Here's what the reviewers are say about First Job ~ First "Parents, this one is for the kids" Central Florida Future - university newspaper; "Lehman's book aims to save students from the often repeated myths about money, jobs and living in the paycheck-to-paycheck trap" - Rebekah Kubik, Contributing Writer, Central Florida Future - - First Job ~ First Paycheck is a book for college juniors and seniors, and recent graduates. It gives ideas on how to get that all-important first job, how to get the most out of that first job, and how to handle money and the responsibilities that come with that first paycheck. The book is written by award winning author Jeff Lehman. He has guest lectured to thousands of college students and mentored hundreds more. Over 25 college students and graduates from major universities pre-read the book and gave it an overwhelming "must have" thumbs-up.
This was recommended to me by a career adviser, but I was a bit disappointed with the material. Most of the book is spent convincing apparently clueless college students that continuing to do the same dumb stuff they did in college is not going to help them financially. While that's true, I was hoping for some more concrete information about what I should be doing, not what I shouldn't. The most informative part of the entire book was the appendix on how index funds work. There are better resources to learn about how to make intelligent financial decisions while you're young. That said, this book has real value if you know you need to quit some of your knuckleheaded college-student behavior, but need a good reason for it.
