Untamable, sexy, and a complete rogue, Adrian Wilde more than lives up to his last name. The sports enthusiast loves any kind of adventure—especially with the opposite sex—and he’s determined never to let any woman change his bad boy image. It’s a feat he manages well, until Chayse Douglas asks him to pose for her charity "Outdoor Men" calendar. He agrees, but only if Chayse is willing to get those pictures at his cozy mountain cabin.

It promises to be one provocative weekend, especially when Adrian discovers that Chayse wants him to teach her the seductive pleasures only a bad boy can know…and as the nights turn very steamy, Adrian finds that sweet, sensual Chayse is the only woman who can tame his wild heart…

It’s hard for me to imagine that I’ve been writing romances for over twenty years now! I started at the young age of 21, just after I got married. Reading romances, and then writing them, came about as a result of having too much time on my hands. When I first married my husband Don, I was working a regular nine to five job and he worked swing shift, from four in the afternoon until midnight. It wasn’t an ideal schedule for newlyweds, and in order to pass those hours when I was alone I started reading romances, and eventually tried my hand at writing them.
The road to publication wasn’t an easy one. It took me five years and dozens of rejections to make my first sale, which was to Harlequin for their “Stolen Moments” line. THE FAMILY MAN, written under the pseudonym Danielle Kelly, was one of the twelve novellas published in 1993 for this promotional line.

It took me another two and a half years (and more rejections!) to sell my second book. HEAVEN’S GIFT (written under my own name) was published in October 1995 by Leisure Love Spell for their “An Angel’s Touch” series. Another two years passed of collecting even more rejections before I finally sold to Harlequin Romance and Harlequin Temptation. At the time, writing for both Temptation and Harlequin Romance provided me with a wonderful creative outlet for both my modern, ultra-sexy stories, and my warmer, traditional romances. But as the years passed, I realized how much I enjoyed writing the sexier stories and streamlined my career accordingly so that I was no longer writing the sweet traditional romances, and instead focused on the hotter, sexier stories for Temptation and Blaze.

After writing over two dozen books for Harlequin, I decided to branch out. I wanted to write anthologies and single titles, and came up with an idea about three sexy brothers with the last name of “Wilde”. Little did I know that those Wilde brothers would become such a sensation with readers. In the second Wilde book, WILDE THING, four Wilde cousins were introduced, and readers started writing in for their stories, too. It’s been a joy and pleasure to write each of the Wilde stories, and I want to thank everyone for purchasing those books and putting them on the USA Today Bestseller list!

I’ve been a full-time writer for years, which consists of being deep in deadlines, writing proposals (growling at the husband to fix a glitch in the computer so I can get back to work!), perusing contracts, line-edits (stressing over a scene that won’t work or characters that just won’t talk or cooperate with my plans for them!), galleys, art-fact sheets, promotion, and other publishing paperwork. Admittedly, I wouldn’t trade all the craziness in for pantyhose, rush hour traffic, and a nine-to-five job again. Writing is hard work, but I find the rewards are well worth the effort. Fan letters are one of those priceless rewards, and can keep me on a high for days! I’ve met the most wonderful people through my books, some of which I now consider good friends.

It’s been a really long time since I last read a Janelle Denison story, which also, as it happens, was the previous story in her Wilde series. I seem to recall there being quite a bit of similarity between the first three Wilde stories, which might partially account for me putting this author on the back burner for a while. Thankfully, The Wilde One was a little different than those three stories. While the heroine of this novella is still rather commitment-phobic, it’s for different reasons than those of the other heroines in the series thus far. And although the hero is a pretty hard-core alpha male, like his brothers from the previous stories, his personality and profession is quite different. So The Wilde One was definitely unique enough to hold my attention pretty well.

Chayse was introduced in the previous novella of the series, All She Want for Christmas. She’s a photographer who’s shooting a beefcake calender for charity and wants our hero, Adrian, to be one of her models. I had to admire Chayse’s determination. She’s apparently been pestering Adrian about it for months and continues to doggedly pursues him in this story. Since she knows he’d be perfect for the job and he can’t give her a compelling reason why he won’t do it, she can’t let it go, and her persistence is eventually rewarded. Chayse is pretty much all alone in the world and has a painful past that makes her wary of giving her heart to someone. Everyone she loved growing up left her in some way, so she keeps her relationships casual, not wanting to get too close and get hurt. With Adrian, everything is different. She finds herself opening up to him in ways she hasn’t with anyone else, but she’s still scared to let their affair go on any longer than the weekend. What I liked most about Chayse is that she understands Adrian and his “need for speed,” as well as accepts his physical imperfections without hesitation.

Adrian is a risk-taker. He’s an extreme sports enthusiast and owns an outdoor adventure company. Although he’s insanely attracted to Chayse, he’s been avoiding her as much as possible, and every time he sees her, he keeps turning down her proposal of him posing for her calender. His body has imperfections that her doesn’t think will translate well to photographs, not to mention, said imperfections are also tied to a painful past relationship that left him feeling completely betrayed. Ever since then, he’s had a hard time trusting women, and like Chayse, he also keeps his relationships casual. With Chayse, their chemistry is so intense, he can’t resist her, so when she shows up at his cabin, calling his bluff, it turns into a sexually explosive moment. Adrian is perhaps a tad too alpha for my taste. He’s pretty sexually aggressive during their first love scene, although he does feel badly about it afterward (not that Chayse was complaining ;-)), but then he does it again at the very end. I did, however, like Adrian’s intuitiveness in seeing behind the walls Chayse has erected around herself. He’s also the first one to admit that he’s falling for her, which was rather endearing, and he wouldn’t allow her to run away from him without a fight. If Adrian had been just a little softer and not quite so intense, and/or he’d had a profession that was a little more relatable to me, I could have seen this novella being a keeper for me.

Other than Adrian not quite being my favorite type of guy, The Wilde One was a very good read. The love scenes are quite steamy, and aside from the more intense ones that weren’t entirely my thing, they’re a lot of fun to read. I was also surprised by the amount of character development Janelle Denison was able to create in such a short space. Although a little longer format to explore their issues in more depth might have been nice, it was still quite good for a novella. Of course, they fall in love, get over their issues, and we even get a proposal at the very end, which happens all in the space of one three-day weekend, which is maybe a little quick. However, I was willing to give the author a pass on this, because Adrian and Chayse have at least known each other for several months, and she does develop their relationship in a believable way with a strong emotional connection. So overall, I enjoyed reading The Wilde One. Several of the other Wilde brothers and cousins appear in this novella. Adrian’s cousin, Scott, is up next in The Wilde Side. What I saw of him in this story and what little I remember of his appearances in the previous ones, I’ve liked what I’ve seen, so I look forward to continuing the series and reading his book. The Wilde One was originally published in the Bad Boys to Go anthology, but has since been republished as a stand-alone novella.

Chayse wants Adrian Wilde to pose for her “outdoorsy men” calendar. Being the operator of Wilde Adventures and a major outdoorsman, he’d be perfect for her charity project. But Adrian wants nothing to do with the calendar...unfortunately for him, he wants everything to do with Chayse. And her persistence keeps putting temptation in his way - especially when she shows up at his weekend cabin and says she’s not going til she gets what she wants. They both end up getting exactly what they want, but by the end of the wekeend, both Chayse and Adrian have developed “let’s have more of this” feelings. Adrian is cool to go with those, but Chayse is afraid and runs before they can confront their feelings.

Once this hit the 40% mark, this story was okay. Up to that point, I felt like Chayse needed to be smacked upside the head and reminded that ‘no means no.’ It most certainly doesn’t mean hound the person until they reveal all their secrets and insecurities about why they said no just because you’re curious. And it’s not like she was after him in any other way before that. She was pretty much shocked when Adrian turned things sexual, so her only reason was to nag this guy into doing what she wanted despite his clear answer “NO.” But once Adrian dropped his insecurities and the feelings started building between them, this got better and I was able to forget that Chayse had annoyed me. They had some great sexual chemistry together and there was still that little bit of angst with the whole fear of feelings thing. So overall pretty good.

The Wilde One is part of a series of the Wilde family members (brothers and cousins) and can be read as a standalone book. I actually bought this on Amazon as part of a four book series that doesn't seem to be in Goodreads.

Adrian is the traditional commitment phobic bachelor. Chayse is doing a photo shoot for an outdoorsman calendar. She has been bugging Adrian for months to be a model in it and he keeps denying her. Finally, he says he will model for her calendar if she will come to his cabin and have sex with him over the weekend. That shuts her down, which was his intent.

Surprising Adrian, when he reaches his cabin for vacation, Chayse is on the porch hammock, ready to follow through with his deal. There are plenty of sexy times, but also a lot of talking and getting to know things about each other that are a new side previously unseen. Fun and easy weekend read.

Chayse is stubborn, persistent, determined and provocative. She wants Adrian for her calendar and no isnt in her vocabulary. Adrian rebuffs her at every turn. His secret is not to be shared and giving in to Chayse would force him to reveal it. Tired of her relentlessness, Adrian corners her and issues a challenge. Spend the weekend with him and he'll do the calendar shoot. Chayse initially backs away but surprises him by showing up at the family cabin prepared to accept his challenge. What ensues is a hot, erotic, sensual weekend that stirs a lot of deep seated emotions. Chayse runs away but Adrian refuses to let her hide. He pursues and captures her. Giving her no option but to acknowledge her fellings for him too. Definitely an HEA if ever there was one!

Loved this story about Adrian Wilde and Chayse Douglas. I just wish it was a full length length novel so that I could see more of what happened after the proposal. This wonderful novella left me wanting there to be more to their story.

short sexy read

Short read that forms a really good storyline. The couple have known each other for a while within a family and friends circle. Both string characters and with pasts and secrets that eventually get shared.

This was just a yummy, yummy novella. Nice and steamy. Completely predictable and a whole lot of fun. Adrian and Chayse are a fun couple. I like that they're both damaged, but find a way to deal with their crap. I am reading this series a little out of whack, so some of the mentions of the established relationships were confusing. But it was still fun.

The photography angle and artistry provided me with a lot of entertainment. I love when Chayse shows Adrian her profile, like all art, the insights it gives into her character are phenomenal. I also love how her very passion is the very vessel through which she is able to accept her own flaws.

The Wilde One was a fun and easy read. One that I seriously enjoyed. I look forward to reading more romances in the Wilde family in the future...

This is the book about the final Wilde brother, Adrian. He meets Chayse Douglas who wants him to pose for her "Outdoor Men" calendar. She is determined and he finally gives in on one condition, she has to take the pictures at his cozy mountain cabin. She surprises him by turning up at the cabin and it turns into a very steamy weekend. After the weekend she disappears and he has to track her down.

This was a pretty good quick read. The characters were interesting and there was plenty of heat. My only complaint was I felt the ending was rushed, but I still enjoyed it.
