I am Arabic so I knew some of the words but not all. So when I took it home I let my parents read it to me. They loved it because it is in Arabic. They taught me all the words I did not know. They sounded out all the words with me. We then read it as a family. Then I had to read it by myself. It was hard but I tried. When I go to class I will read it again, and this time I will get it all right. It will not be like last time when I did not know half the book. I am the only Arabic boy in my whole classk, so I am the only one who knows how to read it in my language. I only knew some of it but not all. I skipped some pages.
I'm trying to encourage bilingualism in my classroom. I'm gradually trying to expand my library of bilingual books. Any suggestions? The languages represented in my classroom are currently Spanish, Albanian, Vietnamese, Arabic, and Chinese.
This 24-pager gem is loaded with photos of kids all over the world with smiling faces, the best kids in any language. My favorite photo is the girl from Mali with the shy smile. It's BEAUTIFUL!!!
