great Food Truck Race" on Food Network. I'm still loving the kooky collection of characters. I will definitely continue with this series!
The second book in the Biscuit Bowl series and it did not disappoint! Zoe and her crew are back, this time participating in a reality show with food trucks competing in a race. Before they even have a real chance to begin at their stop in Charlotte, a rival food truck participant is found dead. And it looks like he had a little help in getting that way. Unfortunately for Zoe and Miguel's budding romance, he is being considered a "person of interest" to the Charlotte detectives. As the vandalism, thefts and deaths start to add up, Zoe gets more involved in trying to figure out what's going on. Cause there is no way she is going to let Miguel take the fall for something she's sure he didn't do......
I'm really enjoying this series. The characters are wonderful to follow and it's been nice to see how they were going to develop. Uncle Saul reminds me of everyone's favorite uncle, I can just picture Zoe's mother with how well she is described and I really like Ollie and Delia. Zoe is just wanting what we all want. To pursue our dreams. Hers is getting her restaurant open which is why she agreed to do the race in the first place. The prize money would really help towards making her restaurant up to code and ready to open. It's nice to follow where she's going with that along with what's going to happen with her friends and Miguel. I would highly recommend this book cause, let's face it folks, it's another great one by Joyce and Jim Lavene (writing as J.J. Cook) Disclosure: I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Reader beware, this book will make you hungry... Hungry for all the wonderful food that is described, and hungry for more in this series!
Zoe and her friends are contestants in a food truck race that will be television. Hoping to win the grand prize to open her diner, Zoe gets more than she bargained for. Zoe must not only deal with the challenges of the food race, but she must also gather clues as to who is creating havoc along the way before her friend Miguel is framed. Will Zoe win the race?
J. J. Cook has done a superb job of weaving a captivating tale. I felt completely immersed in the story and felt I was there with the characters. Speaking of which, I enjoyed getting to know everyone better. The story is full of twists and turns keeping you guessing until the end. This story has it all, a little bit of romance, a lot of mystery and suspense, and who can forget all the great food!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Awesome Series! This is an awesome series; this is the second book in the A Biscuit Bowl Food Truck Mystery Series by J. J. Cook. Zoe Chase is participating in a national Food Truck race. The contest feature challenges from North Carolina through Alabama. While trying to get ready for the first challenge in Charlotte, NC a fellow Food Truck competitor is found dead. They found out that he was murdered. The race must go on but when the body count and other issues keep increasing, Zoe must race to catch the killer before they kill another person. The characters are wonderful and funny. This book is an easy read and kept me reading through the night. This book has it all a little romance, humor, mystery, and yummy recipes. I can’t wait until the next book in this series comes out. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
I'm really enjoyed this series and the characters within it!
Zoe, Uncle Saul, Miguel, Ollie and Delia are off on a food truck competition that has multiple stops and a big cash prize for the winner! Before the competition starts, a food truck owner and one of Zoe's local rivals, is found dead. Miguel (Zoe's attorney and love interest) is one of the lead suspects. The gang needs to stop the killer and still be focused on the competition.
This novel really had everything. Multiple murders, a food truck competition and some love stories. I really enjoyed the competition and I was really looking forward to what the next stage would hold. Side note: I HATED the bikinis, I mean really?! J.J. Cook couldn't of thought of anything better?!
I also read my review for the first novel in the series and I am happy to say that Zoe wasn't stuck up at all this novel and I found I really liked her!
I'm sad that there is only one more novel in the series. Hoping there will be more!
Zoe and her friends are back and competing for a fifty thousand dollar grand prize by participating in the Sweet Magnolia Food Truck Race. The Race starts off in Charlotte, North Carolina making its way back to Mobile, Alabama with stops in other states. A murder occurs and Zoe can't help her self and not get involved. Some romances starting to happen as well with Zoe and Miguel and Ollie and Delia. This book has twists and turns and kept me guessing who the killer was. I really like the food challenges that we see in this book during the race. Great recipes at the end of the book. Can not wait for Zoe's next food adventure with the Biscuit Bowl.
I liked the first in this series, and this 2nd entry was just as much fun. Great characters, I especially like Uncle Saul, and a good story. I do hope Zoe gets over her hangups about men. That's a bit of a distraction, but at least there isn't a triangle here. That plot point shows up all too often in cozies anymore and I am MORE than over it. I caught on to who the bad guy was early on, but this story, even with its reality show angle with the food truck race, was a good one. I really would like to try a biscuit bowl!! Recommend!
I think I'm just going to stick to their Sweet Pepper series. This one has potential to be quirky, fun and interesting but it's just not happening for me.
Once again they kept me on the edge of my seat and guessing till the end. I did not see this one coming at all! Love the recipes at the end of the book. I am looking forward to giving some of them a try sometime soon! This is a must read for any mystery and foodie lover out there!

Zoe Chase and her loyal friends, including handsome attorney Miguel, and her cat Creme Brulee, have taken the Biscuit Bowl truck to Charlotte, North Carolina to enter a nationally televised food truck competition. First prize is $50,000 which would go a long way towards her dream of opening a regular restaurant. The competition has numerous challenges including having to serve on roller skates, wear red bikinis, and serve their specialty upside down. The killings, vandalism, and sabotage were not part of the competition. A special police unit has been assigned to follow the race from city to city and they're looking at Miguel as a primary suspect. Unless Zoe can figure out who's behind it all, her lawyer may need a lawyer.
Biscuit Bowl food truck owner Zoe Chase enters a food network competition starting in Charlotte, NC and ending in her home town of Mobile, AL. Along the way, she and her crew face many challenges of varying difficulty, not only with the televised competition, but with dead bodies and a crime spree apparently following the food truck circuit as Zoe and her crew try to win the grand prize of $50,000.00.
I really enjoyed this second installment in the Biscuit Bowl series. It was fun going along for the ride and learning what the new challenges would be for each new segment of the contest as they traveled from city to city. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series. :-)
This was a fantastic read. Zoe and the Biscuit Bowl are in a competition for reality tv. When one of their competitors gets killed it looks like Miguel, Zoe's possible love interest is involved.
I love Zoe and Miguel and really hope to see their relationship flourish into a romance. I love the side characters like Ollie, Uncle Sal and Deliah and of course the cat Creme Brule. The story line was engrossing and kept me guessing till the end. I love the descriptions of the food and would love to have a biscuit bowl and hang out with this gang.
I had never read this author before. It was a mystery about food trucks in a race. They traveled to many different cities and had to do challenges for each one. Food trucks were eliminated after each challenge. People were killed, food trucks tampered with and someone was trying to stop the race. The main character Zoe and her friends figure out who the killer is and come close to being harmed themselves.
It was ok. The romance in it was weak. Found it difficult to believe that a reality show would continue after such events take place...Even in the crazy world we live in. the safety of those participating would come first. Disliked how it was a race. A race to me is not only completing challenges but getting to the next place etc. The only "race" stuff was completing challenges.
The writing often feels a little unpolished and I had a bit of a problem keeping the large cast of characters straight in my mind but it hit all the right notes for a cozy. I'd willingly read others in the series.
This series continues to improve with each book. I love all the characters, except Zoe's parents. I want to strangle them. I hope that Delia and Ollie will make it, that Zoe and Miguel will finally figure things out, and that Uncle Saul and his lady stay together.
