I have to say, the opening scene of this book was a bit disturbing. Having women all attempt to sketch a half-naked male police officer was a shock to my "TV-Y7" sensibilities. While I know that ladies do much worse at bachelorette parties, it was still a bit unnecessary, and I imagine I wasn't the only reader bothered by it.

Despite that unfortunate moment, I stuck with it, and it ended up being a fun "cozy mystery" overall. I have another book from the series on hand; I hope it has the same kind of writing and storyline that made this good...but a different sort of first chapter.

Love is in the air in Fromagerie Bessette aka "The Cheese Shop". The proprietor is Charlotte Bessette. She is organizing a wine and chesse tasting to be held in her shop for "The Lovers' Trail Festival"along with other businesses in Providence, Ohio. Charlotte and her fiance, Jordan, A Chesse farmer, who has dreams of running his own restaurant again plan on getting married, Charlotte's Grandmother is Putting on a play with the Providence Players for the event called "Love Letters" that Charlotte's ex-amish assistant at the shop, Rebecca is decorating the shop for Valentine's day and gets the lead part in along with Deputy Devon O'Shea.

Popular bar owner, Tim is then found dead on Jordan's Cheese farm in a cheese making vat, then instead of a wedding dress Charlotte decides to put on her thinking cap and puts her investigative mind to work to try to find her friend, Tim's killer. Then the local baker, Dottie is found dead on the floor of her bakery found suffocated by one of her own pasteries. Charlotte with her quick thinking discovers that there is a connection to both murders being Jordan's farm fresh Cheese.

Charlotte has a list of many suspects including Councilwoman Belinda Bell as she is reeking havoc all over town. Complaining about the local businesses and is trying to get Charlotte's grandmother to step down from running for mayor.

If this book was made of cheese I would savor each scrumptous morsel. It was that engaging and entertaining. Charlotte is a top notch wanna be detective that loves and cares for her friends, family and community. She is a character that is willing to put her life on hold for justice to prevail and life will be good once again. Again I must comment on Charlotte's diet of mainly cheese wishing I could eat that way.

This was one where the murderer was someone you will least expect and it did make me sad because I started to like but feel sorry for this character because he seemed
that genuine. This was a deliciously riveting and tasty edition to the Cheese lovers mysteries. I loved the references to the different cheese's as a culinary cozy fan I look forward to reading and reviewing the next in this delectable series.

Just days before Charlotte and Jordan are to wed, the body of Tim O’Shea, the local bar owner, is found on Jordan’s cheese farm. The personal nature of the murder leads Charlotte to start investigating to figure out who would want to kill the man who was a friend to so many.

I was surprised when I realized who the murder victim was going to be, but I liked that it made the case more personal to me as well as the characters. The large cast is charming and fun as always. I do grow a little tire of the character’s wild theories (especially Rebecca), but that’s a minor complaint overall.

Great book!

Another great book by this author. I never tire of any of the books in the series because they are well written, have a mystery, the characters are developed well, he enjoyed the recipes and references to different cheeses.

Releasing just in time to enjoy for Valentine’s Day, Avery Aames has another winner in AS GOUDA AS DEAD. This book is based during Valentine’s Day, so it is perfect to get you in the mood. Ummm…for love and chocolate, not murder. ;-) Let’s leave the murder between the pages.

In this sixth installment of her Cheese Shop Mystery series, Ms. Aames once again pens a winning story so full of intrigue, I was on the edge of my recliner with every chapter. This author’s writing is a true gift. Flawless and fluid, her words kept me turning pages long after I had planned. Honestly, it was hard to put this book down. And once I was finished, I found myself sad that it was over.

I absolutely adore her characters. From protagonist Charlotte Bessette, her close circle of friends, fiancé Jordan Pace, and all the other people that make up the town of Providence, Ohio. These characters are enough to make me want to pack my bags and move!

I can’t to mention the food! My very first job was working in a cheese shop. I remember the smells when opening the door first thing in the morning. This series always brings back those smells, and a big case of the hungries for cheese. Thankfully, many delicious recipes have been included for readers to try at home!

Brava on another great book, Ms. Aames! Gouda for you!

Also, check out the back of the book for an excerpt from FUDGING THE BOOKS, the next in the Cookbook Nook Mystery series also written by this author, but under the name of Daryl Wood Gerber. It’s another of my favorite series!

Eh. This one was alright. But Charlotte's starting to annoy me. I've never been overly fond of all the cheese descriptions, but I get it...that's this series' niche. But EVERY one in this town is super into cheese. I don't know one person in my real life who's into cheese even a quarter as much as these people. All the cutesy love letters were just weird. I mean, they made me want to vomit a little bit. And they felt TOTALLY out of character for Jordan. I mean, I'd buy Charlotte's grandfather writing them to his grandmother. Or even Rebecca writing them with whoever she's dating these days. But Charlotte and Jordan? Not so much. Also, as someone who's allergic to cats, I get SO annoyed at these characters in these cozy mysteries that involve businesses. You don't bring your animal to work! Yuck in regards to restaurants, but even the ones I read that are book stores where there's a cat hanging around? Um, no. I'd be sneezing my head off in 5 minutes and certainly would never go back.

Sorry, I kind of went off on a rant there. In regards to THIS book, the mystery just seemed weird and disjointed. All Charlotte and Rebecca's crazy theories drove me batty. I don't blame Urso in the least for ignoring all her calls. I mean, who wants to hear 99 million crackpot theories from the lady who owns a cheese shop and has deluded herself into believing she's your partner. Seriously.

I finished it. Of all the cozies I've ever read I think this was the first that was totally unbelievable. I know things would never really happen the way they do in cozies, but they could. I don't believe anything in this book would ever really happen ever. And so many paragraphs of questions. Full long paragraphs of Charlotte just asking herself questions. Ugh. And I can't help but think that Charlotte is snotty. I keep telling myself that she probably isn't meant to be but I start reading again and she is snotty. It was a chore to finish this book.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Providence, Ohio is the place for lovers in this 6th installment of the spectacular series.

But murder plays havoc with a certain couples plans and they are not taking it laying down. Charlotte is very determined to catch the killer and get her plans back on track!

Avery Aames continues to make this series better and better. We have Charlotte’s crazy bachelorette party, all the shops are doing something special for Lover’s Trail Festival, the Providence Players are performing Love Letters, and there are several weddings planned. Nothing in the planned events included a murder! But before Charlotte’s party ends a phone message changes everyone’s plans.

All our favorite characters are back and they are all busy as can be. Charlotte’s assistant, Rebecca, is even trying out for the play as is Deputy Devon O’Shea. The mayor, Charlotte’s grandmother, is directing the play and heading up all the festival plans. Fromagerie Bessette is hosting a special wine and cheese tasting. There is also a crazy woman filing complaints about noise pollution and running around town threatening people. Through it all Charlotte and Jordan just wanted a happy wedding day and then they went and found that dead body.

Readers like me have been looking forward to this wedding too so I really wanted this culprit caught so the happy couple could start their years of wedded bliss together without a murder investigation to hold them back. I was amazed at the number of suspects and as each one was crossed off the list I was wondering what we were missing right along with Charlotte. The pages of this book were flying.

The author has a gift. She blends her vivid descriptions of the most yummy cheeses, seriously you can almost taste them, with a mystery that is so vivid it almost jumps off the page. The chapters are like potato chips, you can’t read/eat just one. I gobbled up As Gouda as Dead and now I am ready for some more please!

I really REALLY wanted to like this book. I won it in a contest directly from the author. She was so nice – she sent it out right away, and included some nice swag in the package. It was such an attractive offering, that I started the book immediately.

And it was awful.

The main character, or the sleuth as we call ‘em, is Charlotte, and man oh man is she annoying. She spends most of her time ditching her fiancé and making mountains out of mole hills. There is no real sleuthing – just a bunch of gossip and supposition from Charlotte.

The mystery itself started out as interesting, but with all the supposition and gossip and speculation and no real “sleuthing,” the story itself just became uninteresting. At the end, I didn’t care who did it or why – I just wanted to stop reading about all the different ways Charlotte could find to ignore her fiancé. Heck, she couldn’t even be bothered to call him, and he would leave her notes and gifts and seek her out. Yet, as a reader, we’re supposed to buy that she’s totally in love with this guy and is broken up that they couldn’t get married when originally planned. Huh? How was I supposed to believe that, when the character didn’t even seem to believe it herself.

I am done with this series – I had big hopes for it – especially since we have a little cheese shop in Reno that reminds me of the shop in the book. However my hopes have been dashed with uninteresting stories, a whiny self-centered sleuth, and a town full of irritating people. Gouda-bye!

It is February in Providence, Ohio and the whole city is celebrating Valentine's Day with week long festivities. Charlotte Bessette is celebrating by finally marrying Jordan, the man of her dreams. A body is found is found on Jordan's farm ... a close friend and another murder follows in town. Charlotte is mad -- her marriage has been postponed and she is determined to find the culprit.

I really wanted to love AS GOUDA AS DEAD. I've enjoyed the first five in the series, but this one was just ok. I began to think that everyone who lived in town was a suspect in the two murders! Just too many folks and then, I didn't like the ending ... sort of slam, bam, thank you. I do still love cheese. ...

One star for the cheese descriptions. As a person with tattoos, who also happens to be intelligent and kind, I was very turned off by Charlotte's bigoted attitude, and the author's tired stereotype of people with tattoos. Prior to this book, I LOVED this series, and would devour books as they came out. I was so turned off early on, and soldiered through for a little while, but I disliked the book so much that I couldn't even get through half of it. I skipped to the end, and that was that. Maybe Charlotte (and the author) redeemed themselves over their negative attitudes about people with tattoos, but I have better things to do with my time than read a small minded book. Like get another tattoo.

It is Valentine's time and in Providence everyone seems to be getting in the romantic mood, Charlotte and Jordan are planning on getting married out on his farm but during the pre wedding parties a body is discovered throwing everything out.

Can the crime be solved and the marriage go ahead? Is Rebecca still seeing one of the deputies and WHO is Chief Urso going out with? Murder, cheese and wine ..... perfect!

Love is in the air, everywhere I look around.....

A good entry in the Cheese Shop series, which I actually thought was better than the previous book in the series. The murder methods in this series were rather unique and not ones I've read in cozy mysteries (or at least in the cozies I've read).

The victims this time around were long-term secondary characters in the series (one in particular I really liked), and this does hit the reader in the feels.

Off to #7 in the series and then I will have it caught up!

A great read for Valentine's Day! I really enjoyed this entry in the series. The mystery kept me guessing right up to the reveal. Charlotte and Jordan were so cute in this story. Recipes are included at the end, this always makes me happy.

When As Gouda As Dead begins, the town of Providence, Ohio is getting ready to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Oh boy are they doing it up in a big way. The whole main street is getting involved, including Fromagerie Bessette. This is the 6th installment of the Avery Aames’ Cheese Shop Mystery series and the first one I have read. I can honestly say it will not be the last one though. The main character, Charlotte Bessette, is finally ready for her wedding. However, murders have a way of putting a damper on things. So when a well loved bar owner is found dead, some of the fun has to be put on hold, including the wedding.

Charlotte Bessette is not happy about her wedding being put on hold, but she knows it is the right thing to do. She is even more unhappy about the murder and the mysteries that have popped up. She has to get to the bottom of all this so life can return to normal. The characters in As Gouda As Dead are well developed and wonderful. The writing is superb and descriptive. Avery Aames is a fabulous author that draws readers in and never lets go. And I for one do not want to let go.

I have not read any of the other books in this series and do not think it hampers enjoying this one. I also know this is not the last I will be reading. I love the series this author writes under the name of Daryl Wood Gerber and am excited to find this one. This is a truly super read, with amazing characters, a wonderful town and stellar writing. I recommend it to all cozy readers and anyone wanting to read a fabulous and intriguing mystery. In my family we say there is no such thing as desserts that are too rich or have too much sugar and no savory food can ever have enough cheese. Well, now I can also say I can never have enough of Avery Aames’ Cheese Shop Mysteries!!

Unreadably bad. Every single sentence is exposition. There are some writers who prefer to tell, not show, but this high-dived into spoonfeeding. Every. Single. Sentence. Felt like a spoonful of incredibly obvious information being forcibly shoved down my throat.

The writing style was so atrocious that it made it impossible to concentrate on the story. The characters were flat, and although they were affected by the tragedy of death, it was a generic kind of reaction e.g. the macabre nature of the murders were never addressed. The "villains" were just as cardboardy as the heroes, so it was difficult to relate to anything at all in this book. The whodunnit fizzled out, not because it was trite or expected, but by the time I got to the end, I was too fatigued by the slogging build-up to give a shit. I was too tired to feel relieved that I didn't have to keep turning the page anymore.

PLUS POINTS:
-The cosiness of this book. Despite its unreadable quality, the setting was lovely.
-The USP, i.e. small-town cheese enthusiast solves mysteries. I love specialised, refreshingly unique sleuths with new settings.
-The cover art. Absolutely perfect.

Like a very pretty girl with hairspray between her ears.

Avery Aames has done it again. What a wonderful visit to Providence, Ohio's celebration of Valentine's Day. It was wonderful visiting with old friends, Charlotte, Jordon, Delilah, Meredith, Rebecca and especially Grandmere andPepere. Because it is a cozy mystery you know someone will be murder, it is sad when it is a close friend. So Charlotte with the encouragement, kind of, she starts looking into it. There are enough twists and turns to keep your interest. What I really like about reading cozy mysteries that take place in specialty shops are the interesting facts you learn about items like cheese in the series. I really didn't know that a type of cheese could come in so many different flavors and let's not forget the recipes for items baked or cooked in the book. The book can be read as a standalone, but Avery leaves enough tantalizing tidbits for you to want to read the previous books in the series. I can't wait for the next book.

I received this book from the author for a fair and honest review.

Love is in the air and Charlotte and Jordan are about to be married. On the night of their bachelor and bachelorette parties, one of Jordan’s friends is killed. This put their wedding on hold as the murder took place on Jordan’s farm, where the wedding was to take place. In the course of trying to find out who the killer is, another person is killed and suspicion is cast on many of the citizens of the town. Who killed them? Why were they killed? If you want to find out you’ll have to read the book. I love this series. It is always well written and can draw you into the plot even before you are aware. There are twists and turns so you have to get to the end of the book to find out who the murder really is. There’s even a surprise at the end that will bring tears to you eyes. As an added bonus to the books, there are yummy recipes in the back of the book. I can’t wait for the next one to come out.

Charlotte is not a happy camper. First, she has to invite former cousin-in-law Sylvie to her wedding. Then her bachelorette party is interrupted
by a weird phone call. Jordan's bachelor party is stopped when a body is found in his cheese making farm, and now they may have to postpone their
wedding--again! Plus, the victim is the beloved pub owner and her friend's boyfriend. Will the killer be found in time to avoid ruining the wedding
and the town's Valentine's celebration?

I love reading this series and looking for some of the food. One of her books mentioned my most favorite cheese, Spanish Mahon. In this one,
the double cream Gouda sounds great and I'm going to have to look for it. And, it has recipes in the back!

I knew the killer from the start, but I enjoyed how Charlotte worked through the clues to find them. I hope this series continues!

The sixth in The Cheese Shop Mystery series is “udderly” fantastic. I literally just put down As Gouda as Dead and I have tears streaming down my face. Happy tears. She weaves such an incredible love story throughout this cozy and you really become invested in the lives of the inhabitants of Providence, Ohio.
Charlotte Bessette, the proprietor of Fromagerie Bessette, know locally as The Cheese Shop, is planning her wedding to Jordan Pace, when Providence is once again rocked to its core with murder. Instead of donning her wedding dress, Charlotte straps on her investigator’s hat and sets out to help the sheriff solve the crime.
One word of caution – Do not read this book while hungry or thirsty because the descriptions of cheese and wine will get your stomach growling and your salivary glands running. Enjoy!!!!

I enjoyed this book. The book starts with celebrations that come to abrupt ends as a body is found. When combined with another the twists and turns that we are taken on is one fun ride. Every time I thought I had it figured a new twist arrived. My only drawback was all questions Charlotte asked herself every time she talked to someone or saw something. I found it annoying after awhile but this was only minor for me. The mystery came to a satisfactory conclusion that made sense as Charlotte put it together. If you haven't read the rest of the series yet I don't think that you would have any trouble reading it as a stand alone.
There is also the added bonus of some yummy sounding recipes in the back.
I was lucky enough to have won a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

As always, this cheese shop mystery was a blend of mystery, friendship and education! It was fun spending time with old friends. Yes, I know they are characters in a book, but enjoy getting to know them better. Going through the ups and downs of losing people they were close to, figuring out the twists, finding out the history of the relationships all braided together to keep me reading. The sprinkling of information about the cheeses and the wines were an added bonus. So, make a cheese plate, grab a glass of wine, and settle in a comfy chair as you enjoy As Gouda as Dead.

What a delicious story. This is a fair and honest review I'm making in exchange for receiving a copy of this book. It involves a small town in Ohio. Main Street businesses preparing for a Valentine Day ritual. And murder. The book is rich in enjoyment, and I easily give it a thumbs up.
