"Zander kissed Erin's mouth so softly, so gently, that her entire world seemed to balance on its edge, precariously wobbling, just begging to fall.
'Zander, I—'
'Shhh,' he murmured. 'I'm a trained professional.'"
There are many times I start a book just wanting to kill some time. Maybe there’s nothing on TV or there’s an extra long wait at the doctor’s office, whatever it is I scroll through Amazon or Goodreads and try to find something that catches my eye. When I picked up Want It that was the kind of mood I was in. I expected to like the book but didn’t think it would be anything overly exciting. A few chapters in I was beginning to rethink my assessment.
We can’t take back what happened, we can only deal with where we are now.
Zander and Erin have a history. Besides being the love of his life in high school, Erin is also the person that ruined any chance of Zander going to West Point. When Erin comes to Zander for advice he can’t decided if he wants to get back at her for the past or protect her from what’s to come in the future. Zander loves to make Erin uncomfortable. While he kept telling himself that she deserved everything he gave her, it was easy to see that Zander was confused. He used her obvious attraction to him to make her feel uncomfortable. But each time Zander thought he was screwing her out of his system, he only fell deeper.
“There you go, babe,” he breathed, noticing the way her pulse was pounding in her neck as he pressed his hands against the wall on either side of her head. “That’s what I’m talking about, that kind of response. Like you need me and I need you.”
Erin wavered between new and improved confident Erin and spiraling out of control Erin. Even though Zander is the only one who can help her, Erin doesn’t want to drag him into her mess. Erin continually struggles with the feeling that she has to pay Zander back or make up for the past. She couldn’t accept any sort of kindness without feeling like she had to pay it back or make it even. It was something that Zander caught on to right away, even if he didn’t understand how deep her problems ran.
“I didn’t come over here to trade information for a blowjob, either. Jesus, Erin”
If killing time by having sex with a hot soldier is standard procedure, then sign me up for ransom and a kidnapping any time. The heat between Erin and Zander was sizzling. I liked that the sex didn’t overshadow the story it was an important part in the way they dealt with their relationship as well as contributing to the plot. It was hot and unexpected without being over the top.
“Something you want, Erin?” he asked, and he leaned down close, his body shifting again to lie against hers, the heaviness of his erection hard and insistent in the vee of her thighs. “Because there’s something I want. Something I’ve been wanting for a really long time.”
This book was an unexpected gem. I didn’t have any expectations when I started reading Want It, but the characters quickly changed my mind. Soon, instead of reading because I had nothing better to do I found myself rushing to finish projects just so I could get back to their story. I love Zander and Erin, both had faults but they were real and lovable. There is no way I will be able to forget this story. It was a fantastic book and I’m excited to delve into another of Chance’s books as soon as possible.
