Anthology

Lone Wolf: Maria finds love with Ellison, a wannabe cowboy, who has embraced living in Texas. He slowly shows Maria that he means what he says.

Feral Heat: Deni and Jace. She's been damaged by an attempted kidnapping. An encounter shows they have feelings for each other which grow and grow.

Really good anthology - both stories are 4 stars. Definitely worth a read.

Ellison and his sister Deni and Deni's cubs are a pack of 4. The rest of the family was lost before the move to Austin ShifterTown. Maria was rescued from the Mexican feral pack and brought to Austin. She is a human, and wants to be strong. She and Ellison are meant to be mates, and after some exciting chases and fights, they form the mate bond. That is Lone Wolf. Meanwhile, Jace Warden visits Austin from Vegas and meets Deni, who had been having problems of her own. What happens when wild cat meets wolf. That is Feral heat. These 2 exciting novellas combined in one book. The stories continue!!

As a big fan of Jennifer Ashley's work, I was happy to finally get a chance to read these two novellas. Lone Wolf (Shifters Unbound #4.6) and Feral Heat (Shifters Unbound #5.5) take place between books of the series I've already read and it was nice to finally get the full story on two of the HEA that previously took place "off-screen" for me. Tiger's book, Tiger Magic, remains my favorite of the series and I was happy to see him make an appearance in each story.

The only thing that would have made me happier is if all of the novellas had been collected together. I've thoroughly enjoyed various series written by Jennifer Ashley/Allyson James and this just made my mind up for me to go ahead and hunt up the e-books of all the other stories that aren't available in print edition. I'm also planning to try out her Ashley Gardner mysteries at some point in the future.

I love this series. Hot men who can double as the watch dog (so-to-speak), absolutely devoted to their mates and would do anything for them including die if necessary. Did I mention they're hot? WOW! That's enough to make me want to read it but, that's not all you get. You also get, adventure, love, destiny, danger, multiple species to explore and let's not forget about all the hot stuff in between. As I said, I love this series and can't wait for the next book. If you like paranormal romance with a bit of danger then this is for you.

Lone Wolf
I've been waiting for Ellison to get his HEA since book 1. I think Maria is the perfect mate for him. They compliment each other and fill the holes in one another's lives and hearts. Ellison is exactly what Maria needs to heal from her captivity and Maria is the mate Ellison needs to help carry the many burdens he has. I love them together and as individuals. The story is amazing. Well done, Jennifer.

Feral Heat
I think I might be reading these too fast this time around but, I just can't get enough of those crazy, hot, sexy shifters. Jace is an incredible character and the way he treats Deni is inspiring. Deni has been through so much and I think her and Jace are the perfect compliment to one another. Jennifer has created a monster piece with the Shifters Unbound series and this installment to the series does not disappoint.

If you haven't started reading this series yet, all I can say is, you're seriously missing out.

Lone Wolf 4 Stars!
Loved getting to see Ellison getting his mate. Really liked the way he was so protective of Maria and the way he dealt with Broderick. On the one hand, knowing what she'd gone through and everything, I kind of wished Maria had taken a slightly different approach to things. Yes, going to school and wanting to help was good but it almost seemed like she was using that goal to run. Glad that she ended up realizing what she really wanted and accepted Ellison. I also really liked how she improvised with Bradley when things started to go sideways.

Feral Heat 4 Stars!
Jace's story! His character has been interesting since the Las Vegas Shiftertown was first introduced. I will admit that the whole piece about him basically going wildcat was weird because that aspect of his character seemed to almost come out of nowhere. Not so much the feral needs that were surfacing since that's been noted to be a problem since the beginning, but his need to stay jaguar after the crash felt like it came out of nowhere. I loved the way he was with Deni and the way he acknowledged the problem but didn't let her hide. Deni was intriguing. Obviously, she had the issues/episodes but in Lone Wolf, it really seemed like she was mostly going through the motions rather than much of anything else. Then she started letting Jace help her and I loved that she let her instincts take over when searching.

Read Lone Wolf & Feral Heat in Book " Shifter Mates" which was available in a library paperback book.

Loving this new series I'm reading. Everything just flows together in this paranormal series. Were cats, bears, mountain lions oh my and then add some humans to the mix & some Faes and you have a whole bunch of fun and at the edge of your seat reading.

This series has been just great to read. Enjoying each book and having the need to continue the saga. I'm so glad I saw this somewhere in Goodreads to start reading :-)

I really enjoyed both of the stories in this book. It was fun to read both couples getting together. Both stories also had enough intrigue to keep them interesting and move the overall series arc forward.

Lets be clear, this series does not qualify as classical literature but they are definitely fun and enjoyable to read. I think I will be sad when I have read them all.

3.4 Stars - Two good 'Shiftertown' audiobook novellas

Book #4.6 and #5.5

Two novellas about the siblings Rowe. Wolf shifters in Austin Shiftertown See my reviews for the audiobooks —as always flawless— narrated by Cris Dukehart here:

#4.6 - Lone Wolf (3.5 stars) ~ Ellison Rowe & Maria
#5.5 - Feral Heat (3.3 stars) ~ Jace Warden & Deni Rowe

***********************************************************

The Shifters Unbound series:

These "SU" books are stand-alone series parts. There are always new couples and new lovestories but as always when reading a series about a bigger bunch of new and old characters is it most fun (and maybe best) to follow them (in two different shifter town's) from book to book in order.
"Twenty years ago, shape shifters of all kinds banded together and announced themselves to the world, only to be shunted to areas no human wanted ("Shiftertowns"). — They are forced to wear Collars that control their hunting and fighting instincts (referred to by Shifters as "Taking the Collar")."

My reviews and raiting:

I LIKE - ...always to visit this "world"

Not bad, though putting two novellas in one volume and only noting after the reader has already read them both that the second one actually comes after a book the reader hasn't gotten to yet is kinda irritating. Most people don't deliberately read things out of order.

So let's see...we find out where the human who was rescued from the ferals and whose family rejected her has ended up, and it's with Ellison who amuses me with his reinventing himself as a Texan. And...we only get slightly confused about the lupines who are apparently two packs but this is the first mention of Ellison not actually belonging to the pack Glory now leads...which, btw, I'm bemused about how she achieved leadership, since I was under the impression initially that she was pretty far down in ranking. Huh. Anyway...someone is shifter trafficking and, after almost snatching a cub the h was watching, snatches the Alpha's nephew. Bad idea. V. bad idea. Of course there's a HEA.

The second novella featured Ellison's somewhat messed up sister (hit by the trafficker sometime before HIS book, but I don't recall it being mentioned), and Jace. Jace is the volunteer guinea pig on collar removal and has the misfortune of visiting at the same time some chick starts stirring up trouble with the cops vs. shifters. Since they're messing with his collar, plus his being drawn into a mating frenzy with the h, he's having...issues. You know, I'm puzzled about things. He apparently was able to come back from being nearly feral after losing his collar. Maybe it was the Fae gold...but then, he seemed to be largely gone there for a bit, unlike Liam who was aware and fighting it.

Series niggles:

Well now, the indication is a combination of adrenaline and intent. Eh? If that's the case, then how is it that the backlash only hits after the person has relaxed? And the collar never goes off. Why would there be any backlash if the collar never went off in the first place? That makes no sense.

Heh; wondered how they could enforce the whole "no tech" rule. Wallyworld isn't going to check to see if a buyer of a flat panel is a shifter; they just want their $$$. And DVD/Blu-ray players can be had for $30 (which brings to mind, why dvd and not blu-ray? You can't get *just* a dvd player now.) Still finding the notion of no smart phones-no texting to be hilarious. For that matter, most of those pay-as-you-go services have some form of smart phone.

The two novellas included in this anthology are more great editions to the Shifters Unbound series! In the first novella, the male lead is Ellison Rowe who is introduced in the very first book of the series. This novella is meant to be read after the fourth book in the series and it seems like you've had to wait a long time to read about Ellison finally finding his mate. I loved Ellison as a character so much but thought he could have done much better in choosing a mate. Ellison's mate is a human woman you meet in a previous book and her name is Maria. Maria is originally from Mexico and she very much has the hot-headed, fiery, Latina temperament. I really hate those kinds of characters because you can't ever like them due to them being so nasty to everyone. Maria is constantly yelling at Ellison and anyone else who dares to tell her about a different idea than the one she came up with. I just wished I could find a way to get her character to shut up because I didn't want to read anything more about her! So although I really liked Ellison because of Maria it was hard to get through at times. The second novella is about Ellison's sister, Deni and it is meant to be read after the sixth book in the series. I loved everything about this story! Deni is an awesome heroine who's strong, tough, and yet not bitchy which is an extremely rare combination. I also loved the guy she ends up with because he's easygoing and loves with all his heart (and who can resist a man like that?). Their story is fast-paced, sexy, and gives a great intro into the next book without giving too much away. I could easily reread that story I loved it that much! The only note that I have is that it is pretty important to read the series in order or you'll get a little confused as to what or why things are happening but it's not absolutely essential if you did happen to read them out of order. This is an awesome series though and I'm super excited to continue reading!

Lone Wolf - 4 stars
Ellison, a wolf shifter of the Austin Shiftertown, mates with Maria, who was saved in Mexico when she'd been forced to mate with a feral shifter. She's leery of shifters and rightfully so, but Ellison makes her reconsider. He loves her even before the mate bond starts to surface. She tries to reject him to save Ellison, but ever stubborn like most males, he refuses to give him, enjoying the chase. Maria just finds out that she likes to be caught when she trusts the shifter that is her mate.

Feral Heat - 4 stars
Deni Rowe, mother of two from her former mate and sister of Ellison, occasionally goes feral and there's nothing she can do about it ever since the motorcycle accident. She comes to Jace's aid in the shifter club fight before going outside and having some raw, hot sex. Instantly, they know it's not a normal coupling as the mate bond immediately blooms. Jace is visiting from another shiftertown to try to work out how to get the collar off while they're trying to figure out their relationship and keep each other from going feral. Her bracelet that she gives Jace as insurance that he'll come back, actually aids in the removal of the collar when he's in the plane accident. As his mate, she keeps him from going completely feral once the collar was off. Now he seems fine.

I just love happy endings and I couldn't see a better way than to have the stories of a brother and sister in the same book. Loved them.

Two great books!

Feral Heat
Jace has been hovering in the background of the series for a while and is finally getting his book. I loved how he instinctively knew just what Dani needed and when she needed it. He doesn't allow her to hide behind her fear but gently pushes her with his belief that she "can". He bolsters her where she is weak and cheers her on in each small triumph. Dani is amazing. She's lost so much in her life and yet she still reaches for happiness. She still tries.

Lone Wolf
I've loved Ellison from the first book in the series and was so glad to see him finally get the girl. He's had to step aside as one friend after another finds their mate while he looks on. We finally get to see the details of his life and family and why this Colorado transplant has taken on being full Texan. Maria impresses me with her determination to make a better life for her self. She's been abducted, abused, had her heart broken and been rejected by her family and yet she stands strong.
Highly recommended author and series

Lone Wolf

Everyone loves Ellison. I mean seriously, who doesn’t love him? And we all felt badly for him when one by one all those women were mate-claimed by others first. And now it’s his turn! I waited for his story and I was a bit disappointed by the fact it’s a short novel for one, and secondly, I wasn’t that big of a fan of Maria. I don’t know why, I couldn’t tell you reasons. It’s just she didn’t click with me well. So while the story was excellent as always, I just didn’t get into it the same way as I usually do. So 3.5 stars.

Feral Heat

It was the perfect length, despite being a short novel. They’re both characters outside the main setting a bit, but they are both well-liked (at least by me). To be honest, I wasn’t sure of this pairing at first, but really, it worked wondrously! I have to give Jennifer Ashley kudos on that. I give it 4 stars!

For me this series is like coming home again, love the Texas setting as we are only 50 miles east of Austin and know a lot of the locations mentioned. The characters are so much fun while at the same time have a serious side to them when their plight as being classed lower than humans with all the attendant restrictions and rules that accompany being shifter.

Having Ellison and Jace finally find their mates was enjoyable, the way in which the two were put through a few trials before having the HEA we all wanted for them was as usual full of conflicts and emotional ups and downs.

Really happy to have finally gotten to read these two novellas and looking forward to more of the shifter series to come.

I haven't been able to reading all the series in order but I do know who is who and reading Tigers' story before this 2 in 1 I couldn't wait to read the Rowe siblings stories. I will keep it short, its nice to see 3 broken souls heal with their mates and work things out.

Was happy that there was a book I hadn't added to my library yet, it isn't my fav shifter book-- Ellison a little laid back and Deni off charts crazy, Tiger in this book & shows even with his brief showing why he is the most compelling.
