A Fated Vow: Of Death & Starlight, Book 1

Rate this book
As the only living heir, I was supposed to wed Vanderlyth's most notorious sack of potatoes. Except, our ship went down and said potato sailed away in the only lifeboat, leaving me to drown. My last image? His middle finger.

Luck must be on my side because I wash up on the mainland. A place filled with my father's enemies, home to droves of demons that would kill me for my pointy ears alone.

I take shelter inside an abandoned castle, but while trying to discern a way out of this mess, a hauntingly flirtatious demon spots me. Knife to my throat, he claims to be the lord of this keep and demands to know why I'm trespassing. My mind floods with excuses . . . pleas . . . really anything to continue breathing.

Only one thing is certain . . . By no means can he know I'm the Elf Lord's daughter. He'd kill me faster than I could blink. We're at war, and my father has played dirty.

But despite the scarred Demon Lord pinning me with his poison-tipped blades and breath-taking amber eyes, he hasn't killed me yet. In fact, it almost seems like he wants to help me?

Suddenly, everything I know is questioned. Are the demons the evil monsters we're taught to believe? Or are we?

Contains mature themes.

a cozy fantasy to those who are a-okay with murder and demons. Not much happens, but you decide if that's a good or bad thing, go nuts.

This was ok, it was an easy read.
Unfortunately nothing really happened I feel like it was lacking a story of I’m honest.
It plodded along and wasn’t terrible the mmc Azmodias was the best character tbh
And the gargoyles they was excellent!
I wish this just had a bit more oomph!!

The front cover of this book would probably make me not read it I feel that this could have had such a better cover.

Thank you netgalley for the arc

Oh my goodness, *A Fated Vow* by Amanda Aggie has stolen my heart completely! 💖✨ It’s a lush, intoxicating dance of enemies and lovers, woven with magic, mystery, and a touch of darkness that keeps you spellbound from start to finish. 🌙🖤

Our brave elf girl, destined to inherit the shimmering Elven Islands 🏝️, finds her world turned upside down when she’s forced into a marriage with Vanderlyth’s most notorious sack of potatoes 🥔—a union that feels more like a storm on the horizon than a promise of love. Then, in a cruel twist, she’s cast away, presumed lost at sea, only to wash ashore on foreign sands, her soul still shimmering from the waves. 🌊✨

But the greatest surprises await her in the shadows—where a hauntingly brooding demon lord with scars like secrets and a gaze that burns like midnight appears. 🔥🖤 His presence is both terrifying and alluring—a dark, dangerous melody that calls to her heart, refusing to let go. He’s no knight in shining armor, yet somehow, his torment and power sing a siren song she cannot resist. 🧟‍♂️💫

Their sparks fly amid whispers of danger and desire, a slow burn that teeters on the edge of chaos and passion. The tension crackles like lightning, pulling you deeper into their tangled world, where love blooms fierce and unyielding amidst shadows. 🌌💕

If you yearn for a story that stirs your soul with every page—one filled with fierce heroines, dangerous heroes, and a romance that lingers like a sweet, forbidden secret—then *A Fated Vow* is your perfect escape. I’m utterly enchanted and giving it four shimmering stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Amanda Aggie’s magic is simply irresistible! ✨💕

Happy reading, my lovelies—may your hearts soar as high as the stars! 💕📚

I'd never read/listened to anything by Amanda Aggie before I received the ARC audiobook for A Fated Vow and let me just say - I'm hooked! I'll be picking up her other books asap because I really enjoyed A Fated Vow! And it got me out of my book slump and made me want to listen to more audiobooks again!

The narrators are great, the world building was good, you come to really care for the FMC and MMC but also the side characters too - who doesn't love a banter filled found family! The slow burn was nice too, and it wasn't too smut-heavy as I feel a lot of works these days can be, but A Fated Vow had a nice balance there with more emotional build up than anything. The MMC and his nephew are my favourite characters, Asmo because he's the dark broody prince of death that's secretly a little cinnamon roll and Griffin because he was a great way to have comedy throughout the book and also to have the emotional support for the main characters that I felt was really nice and touching.

I'm excited to pick up the next instalment when it's released. What I will say is I wish the audiobook had ended one chapter earlier, when the twist happened, just to leave a little suspense until the next book 😊

WE GOT AN ASMO STORY! All of you who have read This Wicked Bond will be familiar with this character and you're lying if you say you aren't interested in him from that book! You do not have to read other books to understand this one, but you will already have an attachment to Asmo from others if you have ;) Thank you, Amanda, for having me on your ARC team!

Asmo comes off as this big bad guy, but he is such a cinnamon roll. He's one of those characters who will watch those he cares about get into trouble, roll his eyes, then pull up his sleeves and dive in to save them. He loves but keeps those he loves at arms length because of how he's been treated in his past. I mean, who would seriously see the female who stabbed him and almost killed him for the second time and be like, "hey, need a place to stay? I've got a big house."😂

Valeria is such a neat female. She's an elf (enemy to the people of the island she ends up on) and she's relieved she's been shipwrecked and abandoned by her betrothed. He seriously ditches her in the ocean and saves himself. Bye girl, bye. She's off to better males.

The relationship developments in this story are so fun. Asmo's nephew gets thrown into the mix and is this great comedic relief. Who knew we needed a third wheel and would LOVE him?!

The slow burn is delicious and loved how everything came together in that department ;)
You get some fun revelations and some chaos in the end, and I can't wait to see where these stories go!

3.5⭐️ This was cute. I feel like not much happened in the first 60% of the book, but even though not much really happened it was still entertaining enough to keep me reading. I think the fact that I enjoyed these characters had a lot to do with me not losing interest. The last 40% was where it picked up. The ending hand me in tears. I’d still recommend this book, but definitely not to everyone more so people who enjoy cozy fantasy’s. I will continue the series when the next book comes out, albeit I’ll be in no rush.

A cozy, chaotic fantasy romance with bite, but not quite the punch I hoped for.

The male narrator's voice was the main reason I chose this audio, making up about 90% of my decision. That said, based on the plot, I initially expected the story to be told mostly from the FMC’s POV, but it turned out to be the opposite. It felt a bit strange given how the story was presented, but I’m not complaining because the narrative flowed well and both characters were enjoyable to listen to.

A Fated Vow hooks readers right from the start with an irresistible blend of intrigue and tension. The story wastes no time diving into its captivating premise, complete with a royal arranged marriage, a disastrous shipwreck, a false death plot, and an enigmatic demon lord who commands the power to resurrect the dead. It’s a setup brimming with possibilities: drama, peril, and maybe even a hint of sultry romance, and for the most part, it succeeds in delivering on its ambitious promises.

The elf heroine, freshly escaped from an unwanted marriage and a harrowing near-drowning, finds herself settling in a ruined castle. Her peace, however, is short-lived when she encounters Azmodius. Far from being your conventional hero (since he happens to be a demon), he quickly becomes the most intriguing figure in the tale. With his scars, sharp wit, and an oddly irresistible charm, he brings just the right hint of villainy to keep things enthralling. And the gargoyles? Utterly delightful additions.

Despite some standout moments, not much truly unfolds. The stakes seem minimal, and the plot tends to wander rather than develop momentum. While the banter and the haunting magic system are highlights, the overall pacing feels sluggish, especially through the middle section. As a result, I didn’t feel particularly invested in the ending, even though it was, in its way, well wrapped up.
Still, there’s an undeniable charm to the atmosphere: it’s cozy, if you’re okay with murder and necromancy. The world has potential, and I suspect future books will build on the foundation this one lays.

If you’re looking for a lighthearted fantasy with flirtatious demons, chemistry, and a touch of gothic charm, this might be your thing. Just don’t expect fast-paced action or deeply intricate plotting. A Fated Vow leans more into atmosphere than adrenaline.

Many thanks to NetGalley and RBmedia for the opportunity to listen to the ALC of this book.

Thank you so much to Amanda Aggie for my Review Copy of A Fated Vow! This review is comprised entirely of my own thoughts & opinions, & is based on the copy I received.

If Amanda Aggie writes it, I’m going to read it. This book was everything I wanted it to be and more! Asmodeus Morningstar is the perfect definition of a morally grey cinnamon roll and this book made me fall in love with him! He’s definitely top tier book boyfriend material. I love how he is so fiercely protective and loyal for those he loves. I loved seeing his journey in this book and loved that he opened up his heart again.

I literally loved everything about this book! I’ve been so excited to read Asmo’s story since I met him in This Wicked Fate, and this book delivered in every single way! Valeria, our FMC, is absolutely amazing and you can’t help but love her from the moment you meet her on page! She is the daughter of Asmo’s greatest enemy, unbeknownst to him. Holding onto her identity causes Valeria to really struggle with her emotions and her feelings towards Asmo. Amanda did such an amazing job of writing how Valeria grapples with these feelings. The chemistry between Valeria and Asmo is off the charts amazing. It was a slow burn, and worth every single second of it. They both denied their feelings for a while, which made the angst and tension so delicious! And their banter had me laughing out loud almost every single page! Pretty much, Asmo and Valeria are perfect!

The plot of this book was perfect! I loved the detail and the world building and thought it was all so wonderfully written. I feel like every book Amanda writes I get to see more of Solaria and it just makes my heart so happy. The romance and plot balance was perfect and I thought it was perfectly paced and written! I cannot wait for Book 2 especially after the ending of this one! It ends on the biggest cliffhanger so I’m super excited already for it!

Audiobook Review: A Fated Vow by Amanda Aggie
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5 stars)

A Fated Vow was an addictive listen that pulled me in with its characters and top-notch narration. The voice actors did an excellent job bringing the story to life—especially E.M. Wylde, who sounded exactly how I imagined Asmo would. Their portrayal really elevated the experience.

The beginning of the book moves a bit slowly, not much happens in the first 30–40%, but once the plot picks up, it really picks up. From there, I was hooked. While some parts of the story were a bit predictable, the emotional tension, and well-executed spicy scenes made up for it. And yes, it ends on a cliff-hanger, which now has me eagerly waiting for the next book!

If you enjoy steamy fantasy romance with strong narration, this one’s definitely worth a listen. I’m already looking forward to what comes next in the series.

The chemistry, the slow burn, the banter and sass of our FMC Valeria. And the MMC - a demon prince. Say less! ✨

Story: 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Narration: 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I devoured this audiobook (dual narration) in two days, because I couldn’t get this story out of my head. The actors do a great job, and I’d even go as far as say Lila Winters is absolutely top tier when it comes to female narration.

The story itself is of a demon prince who finds an intruder in his home, takes pity on her and things develop from there. Add to that fact she’s an elf, the mortal enemy of demons, and there’s a war looming, and you have a (slight) enemies to unlikely allies to friends to lovers scenario. The side characters are incredible — Griffin had me laughing out loud every time he opened his mouth. The story is just a start, as there’s more to come in Book Two, which I’m looking forward to. ✨

Thank you to rbmedia and NetGalley for the Advance copy of this audiobook!

Man that cliffhanger has me desperate for book two!! I mean I’m literally crying at 4 in the morning because of this book! So if you’re looking for for a grumpy/grumpy, enemies to lovers, slow burn romance, brimming with tension between a morally grey villain who only cares about her and a snarky elven girl who is just trying to make it out of her predicament alive than this is absolutely the book for you!

I really enjoyed this novel, the only reason it wasn’t a five star read for me is simply that there was a smidge to much world building for me. However the banter between Asmo and Valeria made up for that 1000%! They had me cracking up till the early morning hours! Asmo especially, I mean even his opening line had me in stitches! I just loved that while Asmo was a grump and a loner he made exceptions for those he truly cared about, and he was ready to do whatever it took to protect them… even if it put him on the wrong side of morality. And of course I loved Valeria as well. She was strong, stubborn and resilient while still breaking the elven mold and caring deeply for everyone around her… sometimes snarkily! And the tension! Omg, I loved reading about their love bloom! It was slow burn but delicious at the same time… and that’s all I’ll give you about their romance as I don’t want to spoil anything!

Not only were the characters hilarious, and so relatable (well as relatable as magic races can be)what really kept me reading, besides the romance, was that I just really enjoyed the adventure, and mysteries wrapped up in this book! There’s spies, political intrigue, potential plots against the crown, and so much more!

Honestly this is the perfect book for romantasy readers and should be added to your TBR immediately!

HAPPY READING 📖

Plot - 2/5
Characters - 3/5
Spice - 🌶️🌶️

This novel is a solid 2.5 for me. I will admit I have not read the prequel series which may have impacted my rating slightly but I just found I struggled to connect with the characters. A Fated Vow follows Asmodeus (our grumpy MMC) as he meets and bonds with the fae trespassing on his lands while he was gone, Valeria (our FMC).

I enjoyed the banter between Asmodeus and Valeria but I felt like their interactions lacked depth. The book was so busy that it was hard to find a time where they were both on page and having a meaningful interaction. I was not a fan of Asmodeus and the Queen's relationship. I was also not a fan that he continued to pine for his mate, Jade, only to find out in the end that Valeria is her re-incarnation (of which the queen knew and intentionally set up).

The world building is a bit of a mess and I felt like all of the characters were much too overpowered, besides Valeria. Even Asmodeus finding out her true identify doesn't do more but throw a wrench in the storyline for about 5 pages before they're back together. Honestly, this is probably a one and done for me.

Wasted potential

Worldbuilding was abysmal at best. I did not realize going into this book it was heavily reliant upon another series for worldbuilding and character backgrounds - this should have been made clear to the reader beforehand. The relationships between characters were already established and left me feeling lost. This could have been explained so much better.

As far as the romance between the two main characters, I felt that there was no real chemistry between the two. Yeah, they found each other attractive, but where's the emotion behind it? Because it wasn't explained well in the book 🤷🏼‍♀️

The little pop culture references sprinkled throughout the book were also very distracting for a fantasy setting. Why were twerking and Hogwarts mentioned in this book? It was completely unnecessary and jarring.

I was extremely disappointed by this book because the synopsis made it so interesting, but the execution was sorely lacking.

2.5 ⭐️’s. The plot was meh and very predictable at some points. There was a typo/misspelling every other page for the hundreds of pages this book is. And it was written in a way that made it seem like it was a second book in a series not the first, making the world building and the character development very rushed and confusing

After the ship Valeria was on was attacked and she was left for dead, she ends up at the demon Prince Asmo's keep. She secretly stays to escape her arranged marriage to an awful sack of potatoes.
Asmo finds her and demands she leaves, and after a few.. interesting altercations he allows her to stay.
Valeria doesn't know whether to feel relieved or worried that her life has been tethered to the prince of death, who was banished for slaughtering a castle full of people. He is drop dead gorgeous, but they are constantly bantering. In a world filled with secrets and on the brink of war, they are quite literally forced to find a way to work together and keep the other alive.

A fated vow was such a great Romantasy book. It's a slow paced, semi-cozy read and not too deep fantasy or confusing to follow. This book is great for anyone, even if you aren't the biggest fantasy reader. Griffin was my favorite character, he had the perfect comic relief moments. I am so excited that this audiobook introduced me to this author, I cannot wait to read more of her books. The cliff-hanger at the end has me so ready for the next book.

"Involved? No. Suffering the presence of? Yes."

"Everyone is terrified that their only heir will get hurt, so you're placed in a bubble. You can't eat sleep or breathe without someone there watching, it's lonely and the silence is deafening. Sometimes you need a reprieve and just to crawl out from beneath the weight of responsibility of it to remind yourself what it's like to live."

"War doesn't solve anything- the only thing war leads to is the death of innocent lives on both sides."

The narrator, E.M. Wylde had such a lovely and relaxing voice, which fit the mood of the story, and was perfect to portray Asmo. I also enjoyed the upbeat voice of Lila Winters as Valeria. They made listening to the characters' the banter top-tier. I would highly recommend listening to this book, even if you've already read the book. The audiobook was exceptional and one of my favorites so far this year.

The way the love in the book made me feel was unreal. The relationship in this story is what MADE me love this. Demon prince who secretly is the sweetest man alive and will do anything for his people stumbles upon elvish royalty who is a sea wrecked and looking for an escape to not go back to her kingdom. The tension between these two RAAAAHH their kind have heavily wronged each but they are both willingly to work together for selfish reasons.

I adore the setting of this book, the pacing was perfection as the actions started from page one, and the found family aspect was everything I could have asked for. But the love, oh the love is what genuinely stood out. The love felt genuine, there were so many challenges to overcome but the sweet moment laced in between made me root for them. The enemies where enemying but sexual tension was ALWAYS there. I cried for these characters and their love.

BIG OLE BUT. This book absolutely could have improved on explaining the world. You can a thousand percent tell that there was numerous books in the same world already published as the author skimmed over a lot of the information that is vital to the political system and overall world building. I felt lost for the majority of the book but the love kept me invested. Please author if you are reading this, explain so much more and don’t assume the reader knows anything. If this book said, read x series before I would understand but that was not the cause.

ALC 🎧 Book Review 🤍

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I thought this had some potential, but overall it fell kinda flat for me. None of the characters really connected w/ me, but I did like his nephew lol.
*I’m not sure if I have to read her previous series to really get all the vibes, but also the mention of Harry Potter was weird & so left field lol.

The chemistry w/ our MCs was pretty meh, I guess I was just expecting a twist that wasn’t predictable & maybe some deeper world building to give me that ooh ahh sensation.

“A very dark part of me wants to lay you down on this table to do unspeakable things, and know that when the lords meet here again tonight that I’ve taken you on every inch of it.”
Very yummy line, but I wasn’t swooning 😔

“I’ll be the monster everyone believes me to be, I’ll be the traitor, the villain. I’ll do whatever is necessary to protect her and ensure her happiness, because she is the very thread that creates my own. And this is the kind of monster it will take to save her from this fate.”
*See, I needed more of this type of yearning!! It felt like we just got dumped all of this towards the end, but the build up wasn’t givinggg.

Overall, I did enjoy some parts, but for most part it just became to background for me. Lila Winters and E.M. Wylde did good, but I wish this was a full on duet- I still enjoyed their voices though 🫶🏽

wow! when is book two out because I need it!!

Oh my gosh!

The prince of hell, an elven duchess betrothed to a piece of scum and two races on the brink of war? I’ll take two please.

I devoured Asmo and Valeria’s story and i am left with my jaw on the floor and NEEDing book two NOW to see how these two continue.

Asmo has been through the wringer both emotionally and physically. This male has endured more than so many others and has come out the other side still with his humanity intact. You learn a lot more of Asmos back story in Aggies other books but you can definitely get by reading this as a starting point if you wanted to and get glimpses of what he has been through.

Valeria stumbles into Asmos life on accident but you can instantly feel the draw they have for each other.

I loved all the banter and think Griffin, Asmos nephew is hilarious. The subtle and not so subtle innuendos were laugh out loud funny at some points and overall dialogue flows so well.

Completely not gonna lie, Aggie does a great job with her spice. It compliments the story perfectly and is definitely on fire.

I would strongly advise you to read this is you love fantasy romance with: a morally grey MMC, a sassy FMC, fated mates, hidden identities and spice

This book was an absolute breath of fresh air in the fantasy realm! I loved every moment!

The MMC is Demon Prince Asmos. He is morally gray and has ‘burn the world down for her vibes’ and I’m here for it. A lot of the book is from his POV and it’s great. His inner monologue is so witty and the banter between him and the MFC and his nephew is fantastic.

MFC is a girl from the Elven Islands and there is going to be a lot to unfold for her character and her and Asmos together.

The world building was so exciting as well as the way the whole story is seeming to unfold. The cliffhanger was ughhhh but not to where I’ll lay motionless in a bed for hours sad 🤣. I cannot wait to see how this series goes!

Thank you for the ARC audiobook.

This was my first Amanda Aggie book and I can safely say I loved it. A Fated Vow's audiobook was greatly narrated and I did not feel as though I was missing out on anything, instead I felt like I was better able to imagine the characters. The world building was good and the book did a good job at introducing the FMC and MMC as well as side characters and integrating them into the story without it feeling like something was missing.

This book had demons, witches, slow burn, and smut and it was a fun audiobook, not overly smut-filled but rather a build-up of tension and moments where the FMC and MMC were realising there might be something there. I loved Asmo and Valeria's introduction, the FMC not only being able to get the upper hand on a demon but using his own weapon. Both of them having struggled, although very differently, and working through it together. Valeria struggling with her identity and Asmo baring the weight of being a prince of death, both having seen their fair share of death but still not truly letting it consume them.

I cannot wait for the next instalment of this book!

This was such an easy listen / read. Asmodius isn’t exactly your typical Prince of Death and leans into this more cosy fantasy story.
There isn’t a lot that happens in this book but I hope (assume) this is because it is just book 1, a full cast of characters are introduced and sometimes I felt like there’s a previous book with some of the characters as there was a level of familiarity for some of the royals.
My own preferences mean I’m not a huge fan of instalove and taking into account this book takes place over the span of about a week and half that time one of the main characters isn’t conscious declarations of love are fast.
I’ll keep an eye out for book two!

I received this book as an ARC and provide an honest review

Oh my gosh was this amazing this has to be my favorite Aggie book! I know, I know, it seems like I say that every time I read one of her books but this one is different I promise! It is the perfect romantasy with so much tension, snark, banter, court intrigue, mystery, and humor that I couldn't put it down. I hung on to every word and literally laughed out loud a lot at the banter between all the characters. I really loved Griffin, the hilarious, sweet, mischievous nephew of Asmo. The gargoyles really got me tickled (I'm not spoiling anything go read it!). They add so much to the story it wouldn't be complete without them.

If you love grumpy enemies-to-lovers, fantasy, court intrigue, banter for days, gargoyles, and other fantasy awesomeness this book is definitely for you! Happy reading!

Wow! I really did not expect that! I thought it was brilliant! A little long winded in places and that’s why I’ve dropped it a star. And I was a little dubious about the stone gargoyles being the keeps staff coming back to life… But gosh what a story!

I loved the whole star crossed lovers, fated mates vibe. I loved the ending, it’s an against all odds, I’ll be a better man for you I swear it… but just not right now. And making people die to get what he wants with just a click of his fingers 🫠

Brilliant! I hope there’s going to be a second book as I’d love to listen to more of Valeria & Asmo’s story!

That ending :o
You can’t just leave me hanging like that! Amanda Aggie is one of my favorite indie authors, and even though this is a separate series, it still takes place in the Realm of Monsters universe which I love. It was giving “he’s a 10, but he’s a demon” and she’s an elf. Also the twist at the end too when led to his actions. I should have seen it coming but I didn’t!
Romantasy lovers, you will love this one. It’s enemies to lovers, and upon first meet she stabs him. Need I say more.
Thank you to the author for the arc!

Rating a 2.5 rounded up.

The premise of this one was intriguing and alluring; it had the potential to be a fabulous story, but I feel that it fell a bit short. While it was a good and interesting read, I wasn't drawn into the story as much as I would have liked. I feel that the pacing was the cause of this issue. The story dragged on until about 65%, and then the pace picked up, not a lot but enough to push me through to the end.

The characters were decently developed, and I enjoyed the world-building and magic system, but overall, I was underwhelmed with it as a whole.

This is a darkly enchanting fantasy romance that drew me in from the very first chapter. Amanda Aggie has created a world full of political intrigue, sharp dialogue, and that delicious enemies-to-lovers tension which makes it impossible to put down.

The heroine’s resilience and quick wit made her an easy character to root for, while the death-wielding villain was wonderfully complex, brooding, dangerous, yet undeniably magnetic. I particularly enjoyed the twist on the “runaway bride” set-up and how the heroine is allowed to grow into her own power rather than simply being used as a pawn in someone else’s game.

Although the pacing felt a touch slow in places and I would have loved even more depth to the world-building, the chemistry between the leads more than made up for it. With its gothic atmosphere, morally grey hero, and sparkling banter, this is a perfect pick for fans of ACOTAR and The Bargainer series.

The magic system, the side characters, the secrets and tragic backstories, utter perfection!! A broody demon cinnamon roll MMC? Always yes.

The romance between Asmo and Valeria is a truly delicious slow burn, with tension and chemistry that had I kicking my feet and audibly yipping.

My first Aggie’s read, and it will not be my last! Imma need book 2 stat!!

Thank you Net Galley and Tantor Audio for this ARC.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. The narrators did a wonderful job. I especially liked the male narrator’s voice. The story itself was very good. I love a good enemies to lovers with some twists thrown in. THE twist at the end was crazy! I didn’t see it coming at all. And then it went and ended on a cliffhanger. I really really need book 2 ASAP!
Thank you to NetGalley, Amanda Aggie, and Tantor Audio for the ALC! All opinions are my own.
