To the London ton, Cameron MacNeill is an awkward, wallflower of a man with no hope of finding a wife. But the Highland chief holds deadly secrets, and he uses his beggar-like appearance to remain unnoticed. He enlists the help of the School for Spinsters to help him find a wife who will agree to be married in name only—because he needs a mother for his son while he is away working on behalf of the Crown.
Lady Ashleigh Pryor will do anything to escape the abusive household of her father—even marry a man she barely knows. But Cameron's lightning reflexes, the powerful muscles he hides behind ill-fitting clothing, and his mysterious manner suggest that he is not a beggar at all, but a man hiding a past he wants no one to know about.
As she starts to uncover the pieces of Cameron's secret life, Ashleigh no longer wants a marriage in name only—she wants a true husband in her bed.
But Cameron can't let himself fall in love—for if his wife learns the truth about who he is, his secrets might put her very life at stake.

Lady Ashleigh Pryor and her mother Georgina’s lives were rigidly controlled by her father Cecil Pryor, Marquess of Rothbury. Everything from the jewellery she wore to what balls she should attend. Ashleigh had been desperately saving her pin money but didn’t have enough for the two of them to escape. Now her father has decided to marry her off to one of his cronies, Lord Falkland. Cameron MacNeill, Chief of Kilmartin was a spy for the Crown. He was looking for a mature woman, a wife to take charge of his holdings in Scotland and his son Logan whilst he was on missions. She would be a wife in name only. Ashleigh and Cameron were introduced by Mrs. Rachael Harding of the “School for Spinsters.” neither thought they suited. That is until Ashleigh is forced to runaway sooner than expected. She chose to depart from a ball she’s attending. (Ok, even I know the footman employed by her father wouldn’t keep quiet about her asking him to place her trunk in the carriage when she’s only going to a ball!) Ashleigh tries to flee and is nearly caught. (Here’s where our knight in shining armour, Cameron, steps in and whisks her away—to Scotland!) Wicked papa of course never gives up the search! He’s a control freak of the worst sort. Meanwhile Ashleigh finds herself attracted to Cameron. Perhaps she can change his mind?Ashleigh’s seduction of Cameron could have taken up fewer pages IMO. Aspects of the story present excitement and challenge. Cameron continues his hazardous work for the Crown. Wicked Papa hones in on Ashleigh’s whereabouts. I must admit to being annoyed by the way Ashleigh quite frequently put herself and her new family in danger. Still a pleasant enough read.
A Dragonblade ARC via NetGalley. Many thanks to the author and publisher.
I just couldn’t put this down and read it in a day. Cameron MacNeill wasn’t a bit like the character he portrayed. Lady Ashleigh had a very difficult life at home and was desperate to escape. Her father, the Marquess of Rothburn was a very controlling bully. The school for spinsters comes into play and tries to help. I did like the way that Cameron and Ashleigh came to acknowledge how they felt about each other. This story moved along at a good pace, there is danger in a variety of forms but it has a very satisfying ending.
This is only my 8th book by Michelle Willingham. I read 4 books in 2016, 2 in 2017, 1 in 2019 and just picked up this new series. The previous books I read of hers, at the time, I was not writing any reviews here in Goodreads and I have no notes about her writing or my opinion of her books in my personal notes either which means I don't really remember her. I must have liked her though to have download more than 1 book by her. If I don't like an author, I put them on my "Single Books Read" list and move on. I was so glad I downloaded this series. I read book 1 in one day and loved it.
Well this one didn't disappoint either. I loved this story. I loved Ashleigh and Cameron. There was so much depth in this story. I feel Michelle left nothing unsaid. I read a lot of books and a lot of really great books but occasionally I feel like when it ends, the author doesn't quite close out certain things that happen and I find myself wanting more. Not here. Great finish and an overall great read.
Ashleigh and Cameron are the sweetest couple to read about in this series. Their story reads with love and compassion for one another. The story is like a true love story. I enjoyed the book immensely. The book makes you feel as though each couple that you meet should experience love and romance as our main couple should. This was a good read. I enjoyed everything about the book. I will say this. I think that Ashleigh age could’ve been older than twenty two. Her character has the maturity of a woman older than twenty two. Perhaps her characters age could have been twenty four or older.
Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this ebook and this is my freely given opinion.
This is book 4 of the series, and I am liking how there is a bit of overlap of the various story-lines and interconnection of various characters, in minor ways, throughout the series.
We meet both these protagonists in the previous books in some way. Lady Ashleigh appeared to be a spoiled, snobbish wealthy daughter of an aristocrat, and a bit of a Regency Mean Girl, along with her friend. But in this book, we get more of her story and background, learning that, despite her elevated station in life, she and her mother are caught up in a cycle of abuse from her father. Ashleigh is desperate to try to find a way to escape her father and save her mother from him before it is too late. She does not want to marry, but her plans to try to gain the funds for a simple life with her mother in hiding have not come to fruition.
Cameron MacNeil is a man with many secrets, working incognito for the Crown. He hides behind a slovenly bearded facade, but this allows him to hear so much, yet be unseen as members of the Ton choose not to see someone so beneath their usual standards of beauty and decorum. But, before he can continue his secret work, he needs to take care of a bit of personal housekeeping. He is a widowed single father, and needs to find himself a high born wife who is used to managing a large household and estate and can be a mother to his young son. However, his first marriage was a severe disappointment, so he has no desire to seek love, or even intimacy again. He seeks out the help of the School of Spinsters to find him such a bride.
Ashleigh and he initially find they are not what each other seeks, but when pushed to desperation by her father, Ashleigh reapproaches Cameron again, and they elope without her knowing what she is truly signing up for, but willing to take a risk to save herself and her mother from her father. In the end, Ashleigh finds she does not want a cold marriage in name only, but desires a true family and marriage, and Cameron is not able to resist her, especially when he finds that she is nothing like his first wife. However, she and her mother are unable to stay out of her father's reach in the end, and Cameron is forced to deal with him, to keep his family safe.
Both Ashleigh and Cameron were intriguing characters, partly because we were introduced and only saw the one side of them before, and now get more insight into them in this story, and I loved the tension and dynamics in the various familial relationships.
I am further drawn in by the building intrigue of the secondary relationship hinted at in the last book and continuing in this one.

The second book in the series & it’s easily read on its own although both Cameron & Ashleigh feature in the first book. I really liked Cameron who was Ashleigh's knight in shining armour. I came to this book disliking Ashleigh but gradually, as her backstory emerged, I came to like her. I did love the attraction between them & how Cameron fought against it. I enjoyed this well written romance which held my interest all the way through. There are edge of the seat moments, a mother & daughter emerging from years of abuse & a tender love story My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.
Finding out that her cruel father has sold her hand in marriage, Lady Ashleigh Pryor knows her time is up, and she needs to escape immediately. She's saved a little of her pin money, but not enough to survive, and especially not with her mother. She needs Mrs Harding's help, and it seems Ashleigh might finally be in luck. Cameron MacNeill has arrived in London to find a wife, in name only, who can be the mother to his son, and not ask too many questions about his work. He's also attracted to Ashleigh, though he's adamant he won't fall in love.
As much as I disliked Ashleigh in the first book, I understood why she had acted that way once we learnt about her family story. She may be the daughter of a Marquess, but he was cruel and abusive, and always needed control. Ashleigh had never had the freedom to make her own choices, and especially not to make mistakes, and needed some time to come into her true self. She and Cameron were a great couple, and though I wish they hadn't kept so many secrets from each other - especially Cameron about his work for the Crown, and little Logan - I understood why they'd done so. This was a great Regency romance, and I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing the couple again in book 3!
What a wonderful love story for Ashleigh and Cameron! Full of adventure, some super hot scenes and action! This is a great series and definitely recommend them! Can't wait to read book 3

London 1816
This story centers on the highland Chieftain of Kilmartin, Cameron MacNeill, who is a withdrawn, peculiar man, living a secret life who is looking for a wife in name only. He looks like a homeless man living in poverty with his ill fitting baggy clothing and unkempt, long, shaggy beard. Therefore he asks Mrs. Rachel Harding, owner of “The School For Spinsters” for assistance in finding him a wife. His wife must agree they will be no more than friends with no love or future child will ever enter the picture. Afterall he already has a three year old son named Logan. Therefore he basically just wants a wife to care and raise his son while he is busy secretly working on secret Crown business. Yet he does not want his son to be raised by a nursemaid or servant like he was. He actually wants a woman who will truly love his son Logan and be a true loving mother to his son. A son he does not plan telling his new wife about until after they are wed!
However this woman will not be overwhelmed by castle business and can run his estate business while he is away. However this wife cannot have any personal or romantic expectations of the marriage as it will be a marriage in name only and there will be no future children as he already has his heir. It is a bit of a double standard as he wants this woman to love his son and his son to love his new mother but he wants a cold marriage in name only and wants no romantic connection to his new wife. Furthermore he is definitely hiding secrets working for the crown too.
This book also centers on a Lady Ashleigh Pryor who had been introduced in the first book as a bully. We soon find out she was not the mean girl she was portrayed to book one’s heroine Violet Edwards. Cameron and Ashleigh met previously, but thought they were too different and not a match. Of course they were both wrong; she thought he was not wealthy or titled because of how he dressed and groomed himself. He saw her in one bad light because she did not rush to defend Violet Edwards when Persephone was mocking Violet’s stutter. As first impressions go both Cameron and Ashleigh are both wrong where neither knows each other's true self and are really going by assumptions.
However Cameron does not realize the horrible prison Ashleigh and her mother are barely surviving in! Living with her titled father who is Cecil Pryor, Marquess of Rothbury, who is more or less an abusive dictator! Now he wants Ashleigh to marry one of his peers, a creepy man who is as old as her own father! Ashleigh knows her time has run out, as she had asked the people running the School for Spinsters for help. She will do anything to get away from her abusive father. That is even to marry a total stranger to escape her fathers cruelty and abuse.
It turns out Cameron becomes her savior on her escape from her father and an unwanted marriage and he brings her to Scotland! So the two who thought they wouldnt suit marry out of desperation and she soon recognizes Cameron is hiding his true self. First by his oversized clothing where he is physically fit she also soon starts to reveal some secrets he didn’t want anyone to know. Yet she doesn't know his biggest secret which remains hidden as it could very well cause her death!
Do these two have a future? Shall Ashleigh’s father discover Cameron and Ashleigh in Scotland and have their marriage annulled? Is it even possible for Cameron to open his heart and let love in? Will Ashleigh and her mum ever be rescued from her abusive husband before it is too late? How can Cameron and Ashleigh ever become a real true family with Logan or will they live separate lives forever that will destroy them both? Read and find out and get swept away in this second spectacular installment of The School for Spinsters.
Again my go to author Michelle Willingham posts another riveting, fast paced, page turning, gripping story that readers will positively love! I absolutely and unequivocally recommend this magnificent book! I can't wait for the series finale with the third book and final book in this wonderful series!

Good book about a damsel in distress and her unlikely white knight. Lady Ashleigh and her mother are caught in a nightmare situation. Her father is a controlling and abusive man who regularly takes out his anger on her mother and her. Ashleigh has been saving her pin money in a desperate attempt to gain the funds necessary for her and her mother to escape. But when her father announces his plans to marry her to his friend, she knows she must move up her timeline. Ashleigh goes to Mrs. Harding at the School for Spinsters for help. Mrs. Harding suggests she use marriage to another man to escape and offers to find such a man for her.
Cameron has come to London from Scotland to find a wife. He is a widower with a young son and a spy for the Crown. A handsome and wealthy man, he disguised himself with a long beard and frumpy clothes to discourage those who wouldn't fit his needs. Because of a tragedy in his past, he only wants a marriage in name only.
When Ashleigh and Cameron meet, they quickly decide they would not suit. Ashleigh doesn't look past Cameron's appearance, and Cameron bases his decision on an incident he witnessed but doesn't know the background of. However, over the next few days, neither can forget the other. Cameron's instincts tell him Ashleigh is in trouble, but he tries to convince himself it's not his business. When circumstances force Ashleigh to attempt her escape earlier than planned (and she stupidly trusts the wrong person), Cormac witnesses first-hand the abuse she faces. I loved his quick-thinking extrication of Ashleigh from her father's clutches.
Ashleigh is understandably wary of Cameron, given her experience with her father, but his kindness and gentleness weaken her defenses. He offers to either marry her or take her somewhere safe. I liked their compromise: they would get to know each other on the trip to Scotland, where she would decide. They had a frank discussion of their expectations - no intimacy on his side and her mother's rescue on hers. During the trip, the sparks of attraction between them grow.
I loved Ashleigh's sensitivity to what she believes is Cameron's poor state of finances, and she is taken aback by the things he has purchased for her for their wedding. The wedding scene was terrific, and Cameron's fight against his attraction was evident. I loved her shock when they arrived at his home, and she discovered the truth about his wealth. But the bigger surprise comes when he tells her about his son and his expectation that she will be a mother to him. I understood his reasons for not telling her before, but it was still wrong.
I enjoyed watching their relationship develop. The sparks between them are evident from the start, but Cameron is determined to ignore them. That becomes increasingly difficult as Ashleigh is determined to make theirs a real marriage. I enjoyed seeing Ashleigh discover that there is more to Cameron than meets the eye, and she rapidly loses her heart to him. Her frustration is evident when he leaves soon after their arrival and gives no indication when he will return. He has been assigned a new mission and refuses to tell her about his clandestine activities.
I ached for them during their time apart. I liked seeing Ashleigh settle in, fall for little Logan, and help her mother recover. But she desperately misses Cameron. Meanwhile, Cameron is in desperate straits on his mission, and his life is in danger. I was glued to the pages through this part as he faced death. I cheered on Ashleigh after his arrival back home in deplorable condition and loved her determination to be part of his healing. Her ingenuity in finding her way past his protectors was inspired.
This was a turning point in their marriage, and I loved watching them grow closer. Cameron must get past his traumatic memories before he can open up completely to his feelings for her. There are also some instances of Ashleigh needing to realize that Cameron is very different than her father and that she can trust him. I loved how Ashleigh went after what she wanted.
There is trouble with Ashleigh's father, who has not taken the disappearance of his daughter and wife well. He makes a tactical error in his attempt to get them back to London. I loved the plan Ashleigh and Cameron devised and enjoyed seeing Ashleigh take on her father. The real surprise was Ashleigh's mother, and I loved seeing the changes in her.
The ending was great, and I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.
Eu amei demais! Super-Hiper-Ultra-Mega-Power recomendado!
*I received a free ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review*
After getting glimpses of Ashleigh in Match Made in London it was clear there was way more to her than what we got to see so I was so excited that book 2 would tell her story. She really is the embodiment of the idea that privilege does not always mean a happy or carefree life. I will admit that I was not a huge fan of Cameron initially when he was so dismissive of Ashleigh and couldn't understand that maybe she didn't have the charmed life he thought she did. But I warmed up quickly to him when he didn't totally write her off and continued to seek out what was going on with her. It was also a little refreshing to have a male lead that wasn't super confident in the bedroom. So often they are depicted as god's gift to women so this twist offered a little something new. I thoroughly enjoyed following Ashleigh and Cameron's relationship from not liking one another to helping one another to falling in love. Ashleigh's immediate taking to Logan was also really sweet - and the fact that she faced one of her greatest fears in order to save him, well if I didn't like her before I certainly would have at that point. I also really enjoyed watching Ashleigh's mother gain back some of her confidence and independence - and I totally agree with her, her husband's end was very fitting. One thing that could have made his even better would have been something with Ashleigh and Violet towards the end of the novel. I really want these two women to be friends. There's a little hint of a possible romance for Mrs. Harding which I definitely want to know more about. And I am really looking forward to meeting Emma and finding out how The School for Spinsters helps her find happiness.
I liked this story. Neil is looking for a new wife funadamentally to look after his son, Logan. He is not very presentable becuase he uses his appearance as an aide to helping his work as a spy. I must admit I was confused as to which Queen he worked for....it wasn't my impression that George 111's wife was a great spymaster, too busy with those 15 kids. We've met Ashleigh in the other books. She was boxed into being unpleasant to a previous heroine. Ashleigh has been bullied by her father. She's also very concerned for her mother Georgina's mental state. The horrible father want's to marry her off so Ashleigh approaches the school for spinisters to see if they can find a spouse. Neil and Ashleigh agree they won't suit but then Neil changes his mind seeing the desperate situation. He agrees to help her flee with the idea that on the journey they get to know each other and then Ashleigh can confirm the marriage when they arrive at his estate. I thought some of it was a little OTT come unrealistic especially Neil being in prison for a couple of months and tortured.. If Georgina knew she was married at 16 without her parents permission why didn't she threaten the husband with this before...but obviously the downside of this would have been to make Ashleigh illegitimate.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved the story of Ashleigh and Cameron. Ashleigh has an abusive father and wants to escape, and Cameron needs a wife to take care of his young son after his first wife died. His first marriage was an unhappy marriage. His wife didn’t like his touch and abhorred consuming the marriage, leaving Cameron thinking he cannot give pleasure to a woman. She died in childbirth and he is consumed by guilt, so he doesn’t want a real marriage but a marriage in name only. He rescues Ashleigh from her father and asks her to consider marriage to him, and after spending a fee days in his company she learns he is a very kind and considerate man and would never hurt her. Cameron disguised himself to be safe from several people but also to disguise his wealth and position, not wanting a wife who would feign interest in him because of that. I loved that Ashleigh pushed back in every situation that stood in the way of getting closer to her husband but knew when to thread carefully with this wounded man with scars on his soul. The characters are realistic, the ending is unsurprising and as expected. The only thing that remains unresolved is the question what happens to his job a spy. I received and reviewed an advanced copy of this book and I want to thank the author and the publisher for that. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Cameron MacNeill needs a wife and Lady Ashleigh Pryor needs to escape her father’s home. They look to Ms. Harding at the ‘school for spinsters’ for help. They seem a perfect match for a marriage of convenience, but neither Cameron nor Ashleigh agrees. However, in the masterful writing of Michelle Willingham, they not only end up in a marriage, but have to work together to keep them and Cameron’s son safe.
I love the characters Ms. Willingham creates and I can’t help but fall in love with them. They are smart, witty, and loving. Her books are always a go to for me. They captivate me from the beginning, and I find myself not putting them down until I’m done. I loved seeing a few scenes from the first book of this series, A Match Made in London, from Ashleigh and Cameron’s point of view. I always enjoy seeing characters flow from one book to the next, but especially when we’re given a more complete view of a scene from several other characters. Her secondary characters have wit and wisdom and I enjoyed seeing more of Ms. Harding and Gregory, I hope they can both have their own happy endings as well. This is a wonderful standalone read, but I think would be enjoyed even more if you read book one in the series first. I received an arc from NetGalley of this book, and this is my honest review.
This is the second book of The School for Spinsters and is a great addition to the series. Lady Ashleigh has a very controlling father. He is planning on getting her married to one of his cronies, and she is desperate to escape the marriage and his clutches. She goes to Mrs. Harding and the School for Spinsters for help. Cameron MacNeil is a spy for the Crown. The ton sees him as an awkward man, with a somewhat shabby appearance, which suits him just fine. All the better to stay unnoticed and do his job. He is looking for a woman to be his wife, in name only, and stay home and hold down the fort, as well as take care of his son. He enlists the help of the School for Spinsters to help him find such a woman. When Cameron and Lady Ashleigh meet, they know they are not well suited for each other. But when Cameron witnesses firsthand the abuse she faces by her father, he becomes her savior and saves her from her father's clutches. The story was well-paced and well-written and kept my interest till the end. I enjoyed how the characters started to fall for each other as they got to know each other and see their true selves. They were truly great characters and I became invested in their story. An entertaining and enjoyable addition to the series! I received a complimentary copy from Dragonblade Publishing and Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This story is filled with everything you want to escape from your life. We are treated to romance that builds slowly, suspense, violence, mean nasty villain and characters that grow from having no voice to taking charge of their lives. The scene with the H and his job with the Crown, was written so well, that you felt his anguish.
The H isn't as he appears and his story slowly unfolds. From his reason to wanting a wife and why he disappears from months on end. They come together not liking each other and decide they will not suit. The h is trying to get away from a very abusive father and help her mother escape too.
What the H/h thought of each other slowly has them changing their minds. This couple worked and then you add the little boy, your heart will melt.
Lovemaking within marriage, heat level 5 out of 5 and described many times.
I found the story unique, pace was perfect, standalone story, HEA, romance and steam. I can't improve on the blurb so not attempting. Just giving you some tidbits to decide whether to purchase, which I recommend you do. (ljb)
A lovely story in which a pivotal lesson is learned - never judge a book by its cover. Cameron MacNeill appears unkempt and uncouth when he is a rich Chief in Scotland with his own castle. :Lady Ashleigh Pryor looks like she has everything but in reality lives with an abusive father whom she would do almost anything to escape. Neither Cam nor Ashleigh are fully convinced the other is what they need. Cam wants a mother for his son and a wife in name only. Ashleigh simply wants a way out for her and for her mother.
Cam and Ashleigh embark on a journey over both physical and emotional distance. The story keeps the reader involved, even as Cam’s willful blindness to the life he could have frustrates over and over again. Logan is a sweet addition, and it is fantastic to see Ashleigh and her mother be able to forge identities away from the man who continues to seek to abuse them.
This is a very slow burn and can be a little too pat in places. But a good read overall. While part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone. A solid 4 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and Dragonblade for a complimentary ARC of this title. The opinions in this review are my own.
Both of the main characters in this book were introduced in "A Match Made in London." Ashleigh was a mean girl and Cameron was a grubby Scotsman. There was obviously more going on with both characters. In this book we learn that Ashleigh's bad behavior occurred because of desperation while Cameron's less than desirable exterior was actually a disguise. Their initial meeting did not go well, but both of them had promised the matchmaking service that they would make a fair attempt. After some time had passed, Ashleigh and Cameron became more stressed. They tentatively agreed to a marriage of convenience. Once married, both of them had to face some extreme challenges. During this time, both of them began to show each other their true selves which ultimately led to a happy ending for the deserving couple. This romance was a pleasure to read. A few interesting tidbits were dropped which promise that the next installment of this series will be as good as this one! I received a free ARC from NetGalley and this is my honest review.
I really liked the premise of Match Me, I'm Falling. Cam MacNeill is a wealth man, with a son and a castle, He has a list of requirements for his potential wife. One is celibacy, but we'll come to that in a bit. He hides in plain sight, with his long beard and unkempt appearance, cuz he's got secrets.
Ashleigh is in dire need of funds to escape her abusive father (a marquess who abuses his wife) with her mother. Cam engages Mrs. Hardy and Cedric and Cedric (crafty as he is) sees an opportunity for Ashleigh and Cam.
So, great book, I really liked both main characters and back to that celibacy bit? Yeah. Well, you have to read it to see how that worked out....But you could also take a guess. Cam suffers from guilt that his wife died in childbirth and only wants to be friends with a mother for his son. Recommend.
Caught in a trap of her own making, Lady Ashleigh finds herself at Cameron MacNeill's mercy when she becomes desperate enough to make her escape from her father's house. Cameron is looking for a wife, but one that he can trust with his son and his household, and Lady Ashleigh is not that woman. Nevertheless, he cannot ignore a woman who is under threat and he makes a pact with her, one that they both begin to regret as they uncover truths about one another and realize that first impressions are not always correct. The romance between Cameron and Ashleigh moves slowly, but there is fast-paced action throughout, bringing the novel to an unexpected and good conclusion. I received a copy of this novel as a gift from Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Cameron MacNeill lives a life full of secrets . He prefers to blend into the background, but needs to find a mother for his son. The woman's character is the most important thing to him.
Lady Ashleigh Pryor needs to find a way to get herself and hopefully her mother away from her abusive father. Easier said than done when men have all the legal power over their female family members.
This historical romance has incredibly strong characters. Some just need a push to find their courage. There is lots of adventure, it is slightly steamy and has secrets galore. It's a fast paced read that is part of a series. Each book in the series can be read alone, but they will tempt you to read the rest.
The second book in the School for Spinster series is another entertaining and enjoyable read. It centers on Ashleigh and the mysterious stranger, Cameron, who were both introduced in the first book. Unlike the first book, this story involves much more terror, fear and suspense. The author has done an excellent job of creating tension and a plot that kept me on the edge of my seat. The romance develops slowly and the heat builds as Ashleigh and Cameron learn to live together. Michelle Willingham is a new to me author and the first two books in this series prove that I want to read more of her books.
Forced by her cruel father to marry, Ashleigh decides to take her chances and elope with Scotsman Cameron. As long as he agrees to get her abused mother away from her father as well, Ashleigh agrees to a marriage of convenience. Cameron needs someone to be a mother to his little boy while he is off spying for the crown. Having lost his first wife in childbirth, he does not want to become very close to this wife. Both realize that they want more. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.
This story had two characters that we saw briefly in book one. Ashleigh and MacNeiell, were both looking for something and sought Mrs. Harding to assist. They meet and do not suit, but the situation changes for Ashleigh. She needed help and MacNeill assisted. This book handles the situation of domestic abuse. I think it is a realistic portrayal, but does not go into a lot of detail. Love does prevail but took a longer road to get there. The story kept me interested from the first page, we also get a pick at what may be coming in the future of the series. Enjoy!
Cameron has spent his life in a world of pain and suffering. His only purpose in life is as a spy for the crown and finding a wife to mother his son. His rules for a wife change when he rescues Lady Ashleigh from her abusive father. But Ashleigh's father wants her back and will buy whatever it takes to get her back. Cameron will do whatever it takes to keep her. Willingham writes of deep emotional pain and love. Descriptive sex and violence. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Well...turns out the school helps men too; that was a twist I'd not expected. Cameron seeks help but ends up with Ashleigh on his own by rescuing her from her abusive father. He is determined to protect her and she accepts her role in the castle. As days pass feelings change and danger arises...first for Ashleigh then wee Logan. A story filled with action, feelings, bonding, and several dangerous situations both in Scotland then back in London. Hard to put down, I highly recommend the book and series.
Lady Ashleigh Pryor needs to leave an abusive home. Cameron McNeill is in need of a wife. Both of them visit Mrs. Harding in need of help looking for a spouse. Due to unforeseen events, Lady Ashleigh and Chief McNeill end up running away together.
This is a story of two people who look past what they think about the other in order to make a marriage work. It was a cute romantic story of watching the two get to know each other.
Wait wait wait.. let's swap the genders and see how this sounds: He cuts her hair while she's injured and nearly comatose into something he likes on her better. OMG that's psychotic!
So basically the premise is that it's supposed to be a loveless marriage but she decides she doesn't want that so she pretty much forces herself into his life. But wait, he's a spy so he has to keep everyone away from his heart at all times including his son... sounds legit.
