When I was a kid, the show "Maya the Bee" (“Maja de bij” in Dutch) which aired on Belgian television in the early 80s intrigued me to the point that I started developing an interest in insects and started an insect collection. I remember seeing this book outside a bookstore and my parents must have seen me browsing it with great interest. They subsequently purchased the book without me knowing, wrapped it in packing paper and gave it for my 9th birthday in 1982. I read this book inside out. It was a great resource for a kid like me and a fanatic collector of insects. This hobby kept me busy for the next five years. I still have some of the insects I collected in those days, and I am still intrigued by the "wonderworld of insects." Today, my son seems to have inherited this interest in insects.
