This book is a revelation .... brilliant!

Turning that fairy-tale/textbook story of 'America' completely on its head, this almost performative rendition of at least some of the 'half never told' enlightens and entertains, making the fundamental contradictions at the heart of American 'nationalism' plain to see.

The black experience as constitutive of American identity, culture & economy, yet ridiculed, reviled, relegated to racist retellings through minstrel shows and Gone With the Wind ...
