Solid mini-biography. Basically remember that he didn't do anything to South Carolina when they seceded, which allowed for more secession and ultimately the war. Also, he was the only president to never marry. Now you know everything there is to know about Buchanan.

Only president who never married and never made a stand on slavery - his indecisiveness likely led to the Civil War.

Out of the few books I have been able to find on James Buchanan for young readers, this is the best. A very informative and interesting read without getting overly political to a point that elementary through junior high age students would not be able to follow. Even though James Buchanan was not an effective leader, he did work most of his life to honor and uphold The Constitution.
