When children go missing, and the Humans have no leads, I'm the one they call. I am their last hope in bringing home the lost ones. I salvage what they cannot.
When the dust settles, my heart feels as though it will never be pieced back together. But there are too many lives riding on my ability to function at my best.
So I push through. And I find that I still have some fight left in me.
Now I have one last task before I can rest: to find the simple ingredients of a spell. A spell that will help heal much of my wounds.
But it is not only my injuries that I have to stitch closed. My sister's wounds have broken open . . . and perhaps most surprising of all so do another vampire's.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I was born into a family of Star Wars nuts. I have a lot of siblings (somewhere I lost count but I think there was more than could be numbered on one hand) and being one of the young padawans I was subjected to Star Wars marathons, on a regular basis. If you've read any of my books you'll see there is often a reference to said movies as a small homage to my upbringing. May the force be with you and all that jazz.
I started writing when I realized I didn't want to grow up not believing in magic, or not believing in creatures everyone else said didn't exist. That being said, I have never seen a fairy, unicorn or dragon. I had a neighbour who swore they fed the leprechauns in their garden, but I never caught the little buggers no matter how long I lay in wait. (And consequently had to help the neighbours plant new flowers to replace those I killed waiting for the leprechauns to show their faces.)
Along the way, I found my husband who is the rock that keeps me from floating away into my dreams, and we have a little boy who is the centre of our world. Living on a farm keeps us busy (as if the writing wasn't enough) and I have more than my share of stories about wrestling with cows, helping birth calves and ending up in the creek during the process, falling in the mud (we'll call it mud but we all know that on a farm, mud is rarely mud) and chasing escaped livestock in the hopes the four legged convicts don't make it to the highway.
I've taken up archery, and the goal is to move into horseback archery in time (you know, when I can hit the target on a consistent basis) and when no one is looking, I love to bake (this doesn't happen often as it's hard to keep the sweet treats in stock with two boys in the house.)
As to what's coming next for me? More stories (since those never stop inside my head, I might as well share them with all of you!) and more adventures. Pretty much, when the fancy strikes, I'll jump on it. Leap before you look I'm sure that motto was created for me.
Or was that . . . think big and dream bigger, ready, set, pull the trigger . . . yeah. That one is a good one too. But only if you have a gun. And are hunting elephants. Which is not cool because of so many reasons. Let's stick with the first one with an addendum.
Leap before you look and let your dreams carry you on their wings. And that, my friends, is me in a nutshell.
Well it's almost here and after reading this novel I am scared, excited, broken and hopeful.. I love how my emotions are heightened just through reading words, words that take me to a place that I can easily lose myself in....
As a general rule, I skip novellas. However, as I was flipping through the opening pages of Book 9, I came across an author's note that stated that it would be a VERY good idea to read STITCHED before getting started. So, may it be noted that although I don't listen to my husband, I will blindly follow Shannon Mayer. I wasn't thrilled with the price tag mind you because at only 100 pages it's selling for the same dollar amount as the first three installments. I enjoyed learning about how Faris became a vampire, and the motivations behind Rylee's side quest to gather spell ingredients were genuine. I also definitely understand why it's a crucial part of the series. On to RISING DARKNESS!
All right the author had me crying throughout this novella. I had to keep stopping to dry my eyes. We see Rylee accept everything and look to the future. Finally we get an Elemental and finding the one we meet in Elemental Priceless novella which introduces us to that series.
Holy Hot Tamale! How did Mayer's pack so much in this novella? Talent, Talent, Talent is the obvious answer.
Whisked away for the birth and the safety of the babies, this short is Rylee's time in and out of the hidden sanctuary.
Some new characters, some old reliable and some totally tear jerking moments surrounded by the intense action we've come to expect from Mayer.
Its rare a novella enacts an emotional response, but Stitched utterly trapped me in its emotional web. Brilliant Novella, if you are a Rylee Adamson fan don't miss it.
There is a Graphic Audio production of the whole Rylee Adamson Series, which includes 10 books of the series and five short stories. All this was included in my audible subscription. That's how I decided to listen to all the books and short stories. Otherwise it would have been pretty costly to listen to this production.
The first two short stories and book 1 and two were 3.5 and 4 stars. The rest of the series was a solid three stars rating.
At some point the story felt to drawn out but since I had passed the point of no return, where I just wanted to know who the stories ends I finished 15 Graphicaudio books. I think the story could have been shortened without loosing anything. From the beginning two things were predictable: One (and even more) person was Demon possessed and this person will die. And also there will be an Elemental involved, whom we meet again in book 9.
I liked Rylee and Mayer killed off some of the good guys. Two deaths were not really necessary and didn't feel right.
I would say this is a drawn out series, but okay, to listen for free in the graphic audio version. Stay away from the series if you tend to dnf series and hate it if the author kills beloved important side charcters.
I loved this. Loved the scenes with Rylee and Zane, with Erik and also Blaz. I also loved being introduced to Peta. I might be reading this in the wrong order, but I have seen Peta in book two of Mayer’s other series, The Elemental Series. So that was a nice connection. From the news of Rylee’s pregnancy back a few books ago, I have been terrified about what was going to happen. So I love that the reader has been given some hope that things might not go bad. I hope that remains the case. A must read for fans of this series!
I knew from the first page I was going to love this series and it has become one of my favourites. I read it years ago and now I am leaving a review. Rylee has the best and the worst job, to find those who are lost, the ones no one can find but it is not all sunshine and roses. Sometimes it will break your heart. It is an intriguing, suspenseful, and mysterious thriller filled with tension. The story includes alliances, threats, betrayal, riddles, and plots, all infused with a touch of humour to keep the pages turning.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to stop and read this novella and I'm so glad I did. There was so much going on in this short book that you won't want to miss before starting book 9.
This book basically takes you through Rylee pregnancy and takes you around where she is staying safe. You meet some new characters and go on a small mission.
This is worth reading and is a great addition to the main storyline. I don't want to say to much more or I will be giving key points away from the book. If you are reading the main series you need to read this book. If you came across this review without reading the series you should go back and read the series.
Ok so I started rising darkness and I had to double back to this book because it didn’t make any sense.
There’s actually heaps that happen in this novella and to continue the series this novella is needed for things to be explained.
We meet rylees daughter Cactus is this one! I didn’t actually realise that the elemental series was set in the same universe as well as nix series (from previous book of hers)
Will be interesting to see if we meet mars in larks books but Cactus does sound older than I think he is in recurve which I’ve just listened to.
I love a good crossover 4 star read - currently on kindle unlimited
I noticed in the blurb of this book and in other reviews that this novels should be read after book 8 and before book 9. I definitely agree and understand why.
So glad I read this novella about Rylees ' pregnancy before getting further into book 9. She always has a timeline and I was pleased to see how she dealt with a shortened pregnancy since the veil was only closed for 6 months. Back to reunite her family before taking on Orion.
I am excited I finally was able to catch up and read Stitched! I was frothing at the mouth and it did not disappoint at all! I love Rylee and this struggle she has that goes back and forth is heart wrenching and exhilarating at the same time. Shannon has, once again, nailed this one to the awesome tree! I can’t wait for the next installment!
***small spoiler alert***
Rylee is in a state of shock, heartache and anger. Liam lost his life to save her and their child. Lost in her own world of grief she clung to the one thing she had. Her baby, baby Zane, Uncle Erik and Coyote were along with her as was Blaz. They were taking her someplace safe. Somewhere to have her child and gear up for her impending battle with Orion. Making a pit stop they pick up someone that promised to help. When Rylee realized where they were, little Catya was running from the place of their security and climbing up onto Blaz. The pain in her parent’s voices and eyes hit Rylee hard, she knew how the parents’ felt. She would be leaving her own child in a few months time. Catya had promised to help Rylee. She promised Liam.
When they arrived at the sanctuary Rylee, always a fighter is a lot unnerved. Uneasy is to put it lightly. But really with her luck can you blame her? No. She is greeted by A monk and given a quick meet with a half human, half troll in order to keep the ever hungry Zane full. Kids don’t care who’s tit it is if they are hungry. As Rylee lets the thoughts and fears roll around in her she finally lets some of it out. That’s when she is greeted by a cat. Rylee, missing Alex needs that connection so she scoops the cat up. After a much needed nap Rylee does more thinking. And goes back to the dinner hall. After some talk a with the toll woman Rylee has a plan that if it works will give her much needed time with her baby. Time she may not get again once she goes off to fight Orion.
When Blaz takes Rylee and Erik to the woods beyond the sanctuary to meet the woman the monk told her about they come across a snow leopard. Not just any snow leopard, not really a snow leopard. Its the house cat from the sanctuary. Her name is Peta. Blaz tells Rylee that she is a familiar to an elemental. Her elemental has been taken from her for almost 30 years. She helps Rylee to find the cottage and the ladies she seeks out. Once Rylee knows what is needed of her she takes off with Blaz and Peta, who is a list second rider. She is determined to help Rylee. So now the race is on to get what is needed to assist Rylee in partaking in this new journey. A bittersweet one at that. But one that she has take.
The mission Rylee has set out upon is dangerous and a tad overwhelming. But in order to fulfill her destiny it was a necessary step. She gets more than what she set out to find. Her heart is full of love and she knows now, really understands what it is she has to do. When she gets her mission done she comes back to the monastery where she stays, works the spell she needs and has her child. After weeks spent recuperating, getting to know her baby and getting her mind into the right place its time to go. She has an elemental to find. The one that is destined to help her defeat the demon armies awaiting them. But first, before they do that its time to go home. Home being where her family awaits her return. Blaz, Riley, Peta and Faris, yes our neighborhood bloodsucker is there to accompany them back to England. To Jacks old home where they left them.
One they check in there they will have a week to find the Elemental and get ready to face Orion. May the best woman win.
I enjoyed this series, especially seeing how it intertwined with the Elemental Series. However, I'm not so sure my teenagers would enjoy it. There is a fair amount of language and gore that even I skipped through. In addition to that there are some sex scenes to skip over, and a few crude/lewd moments that I could have done without. I understood the language was a way of distinction with the Trackers in that world, and if it hadn't been for how well done the story was I don't think I would have finished the series. I did appreciate the moral to the series, that love for family and friends really can help us conquer the darkness in our lives. I also liked how the chain of events that was her life was realized at the end in a way that led her to where she was, and how necessary those events were to building who Riley was and developing why she was loved so much by her"family ".
Stitched is book 8.5 in the Rylee Adamson series and cannot be read as a stand alone. You need to go back to the beginning and start with book one Priceless which is currently free on Amazon.
Stitched picks up where Wounded left off, and Rylee is in a state of utter grief and devastation. It brought tears to my eyes to feel her pain. Her losses have been so devastating and she is expected to keep giving more of herself.
Stitched takes us on an a quest and like always Rylee is flying by the seat of her pants. Despite how mentally exhausted she is, Rylee shows an inner strength of the true warrior and Tracker she is.
I can not wait for Rising Darkness Book 9!....Sara
I never read novella. I find them pointless and boring this one however is neither pointless or boring.
I really enjoyed this novella. Its a little snippet into her life when she isn't being hunted by demons and I liked the fact we saw characters from our Elemental series.
I'm still trying to decipher if I've read the books in the correct order. Its not very easy to follow. Elemental is almost a prequel to the series but also a story in parallel. I wish it was easier to figure out which books in the series should be read at the same time. Us finding Cactus in this book makes me wonder if I should finish the Elemental series before Rylee? My next read will be Rylee #9 but then I will jump to Elemental #5 and miss out Elemental #6 as its just a POV from Ash and who gives a stuff?!
in a way many of the others haven’t quite. I’m not sure if that’s because it’s Rylee’s life, with all the rushing around, desperately fighting off Evil and suffering horribly in the meantime, or what, but to me, none of the other books felt quite closed/finished/complete. This one does. Maybe it’s actually that Rylee is finally in a place where she feels hope and determination; knowing how hard it will be, but also why she’s fighting and who that fighting is for. She’s gotten to a place of resolve without giving up any of the qualities that make up her self and that’s huge.
I had read this series as it was first published, but stopped before book 8, Wounded, because I was worn out. So much pain, the never-ending evil and all those devastating losses. I couldn’t stand the suffering anymore. With all the devastation in books 1-7, with Riley not knowing she was going to lose Liam, what looked like Berget’s inevitable death at Rylee’s hands and everything else that was piled on Rylee’s back, I just couldn’t take it and didn’t buy book 8.
I came back to Rylee’s world because I wanted to read the books Shannon Mayer had written since and many of them are rooted in this series. I was reminded of how good she is by reading the Shadowspell Academy books she’s written with K. F. Breene (they’re amazing, read them!) and I didn’t want to miss out any longer.
I’m glad I came back, especially because of this book—it offers me a place to rest and regroup from the other books’ trying to drown me in everyone’s pain as I struggle to stay whole. I go too deep sometimes when I read, and some writers write their characters’ agony too well—Robin Hobb’s Liveship Trader series is another one that knocked me off my feet until I just had to put it down. Even the hopeful strands couldn’t heal all the wounds the rest of it dealt me.
At any rate, this book has offered me enough solace that I now can finish the series. It’s good to feel Rylee’s renewed sense of purpose, her acceptance and new maturity, and I really hope she holds onto them through the remaining books—or can find them again with the help of her loved ones and friends.
Well Worth Reading!!📚🌟 (Read using Kindle Unlimited)
This novella starts as soon as they arrive back from the castle!!😭😭 The grief is overwhelming and Rylee's anger is choking her 😕 She's been told in a letter to only take Blaz, Cayote, Zane & Erik that no one else can know where or especially why she's leaving!! Poor Alex is heartbroken to be separated from Rylee 😢 Pamela is convinced Rylee will hate her when she discovers her part in Liam's passing - this fear & self loathing has the potential for bad things 😳😕
After an excursion to get ingredients for a spell, Rylee stays in the Sanctuary for the rest of their time. There are some wonderful times 🙏💕😍 She'll need to cling to them to face what's ahead 😳😱 Now they travel back to Jacks, to their allies and to war!!💥
Im reading these in the order the author suggested. One thing I have noticed with all of her short stories is she seems to forget/change important details. Like in this book, Cactus tells Riley her parents went to the sanctuary to escape and have her. But in Larks books, Rileys mom found her after her father had died. She was being chased by Orion and Lark had to deliver her baby and whisk her away. It’s not just this short either. Every single one. Almost like they’re written as an afterthought with no attention to detail. Names change. Circumstances change. Relationships change. Then when you go back to the main books everything reverts back. If not for these details I would rate the books higher.

Ruled is supposed to be this loving person. But she has no empathy no compassion for anyone else's feelings or needs. She is so cold. It is hard to see the love she is suppose to have. Her love is all so selfish. Only what she cares about and needs. Even those who she is suppose to love she doesn't care about there feelings what they need. The whole it's based on love doesn't really hold water. She is just a hard are uncaring wrapped up in her life responding to emergency in a knee jump fashion. With no thing or for thought involved. And there is a real lack of warmth in her relationship. No humor no caring how about their welfare life or future
I didn’t know what to expect from this novella. It seemed necessary to read so after Wounded I dived right in. I loved it. Faris, Blaz, Erik and so many more new characters return in this short story that takes places between Wounded and the next novel. This is the one where Rylee comes to terms with all that she dealt with and learned and must deal with it. At the same time we get a small glimpse into the history of Faris and why he is how he is. I loved it and would have loved a book about him. This is very necessary to read before continuing onto the next book as it sets things up and involves character development key to the end of the series.
Excellent interlude story. Liam had made the ultimate sacrifice and Rylee finds out she is pregnant. Orion wants her baby as well as Milly’s so she is sent to a sanctuary where she can safely give birth. She discovers a way to hasten the birth so that she will have more time with her daughter. This will additionally give her more time to get back into fighting shape. She and Blaz go on a quest to find the required ingredients for the spell.
Liam manages to share Faris’s body which causes all kinds of confusion. Faris shares the story of how he became a vampire. Rylee names her baby Marcella and has to leave her behind as she goes forth to the final battle.
As always enjoyable suspenseful funny good book. Hope someone will pick up the habit I have enjoyed reading about Rylee. It's been a good ride. I'm glad you are a wonderful writer. Suspens funny, emotional, and interesting. Love your writing.
I chose this review because it interested me and I kept up with the next book in line and haven't put them down. I love your emotion that you put in words. You also have a flare of comical tactics and love in the stories. Great reading.
This novella was really good but also some huge important things happen. I don't know why she didn't just make this the beginning of the next book. Especially since amazon doesnt even list tbe novellas in the series. I had to find out it exists from goodreads and they didn't even have a link to it. For such an important part of the story the novellas all should be either included at the beginning of the novel that comes after each one, or listed in the series when you click the series link.
I enjoyed Stitched very much. It dealt with Rylee’s grief, helped her to develop into the warrior she needs to be to fight Orion. The small adventure her and Blaz went on to get the ingredients needed for the spell was clever and fun. Getting to Know a little more of Faris was insightful. Glad Rylee performed the spell to give her a little more time with Marcella. The six months reprieve was definitely needed and written very well.
Rylee seeks a hidden secure magic hideaway till the time to face Orion. Rylee learns alot about herself being isolated in this hideaway. She trains and readies herself for the future battle. I'm on to book 9. I can't tell you enough to start this series
