Also writes paranormal romance under the pseudonym Jennifer Lyon.

I went back to college after my three sons, Matt, Gary and Paul, were born. Beginning with a vague idea of earning a marketing degree, I ended up pursuing a writing career with the full support of my husband, Dan.

First I tried to tame my naturally edgy voice into writing romance, but dead bodies and quirky humor turned up with alarming regularity. So did rejection letters in my mailbox! Dan nagged me to write something contemporary and funny. My mother dropped a hint about trying something modern. My sister mentioned how good I'd be at writing a comedy, maybe even a mystery. Dan agreed with them.

Finally, frustration drove me to murder, fictionally speaking, of course. And so, I have been forced to admit that my husband, mother and sister were right. Not entirely humbled, these days I am busy plotting future adventures for Samantha Shaw!

Quick summary
Becky Holmes is struggling to make ends meet for her and her 3-month old daughter, Sophie, but she's pulling it off. That is until her abusive ex-boyfriend (and the baby's father) gets an early release from prison and threatens her safety and plans to get custody of the child he doesn't even want. Her boss provides her a temporary place to stay in her cousin's cabin. See, Logan Knight is supposed to be out of town for awhile but, as luck will have it, returns that same night.

The issues
Logan is a former Marine suffering from PTSD as a result of his last mission in Afghanistan. He's working for a private security firm, Once a Marine, and is looking to create a refuge on his portion of the family's Texas ranch for other veterans who are suffering from the same syndrome. Unfortunately, his father made him sign an agreement years ago that returns the land to him if Logan isn't married by age 30, which will be in the next three months. He needs a temporary wife and Becky needs a temporary husband to maintain custody and have a safe place to live.

What I liked
In spite of her circumstances, Becky was resourceful, never giving in nor looking for a handout. She and Logan fit well, not just because of the outside demands bringing them together. While the story tips more on the romance scale, it still had enough suspense to fit the genre, especially with the threat always being in the background. I loved their romance and how Logan's PTSD issues were portrayed, nothing over the top but a realistic view of how debilitating the syndrome can be. He's an honorable man, trying to do the right thing in spite of his issues.

The bottom line
I enjoyed the story for its likable characters, sweet romance and underlying suspense. Though it's part of a series, it really can be read as a standalone as the characters from the previous story don't have substantive roles in this one.

i liked this story a lot more than I expected. I liked the plot, the hero and heroine. Of course I loved baby Sophie and Jiggy. Becky was so likable. I normally do not warm up to heroines, especially ones who are so saintly. But dissing Becky would be like kicking a puppy. She was sweet, kind, hard working, a good mother. And she could be fierce when required. I was impressed. Her baby Sophie was 3months old and absolutely adorable.

Sophie's father was a rich murdering SOB (her college boyfriend). He beat her up the night she told him she was pregnant - after he ran someone over with his car. Managed to get out of jail and comes back for Becky and Sophie. Enter Logan. A damaged, emotionally unavailable veteran with PTSD and a deep abiding fear of children. What better set up could you ask for? Of course before the end he screws up and she is too nice to really make him pay. But it worked and he certainly tried to grovel.

It was a sweet story. Steamy too. The baby was too cute. I recommend if you are looking for a light read that actually has a story to it.

3.5 Logan and Becky

Romantic drama with HEA 😊
Logan suffered from PTSD while Becky is currently living a nightmare..

I always like the heroine who knows how to fight for what she wants.. I also like that they were not stubborn to fight their attraction. 😏
It was a sweet read. The plot is good enough that you'll keep turning the page until the end. The story is quite predictable yet enjoyable.

Overall Opinion: This was a sweet read. I really like the single parent theme, so I was happy to jump right into this one. I wanted more interaction between the H and the baby, but I understand that it is hard for an author to write those connections when it's a baby (I love it when it's a young child like a toddler or older). PTSD is a major problem that our society faces, so I think this would appeal to many people. I usually like to be warned that this deals with something like ptsd before reading (love those spoilers!), so if you're like me -- there are mild ptsd moments with some mentions of the H's traumatizing military past, but there are no major flashbacks with graphic details with H becoming belligerent. I also felt like the very ending wasn't all that believable, and I felt like it was written that way to tie everything up with a pretty little bow and not for realistic purposes (See "closure" section below for spoiler that explains this further).

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Becky and Logan's story. Becky is a struggling single mom that has a dangerous ex that just got out of jail and is threatening her. She turns to her boss and ends up staying at her boss' cousin's house. Logan is shocked to find the mom, baby girl, and dog in his home when he arrives late at night, but learns that his cousin allowed it and she actually proposes that this woman is the solution to his problem. Logan needs a wife because of a contract he signed with his dad that he'd be married by his 30th birthday in order to inherit a large chunk of property. He needs this property to build his dream retreat for military personnel suffering from ptsd (which is something that he suffers from from his own military service). They get into a contractual marriage, and of course it doesn't stay platonic and deeper feelings develop. There is some ex drama, some sexy times, some family drama, and some sweet times...and the couple finally get their HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between focusing on Becky and Logan in 3rd person narrative.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I think it flowed well, and I didn't feel the need to skim at any point.

Instalove: No. I felt like there was adequate relationship development going on.

H rating: 3 stars. Logan. I liked him, but had some issues with him not communicating his feelings with the h.

h rating: 4 stars. Becky. I liked how she cared for her daughter, was a hard worker, and was upfront about her feelings.

Sadness level: Low. I didn't need any tissues.

Heat level: Moderate. They have some good chemistry. The scenes were decent, but not that many (which can be a good thing).

Descriptive sex: Yes.

Safe sex: Yes. Mentions of condom use and birth control.

OW/OM drama:Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating:

Possible Triggers:

Closure: This had some decent closure at the end, and I would call it a HEA ending. I did feel like some parts of it were unbelievable...

How I got it: I paid the $2.99 on Amazon

Safety: Safe with exception

I really like this series and this author. I'm really picky about the romance genre books I read. Don't tolerate angst, hate whiney, and just too cute can take a hike. My heroines have to be something other than a victim too. Humor and a touch of suspense get bonus point from me.

Becky Holmes made a mistake a lot of girls do - she got pregnant by the wrong guy. This story could have taken a turn into angstville, but it didn't. She found out real quick that the sperm donor was a real douche helped put him behind bars where he belonged. She was shocked when he showed up after serving barely five months of his sentence and threatened her and her baby sending them on the run with no resources. Her boss steps up and offers to let her stay at her cousins ranch. It turns out that this could be a mutually beneficial arrangement for both parties.

Logan Knight is a former Marine who suffers from PTSD. He is also hot and wealthy, but with a lot of baggage of his own. His father has him in a bind and the only way out is for Logan to get married. Logan needs a temporary wife and Becky needs a temporary hero: win-win. Well, until their real feelings get involved.

3.5 - "No one's ever loved me enough to stay." Stars!

The Once A Marine series is definitely improving with each book, I really enjoyed Adam and Meg’s book (The Baby Bargain), but Logan and Becky’s story was even better. Jennifer Apodaca, has once again combined just the right amount of romance, drama and suspense into the book to keep you reading until the end.

”Most people who see combat come home with scars. Everyone deals with it differently.”

Logan Knight is struggling to deal with the scars that he has returned with, plagued with nightmares and struggling with P.T.S.D, all he wants to do is set up his ranch as a safe place for other veterans to spend time at, and to be able to convalesce and receive the best help and support they can for their issues. Two things are standing in his way – his father and his lack of a wife.

Becky Holmes is in trouble, caring for a young baby is struggle enough, but she’s recently lost her mother to cancer, and her ex has just been released from prison. His time spent behind bars because she called the cops on him, and refused to take the blame for the hit and run accident he drove away from whilst she was in the car.

Logan and his family name offer her the protection and the stability she needs in order to fight a custody battle for her daughter. The daughter her ex never wanted, but is now using as his way to punish her for sending him to jail. A deal is struck, a contract is signed, and they agree to a mutually beneficial marriage, Logan gets his ranch, and Becky keeps custody of baby Sophie as well as having the powerful Knight Family as her allies.

I loved the sentiment between Logan and Becky in this book, they are emotionally scarred from things that have happened in their past, they are wary of each other initially and the emotions they are feeling, even though the chemistry is there, neither wants to rush headlong into something that they don't quite understand themselves.

Becky – “When you touch me, I feel safe, sexy and whole.”

Logan – “When I touch you, it all gets easier. Kissing you today was like that blanket – warm, soft and giving me a little protection.”

The bravery displayed by both of them in different ways, to push past their long held and deeply-rooted fears, so they are able to embrace something new together, in spite of the odds, interfering families and demented exes makes for a really enjoyable and heart-warming story.

She had the power to shove back the ugliness inside of him, the memories and the failures that shadowed his soul.

Although there isn’t really anything new offered up in the way of storyline, this second book in the Once A Marine Series, offers us another extremely hot leading man, a likeable, strong and sassy heroine, mix that with a little bit of suspense, a whole lot of sexyness and you are onto a winner, with a well written and easy to absorb book. I look forward to reading more books in this series in the future.

”You’re turning me and my world inside out. You make me want to become more than your temporary husband.”

My review:

This was just a cute and sweet read. Very little drama/low angst and little Sophie was just adorable.

Logan needs a wife before his 30th birthday so he can obtain the land deeded to him from his father, but he also suffered from PTSD - with kids being one of his triggers. When he literally comes home and walks in on Becky residing in his home, he is confused but immediately attracted to her. He is petrified of baby Sophie at first, but it was adorable watching him come around. Becky works for his cousin as a home cleaner and she was giving Logan's home to stay in temporarily for protection. Since her ex boyfriend was released from jail early and apparently was out to get her. Once Logan hears what she is going through, he thinks they both can help each other by being temporarily married. Of course, they are both attracted to each other, so if some sex happens in the mean time, that's great too right? Logan didn't plan on falling in love, but the more time he spends with Becky and baby Sophie, he just can't help but to love them both. The drama was small and handled very quickly. I thought Logan did a great job to prove his worth as a true husband to Becky. I would have forgiven him in a heart beat!

Just the read I needed after my last read ;)

Oh! And I LOVED his quote in regards to Kenda - the bitch that tries to make drama -

"If Kendra were a man, she'd be picking her sorry ass up off the ground and searching for her teeth."
LMAO!!!!

I am a sucker for a marine. I am also a sucker for a cowboy. So when I discovered that our hero was an an ex-marine turned cowboy...

description

The second book in the Once A Marine series was a delight. From the moment I picked it up I was captivated, because aside of a hot marine-slash-cowboy to sigh over, it has a heartwarming touching storyline that encompasses fear, fight and determination from both our leading lady and gent. And Logan Knight is a gent; a brooding, protective gent with a wonderful albeit tormented heart. I admired Becky as despite her personal tragedy and her own fears, she's a strong, caring and selfless lady who will do anything to keep her daughter safe from her violent ex. With Logan being from a wealthy powerful family and being in the position to help her and her baby girl, Sophie, it had a little of a Cinderella feel to it.

description

Passionate and intimate, their journey is one of trust and understanding and with a lovely chemistry was filled with many touching moments combined with those that pulled on the heartstrings. Logan's interactions with Sophie brought the sighs and his dirty talk brought the swoons. He truly was a hero to fall in love with.

“Swear to God, you walk like that again in that short skirt, and I’m going to drag you into Mac’s office, lock the door, bend you over a table and rip your panties off. Again. Christ, I’m rock hard for you.”

Granted it didn't hold any huge surprises but it was a lose-yourself sexy romance. The Knight's were valuable secondary characters and along with those from the previous book (The Baby Bargain), it's opened the door for more. If you're after a gentle but very sexy hero, a loveable lady and a family-feel contemporary romance, then this is exactly that.

I really liked this one. Becky and Logan so needed each other, they just didn't know it. Being stuck in their agreement gave them the time they needed to get to know each other and to realize the other was perfect for them. I liked that Logan was able to let Becky see his PTSD and help him and that Becky was able to let Logan help her with Sophie. The scenes with Logan and Sophie were great, so tentative at first, but as time went on Sophie seemed to heal Logan's past.

I loved how this one ended, loved that both were willing to give up what they wanted to secure things for the other. Yet in the end it didn't matter, they got it all.

4.0 RATING- When I saw Her Temporary Hero on sale and read the blurb, I snagged it up. I can't resist a damsel in distress story line! The writing was good and the sweet parts were evened out with the a few nicely done steamy parts. Nothing over the top but appropriate for the type of book this is. The story kept me interested from beginning to end and overall, I was happy I picked this up. I actually went back and snagged the first title in the Once a Marine series while it was on sale too!

A cowboy marine, a woman in jeopardy and a baby. What's not to love?!?! I've been waiting for this book ever since I finished Ms. Apodaca's THE BABY BARGAIN. Logan Knight, former marine, has abandonment issues and now, the one place where he goes for solace is about to ripped out from under him by his controlling father. Suffering from combat-related PTSD, Logan will do whatever he needs to to keep the land that keeps him centered. Heir-apparent to the Knight family and their impressive Texas ranch, Logan only wants to build a camp for wounded warriors.

Becky Holmes was a beauty queen who used her scholarship money to get a college degree and start nursing school. One lapse of judgement left her unmarried, pregnant, and then involved in a hit-and-run with the baby daddy driving--who then beat her. He's out of prison and is now coming after her baby. Becky is as emotionally fragile as Logan and when they find each other, they plan to keep the relationship temporary.

Logan needs a wife to get the land he wants from his father. Becky needs protection from Sophie's psychopath of a father. It's a win-win, right? Where's the fun in that?!? The author thoughtfully addresses the issue of PTSD and treatment of returning veterans. She weaves a love story about two damaged people learning to love each other and becoming stronger as a result.

Love the book, the characters, and the author!

I have been waiting for quite some time for the second installment of Jennifer Apocada's Once a Marine series to release. When I saw Her Temporary Hero on Netgalley I jumped for joy. I read The Baby Bargain more than a year ago and I immediately knew that this was going to be a series I was going to be following.

One year later and Her Temporary Hero is finally out! Woo hoo!

Although I didn't really enjoy the wait (as I'm impatient) it was well worth it. Logan was oh so sweet and sexy. He was a gentleman to the core and I loved him for that. Becky was also a heroine I adored. She got caught up in a bad situation and I admired her for being strong despite her circumstances and a jerk of an ex-boyfriend.

Logan and Becky together produced many sizzling moments and the chemistry between the two was well written. I also liked the ensemble of characters that the author included in Her Temporary Hero. I hope Pam (Logan's sister) will get her own story. I think she definitely deserves her own hero as well ;)

Her Temporary Hero was a sweet and sexy contemporary romance with bits of angst thrown in. I really enjoyed reading this story and I think fans of contemporary romance will find this to their liking as well.

Happy Release Day!

I enjoyed this one. The trope of the good girl with a baby who both need protection is one that I like. Becky's ex-boyfriend is such a jerk, and scary, too. He's the kind of character that you really want to see HURT. Thankfully, Logan seems like the right guy to do it. What with his military and body guard background. That is, once he gets over the shock of finding Becky, the baby, and their silly little dog, Jiggy, in his home.

She needs a safe place to be and he needs a wife so he can get the land that he loves. Her boss, and his cousin, thinks they might be good for each other. They certainly have some HEAT between them.

There are lots of secondary characters that add a nice depth to this one. I did have a quibble with the fact that three month old baby seemed more like a five month old, but that's a small thing. Kind of odd, actually as the next book I read had the same issue! Three month olds don't notice the world nearly as much as this one did. But still, this was fun. There's a scene where Becky puts on her "beauty queen" persona, much like someone putting on a mask, and it blows Logan's socks off. Yes, that was fun!

I will definitely be watching for more from Ms. Apodaca!

Thank you, Entangled and Jennifer Apodaca, for the opportunity to read Her Temporary Hero.

Everyone wants a hero in their lives but Becky never thought she would actually find one. Marriage of convenience is a favorite trope of mine and Her Temporary Hero brings it to the table with a wealthy sexy war hero suffering from PTSD and an overbearing father together with a young beautiful single mother who is running from an insane ex boyfriend. A sweet and emotional love story that teaches two people that letting go of the past can open the door to a wonderful future. A fairy tale like steamy journey from lust to love with a nice balance of conflict made this an engaging story.

3.5 ⭐

I liked this book but it was a soft premise, she is on run from a rich, powerful, ex bf, the father to her baby. Her boss, sends her to hide out in her rich cousin's house, who happens to come home early. He also is in a precarious position, a contract with his tough as nails father, that he needs a wife by his 30th birthday. Soft.

That said this author makes incredible, identifiable characters, in both this book and the 1st in the series I saw people I knew with in the characters in the book which drew me in deeper. This story just didn't connect for me like book 1 did. I liked it. Just didnt love it.

~~~
REVIEW: HER TEMPORARY HERO is the second instalment in Jennifer Apodaca’s (aka Jennifer Lyon) adult, contemporary Once A Marine romance series focusing on a group of ex-Marines and the women that they love. This is Becky Holmes and Logan Knight’s storyline.
Becky is a single mother on the run from her ex boyfriend. Logan is a man who needs a wife before he turns thirty otherwise the land that was promised to him, reverts back to his father. When Logan’s cousin Luce finds a temporary home for Becky and her daughter, she has knowingly pushed the couple into one another’s arms-for better or for worse. As Logan’s dream for setting up a rehab centre for recovering veterans begins to materialize, someone from Logan’s past brings everything to a halt when the truth is finally revealed.
The relationship between Becky and Logan begins as a mutual agreement but soon turns to something more. Becky and Logan marry and for all intents and purposes they are husband and wife-for three months. But life has other plans as Logan begins to fall in love with Becky and her daughter knowing that without his little family life would not be worth living. When Becky’s ex finally tracks her down, everything begins to fall apart when lives are threatened and Logan’s family believes that Becky has taken everyone for a ride. Logan’s family has lots of money and Becky is the perfect excuse to control Logan from the other side.
Jennifer pulls the reader into a romantic story where two people brought together out of necessity remain together out of love. The secondary characters include Logan’s family including half-sisters, step-mother and dad. Logan’s dad is a piece of work, one that doesn’t go unnoticed by his family or Logan’s wife.
HER TEMPORARY HERO is a sweet, romantic and seductive storyline. There is a little bit of cowboy in our hero-a former marine who needs the open spaces and land as much as the recovering soldiers-and in this, we are pulled into the nightmares and memories of war that is still claiming too many heroes and loved ones.
Her Temporary Hero, written by Jennifer Apodaca is a July 14 2014 release from Entangled Publishing and the second book in the Once A Marine series.
Set in a small Texan town, Becky Holmes is on the run from her baby's daddy, son of one of the richest families in town. He's dirty dirty dirty and is stalking Becky to get custody of their baby. Becky is sent to goooorrrgeous ex-Marine Logan Knights house to hide out, her boss's cousin's house, thinking Logan will be away for a while. Logan isn't away, comes home, tired and exhausted, to an unknown lady in his bed accompanied by an unknown baby and an unknown dog. He's NOT amused! After calming down, he agree's to give Becky and baby home for the night, last thing he can do is turf them out.
Becky isn't the only one with a problem she needs a hand with. Logan needs to be married by his 30th birthday in order to have his asshole father sign it over to him. Logan works the land, loves the land and has dreams for the land. A temporary wife should be ok... he can help Becky keep custody of her lil baby and he can earn his land.
Becky is a young, lovable gal who just wants to do right by her baby and certainly doesn't want to loose the baby to her dirty, criminal and scary ex. She regrets being sucked in to thinking her ex thought of her more than just a trailer park girl. Working nights she's saving as much as she can to fight the custody battle. I love Becky's mix of innocence and hard working ethic. Becky lost her momma recently and feels the weight of the world on her shoulders.
Logan. Oh yes, Logan. Southern gentleman with a backbone of steel. He's left the Marines and now works for Once a Marine Security Agency. He's haunted by what he's seen and done. A decade in the Marines have helped him chose his future dream and he's not about to let his father stand in his way. Logan is haunted by the past and tells Becky straight up he's going to be no good with the babe. Logan's inbuilt passion for doing the right thing see's him taking care of Becky as well as fighting his feelings.
Her Temporary Hero is such a fab read filled with great lines. It's full of explosive action, fast paced adventure, mind blowing passion all mixed in with some good ole southern lovin! The characters are very very likable and things move at a great pace. If you've read Entangled before you'll know what I mean when I say this is an Entangled story through and through. The amount of passion, the adventure, the engaging characters all kept me fully engaged until the heartbreakingly thrilling finale.
I'd totally recommend this book and I will be looking into the other Once a Marine series. I loved Logan enough to want to know him in real life.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to offer an honest opinion :)
I ABSOLUTELY ADORED Her Temporary Hero by Jennifer Apodaca! This book took a chunk of my heart and ran away with it. It was incredibly moving, emotional, and sexy! You can NEVER go wrong with a damaged ex-marine cowboy with a body like a god and an incredibly beautiful soul. Her Temporary Hero is book two in Jennifer Apodaca's Once A Marine series, but seeing as I haven't read book one, The Baby Bargain (which just shot up in my TBR list by the way), this can definitely be read as a standalone. I have only been familiar with Jennifer Lyon's Plus One Chronicles, but I have to say, no matter who Jennifer is writing as, it's guaranteed to be a WINNER in my book!
Becky and Logan's story had just the right amount of romance to make your heart melt. It had the right amount of drama and suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat, and it had the right amount of sex to keep you blushing for days. These two scarred individuals are being beaten down every day because of their past. Logan is an ex-marine with nightmares that are taking a piece of his soul every night. He can't escape them, he can't change them, and he doesn't want to share the burden with anyone. All he wants is his land, so he can turn it into something amazing. Becky is a single mom who is on the run from a crazy ex with wealthy connections. All she wants to do is keep her baby safe, and she will do anything to make that happen. After their intense, unexpected meeting, Logan and Becky immediately feel the intense chemistry between them. These two aren't in a hurry to start up a romance with anyone. They have too much on their minds to deal with anything complicated. But when they both need each other to achieve their goal, circumstances forces them to become even closer. Before they know it, their heart and soul get in the way, and they are falling harder than ever. The plan that they worked so hard on, is crumbling with every kiss, every touch, every embrace, and before you know it, the lines that were blurred, are now, nowhere in sight.
Ms. Apodaca heats up the pages with Her Temporary Hero. Romantic, sexy, and emotional, this book hit the spot! I can't wait to backtrack and read book 1, and I will be first in line with whatever comes next in the Once A Marine Series!
I'm really enjoying The Once A Maine series. I had never read a cowboy book before so Logan was my "first" ;) and I loved him.
I think Jennifer really captured the essence of suffering form post traumatic stress without going overboard. She shows Logan's limitation without making him look weak. This is so good because most people really don't have a clue what these people go through. Needless to say I was happily impressed especially when a character in the book does look down on those with ptsd, considering them as weak.
So we have 22 year old single mom Becky whose ex (Dylan)and father of the baby has been released from prison. He committed a hit and run as well as beat up Becky while pregnant putting her into the hospital. He's from one of the wealthiest families in the Dallas area and pulled strings to be released. Becky's mom has also just recently died. Becky is working as a cleaning person and sewing pageant dresses to support Sophie and herself. Dylan confronts Becky telling her that he plans on getting custody of Sophie.
Scared with no where to turn, Becky calls her boss Lucinda and asks for help. Lucinda is SO smart ;). Becky is set up at Logan's house since he's away.
Logan has an agreement with his father that he must be married and living the ranch in order to claim is land. So Logan heads home trying to figure out how he will manage this agreement. He plans on setting up a place on his land for those suffering ptsd to come and heal.
When Logan walks into his house he finds Becky, Sophie and Jiggy the bull dog (I love him) in his house. Things go from bad to worse. After he speaks with Lucinda he mellows out. Eventually Logan and Becky work out an agreement where they will be married for a few months so she doesn't lose Sophie and he gets his land. What could possibly go wrong ;) - let Jen tell you :). Enjoy!
Now I really can't wait for Hunt's story.
I was interested in this book at first because I’m a sucker for Marine books. This book however exceeded my expectations. There are several plot twists that kept me in this book. The sexy parts were written well and the growth between the characters was timed well and in much better fashion than many stories.
The story between Logan and Becky was written and thought out well. They did not fall into “love at first sight”, but did have a connection that grew. To me that played important into the story. I was able to follow the feelings without whiplash and wanted to follow the story through. I felt that the chemistry and emotions felt true and not forced. I did however at times feel the dialogues seemed somewhat stiff, but this didn’t take away much from the story for me.
Logan is sexy! A marine, and a cowboy both in one that loves to pleasure his woman, um… sign me up! He is amazing and even with his inner demons proving to himself he can’t love or care he continues to grow daily into this amazing man. Becky is just true beauty inside and out and her soft strength pulled this story and Logan together.
This book carried some very popular plot points, broken returned marine, fake marriage, terrifying ex, meddling outsiders. But even with all of the plots that at times feel redundant through the book world this book kept me interested. I look forward to reading more books from Jennifer Apodaca in the future!
REVIEW:
I loved it! Becky is a single mom on the run from an abusive and dangerous ex and Logan Knight is just the man to protect her. He's dealing with his own emotional issues from serving in the marines. I loved him! Sexy cowboy who knows how to talk dirty. Yum! Her Temporary Hero is fill of plenty of action, danger, and smoking hot romance. I couldn't put it down! Jennifer Apodaca who also writes as Jennifer Lyon always delivers a great story and is one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend this book and can't wait for the next book in the Once a Marine series. Also be sure to check out the erotica romance series and paranormal romance books she writes as Jennifer Lyon. I love them all!
I liked how the author blended sexy and sweet into the same story, and I thought a lot of the dialogue was very well done. It all went along just fine for me until towards the end when I felt the hero's mother was unnecessarily demonized. Especially in light of the fact that we have two pretty over-the-top villains already in this story - one of which is the hero's father! A father who, incidentally, is allowed to make amends somewhat - a development I found inexcusable considering how vile he was. He's allowed to show up hat in hand and yet the hero's mother (saintly in comparison!) continues to be labelled as "bad." It cast a heroine in a poor light, as she failed to see the similarities between her situation and the situation the hero's mother once found herself in. You ain't that different from her cupcake.
I've read Jennifer Apodaca's Samantha Shaw Mystery series, which I enjoyed a lot, so I know she can write a great character. I didn't know what to expect from her romance, and I was pleasantly surprised.
By Chapter 3, I was in love with Logan and couldn't put the book down. A little racy in parts, however I was reading at the airport and on an airplane so I was just slightly embarrassed reading some scenes, but it was a good racy. :)
I haven't been reading much lately, so for me to pick up a book and finish it in 24hrs.... I'd say, Very well done. I enjoyed everything about it.
