I liked the first book, but I was somewhat surprised by the xenophobic politics sprayed all over in several stories of this anthology. Yes, monster stories get to be the ultimate in us-and-them stories, but why the story about Native American terrorists against the "good guy" Viking vampires? I'm not saying that anyone should take retribution as far as the villains in that particular story, ever. But why be so unsympathetic to the anger of the Natives over old pain? It seems to me that such callousness cannot help anything in healing these old wounds.

*Won in a Goodreads Giveaway : ) In this issue of Vwars we open with the kidnapping of reporter Yuki Nitobe by the Vampires. They are holding her captive in hopes to use her to tell their side of the story. The government is viewing the vampires as terrorists, but Yuki sees first hand a different side of these vampires. Her views are not far off from that of Luther Swann the, Ph.D writer and consultant that we met in the first issue. During her captivity she sees things that the government is hiding from the civilians. Most of the vampires have control, and do not appear to be a danger; they just want to be left alone to live their lives just like everyone else. However a war between the humans and the Vampires is happening. Both sides are getting killed. Can Luther and Yuki team up to help bring about the peace?
First and foremost I want to say I am loving the artwork in this series. Jay Fotos is indeed talented, and from here on out I am a huge fan. Also the covers that Ryan Brown did for this series... totally awesome!!! The story is not what I expected but that is a good thing because it has such an originality. It's not like typical vampires stories you might read. Maberry brings complexity, and things are not just black and white, there are many shades of grey. It appears the non infected are acting out of fear of what they do not understand. The Vampires that aren't breaking the law and killing just want to be accepted and left alone, the non infected just aren't sure if these “creatures” can be trusted. I am rating this five out of five stars. Also I just want to say I'm loving the intercepts of the prose novel in the back of the comic. Super cool.
So far the best vampire graphics novel I have read! The story line keeps you wanting more, the graphics are very well done. Anxiously waiting for the next segment.
This issue focuses on the journalist we have seen through out the series Yuki Nitobe and why she begins to speak out on behalf of the Vampires. The depth is starting to appear as we get more insights into the characters.
