Haven's crew found Jordan Grant half-dead floating at sea. With a six-year hole in his memory, he remembers nothing of the Incident or the Lurchers who have claimed the land as their own. He joins the crew in their daily struggle to survive in a harsh new world where every meal is live or die.
But when a shipwreck forces them from the safety of the sea, the crew soon discover their pursuers aren’t the only monsters out to get them. As Jordan confronts the horror of his past he unlocks a secret that threatens to destroy not only him but the future of the entire human race.

I have read a few zombie horror books and the vast majority of them seem to have the same repetitive theme. However, this book really has a fresh and unique idea. Not only is it well written but it had me guessing as to what was going to happen next to Jordan and his group of survivors. I normally take my time reading a book but I was so engrossed with this one that I ended up finishing it in just two days. I would highly recommend this book, it definitely does not disappoint.
I just love zombie books, but the problem is they are mostly the same. Perrin Briar adds his own unique spin on things with no shortage of blood and gore.
The "haven" crew , a mismatched band of survivors living aboard a ship find Jordan Grant floating half dead in the ocean. After nursing him back to health Annie a former psychiatrist learns he is missing the last 6 years of his memory. The only thing they know is that he was in the army because of the dogtags around his neck. After running into trouble the crew finds themselves needing a new boat. thats where everything could go wrong.
This book is an action packed post apocalyptic novel, with no shortage of zombies. I can't wait to read the next book. You can download it for free at Perrin Briar's website http://www.perrinbriar.com/product/bl... . happy reading.
In this book so much crazy is going on it’s hard to list it all, but it was really great like all the rest and we got to learn a bit more about the zombies and Jordan’s missing history.
WHAT if these zombies had a collective conscience? A bit scary? A well written story, action packed, fast paced. Not to graphic for the week stomach's.. But characters you love, and cry when they don't make it.....it's realistic folks
The saga continues. The question remains, who will win, man or his enter demons? The zombies, who has a leader with whom they have a psychic connection, continue to try take out the remaining "humans". I'm truly enjoying this story. On to book five.
This is a bit different than your normal zombie stories. The zombies in this book are called Lurchers and the way they act and behave is not normal. In this box set you get books 1-5 in season one so as soon as you finish one episode you can move on to the next without missing a beat. So I am going to do a review of each episode I figured that might be a bit easier. Now I will go back and leave a more detailed review on each episode on other sites.
So in episode one we are introduced to the characters aboard Haven. This is where we also meet Jordan who was floating in the sea when the crew pick him up. It seems Jordan has a past that he can not remember. As we continue reading we see that the crew is pretty much like a tight knit family over the course of I guess days or weeks they find themselves scavenging for supplies on a ship which leads to a OMG what is going to happen next. When we see the outcome of this, then a storm hits and it seems to be a very powerful storm and we leave off wondering who has survived and who was lost at sea. The only thing here is we never know what has caused the world to end and be left with zombies. In Episode two we pick up right where episode one leaves off, we learn who has survived and we see Jordan burying a body which a first I was like who is it as it never said who the person was until a few pages later on. We meet our first Lurcher on land and he wasn't really all the scary to me. A member of their crew dies in a very tragic way which has Jessie go into shock and they all know they need to get back to sea. It is the best place to be though to get there they need a boat. This means they have to go through Terry who is ruthless and horrible. He runs a business but not in a good way drug and sex trade the whole nine yards. When it comes to meeting Terry and getting what they need we end up getting some action in this episode and that is where we leave off. Episode three now that they are back at sea of course they still need supplies so this becomes a supply run but this run ends up being a whole lot more trouble than it is worth. Anna, Jessie, Stan and Jordan end up meeting a group of soldiers that end up helping them out so they can survive and leave to be on sea. Though now it seems Jordan's past is slowly coming to light he still dreams of a woman and child and has no clue what it means. This is where we learn about someone called "Queenie" and why the Lurchers may be acting a whole lot more different than normal. It does seem to be a bit more dangerous to live on land than on sea but it seems that the lurchers have different plans for this group of survivors. Episode four we still don't know the cause of the outbreak but the book is still good. There is plenty of action happening even though there is a lot of running around. In this episode they come across plenty of crazy folks but of course that is meant to happen when the end of the world comes about. They lose yet another member of their group but we see Jessie come over her shock that has had her held captive. We also end up learning what a blood memory is and why the lurchers seem to be under control. Episode five the last book in this season. A lot of fighting in this one Jordan finally remembers his past and knows why the head honcho lurcher wants him after tasting his blood. Anna and Jessie make it to the compound where the soldiers are at and all hell breaks loose. It literally is a fight of survival but we all know eventually the lurchers can't win or can they? We get to see Anna and Jessie really step up and take a fighting stance on these zombies. There is a character from their past that will come back but of course he doesn't get very far on his mission to destroy.
Overall a good zombie book very different in some aspects of the zombie world. The characters that were still standing felt strong though I still would have liked to have known how they all came together minus Jordan. We learn his backstory. I would have liked to have known more about each character. Also how did the outbreak happen? You know in this type of world you want to have some type of answers. There is plenty of action though out the book the lurchers at first do not seem scary or gory but as you read on you get the image of pus, limbs severed and what not which I thought was cool. Also when one of the character's dies so quickly it was kind of weird being as how did no one know this one character wasn't sick? I would think symptoms of some sort would have been noticed and mentioned. What is up with the mention of "sight" it felt kind of thrown in there in a way, being as it just came out of no where. I do wonder if Anna, Jessie and Jordan will ever be a piece or forever running.
This book has an interesting and controversial scientific twist on zombie development which resulted in my first ever emotional connection with the zombies. This story has the classic but realistic action that has readers exclaiming, “WTF”, “Kill him! Kill him!” and “No please tell me you’re not that stupid” but of course most everyone has that moment when they can’t believe they did something that stupid at least once in their lives. Great continuity, well developed characters with subplots that enriches the tale and emotionally connects the reader to the supporting characters. A must for me! Realistic character elimination that has the reader sighing in loss. *Possible SPOILER ALERT* On the negative side I think the self-proclaimed dictator resolution could have been developed further or carried over to the 1st episode of season two leaving this reader feeling it was rushed and an afterthought. However the end of the season ties everything together nicely while leaving this reader wanting more. Overall an excellent and entertaining story.
Yes, another zombie book, but wait; it's different. The people in the story are fighting for their survival while hiding from the Lurchers by staying on a boat. So even if it is another of these books, it's still gives a different perspective. And for those who love to read about zombie fights, you'll get that too don't worry.
The story is refreshing. You won't guess what's coming. It's well written and engrossing. More than once, I found myself worrying for the little group. Blood Memory is the first of a series. Although it has a cliffhanger, it's not something that will drive you mad. I didn't throw my iPad on the wall because of it. Yet, be warned; there is no closure.
I wished the author would publish on Amazon and/or Smashwords though. The book deserves more exposure. You still can get a free copy of it on the author's website. http://kenlambauthor.com/product/bloo...
I've read a lot of zombie books, all the same, this one is different. That's what makes this book better than the rest. What I liked the most was that they were on a boat.
I must say there were parts in the book that I did not like, especially the parts when woman were abused , the man 'Terry' used them for sexslaves, I got so angry. I skipped a view pages.
The part where they found a camp and the woman were used again for childbirth, and the man only for sex and the seed. I hated those parts and thought (only a man could have written this). Sorry ...
But I suppose it's part of the book.
But I would love to read season 2, I'm curious how it goes further. So I will buy season 2.
I give 4 stars, but I say it again, there are parts in the book witch I don't like, those parts are 3 stars, but because I like the story behind it I'll give the book 4 stars.
This book was drawn to my attention by one of Perrin's fans/friends on the basis of other things I had read. To be honest the book cited as similar was not (Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry). It seems this is a common approach, which looking at other reviews isn't always welcomed. To be honest I really don't mind - I always like to find a 'new' author and I'm quite happy to review honestly regardless of what brought me to the book.
So - decent enough zombie apocalypse story with a few original ESP elements. The epidisodic nature of the original release (I assume because of Amazon's payment policy) means that it is a very quick read. By this point in the literary cycle (zombies everywhere!) any zombie book is going to have a few cliches, but this is well enough done to hold the attention and provides enjoyment along the way. Well worth a read.
Downloaded Book One for free from the author's website, figuring no huge loss if it totally sucked. But it didn't.
Entertaining, fast-paced, a sort of never-lets-you-up-for-air kind of story. I've lost count of the post-apocalyptic/zombie books I've read and this one held my interest. The story raised enough questions about the characters and how the hell this all happened in the first place that I will probably now read book two.
Will I brood over the story for days or weeks, contemplating themes, symbols, or the meaning of life? No. But that's not really why I pick up a zombie book. Would I recommend it to someone who enjoys post-apocalyptic stories, doesn't mind a little gore, and doesn't need everything to perfectly represent reality? Yep.
Though I have been looking for books with a diverse cast of characters, people of different race working together to survive, help and have each others backs, mainly in sci-fi and fantasy, and some mystery, well not romance, lets be real, we all know diverse/interracial romance books are just written porn, this isn't about romance, anyway, when someone recommended this book to me, I decided to give it a shot and I am not disappointed. I would like to thank that person.
I will give a more complete review after I have read the rest of the five seasons. So far very good.)
Now here's a book that's a bit of a different take on the zombie genre. It has every Hollywood cliched moment with corny jokes, gruesome scenes, sad moments, brief spurts of happy times only to be followed by endless fighting, running, more fighting and more running. The book starts up kind of slow but the story eventually reveals itself like peeling back layers of an onion. Really nicely written. I recommend this book, if you're into the zombie genre and like fast-paced action with snarky moments here and there.
'Blood Memory' is one of the best series I've read. I'm not a big zombie apocalypse reader, but once I started this series, I couldn't stop. I literally did not put my reader down. I loved the uniqueness Perrin Briar brought into this series. The characters were great and I found myself sad when one didn't make it. Full of action, intense scenes, suspense and an awesome plot. A great add to your tbr list. Definitely recommended.
Great story. The characters are engaging, kept me interested to the end. The zombies are different from most other zombie apocalypse stories.. definitely plan on getting the next book in the series.
Great story; engaging characters kept me interested till the end. Not like a lot of other z a stories. Definitely going to get the next book in the series.
Nope nope nope. I thought this series had promise if the typos and overuse of names instead of pronouns from the first episode were improved. Then I read more. Why was the magical prophecy needed? That was the first time I started scoffing at the story Then the ridiculous telepathy and stilted zombie talk. No thank you.
This is my second time reading this awesome book! I gave it five stars because if I read the same book twice and probably a couple more times I think that it deserves a five star rating. Can't wait to read the rest of the series, I can hardly put the kindle down!!! So on to the next book!!!!!
