A blind date. A nervous sorority girl. A mean-spirited fraternity prank. What could go wrong?

As a sorority pledge, there are commandments that Katie Vickery must live by. One: thou shalt not show up for the party without a date. Two: the guy shall be an athlete, preferably an upperclassman.

Unfortunately, Katie just broke up with her jerkface football player boyfriend. Even worse, her last encounter with him resulted in utter humiliation. She’d rather hide under the bed than attend a party where he'll be.

Yet staying home would mean letting him win.

Enjoying herself tonight was out of the question. She could only hope to get through the evening without her blind date noticing that he was spending the evening with a crazy person.

Andrew Baschnagel is living proof that nice guys don’t finish first. He’s had his eye on Katie since the moment her long legs waltzed into his art history class. So when her roommate sets Andy up to be Katie’s date, he’d be crazy to say no. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a lot of practice with either girls or parties. Yet.

BLONDE DATE is a 24,000 word novella. ALSO INCLUDED: an exclusive preview of the third novel in the Ivy Years series, THE UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE YEAR.

A blind date. A nervous sorority girl. A mean-spirited fraternity prank. What could possibly go wrong?

Katie and Andy were fantastic! Their novella focused on their first date, which also happened to be a blind date.

Katie is the most beautiful freshman on campus. Andy has noticed her. Andy is a basketball player. Tall, lanky, and not quite Katie's type, but after getting burned by her ex- a football player/frat boy, she's looking for someone different. Someone nice. Andy fits the bill perfectly. I loved how at ease Andy put Katie during their date, and turned something that was hard for her into something fun.

I could have read an entire book about these two, but I'll settle for the novella. I also really loved the epilogue. It was nice to see that side.

Normally I find I don't really connect with novellas this short but I absolutely loved Blonde Date. As much as I enjoyed Katie, the star of this story is Andy. Gah! His sweet adorableness almost overwhelmed me, but what a way to go.

Time for a Hail Mary maneuver. Maybe if I reach down and touch her there. Wait… how do guys do this? My arm is stuck. I can’t get out of my own way. Wait. Okay. Right there. Winning! Yeah!

It's so refreshing to spend some book time with a twentyish year old guy who actually acts like a regular person, insecurities and all. No tattoo sleeves, Dom tendencies or painful past. Just a wonderful character who reminded me of guys I hung out with at that age. Quite the departure from most of the NA I've read lately.

This was the perfect lazy Sunday kind of read and I'm so glad I finally got around to giving it a shot.

Andrew Isaac Baschnagel. Now THAT'S a name of a guy I'm interested in. *Jew Alert*

I've really enjoyed each and every book in this series, especially the to DIE for The Understatement of the Year, which is expertly narrated, BTW, and Blonde Date was another good one. Again, Saskia Maarleveld does a decent job reading, but there is something about her voice that sounds too old for NA to me. Nick Podehl was awesome again as the slightly dorky and awesome Andy.

What impressed me most about this book was the fab sex-positive message (even when you are doubting yourself- every girl has been there!), and the lovely beta hero male MC. I am totally gaga over a beta man, and a Jewish beta man who plays sports?! Now I'm verklempt!

Short, sweet, and well done, I hope we get more stories out of these characters in the future. Awesome again, Sarina Bowen!

A nice little novella featuring a couple of side characters of this series. Really sweet, wish it was smexier, but bonus points for the charming endearing underdog (who is in no way shabby whatsoever) who wins the hot girl!

I don’t read Novellas and if I do I don’t usually write a review on them, but I LOVE Andy and Katie so much I was really happy for this book. I kind of wished it was a full length novel, but I’ll take what I get.

Andy is the dorky nerdy guy that is suite mate with Bridger. I loved Andy because I have an odd attraction towards nerdy guys in books, maybe because I married a nerdy guy and guess what? His name is Andy too, so there you go.

I liked that Katie is the total opposite of Andy and she’s this beautiful bombshell, but is really confused. She has dated really bad guys in the past and she’s trying to correct her situation. I love it when the Heroine is trying to be better.

The little book is about Andy and Katie going out on a date. It’s all around, cute and adorable.

This book is a real treat. I loved it!

Roughly 75 pages of awesome. Beta male, wholly different than what the heroine is looking for but in reality perfect for her. He's shy and a little goofy, she's the high school prom queen with insecurities. He's protective. She's beginning to see why the other guys never worked out for her. All in one date. LOVED! Absolutely a favorite series of mine. So happy, happy, happy that it caught my eye. Oh, and the epilogue...perfection! There are always two sides to every story. No excuse, but there IS another side.

Review originally posted on Mostly YA Lit:

SO. FREAKING. CUTE. We first meet Andy as Bridger’s roommate in The Year We Hid Away, and here, in this novella, we see him fumbling around on a blind date. Despite how short this novella is, it manages to touch on many of Sarina Bowen’s signature themes: family, sexual consent and slut-shaming, feminism and breaking out of cliches. Oh and did I mention that it’s sexy and cute as well?

Sorority Pledge Katie Vickery broke up with her jock boyfriend a couple of weeks ago. When she needs a date to her sorority party, her roommate sets her up with Andy Baschnagel. He is in her Art History class, but he has never been on her radar. Andy jumps at the chance to go on a date with Katie. He's been interested in her since he first saw her in class. Now is his chance to show her that he is the guy she needs in her life.

We met both Katie and Andy in the previous book in The Ivy Years series. She was the popular girl who always had a new boyfriend. Andy was a quiet guy who helped his friend when he needed it. I really liked him.

This novella is about their blind date. I enjoyed the story; but thought the short format didn't do the story any favors. It just seemed too short. On the other hand, the audiobook narration by Nick Podehl and Saskia Maarleveld was outstanding. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

I was pleasantly surprised by this novella and also based on my star-rating you could already tell that this was clearly my favorite story of the series. Starting with the star of this story, which is Andrew, who is both funny and suportive and super-cute and at the same time his cluelessness just makes him that much more appealing. Most importantly though is, that he doesn't have a tragic backstory, he's just a genuinely great guy and I loved him as an individual, as well as together with Katie. I think what surprised me the most was the natural chemistry between them, and how they actually don't need any drama or other distractions to make a great team and create a wonderful story about two nice individuals who together make a fantastic duo. This story was both dynamic and sweet and a must-have for every fangirl that wants to swoon over a guy that doesn't have a torturing past. I would gladly battle with Katie for Andrew. ;)

PERFECTION. THIS is what a novella should be. Maybe I'm being greedy but I really really hope that Andy and Katie get their own full length novel. I loved how awkward and nerdy and shy Andy was. I know that a lot of people like the asshole hero, and sometimes I enjoy it. But for me, characters like Andy are where it's at. He was so freaking genuine and kind. I don't know if I like Bridger or Andy more, honestly I could live in that fire door between their rooms and be set for life. I also loved Katie's attitude, especially about sex. She was a strong heroine and had no problem going after what she wanted. This was an excellent addition to the series and I really hope that we see more of Andy and Katie. I also would really enjoy a novel about Dash, I felt a little bad for him in the epilogue and I think he'd make a great male lead, it'd definitely be interesting to see how he redeems himself.

Katie & Andrew

We meet both Andrew and Katie in the book previous. And you can’t help but want more of Andy he is so freaking sweet and to know he gets the girl he has been crushing on.. LOVED it.

The humor in the books was perfect. I loved that I smiled pretty much nonstop throughout this book.

It’s a must read if you’re going to dig in to this series.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

This was short and sweet and a great listened. Andy and Katie go on their first date. Andy is Bridger’s neighbor and friend. Katie is Scarlett’s roommate. All sorts of surprising developments happen during this date. It’s cute, heartwarming and also sexy. Definitely leaves you wanting more. The audiobook is really good as well. I found the epilogue to be weird because of the narrator but still interesting.

This lady is one heck of a writer. This is a novella so some people don't believe in giving 5 stars to a short book. I have no problem in doing that when the book is this good.

If you have read any of the other "Ivy Year's" books (but you certainly don't need to read the other ones to understand this one), "Blonde Date" is about Andy, Bridger's basketball playing roommate and Katie, who is one of the two Katie's that roomed with Scarlet. Andy is kind of a nerdie, not very worldly, kind soul on the college basketball team who says yes to a blind date invitation from Katie to go to a sorority party. She recently had a very nasty parting of the ways with her football playing, alpha male boyfriend, Dash, and sorority protocol calls for her to have a date who is also an athlete. Katie is "very" worldly and outgoing. On paper it would seem Andy and Katie are a total mismatch but that turns out to be completely false when they really get to know each other on their date.

This book is perfectly written with witty banter, funny situations, some steam and a little pathos when Dash finally realizes what he's lost. And I can't say enough about Andy and Katie, both together and on their own. Just wonderful characters that I hope we get to spend a lot more time with in future books.

Quickie Review-May contain spoilers, so be forewarned upon reading this review

Blonde Date was such a pure delight to read here. I absolutely adored all the sweet moments that build between this couple. I really loved this pair that are implemented here. I just had a blast with how these two work together. It has such a fun set up here. And somehow with it being a novella, its my favorite of the series haha Not sure why, but I just fell so hard for this couple. Loved how together they are for each other and I hope we get to see them in future books to see how their relationship goes. But we have a hero who is a Jew and a basketball player, however the fact that the hero is Jewish made the whole fling idea not applicable if he was loyal to this faith anyway. As the religion is pretty strict on sex before marriage so not sure how I feel about that being implemented. But the romance was super endearing.

I am really enjoying this series! This was a sweet addition even without the depth of the prior books. We met the characters, Andy and Katie, in the previous book, but we got to know them more in this. I hope we get to see more of them!

Es war so so toll! 😍

I rarely use the term "book boyfriend". But when I read this novella, I know that I wanted Andrew Isaac Baschnagel as my book boyfriend!! Gosh, I loved that young man!

Andy first appeared in Bridger & Scarlet's book, The Year We Hid Away. He's Bridger's next door neighbor. He charmed me immediately because he was kind and very helpful to Bridger. Katie Vickery also appeared in the same book, one of Scarlet's roommates, better known as Blondie Katie. I didn't get much of impression from Katie in that book. Everything I knew about her was pretty much superficial.

Let's just say that Andy won my heart completely in this one. I think all of my stars rating are for him. He's just adorable and loveable. I loved Andy's relationship with his older sister (seriously, chapter one alone, where he asks her for clothing advice, totally charming). I loved how Andy tries to find a 'game trick' to help Katie to forget her bad time with her ex. It is witty game!!

And their sex is kinda fun ... I mean, Ms. Bowen wrote two completely different perspectives during the sex and it was making me giggling quite a bit. Andy is more short sentences, cannot really think of much else. While Katie is more poetic.

For example

Andy:
Oh. Oh yeah.
Oh boy.
Yesyesyesyesyes.
More?
Rawr…
Wow. Good. Too good. Red zone, here.
DANGER.
Quick! Picture Mrs. Dunlop’s neck. Warty 5th grade teacher to the rescue!
Okay. I’ve got this. Except… Oh my God. Oh… wow. Just… so sexy. So sexy. I’ve never made anyone moan before. Oh, that sound. Oh, hell. It’s coming, and it’s going to be good.

Katie:
The look on your face
Sweet and intense
Shreds my heart
Now I’m tilting fast
And spinning hard
All of me
Is lost to you

It is kind of unique!!

The story happens pretty much on one night, meaning that Andy and Katie have sex exactly that night after several hours being together. But it doesn't bother me much because the sex happens in the end, after they are connecting, PLUS it's not like these two are declaring love forever and ever afterwards.

One more thing ... Ms. Bowen added a very intriguing epilogue. I wonder if that means that she will write the villain as the hero for the next book (Bella's book) and will it be a story of redemption. Whatever the case, I will be on train for that one.

What a perfect short story. I'm not normally a fan of short stories, but this author is now on my "I'll read just about anything she writes" list and this was just appealed to me.

She blew me away. It was perfect. It had a beginning, a middle and an end and it wasn't all rushed to cram it all in. It was complete, developed and had characters you wanted more of an didn't want it to end. Really loved it.

I could go crazy and tell you tons about it and put my little rating scale together for you too, but then it may be longer than the story and I think it is good enough to just simply say 5 Stars.

It stands alone, so you have no excuse for not reading it. If you haven't read this author, you could start here and get your toes wet. Up to you.

Absolutely perfect.

Happy Reading!

Oh, I was charmed by this romance. I love a kind steadfast hero. He is sexy too. Because guess what? Being thoughtful and attentive is hot and so is really being into someone.

The heroine is grabbling with an awful thing that happened to her and trying to find her way through to herself and she does so in a lovely way.

The romance is super sexy. I feel like rereading it right now.

It’s been a while since I’ve read the two previous Ivy Years books and this story was the perfect way to get back into the series and such a treat.
This adorable little book is about Katie and Andy on their first date.

Andy is a nerdy guy and living proof that nice guys don’t finish first. He doesn’t have a lot of experience with either girls or parties but jumps on the chance of a date with Katie.
Katie is the complete opposite, a beautiful bombshell sorority girl, who has to follow commandments and thus can’t attend a party without an athlete. And she has to attend this one after being utterly humiliated by her jerkface football player ex.

I loved how these two were complete opposites and appeared to be such stereotypes, which they aren’t. Katie wants to better and Andy is not just a nerd but funny and cute, a genuinely great guy.

I would have loved a full length book on these two as their chemistry was great and they could be my favorite couple yet.
