OHKUBO Atsushi

Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.

Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.

Don't mind me, I'm just casually re-reading the entire manga for the 5th time or so because A) it's one of my comfort series and I need all the comfort I can get right now, B) I own the entire thing physically so it's right there, and C) everyone is talking about fall/ Halloween reads and SE fits that to a T.

Gonna give all the volumes 5 stars as a default. There's plenty I could complain about if I wanted, namely the unnecessary fanservice/ weird sexualization of teen characters, but I'm not gonna do that right now. It pops up rarely enough that I can just pretend it doesn't exist.

Soul Eater, Vol. 14 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next five chapters (53–57) of the on-going manga series.

While fighting Mosquito, the demon tool Brew that Death the Kid is holding activates, enabling him to hold off Mosquito's attacks before the enemy gets away.

Elsewhere in the castle, Kilik Rung fights alongside Ox Ford with their weapons, and the final two castle locks are destroyed. Arachne attacks Maka Albarn's group with a mental attack, but they soon break through it. Maka Albarn, Soul Evans, and Medusa enter Arachne's inner lair and discover her lifeless body. Mosquito fights with Noah, but is killed quickly, and Death the Kid is sucked into Eibon's book as Liz and Patty Thompson look on in horror.

Outside the castle, Black Star continues his fight with Mifune until he finally defeats him.

This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Atsushi Ōkubo. It continues the infiltration of Baba Yaga's castle – the headquarters for Arachnophobia. Outside, Black Star battles Mifune and finally defeats him. Meanwhile, Ox Ford and Kilik Rung continues their attacks to get further into the castle as the last two locks are broken – only to find the lifeless body of Arachne is found lifeless within.

All in all, Soul Eater, Vol. 14 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.

I'm repeating myself but??
I love all of them? How can you hurt them?!
And why that cover? Did I miss something or did Excalibur never even appear or was referenced in this volume?

The battle between Black Star and the samurai was amazing. As were the battle for all the other characters. The only one that fell short was Maka's. I know she is an amazing technician, and I know that she is capable of many fantastic things. I just thought that the battle between Maka and Arancne (sorry about the spelling) was kinda calm and lacking in the comparison to the others. That seemed too easy. And then there is Medusa... Why won't this witch die???

I've said before that I'm not a huge fan of Black*Star, but wow! The fights in this volume are top-notch. The art style for the messiness of battle is really unique and I loved the way it panned out on each page.

Volume 14 still has us in this damn castle. I was ready for a change of scenery but the action held my attention the entire time. Kid becomes a total badass and comes so close to defeating Mosquito. he's taken out by Eibon though. He also takes Kid and I literally screamed when that happened. I swear, nothing bad better happen to him. He's one of my favorite characters. Elsewhere, a spell is put on Medusa, Soul, and Maka. The art for these scenes were cool and creepy to look at. I definitely felt uncomfortable so I was extra happy when they were able to break from the spell. A lot of other shit happens in this book but I can't remember it all right now. I just know that is was awesome.

Once again I liked this manga. I still don't trust Médusa despite all that I saw in this volume. I can't wait to see what will happen in the next manga because the end is very intriguing. I liked the energy of Black-Star in this manga. I really like him and I hope he will succeed if he is undertaken.

So this was an insane battle between mosquito and free and kid. Mosquito is stupid strong and while free sneaks off to destroy a lock, kid accidently activates brew. Brew helped kid fend of Mosquito.

Elsewhere, ox and kilik fight their way to destroy the final locks so that soul, Maka and Medusa can go confront arachne. However, she's dead. Which was anticlimactic.

Mosquito goes to find out why arachne was left alone and that was due to Noah, who holds the book of ebion. They fight but Noah wins and takes kid with him by taking him prisoner in his book.

Black star finally defeats milfune.

On to the next book.

Ok so a lot in this volume, so is Mosquito supposed to be Dracula and I get part of the reasoning as he is a blood sucker but they abandon the bug theme for bats a little confusing but also disappointed that Kid did not get to finish the fight. Also Eibon is interesting as their is some nice mystery surrounding him. Also the fight with Mifune is really cool and Arachne has some really cool, disturbing imagery.

An epic installment. The battle between Death The Kid and Mosquito concludes in fascinating fashion. As does the monumental confrontation between Black Star and Mifune, during which some of the panels are rendered in a beautiful 'heavy-ink' style. There are some quieter backstory passages and the cute witches Mizune and Eruka make an appearance. I can't wait to see what happens next.

This was so intense! I loved the artwork for the last chapter, it was really good!
The last chapter also made me cry a little bit...I won't say why due to spoilers, but MAN.
My only tiny complaints are that how Maka broke free from the puppet spell wasn't shown, and Excalibur wasn't in this volume at all. Then again, he is calling me a fool on the back cover, so...

A quick and enjoyable read. I do doubt the reasoning behind sending kids into war situations no matter what reasons the story gives.
