Bill Johnson and his wife Brenda (Beni) Johnson are the Senior Pastors of Bethel Church in Redding, California. Johnson is a fifth generation pastor.
Johnson was born in Minnesota in 1951 and became a Christian as a young child. Soon after, Johnson read seven books on prayer, which significantly affected his perspective and subsequent ministry.
Bill Johnson and his wife have three children: Eric, Brian and Leah.
Johnson speaking at a conference Bill Johnson and Beni (Brenda) began as singles pastors under his father at Bethel. In 1979, they became senior pastors of Mountain Chapel in Weaverville, California.
While pastoring in Weaverville, Johnson attended a 1987 conference led by John Wimber, founder of the Vineyard Church Movement. According to Johnson "A number of healings and manifestations broke out and I didn't know what to do with it. I didn't object to it, I wasn't opposed to it; I just didn't know how to pastor it in a way that it would continue and increase".
In 1995, Johnson attended the Toronto Blessing revival at the Toronto Airport Vineyard church. Johnson relates: "In Toronto I said, 'Lord, if You touch me again I will never change the subject.' So I went up for prayer every time it was offered. I didn't have anything dramatic happen, but I came home and said, 'I am going to give the rest of my life to this.'"
In February 1996, after 17 years of leading the Weaverville church, the Johnsons were invited to become senior pastors of Bethel. Today Johnson describes Bethel as a church where "everything we do either fuels revival or is fueled by revival." Under his leadership, Bethel left the Assemblies of God in 2006 to become a nondenominational charismatic church.
According to a recent book written by Johnson, "Face to Face with God", Bethel is "a church where supernatural encounters with God happen regularly, miracles are common, and the congregation has an infectious passion for spiritual growth." The church has approximately 1,500 members, and a School of Supernatural Ministry.
Their Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry has 1,200 students enrolled with over 370 from other countries. Johnson leads a network of churches dedicated to global, multi-generational revival, Global Legacy. Johnson has written a number of books and travels extensively as a featured revival conference speaker. Johnson is also involved with the Northern California Revival Fellowship, a group of north Californian pastors committed to revival.
Before reading this book I was extremely ignorant to the level of heretical false teachings infiltrating the Christian world view through the Word of Faith movement and the New Apostolic Reformation movement. Since then I have discovered many other influential people preaching, teaching, and writing books that completely reject core foundational understanding of scripture and creating their own God, their own Jesus and their own Holy Spirit to suit their desires all while misleading thousands and turning a profit off of it. My heart broke time and time again reading and seeing how Bill Johnson blasphemes God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE compare everything in this book to scripture. Be Berean. Please don’t be ignorant to what the Word of God teaches, reveals, and communicates. It’s shocking how many people praise this book as truth with Bill Johnson’s blatant contradictions to the Bible. The only logical explanation is that many or most Christians don’t read or know their Bible. It doesn’t take scholarly level hermeneutics to compare these concepts to God’s word. Bill Johnson is a charlatan. This book is of the spirit of the antichrist. Please, once again, test this against God’s revealed Word. A false Gospel isn’t good news.
A transformed mind is a necessity for us to see the change in culture that we want to see.
I enjoyed reading this book because it gave me what I needed to understand the importance of Christians doing the work of transforming their minds. Bill johnson shows how unless we have a transformed mind that believes and goes after the supernatural life, we will have a hard time showing the unbeliever the power of our God.
God desires to transform your mind for the Kingdom
I recommend this book to anyone searching for the Kingdom of Heaven, especially believers with creative abilities and active imaginations. If you’re a Christian and feel like there’s something missing from your life, this book is for you. Bill Johnson’s teaching will equip and affirm your place in the body of Christ, as well as restore your trust in God’s goodness.
A Challenging Call to Christ Followers in the 21st Century
I broke new ground in understanding several of Jesus’ teachings on believing Him and putting into practice His principles in my time. A huge boost of encouragement to dream and garner ideas to co-labor together with God for a lasting legacy of investment for generations to come. Excellent!
I loved this book so much! It’s a shorter sequel to “When Heaven Invades Earth”. I finished this book with a greater assurance that miracles, signs, and wonders are a by-product of whole-heartedly pursuing God. While allowing His thoughts to be the reality that we live from- we are commissioned as ambassadors of the Kingdom. Great read!!!
One of my recent challenges has been the renewal of my mind. This book gives insight on how to foster that and why we should desire the renewing of the mind. Bill Johnson always writes in such a way that makes change a very positive goal and experience.
“For it is still true that it is His kindness that leads to repentance. (See Romans 2: 4.).” So much wisdom packed in this book, but it comes down to this quote from Romans. Be kind as Christ demonstrated.
This was the first book I had read by Bill Johnson but it won't be the last. My way of thinking and perspective has changed about many things. This book has been a great blessing to me and I think it will be so to many. A must read.
Thanks Bill for opening my eyes to how God wants to partner with us to wonderfully transform this world we live in our day I commit to seeking His Face to this end and will encourage all those I know to do the same "May your Kingdom come here as it is in Heaven"
Not sure what to think about this book or it’s message. There’s a lot of catchy phrases and feel-good promises that I’m not sure line up with the Bible. But there’s also some thought-provoking ideas that bear further study.
Bill Johnson is sounding the trumpet for all Christians to stop asking, “WWJD“ (What Would Jesus Do?), and instead “DWJD,” “Do What Jesus Did.” To “Do What Jesus Did,” we must renew our minds to what the Bible says is possible and normal for a Christian.
I love how personal God is! I had the opportunity to read The Supernatural Power of a Transformed Mind by Bill Johnson this past spring/summer. During the same time that I was beginning this book, our church started a sermon series that complemented the book. It wasn’t anything intentional on my part to read this book simultaneously with the sermon series - which is why I said I love how personal God is.
This book is terrific. In my opinion, it’s Biblical as it reinforced a lot of the truths that God was teaching me on Sundays mixed with personal, inspirational stories that encouraged me just from reading them. They were told in such a way that I felt as though I was there experiencing the real life events alongside the people they happened to. I grew excited knowing that events that were described don’t have to be “extraordinary” but they should be the norm for fellow believers here in 2014. God wants to bless us on this earth - not just with our salvation but also with so much more. Whether or not we choose to accept that blessing - well, that’s up to us.
I have been reading it slowly, one chapter at a time, in order to savor the truths God wants to speak to my heart. This is a book that can be read once and much can be gotten out of it - or a book that can be read multiple times and new truths will pop off the page each time, depending upon where I am in my spiritual journey.
This is a great book for an individual Bible study, a book club, two friends studying this aspect of Scripture together, or a family reading it together and sharing different ways God spoke to each one individually. It’s wonderful for men, women, and I believe even older children will grasp the truths mentioned because of the wonderful illustrations through true-life events that are shared throughout the pages. If you haven’t grown up in a church where teaching about the Holy Spirit or prophesizing or other blessings that God wants all believers to have was taught, this is a great book to introduce who the Holy Spirit is and some of the reasons why Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to help His children. It explains in more depth and gives greater understanding about the Christians talked about in the Bible who received the Holy Spirit and then went on to wonderful things in His name.
I absolutely loved this book. I realized when I began this book that Bill Johnson wrote another book, When Heaven Invades Earth. This book can definitely be read before When Heaven Invades Earth, but I am curious now and want to read that book also.
I received this book for free from Book Club Network and Destiny Image in exchange for my honest opinion. This book was a true blessing, opening up a whole new depth for me in my personal walk with God. It was an honor to read it.

The Supernatural Power of a Transformed Mind is an interesting book. The author, Bill Johnson, presents the reader with biblical references as to how we Christians living in today’s world can access the same healing power and grace that the Apostles and Jesus himself had while they walked this earth. This book is an interesting read with a large number of stories of folks that have accessed this power by transforming their minds and walk in a life of miracles.

This is a wake-up call to comfortable Christians. Johnson wants Christians to experience all that is promised in the Bible, including co-laboring with God. He believes the normal Christian life includes miracles, spiritual interactions, and revelation. He gives good instruction on how to move into the ministry of the supernatural. He also tells us what to look out for. See my full review at http://bit.ly/1mYJxDP. I received a complimentary copy of this book through The Book Club Network for the purpose of an independent and honest review.
The author did a great job of making this book easy to understand. I enjoyed that the author presented things in a different way than I was used to. A good example of this is in chapter 9 when the author mentions uses all your senses to make decisions. I also thought that the part on letting go of your guilt was new and refreshing. Miracles happy every day, we just don't see them. This book gave me ideas on how to be on the lookout. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy to review from The Book Club Network Inc., however all opinions are my own.
I received what I needed when I needed it from this book as a practicing Christian. However, not being a fundamentalist there were a few things with which I did not agree. However, overall I would recommend this book. The genuinely true spiritual nuggets are well worth it.
Awesome awesome book...Bill and Bethel continue to inspire, encourage, and educate to live immersed in the powerful presence of God. A must read for anyone wanting to experience the true power of God in their lives!
