So I happened upon this little gem via a random tweet on my newsfeed. Patricks invites you into his twisted world on page one and the ride immediately starts. You know the slow buildup when you read a new book...the time it takes for you to become interested? Not so in this case. The "about the author" forwards (there's two, for good measure) are HILARIOUS. Patricks' gifts are his humor, relaxed writing style, and most of all the ability to enunciate ideas that you've invariably thought about at some time but have never voiced.
BONUS: The soothing Wedgwood blue cover is worth the purchase if you don't read a single word.

I was reading this book on the train and found myself laughing out loud several times per page, to the point where other people were shooting annoyed glances at me. So if you want to annoy strangers on the train, I would suggest getting this book. Talking loudly on the phone also seems to do the trick nicely.

Very funny -- Ryan's got a pretty weird, yet hilarious, outlook on life.

Hilarious

This book is full of clever and funny one liners. Everyone enjoyed listening to me read excerpts aloud, I definitely recommend this book! It's a quick read and I hope this guy writes another book!

I LOVED THIS BOOK! If you have a sense of humor similar to my own, first of all you have my condolences. But secondly, you have got to get this book. All it took was a careful look at the cover to convince me I would enjoy reading it.

Right up front the author, Ryan Patricks, shows us his talent. His cover includes a well-deserved book award, along with a no-holds-barred quote from the New York Times, of all people. Now that I think about it, those two items are all you really need to read, to learn if this is a book you will enjoy reading. If the cover doesn't convince you, my review certainly won't.

So rush right out and take a good look at the cover. That will decide it for you. As a caveat, I have to say this book would be wasted on my wife. She would not understand half of what goes on between the covers. Okay, between the "e-covers". Get your mind out of the gutter. The other half of the book she just wouldn't think was funny.

I don't know what she ever saw in me, because there wasn't a page in the book where I could safely take a drink of milk, water or soda, without worrying about blowing said liquid out my nose. Not on purpose, you understand... that's just what happens when you take a drink of something, then read an unexpectedly funny line.

Okay, I'm rambling now. Get this book. It is funny. Ryan Patricks is a funny guy, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. I'm sure his mother is proud of his accomplishments, too.

Ryan has written a collection of standup anecdotes, stories and jokes that ring true and often laugh out loud funny. A nice first entry for a guy with a strong comedy future, I'd expect!

A rambling commentary on the author's life

This book started out with some fun anecdotes and later became more and more ramblings about the author's life. We're the ramblings true or merely created for this book? It really doesn't matter. The more I read, the more I was reminded of Getting Even and Side Effects by Woody Allen. These were books I found to be funny when they first appeared.
To say that an author rambles is a statement about the style of the book and should not be seen as a negative judgment on this book. A lot of popular authors have done very well by producing books of their own ramblings. While I would not put this writer in the same category as Andy Rooney, Art Buchwald, or Dave Berg yet, given the right editor and a good mentor, he could one day produce the same sort of ramblings that helped make those writers so popular.
I think that this author should continue writing. I am confidant that as he matures so will his writing.

Funny

Rated 3, because it was funny at times, but not something I would compare to let's say a Kathy Griffin funny book.

Really funny! A few pages were not funny and kind of dragged, but over all a fun entertaining read. I would definitely read more of this guy's writing.

Dated comedic devices masquerading as edgy humour make this book rather predictable and actually quite unoriginal and dull, unfortunately.
This isn't a book for anyone with a sophisticated sense of humour, yet somehow that's how it's pitched.

This is a collection of short anecdotes, jokes and opinions. It's very short, under 200 pages, so if you're interested to see what it's about it wouldn't take too long to finish it. Unfortunately, I don't think the humour was really for me.

I LOVE this book! I have a similar sense of humor as the author (apparently) and found myself laughing out loud often...usually in public. I admire the honest & at times, awkward look into Ryan's life. I thoroughly enjoyed this book & have recommended it to friends.
