Hoping her infatuation with a dubious man will pass, her parents send beautiful Dubliner Katarina O'Barry to Stockholm to live with relatives, where she meets young Count Hamilton, who shows her the joys of independence.
This book is about a young woman coming out to the world looking for a man to marry. She finds the one that she wants to be with, but her parents decide to send her to her uncle and aunt in Sweden. While she has hope of seeing the young man again once he goes to Sweden for business, she realizes that it wasn't true love but more of an infatuation because his job sounded so exciting. Katy finds herself and the person she is meant to be in Sweden. The book was decent some areas dragged, but not bad.
A young miss finding her self and worth just before the turn of the century (1897): first third typical of 19th century based romances; second third showed some promise as young miss discovers what the world can hold; finale .... her love shows up on magnificent steed (literally) to make all good at the end. I feel that the author just did not do justice to the female mind of the era in that situation.
Young woman breaks tradition in 1897 to be independent! Great story of using her talents and creates a job that she gets paid an unheard of amount in that time. Fun, and amusing, and so much going on!
