Very strange yet refreshing book. I would recommend this to my lay people interested in how to read the Bible better in terms of devotion, not memorization.
This book is moreso about a legalistic evangelical woman realizing that memorizing vast portions of scripture was useless and in fact harmful to her faith since she had no idea what those scriptures meant.
So, she began reading the text more devotionally and researching its context, historical geography, etc and it made memorizing more fruitful because she was applying it to Christ and her own life.
The stories of missionaries and soldiers surviving POW camps by the refreshment of their memorized scripture was also encouraging.
