I really loved this one.

Funnily enough, I didn't really care for the case, yes it was interesting enough, but I wasn't like invested in it, nor did I care who the killer was in the end, though it was a twist.

Now I loved the book because the world is so nicely done, I love the details, the food, the side characters, the little stories like with Barbara at the market with all those tidbits. Stuff like that, to me makes a story rich, you connect more, Eva, I feel does it in a way that it's not too much. Because of course there can be too much, and it makes it hard to follow along, but Eva does it in a way where it's just right.

Like I love the side characters, I love Jason and Victoria and Grams, I worry anytime danger so much as whiffs near them. I love Marze and Eastman and Brandy- even Hagan, but just a little. AND HANNAH!! I'm so excited she's sticking around, and we got to hear from Darcy.

Oh, and Ethan, my my Ethan. I swear the whole chapter at his farm melted my heart, like yessss I am sensing the brewery of romance (hopefully?) and Sheppard was a sweetheart and ahhh I can't wait till Victoria and Jason find out and can tease her..
I need me a husband and nice bit of land is that too much to ask?

Now, onto more shady topics, Sadie. ohh the journal bit- oh I just knew something was up and the Hermes gift, yeah, I ain't trusting that I hope Victoria doesn't wear it because I might be paranoid but there ain't no way it's a normal gift...

and that ending.... I KNEW SOMETHING WITH HIM WAS BOUND TO HAPPEN. I need the next book asap, like now but I gotta wait...*sigh*

Had to push to read this - read on KU

I read about a book a day and rarely DNF. I've mostly enjoyed this author, but this book was tedious. I'm bored of her relationship with her grandmother. Really bored with that. I'm bored with her relationship with her partner's wife. I want to read the mystery. Yes, the MC needs depth, but these things didn't add that at this point.

On top of that, this wasn't exactly original. Although it wasn't immediately obvious exactly who the killer was, you knew what the twist was going to be. It was written so that you would.

I also detest it when the lead detective is female and gets captured by the bad guy.

If the next one doesn't have better pacing, I may drop this series and possibly the author.

Best one yet

Each book I’ve read has gotten better - not that they were bad to begin with - and I really enjoyed this one. I did figure out part of the solution but missed the final perpetrator. Worth the read definitely. This series is better than the Darcy series, in my opinion, due to the protagonist. Allie seems more sympathetic to me but I have read the Darcy books, too.

A Broken Mind is the fifth book in the Allie Bishop FBI Mystery Thrillers by Eva Sparks - and again, with this series I was plunged into a gripping blend of psychological suspense, high-stakes investigation, and emotional undercurrents.
Across the series, we follow Allie Bishop, a sharp, determined FBI agent whose intelligence is matched only by her resilience. Each book delivers a self-contained mystery whilst weaving in an overarching storyline that deepens Allie’s personal journey.
Ms. Sparks excels at layering clues, along with a few red herrings, ensuring that the final reveals are both surprising and satisfying.
The cases are dark and often chilling, but the human connections - between Allie and her colleagues, her adversaries, and even herself - gives the stories heart. The writing is vivid, making it easy to visualize the action, yet still intimate enough to pull you into Allie’s inner world.
This is perfect for fans of fast-paced thrillers who also appreciate character-driven storytelling.
Happy Reading…

Intriguing

I guessed what was going on with the killer about halfway through the book although I didn’t know who the killer was until the last few chapters. The ending made me think of a very specific movie - which I won’t name since it would give things away - that I cried at when it ended because I was relieved it was over. Total mind bender because the hypothetical antagonist was based on scientifically possible conditions and scenarios. Same with this book. It is entirely possible. I know I’m being cryptic but if you read the big you’ll understand why. And just know that it’s one of those books where it doesn’t become clear gradually but rather all at once at the end. Up until the last few chapters you are left still wondering what the correlation is between all the victims and wondering who the heck is doing this which is the author’s goal I’m sure. Have fun reading! Love Eva Sparks! I’m ready for the next book.

3.5 Stars rounded up. This wasn't my favorite mystery but the twist at the end though I suspected it was executed differently than I imagined and while the most glaringly obvious plot holes were covered I almost wanted to go back and reread it because it seemed like some of it wouldn't have fit. I would love to see the relationship with Ethan develop a little more. I am excited to see Hannah enter the series and can't wait to hear what the next step after her dad contacting her, I had felt it building up to that but am interested to see how it plays out.

A Broken Mind(Allie Bishop FBI Mystery Thriller Book 5)

OMG!!!!!!! This book was truly amazing and totally scary. Allie sure can find some freaky cases and this one was way freaky. You have middle aged men turning up dead in strange and unusual ways and in strange places. This one takes everything Allie and Jason have to solve it, but they do and it is much stranger then you would expect. I can't wait to read the next book.

Finally the formulaic way these books were wrapping up seems to be in the past and I’m infatuated with the plots again. I’m starting to notice there’s a trend of transitions being a little rough where from one paragraph to the next they’ve jumped to a new location and I have to reread a couple of times to notice it’s happening. So curious to see what develops with the introduction of the cliffhanger at the end of this one!

Good stuff

I really like this series. The story line is intriguing and keeps the pages turning. The characters along with the main person, Allie, really make you feel a part of it. The cases these folks get assigned are mind boggling and nothing I've ever heard of. I'm looking forward to the next book already.

the mind works in mysterious ways

Oddly, just caught a television show in which the perpetrator was killing abusive partners, although mental issues were not at play therein.

Middle-aged men are being found brutally murdered, with unique and unusual talismans left behind.

The denouement was startling.

Broken Mind- Indeed!

What can I say? Another great Agent Bishop book. The title finally hits home toward the end of the story and it gets a little bizarre. We were left hanging over a couple of old threads in this story, but I'm sure they will be continued in the next book. Another exciting story awaits!

Can't rate it higher

An FBI agent shouldn't constantly be a damsel in distress needing a man to save her. The books in this series are interesting, but the author struggles. A lot of things go unexplained which is frustrating for the reader. Also the number of typos sometimes make the reading challenging.

I have been enjoying the Allie Bishop series, but this one fell short for me. The motive and the plot behind the serial killer and the killer himself completely fell short. A little too over the top for this reader.
However, that won’t stop me from continuing on with the series.

Different

Trying to figure out the ending to this one had me looking in many directions. Nothing cane to mind. Enjoyed that I couldn't see it coming, but when it was revealed it was a complete surprise.

A Broken Mind

Another serial killer is on the loose but keeps changing the MO. Turns out to be an abused woman with a documented 8 personas. Hannah is transferring from Idaho and Allies father tries to contact her. This is great.

Amaaazzzing!

Wow…what a roller coaster ride. Eva Sparks…you have an incredible, imaginative mind. Some of the best writing around.

The subject matter was clever and panic-inducing. No spoilers from me, readers, just relax and enjoy the roller coaster…

A Difficult Case

Allie and Jason were on a case that was riddled with unusual details. They have been able to put together a profile or even a motive. Allie went to visit the wife of a man who had been missing for two weeks and all heck broke loose with a surprise ending.

Great Characters

What is a book without complex characters? This one has them! Eva Sparks winds a tale of suspense and drama in her continuing series with Allie Bishop. I recommend this to those who enjoy a good mystery that’s an intriguing, pleasing read.

Takes a while to get into the narrative.

I nearly closed the book as it was so boring. I even skipped 2-3 chapters. It seemed all they talked about was food. But I stayed with it and it finally got down to business.

A weird one!!

Jason and Allie have a weird case with no real clues. Men keep getting killed by different ways. There are a lot of questions, some emotional trauma, and an unusual ending. You don't want to miss this one.

I love my new family

Once again, I was unable to put the book down for very long. It takes me longer to read these days, but you don’t know what I don’t care because my life is reading and his stories become stories about my family. Thank you.
