Lynn Okamoto (岡本倫 Okamoto Rin) is a Japanese manga artist and a former employee of Bandai. His most famous work is the series Elfen Lied, which was adapted into a 13-episode anime series by the studio Arms. He lives in Tokyo, Japan.

So close to the end...so close.

Why is it now that the series decided to pile on the story? Like you could have started this clump of disaster in the last volume and instead of making this one super story heavy and dense spread it out and make it easier to digest a bit.

This manga in the series was absolutely fantastic. The character development was incredibly well done, and the plot is still advancing in a manner that is both quick and precise....It keeps you on your toes, wanting to know what will happen next. It's good at grabbing your attention and everything is happening so quickly without leaving you behind at any point. In addition, the artists drawing style is quite detailed, and the way each person and situation is depicted is unparalleled. I'd recommend this to anyone into manga that happened to like genres going along fantasy, hope, and sorrow.

The end is coming near. Thank God...
Lucy is incredible. Like she doesn't care both about humans and diclonii. Just kill kill kill. Only Kouta matters.
Sometimes I think that maybe diclonii race overwhelming human race will be better. Like, it is a cool idea.
We saw only male dinclonius in the manga ( not naked like female ones) and after two panels he is killed by Lucy. Lucy, how can you kill your own brother?
It would be nice if I could somehow care about the characters. I am already spoiled about the ending, so no one really matters...

This was such a dramatic and heartfelt series. I felt so bad for the characters. the author did a really great job pulling at the readers. the series was emotionally charged and action packed.

Synopsis: Lucy is a special breed of human referred to as Diclonius, born with a short pair of horns and invisible telekinetic hands that lands her as a victim of inhumane scientific experimentation by the government. However, once circumstances present her an opportunity to escape, Lucy, corrupted by the confinement and torture, unleashes a torrent of bloodshed as she escapes her captors. During her breakout, she receives a crippling head injury that leaves her with a split personality: someone with the mentality of a harmless child possessing limited speech capacity. In this state of instability, she stumbles upon two college students, Kouta and his cousin Yuka, who unknowingly take an injured fugitive into their care, unaware of her murderous tendencies. This act of kindness will change their lives, as they soon find themselves dragged into the shadowy world of government secrecy and conspiracy.

Review: A horrifically violent, gruesomely sexualized, shocking and depressing series that's further intensified by the horrific acts done to a group of young girls. The things we are forced to watch happen to them is sickening, which makes their bloody vengeance and murderous rampages almost justified, if it wasn't for the ridiculously high body count of innocent civilians and bystanders.

Everyone in this series is an extreme sadist, the type of people that would beat a puppy to death with a glass vase just to spite another person. I admit, the shock value can get tiresome and pointless in certain instances, but from the standpoint of a horror flick, it can be entertaining to see just how much you are able to endure. Reminiscent of old-school slasher movies with excessive splatter and gore. Shock value for the sake of shock value. It can get redundant, but it can also be entertaining if you're looking for simpler entertainment.

There are plenty of flaws in the series as well as very awkward and misplaced moments that drag down the overall serious tone, but it's something I feel happy having experienced. It's a great example of exploring the minds of very tragic and emotionally broken characters. These instances of incredibly sad, memorable and heart-wrenching moments are the saving grace of the series.

Pues ya estamos en la recta final de este manga. Ya solo me queda un tomo y no me puedo imaginar qué va a pasar. Porque en este ha pasado de todo y más. De nuevo, personajes que han aparecido una vez, han desaparecido tal cual vinieron. Además, ni siquiera se han sabido sus nombres 😂😂😂. En fin, no importa mucho, la trama es una maravilla. Hay mucha acción y violencia, avisados estáis, pero tiene un trasfondo que te hace pensar. Vamos a ver qué tal el final, lo estoy deseando.

This was the most interesting and story driven manga in the entire series. This could make up for some of the more lackluster parts of the series. It still contains many instances of unnecessary fan-service (Unnecessary nudity and sexualization of characters), but this gave me the backstory and character development I craved.

I’m invested in the story. I don’t quite understand Lucy’s infatuation with Kouta, perhaps because he was kind to her? It’s probably that. She seems uninterested in her race and her lineage, I assume she could erase her diclonius genes if she is able to. I am eager to read what Kouta does next.

Not bad pero me aburrió bastante. A ver, me gustó porque me gusta la historia pero este volumen se siente como que no aporta nada "nuevo". Es digamos repetir lo mismo metiéndole más diálogos y moviendo alguna que otra pieza hasta lo que es el final de la serie, el siguiente y último tomo.

Oh Lucy, how amazing you were when I was a teenager. Elfen Lied was one of those animes when I was younger that everyone had watched. A time were and of the world genre like Evangelion, X/1999, Ergo Proxy, Appleseed, Blue Submarine, Gunnm, Trigun and so much more reigned supreme in avid manga and anime fans. I loved EL, this may have been my 5th or 6th times reading it. The grotesque psychological trauma the Lucy clones go through as science experiments for the destruction of mankind in order to place the Diicloni as populous of the world.

EL has many themes from social alienation, abuse, jealousy and revenge to identity crisis and the value of humanity or ones self worth. There are many stages and evolution to the story and characters. Although the story is complex, the anime and manga differs at some points, especially on the ending. I strongly recommend the manga over the anime for that reason alone.

Do I recommend it:

Yes, a must for anyone looking for a classic for animes in general, in its era, and its genre.
