The Whisky Business Mysteries written by Melinda Mullet were highly entertaining a few years ago, and then there were no more books. I was disappointed but pleasantly surprised last fall when I learned a new one would be released. It took me a while to remember all the characters and their backstories, but when it came back, things felt like revisiting a lovely setting filled with great characters. In this mystery, a groups of wannabee distillers take a course, only for one to end up dead. Who had previous connections and a grudge? Toss in some side stories with the locals, and you've got a wonderful cozy mystery with a fun theme and fantastic location. Recommended for fans of pets, liquor stories, past vengeances, and light mysteries.
This is the 5th book in this series, after a long hiatus. I'm so glad they are back! This time, Abby and Grant are offering a Master Class in producing single malt scotch, and on the second day, one of the participants is found dead. But what really happened? How did he end up on the hillside above the village, and who are the two strange men who the villagers think are from the government, looking for those who don't charge or pay VAT on their goods? This book did a good job of reminding you of what has happened in prior books, without hitting you over the head with the information. It also kept me guessing almost to the end. I can't wait for the next one in the series!!
I am very happy that the whisky business mysteries are continuing and that Abi and Grant have finally hooked up. The premise of a whisky distilling masterclass was good and the plot was very complicated, with lots of characters to keep track of. The animals are always fun. But this book wasn't quite as fun as the previous books, especially with Grant being moody and sad. I also thought there were way too many coincidences in the plot so that it was a little hard to believe.
Happy to see these characters again! You'll be able to solve the mystery fairly soon. I thought the part where Abi got caught by the killer was ridiculous and while rolling my eyes, I had to drop this from 4 stars. Also, it was lacking a good proofreader; grammatically, so much of the story made me cringe. However, I'm excited there will be another in this series.
#5 in whiskey murder series set in Scotland, featuring abi, photojournalist and inherited owner of boutique destillery. In number five, Abby and Grant have to solve the murder of one of the pupils in their whiskey master class, which leads to numerous red herrings, too many suspects and of course, the final conclusions a good car drive mystery
I really enjoyed this latest story in the Whisky Business Mysteries series. It may be my favorite, so far. Would have liked to get it in MP3/Audio, since I have the first 4 in that format. Found editing to be lacking, numerous typos. But looking forward to #6.
Great writing, consistent characterisation, lovely world building. Decent mystery.
However, as often happens with cosy mysteries, there is less actual solving of a mystery and more of : events overtake them and the mystery resolved. Which I dislike.
Was sonst, als Melinda Mullets Whisky-Krimi-Reihe könnte mein 100. Buch des Jahres sein? Wie immer überzeugt es mit merkwürdigen Wendungen, Logiklöchern, vielen flauschigen Schafen und torfigem Whisky. Jeder Band ein neues Highlight
