the back and forth between kaya and kyohei is terribly exhausting… thank god there’s only one volume left

!! More of like a 2.5 / 5 // I’ll be leaving the same review on volumes 2-7 as I read them all in one day !!
Quite an enjoyable series tbh, but definitely won’t be a favourite. It was nice to read something more adult for once, though I did find myself kind of getting bored at times as the main character just monologues to herself a lot. I liked how it started to go in the last 2 volumes tho, super interesting, just sad it ended so openly!!

Almost done!!! Kaya and Kyohei are making fantastic progress and I'm so excited to see where they end up. I know I'm gonna get emotional saying goodbye next volume (even if I've been making fun of them this entire time).

This was actually really good 😭 the plot was plotting, the character development was there, overall a thoroughly enjoyable read. And i am so happy about the bonus feature at the end, i got to see my pookie wookie schmookie bear again!

I knocked both volumes 5 and 6 out back to back so the storyline is a bit more blurred, but all in all there is necessary regression in the plot line. The series wraps up with volume 7 which has not yet been released, so final conflicts and adversaries are making big moves. The suspense is pretty good and while the plot is overall predictable, there are a few twists and turns here and there that keep the story interesting. Volume 6 definitely leaves you wanting to know how it ends, so you’ll want Volume 7 right away.
As I stated before, I read this manga series once upon a time when it was still in Japanese. I was surprised to see it show up as an ARC some years later. It’s definitely an easy read and the plot is pretty straightforward. It’s a really nice option if you’re in between reads. I like the artwork and if you’re into comics, manga and romance, I imagine this series would be right up your alley to check out. There’s brief nudity and sexual situations, but it doesn’t overtake the story or qualify as hentai in my opinion.

This volume suffered from a lack of focus. The “I love yous” had been said in the last volume so this one suffered in comparison.
The volume went the Harlequin Presents route with a pregnancy scare - because after the declaration of love the children “naturally” must follow (🙄🙄🙄)
The art was lovely - Kyohei in a formal three piece suite was so lovely that I am giving the volume an extra star. Plus we saw see the head of the vampire clan which was a lot of fun
I like the art here and there was a super cute cat chapter which put this over 😍😍😍

Things are drawing to a close in this penultimate volume of the series. The couple have confirmed their feelings for each other and committed to a monogamous relationship. But there are still some issues they must surmount, all of which have to do with the vampire clan of Touma's family.
In this volume, Kaya worries she might be pregnant and realizes that could be problematic considering the vampire clan's need for children. They would likely take any child away, regardless if vampire or human, and that she could not allow. Touma also seeks to protect her by not getting her pregnant or marrying her.
It is all leading up to a showdown with the vampire clan as the clan leader comes to Kaya and gives her some dire warnings. What they have together may not be enough to protect them if Kaya does become pregnant.
Also included is a short story involving Kaya's former boss, President Takasu, and her cat princess.

The next volume is the last one, so the climax is coming. Things are getting serious, so the next volume should be good.
There was a pregnancy scare in this volume, between Kyohei and Kaya, but then between them and the vampire clan. Kaya’s not, and the possibility doesn’t sound horrible to her, but it would cause trouble with Kyohei, his being a vampire and everything. He doesn’t want that. Which might be good for now, but I hope that they actually talk it out in the next volume. They need to talk about what they both actually want in the future.
The vampire clan is getting serious and causing problems for them, and I’m interested to see how it wraps up in the next volume, since I really am not sure.
There was also an extra chapter at the end featuring President Takasu. It really just showed that he’s a sweet, good guy. It made me actually like him, too, and really see what’s so good about him. And now I want him to have a happy ending, too.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this series wraps up. I’m also looking forward to Spell ofDesire, Tomu Ohmi’s other series being released soon.

This is one of the volumes where I really remember why I liked the series when I read it in scanlation. Kaya and Kyohei have opened up to each other about their love - both of them are not willing to hide it or take any well-meaning (or otherwise) advice about their love.
So we get great confrontations with Kyohei's parents, a human slave of the local vampire boss and the boss himself. Meanwhile Kaya has a scare about being pregnant, because that would probably make her child a pawn to the vampires (in reality it turns out that she's overworked and hasn't had a period because of that) - I love the fact that stuff like this is addressed even if it sometimes is hilarious (Kyohei not only makes love to her to make her blood taste better now, he makes extra-love to her because he can't get enough of her because of love).
They really deal with their insecurities by going to the other one and talking about it, or asking about it. All the danger now is from outside, because their relationship itself is firm now.
And Kaya still ruled the roost and makes Kyohei do what's best for the company ^^ - even when he can't bother.

Effectivement, l’histoire est banale et extrêmement prévisible : la secrétaire et son patron qui tombent amoureux avec une touche de fantastique qui fait du patron en question un vampire. Je pense que c’est pas le genre de série qui révolutionne quoi que ce soit ou qui offre des twists surprenants. C’est plutôt le genre on plonge et on a le coup de cœur soit on l’a pas. Perso, je l’ai eu.
Kaya est très mignonne. Contrairement à beaucoup de personnages féminins impliqués dans des histoires d’amour mangas, elle n’est pas niaise. Elle est intelligente et a la tête sur les épaules. Elle est très vite parfaitement consciente de ses sentiments pour Tohma. Il n’y a que son rôle de secrétaire trop présent dans son esprit et son dévouement un peu trop précipité dans l’histoire qui fait un peu d’ombre au tableau. Mais ça ne la rend pas moins adorable. Son complexe d’avoir un visage trop enfantin est compréhensible et brise l’image de la secrétaire-robot et sévère qu’elle souhaite se donner. Ça la rend plus humaine. Plutôt drôle étant donné le contexte de l’histoire…
Tohma est exactement ce qu’on attend du personnage. Séduisant, mystérieux, charmant et en apparence, froid et distant. Il est en vérité très attentif envers Kaya. Il l’aide à passer au dessus de son grand complexe et reste étonnement à l’écoute de Kaya. Il répond parfaitement à l’attente qu’on peut avoir d’un personnage de ce genre de josei : qu’il nous plaise, que le lecteur le trouve séduisant. Il l’est totalement.

Today’s post is on Midnight Secretary, Vol. 6 by Tomu Ohmi. It is 192 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover is dark blue with Kyohei and Kaya on it. As it is the sixth in the series you need to have read the first five volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes josei manga and vampire love stories. There is very mild foul language, sex and sexuality, and no violence in this volume. The story is told from third person close of Kaya. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

Review- This volume has some great movement in Kaya and Kyohei’s relationship with them being more open about it. We also get to see more vampire politics as they think Kaya is pregnant and try to kidnap her. The elders of the vampire clan are trying to make Kyohei have a baby and if he won’t with Kaya then she needs to get out of the way. Of course that goes over well with them both. The head of the clan is going to make Kyohei’s life more difficult but with only one volume left, I’m sure it will work out just fine. I’m curious about how everything is to be in the end but I’m looking forward to seeing it.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Volume 6 is probably the best book out of the series so far. I feel like we are getting more into the vampire politics, which I like. The main couple is still working out their kinks, but at least the ML is more responsive and expressive. Not as cold as the beginning books, which is nice. There is also that pregnancy scare which was interesting.
I have one more book and I'll be done with the series!

So plot is wrapping up and also feeling more solid in this volume, though we do have some new characters that I feel could have been introduced sooner.
I really liked the bonus story with Snow White aka "Princess" the cat, it was adorable and probably my favorite part of this volume.
One volume left to go, probably to be read tomorrow.

2020 Read #65
I wish some of the things in this volume, like the vampire king or whatever he is, had been brought up earlier in the series. I would have liked more world-building about the vampires and their world rather than it being shoehorned in as conflict in the final volumes. As it is, I still like the series, but it does have its flaws.

This is a smutty manga between a secretary and a Vampire.
This did bother me a little in terms of the toxic masculinity and how the heroine was treated by the main love interest. But it did have a slow burn aspect that I adored and it was super steamy and sexy. Just want I needed and wanted when I needed and wanted it. I read all 7 volumes in one day.

Almost to the end! Kyohei has firmly cemented his loyalty to Kaya, but with the vampire clan monitoring their actions, their relationship is once again being tested. It was great to see Kyohei really own up to his feelings and be protective of Kaya, even though he’s still an asshole and isn’t quite as kind to her as I would prefer him to be. I’m excited to see how it will end!

Le puse una pausa al maga por estar viendo un anime de vampiros, y aparte, realmente no quiero terminar este manga, por ello me tardé tanto en terminar este tomo 😭.
Entiendo que el presidente quiere proteger a Kaya, pero decirle que nunca será su esposa y no tendrá hijos con ella… es un poco bastante ouch, sabiendo que ella está súper enamorada de él.

Two things…..
One, I didn’t know he had an ear cuff? Apparently, he’s had one since the beginning (I went back and looked).
Two, the floating faces are getting to me really badly. I’m not gonna go through and count how many there are, but I know there were at least 10 that I took note of.

Things are getting pretty serious. The elders seems to be out of their minds thinking that they could kidnap someone off the streets. I loved the extra chapter in the end with the cat. It was adorable

The pregnacy story line was dumb like... so stupid but we meet the head of the vampires. The last chapter's ending was very cute when he admits his feelings. I also lovedddd the extra cause that is my man a cat dad all the way.

When he finally admits to loving her, things get fascinating very fast. I wish we had more information about the other vampires, but I think they make a good, if not a quickly introduced, antagonist. But once we overcame his aversion to loving Kaya, there needed to be a new adversary.

3.5 stars. phew their progress has not taken a backward step and I am relieved. the current drama is much more interesting.
