Meadow

Becoming a teen mom was never part of the plan, but I wouldn’t change my life if I could. Over the years, I moved around like a dandelion in the breeze, following the best opportunities for myself and my daughter.

My sense of home has been missing since the day I left the commune to head off to college, but all that changed when I moved to Sparrow Falls.

Helping my best friends open up our dream tattoo shop and providing support for my daughter was all I had ever dreamed of.

At least, that’s what I thought until a hot night with a stranger in a bar sent my world spinning with two pink lines.

Colt

Forgoing my future as a biomedical engineer to become a guidance counselor was one of the best decisions of my life. Having the opportunity to guide teenagers to find their passion was the right path for me.

After living away from my family for years due to my job, I’m finally ready to find my way closer to home, and Sparrow Falls is just the place.

I know I’m where I’m meant to be when I’m introduced to one of the most brilliant students I’ve ever met, who desperately needs my guidance.

Little do I know her mother is the woman who captivated me the moment we met, and that I would be the one needing the Sterling girls as if they are the air I breathe.

Hi, I'm Jay Fields and I'm a reader turned writer. I've always loved books, but about 5 years ago I read my first romance book and I've been hooked ever since.

I live in a small town with my husband, three kiddos, and two fur babies. I work full time, so my world is a constant state of organized chaos!

So far, I write small town romance novels and I absolutely love them. Creating a fictional world full of people who genuinely care for each other hits me in me right in my feels.

I love a good side character, so be prepared to not only fall in love with the main characters, but enjoy meeting everyone who makes them who they are!

I hope you love my first book and stick around on this wild journey with me!

Xo,

Jay

I absolutely love Jay Fields' writing style & the way that she writes small town romances! I fear that I won't recover from how seamlessly Colt fit into Meadow & River's lives. He related to River so perfectly that their scenes together were some of my favorites in the book. Watching their relationship develop throughout the book was so beautiful & especially when he was able to be there for her as her guidance counselor separately from being a step-parent. And the way that he was 100% in with Meadow from the very beginning was incredible! I couldn't stop giggling when he tried to get Meadow's number after their bar bathroom rendezvous and she left it up to fate instead. Colt is the literal definition of if he wanted to, he WOULD.

Once Upon A Baby was such a fantastic read. I have loved Meadow and River since the beginning of the series. They remind me of me and my daughter. Colton was such a swoony book boyfriend (even Wren and Daphne thought so).
The way colt stepped up and loved his girls from the beginning was so heartfelt. I loved how all the family members were loud and crazy and for along so well. I hope River gets her book next!

4⭐️-What a short and sweet unexpected love story! I always find myself fascinated that I love surprise pregnancy. I’m waiting for the day I read one that doesn’t hit, but today IS NOT that day. I loved the characters and their various personalities. The found family aspect was written to perfection!

Colt and Meadow’s relationship was very sweet. The way he offered his support and involvement from day one….”he’s a good man, Savannah!” I love him. However, the love that all the adults had for River was the shiny penny in this story for me. What a lucky girl! To be wise beyond your 14 years, but have adults that treat you with respect AND remind you it’s okay to still be a kid at times. I loved them all so much for how they just poured love, confidence, reassurance, etc into her. I loved the way Colt treated her from day one. The way he wanted her involved at every turn 🥹 CUTIES! I loved the lessons her mom instilled in her about being a good person. The treatment of River was really special and definitely stood out to me.

I will say, there was no conflict which is why I’m giving this 4⭐️. Even in the end, we have a scary moment, but everything just kind of works out. Colt missed the birth of his daughter and there wasn’t a mention about it. I’m usually not one to harp for more words, but it may have been helpful here. Not having any disagreement between practically strangers joining their lives together and having a baby, it truly is the stuff fairytales are written about, so if that is what you’re looking for, this book is for you!

Love, Love, Love Once Upon A Baby! Meadow and Colt had a captivating connection and a one night stand. Colt is the new high school guidance counselor to Meadow teenage daughter. Highly recommended this delightful contemporary romance with it’s chaotic, hilarious, and ultimately heartwarming journey of accidental parenthood. Not Once, But Twice!

ARC Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m one of the few readers who truly enjoy a well-written accidental pregnancy trope. There’s something so heartwarming about watching two strangers fall in love over the life they’ve unexpectedly created together. Once Upon A Baby by Jay Fields delivers on that premise, but while I enjoyed the story, I did feel that certain aspects of it felt a bit rushed.

Meadow and Colt go from strangers to married with a baby in just about a year, which left me wishing the story had slowed down a bit to explore their evolving relationship more deeply. That said, Meadow was an incredibly likable character. Her free-spirited, hippie vibes and her career as a tattoo artist made her stand out. I especially wish the book had gone more in-depth about the commune she grew up on, as it seemed like such an interesting part of her past. Regardless, she was a wonderful mother to River, and her love for her daughter shone through beautifully.

The way Meadow and Colt reconnect was an interesting twist—after their one-night stand, Meadow leaves it up to fate, giving Colt no way to contact her. Fast forward to the start of River’s senior year, and Colt is shocked to learn that Meadow is River’s mother. While I found Colt to be incredibly sweet, he did feel a little too forward at times. His immediate dive into playing dad to River and pursuing a relationship with Meadow after just one night together felt a bit unrealistic.

That being said, I did love how genuinely kind and thoughtful he was. Little gestures he did for Meadow and River, were adorable and made him an endearing character despite his intensity.

River, Meadow’s 15-year-old daughter, was another highlight. As a genius, she brought a unique dynamic to the story, and I appreciated the bond she formed with Colt as they realized they had similar childhood experiences.

Overall, Once Upon A Baby is a sweet and heartfelt story with a lot to love. Though the pacing felt a bit rushed and Colt’s approach to their relationship was a bit intense, the characters themselves were charming, and the emotional depth of their journey kept me engaged. If you enjoy the accidental pregnancy trope with a strong focus on family and fate, this one is worth checking out!

I’ve been looking forward to Meadow’s story from the beginning of the series, I thought I might have hyped it up in my mind so much that the actuality of the story would be anti climactic. But boy was I wrong!!!! This story lived up to my expectations and hopes and so much more!!!

Jay Fields knocked it out of the park, heck the stratosphere with this beautiful and heartwarming story. Colton and Meadow are absolutely perfect for each other. They are each exactly what the other deserves.

I love all the past characters having such a large roll within the story and River and Ada are fundamental, in my opinion, to the all round perfection of the journey they all take together.

The depth and emotions that swirl effortlessly from the pages pull you in with minimum effort. Welcoming you with open arms and holding you a willing captive as you walk side by side with old and new friends, watching life unfold in the most memorable way.

I adored Colton!! He’s the perfect cinnamon roll hero. The epitome of what every woman secretly needs to complete her life. His caring and open nature knows no bounds, his empathy and understanding so heartachingly beautiful to witness it leaves you breathless.

I love his relationship with his family. Their bonds are strong and true and I think they bring an added depth to the story that compliments the heartfelt
emotions already in play. Ada is another beautiful supporting character. I love her vibrant personality. I think it’s so wonderful how Jay Fields has portrayed the close friendship between both Colton and Ada. It’s so refreshing and beautifully written.

Meadow is a character I have always loved. Her relationship with her daughter River reminds me of a series I adore called Gilmore Girls. Their bond true and deep. They’re friends as well as mother and daughter and as I have that same relationship with my daughter I think it’s portrayed beautifully.

I love the bond she has with Daphne and Wren. Sisters of the heart. Their love and acceptance of each other is what we all search for in a true friend. I’m not ashamed to say I’m jealous of their friendship and lifelong bond.

Watching Meadow and Colton’s journey was a true honour. Never have two people been more perfectly suited.

I know I’m repeating myself but this really is such a beautiful and heartwarming story. These character will walk straight into your heart and take up permanent residence.

Utterly unforgettable.

If you can’t tell I wholeheartedly recommend this phenomenal read.

There truly are not enough stars to fully portray how special and beautiful this story is

Just as great as I expected! I've been looking forward to Meadow's story, but I think I was maybe even more excited to see more of River too. I loved getting to have a better look at just how smart River is and her and Brantley - so freaking sweet! I love that the story is so focused on her schooling and next steps as much as Meadow's next steps with the baby. They really are a duo and I love how they are written in this. They give a Lorelai/Rory vibe without being too similar.

I love supporting characters and we get the usual cast of Sparrow Falls characters here, but a bit less of the Wilson sisters in this one compared to Once Upon a Tattoo I'd say. Lots of Wren and Daphne though. We see some new faces like Colt's family. And Colt's neighbour Ada is the neighbour I didn't realize I needed. What a little spunky badass character she is!

As for the main characters, Colt and Meadow have an instant connection and they are both just so cute with how into each other they are. They do not lack chemistry or spice!

I can't wait to see what's next for Sparrow Falls. Would love to see if River and Brantley get a story down the road!

Surprise baby isn’t usually a trope I read but I couldn’t pass up a Jay book! I’ll read anything this woman writes and it was totally worth it!

Meadow is a single mom of a teenager trying to start over when she has a one night stand at a bar. When her friend is now her daughter’s counselor she knows she will have to be around him, especially when she finds out she’s pregnant.

I really enjoyed this book! I mean, what’s not to like about an amazing FMC who’s a tattoo artist?! 😍

Giving this book an immediate five stars for being the most perfect, wholesome escape from our current reality.

Meadow and Colt were adorable together. He was perfect for her from the beginning and then you add in how fast he fell for River too had me swooning.

I loved the entire round family aspect throughout this series and it’s what keeps me coming back for more each time. There’s teasing and banter but you know they’re all ride or die for each other too.

I’ll be intrigued to see what’s next! Maybe Lark’s story??

Colt and Meadow's HEA seemed to happened early in the story so it was nice to read a Hallmark type spicy story. As always the strong female characters of this series are sweet and fun. I really loved the mother/daughter relationship story as well. The brunch scene where River calls her mom out to test her hypothesis is awesome. I loved it. (IKYKY)

"It's like Meadow has this pull over me that draws me in. It's been like that since I first laid eyes on her. And for a man as logical and analytical as me, it's such an intoxicating feeling."

Once again I was blessed enough to get a very early copy of this from Ms. Fields and I have to say she really and truly pulls at the heartstrings with this one but in a good way. The entire time I was reading this my heart was just so dang happy. Everything about Meadow, Colton, and River is absolutely PERFECT! This is one of those stories that just flows so easily and is drama free.

Meadow is hands down the coolest single mom character I have ever read and River, I just adore that girl. Meadow’s free spirit is so refreshing and when she meets Colton and tells him she will not give him her phone number but wait and see if fate brings them back together I knew I was in for a treat with their story.

Colton is the perfect match for Meadow, I would say the exact opposite of her other than his heart is just as equally huge. Then there is the relationship he forms with River before he even knows Meadow is her mom. Those two women are what he was missing in his life. He is an all in type of fella and treats River like she matters to him, because she does. He is the father she never had and he doesn't hesitate for a single second at loving her like she is his own.

We see all the characters of past Sparrow Falls stories and it is always so fun catching up with them. Jay is always so good about keeping them in the mix. I loved getting to see more of River and her growing into her own as a teenager. Then there is where her story ends up going, I was so happy for her. I don't know what Ms. Fields plans to bring readers next but I am definitely going to be here for it.

Colt and Meadow

Oh my heart!! If you are looking for a sweet, somewhat steamy and low angst kinda book, then you need to read this!
I knew Meadow's book was going to be good and Jay did not disappoint me. I've loved all the other books in this series but I think this one was my favorite.
Meadow has the hippie vibe. She's a talented tattoo artist and a kick a$$ mom to her daughter, River.
Colt is a guidance counselor at the local high school. He bonds with a sweet and shy girl named, River because they are both super smart. She's 14 and a senior in high school. He has such a big heart and not only does he fall in love with Meadow but he truly sees River as a daughter.
I teared up then would turn around and laugh out loud because of the banter between friends and family.
There was a part where it talked about Meadow and River taking on any problems together cause they are that close, and that reminded me of my mom and me. I was raised by a single parent too so this story really touched my heart.
Thank You Jay for another refreshing story.

I’m always happy to return to Sparrow Falls and was happy for the next instalment in the series!

Meadow and Colton meet one night, have a steamy moment together and Meadow leaves Colt with a smile and the parting words of “if the universe wants us to be together, it will bring us back to each other”.

Well, the universe must have really wanted them to be together as they find themselves brought back to each other when Colt is Meadow’s daughter, River’s new guidance councillor. River and Colt bond before he knows that Meadow is her mother since he is kinda a genius and was advanced in school like River is.

When Meadow and Colton finally see each other again, they both know it was just how it was always meant to be. Especially when Meadow finds out she is expecting. Colton is excited and all in. He is crazy supportive and sensitive to both Meadow and River’s needs. He knows he wants them forever and even though it may seem fast, they fall for each other quickly and easily.

There is no third act break up, but still a few things the work through and a surprise twist in the plot that I didn’t expect, but was so right for the story.

I loved how supportive and thoughtful they were and how Colt loved River just as much as Meadow and thought of her as his own. The friend group made plant of appearances which is always great to see them again and they loved Colt and he became a part of the “family“ effortlessly. They get their HEA and it was a pleasure to read all in one sitting.

I love this series and Jay’s writing style. I will read anything that she writes and hope to see more of Sparrow Falls in the future!

Surprise baby, found family, and the best baby daddy

Once Upon A Baby by Jay Fields is one of those swoon-worthy surprise pregnancy books. Colton is all in from the get-go and while Meadow is fiercely independent, she’s totally on board with Colton’s form of support.
I enjoyed this book for the wonderful set of characters that weave in and out of Meadow and Colton’s story. Not to mention Meadow’s teenage daughter, a sweetheart genius who approaches all things in a no nonsense manner, but with the underlying innocence of youth. She may be smart, but she’s still a kid and Meadow encourages that whole heartedly.
Meadow’s friends, her found family, are the ultimate support, rallying around her and River. Colton’s family is the same, giving this new little family all the love and support they could ever need.
While their beginning is left to fate, things evolve quickly once Colton comes back into Meadow’s life and the timing couldn’t be more perfect. Yet not all is perfection for them. There are some bumps in the road and a bit of harrowing suspense as well.
Overall, this love story is sweet and sexy while full of heart. Colton is the perfect swoony boyfriend/baby daddy who sweeps Meadow off her feet and becomes the father-figure River needs. The family of two blends almost seamlessly into three and finally four when the new bundle of joy arrives. It’s a wonderful HEA you don’t want to miss.

When A One Night Stand Turns into Much Much More!

The attraction between Meadow and Colton was instant, but no one thought it would go any further than one night . . . boy were they wrong!

I loved this visit back into Sparrow Falls. We got to see previous characters, fall in love with a couple of new ones while watching the love group between this couple. I loved how Colton took to loving a woman with a child and how protective he was with River. This was a sweet read that had me all up in my feels!

i never want this series to end LOL. i am so attached to these characters, their stories, their lives & just everything about them. i love how this is the perfect way to represent opposites attract. we have the nerdy, super smart, tech loving guy and the laid back, super chill, smart but doesn’t like to show it, tattoo artist chick that fit so well together. even though the title is quite literally called “once upon a baby” i was still so shocked & giddy when Meadow took the pregnancy test! the way the story is done is a great way to show how fate will truly bring you to the person you’re meant with. i also just adore River & i am very excited to see what’s in the future for her, hopefully we get to read more about her. the last 15% of the book had me literally on the edge of my seat and my eyes glued to my kindle. not at all what i was expecting but wow it was definitely a rollercoaster! you truly do feel like you’re right there in the lives of these characters. the writing is so real to how people actually are, their personalities jump out of the pages and i was smiling most of the time i was reading it.

Once Upon a Baby by Jay Fields is a heartwarming story that explores love, family, and self-discovery. Meadow, a teen mom who has found stability in Sparrow Falls, where she helps open a tattoo shop with her found family builds a life for herself and her daughter River. But after a passionate night with a stranger, she’s unexpectedly pregnant, throwing her world into chaos. Colt, a guidance counselor who’s returning to his hometown, is drawn to Meadow and becomes involved in her daughter's life, sparking an undeniable connection between him and Meadow but also his own connection with her daughter.

This story beautifully blends romance with emotional growth, as Meadow learns to trust herself and Colt, while navigating the challenges of parenthood and relationships. Set in the charming town of Sparrow Falls, the book offers a cozy, heartfelt read that balances humor, tenderness, and real-life struggles.

Meadow and Colton

FMC: Meadow Sterling, single mom to River (14)
MMC: Colton Harding, school counselor
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Pages: 224
Tropes: Single Mom, Small Town Romance, Surprise Pregnancy, One Night Stand, Instalove
Setting: Sparrow Falls, Pennsylvania (?)

Thoughts: This was a quick read for me. It was pretty low angst and lighthearted. I did find it a little over the top in some parts, but it would be good for someone looking for what romance would be like in a perfect world.

Meadow and Colton were a great match. They were both smart and driven and unintentionally looking for their person. Their one night stand happened quickly and it seemed like it took forever for their worlds to collide. I liked how River played such a big role in their story. There were definitely times where I felt like it was too easy and I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. While the 3rd act conflict did bring a little tension, it was also resolved with little angst and an easygoing resolution.

Overall this was a good read. I’ve enjoyed the Sparrow Falls world and am still crossing my fingers to get a few side characters promoted to main characters.

4.5 stars!

Once Upon a Baby is what happens when small-town charm meets instant chemistry and a hero who takes one look at responsibility and says, “Yep, I’m in.” It’s sweet, swoony, and so wholesome it might actually lower your stress levels.

The relationships in this book? Chef’s kiss. The romance is adorable, the found-family vibes are strong, and the side characters are the kind of people you wish were your neighbors. Sparrow Falls is basically a Hallmark movie town, but with better banter and way more personality.

If you love your love stories low on drama but high on heart, this book is your next perfect read. Side effects may include an intense craving for a small-town boyfriend and an emotionally available man.

Book three of Once Upon -- Once Upon a Baby. While I read book one, WILL read book two, and read book three, I believe any can be stand-alones.

Once Upon a Baby goes through Meadow's story of how she, as someone extremely intelligent, becomes a single mom at a young age. She is the epitome of a badass mother who raises her daughter without anything holding either of them back. Her daughter is a sure-fire genius who is accepted into MIT at only 14!!

Summer camp provides Meadow a few weeks to let loose. Letting loose leads her to fate ... or Colt. ;) Colt was only a means to escape for the night, or so Meadows thought. It's when those two unexpected pink lines and a new school year begin that Colt and Meadow find their way back to one another. Only it isn't for another night, it's for life.

Colt finds the love and relationships he never knew he needed through Meadow and her daughter. And Meadow finds the family she never thought they needed. It's a serendipitous kind of love story that left me swooning.

It’s an insta love type story with accidental pregnancy!

They meet at a local dining/bar establishment. She leaves him and says “if things are meant to be, we’ll meet again”. And they do! It was perfect. Spicy. Not much conflict but big events happen.

This was my first Jay Fields book and I’ll have to all all their works to my never ending tbr! The story was easy to follow if you love never read any of the other books!
