The world is a beautiful place and God gives us all things to enjoy. He knew when he created the world that we would have times when we needed to get alone by ourselves in quiet contemplation, gather with our friends in celebration, or just enjoy a time of special fellowship with one another, so he created tea. The purpose of this book is to share verses, short anecdotes or devotions, recipes for various types of teas and other delicious goodies to go with your afternoon teas, whether you are spending a time of quiet and solitude with just your own thoughts or having an elaborate get-together with your friends. In this book you will also take a short trip through history from the discovery of tea through today when tea is rapidly becoming the number one drink of people everywhere. You will also learn about the calming and medicinal benefits of your favorite drink as you explore the various types of teas and herbs. So indulge yourself. Get out your best china, pour the tea, gather the snacks, get your Bible or favorite devotional book, and take them all to your favorite comfortable chair or gather your friends together and enjoy the fellowship of Jesus, Me, & Afternoon Tea.
Deanna Stalnaker’s book, Jesus, Me, & Afternoon Tea, is an absolute delight to read. The devotions are encouraging and varied in subject, and each lead to a discussion of teas or other beverages. There are also recipes in the book! Yum! The section at the end on the history of teas was informative and easy to read. Aside from this great content, the full-page photos and swirley things makes this book a fabulous find, and a great gift book for that special friend.
This unique devotional book offers readers verses, devotions, prayers, and short anecdotes, as well as recipes for a variety of teas and accompanying sweets. There’s a brief history of teas as well, so there’s much for tea aficionados to appreciate here.
First, read the history of tea, beginning in China in 2737 BC as Emperor Sh’eng Nung discovered steeping leaves in boiling water created a delicious tea. The first written history of tea also comes from China, this in the third century BC. The story of tea continues in Japan while moving throughout Asia, where it remained a primarily Asian brew until the late 1500s and the 1600s when either the Dutch or the Portuguese introduced it to Europe. Tea immediately became popular throughout Europe coming to England around 1658. Tea ceremonies were popular: low or afternoon tea, with sweets and small crust-less sandwiches, and high tea, with meat and vegetables that served as the main meal of the day.
Presented in a week-by-week format, each of the fifty-two entries includes an anecdote, prayer, or devotion, a verse, and a recipe for something to serve at afternoon tea. Following the devotional entries, there’s a discussion of the types, descriptions, and benefits of various teas as well as fruit-infused and herbal teas and instructions for preparing afternoon tea.
