Although growing up without a father and having an addict for a mother, Skyla wasn't your typical little hood vixen, growing up on the streets and sleeping around to make ends meet. She had grandparents that took her in and treated her like their own. Her grandmother nurtured her and her grandfather showed her how a lady was supposed to be treated. Skyla excelled in academics and was almost the perfect child. Her only downfall was choosing the wrong man to fall in love with. Take this journey with Skyla and her best friend Rayne as they experience, love, hurt, betrayal and disappointment from the ones that they love. It's cliché but its real...everything that looks good to you is not always good for you…
I enjoyed this book. It was good from the beginning to the end. It was a good read from a new author. The story line was enjoyable. The story was very detailed. It was interesting to follow Skyla's story. The book was funny. I could not put this book down. I can't wait for the next one. I look forward to reading more books by SMPLY GORJS. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
Yes Nisha!!! There were a few errors but I loved this read! The relationship between Sky and Nia was crazy. The thought of a mother chasing behind anything other than being a parent to their child can cause many problems. I truly understood where Sky was coming from when it came to her feelings for her mother. Poor little Ty. I must say Nana and Granddaddy showed just how much they truly loved their grandkids. Ugh Nia! That chick needed to disappear all together. I loved the friendship between Sky and Rayne because their bond was genuine. I thought Sky was a little naive in the beginning. She was falling quickly for Aston but I felt he would do right after everything occurred. Just when things started going in the right direction Kia threw a wrench in everything. Aston is dumb as I don't know what. Allison needs a life and ish is definitely about to get real. Damn Sky!!! Through her storm she thought for sure she'd found her forever piece but my how quickly things change. Can't wait to get my hands on part 2 and see just how things unfold.
I must say this was a good read but I found myself forgetting that Sky and Rayne were only 16 yrs old. I mean they were cursing like sailors, smoking, and having sex. They were always left home alone. I remember one reference to an allowance for making good grades but these girls were shopping like it was no tomorrow, mani & pedi, hair was on point, make up on point (Mac)....several times I had to remember these kids weren't even out of high school. It was never mentioned how old the grandparents were but a new born baby and a teenager....finances must not have been an issue. On to part 2!!
In the Mist of my Storm I Found my Forever Piece (Or So I Thought..)
Read this book and find yourself thrilled with each and every character. Skyla is taken in by her grandparents, once her mom Nia becomes addicted to heavy drugs. Skyla is coming of age as a junior in high school. She is smart and definitely headed for college and a bright future despite her environment, while hanging with her bestie Rayne. Incidentally, she has a crush on Aston who is Rayne's brother. Whew!
