Being a fan of time travel stories, I’ve been looking forward to listening to the audio book version of Michael Bunker’s short story, “The Santa Anna Gold,” ever since I heard it was coming out. I read it in the anthology Synchronic a few years ago, and was just so-so in my feelings towards it, but times change (I had to use the phrase since this IS a time travel story).
Perhaps, at least for me, the way this story is told comes across better when someone is spinning this particular yarn into your ear, as if you’re sitting around a campfire at night with a bunch of friends. The narrator did a great job bringing “The Santa Anna Gold” to life, making you feel like you are part of the story.
No doubt Bunker is one of the most talented writers in today’s crowded field, and if you haven’t read any of his fiction yet, you’re in for lots of fun.

A fun little story with a twist I didn't see coming. I wasn't too keen on the narration at first, but it smoothed out after a couple minutes and I enjoyed it.

Michael Bunker's oh-too-short story is recounted as if by the father of a boy who goes missing after they decide to search out the truth of the legend of the Santa Anna gold for themselves by actively seeking to find the supposedly undiscovered buried treasure. Trouble is, to do this they have, somehow, to go back in time. Does the son find it or is it all in the father's imagination?
Beautifully crafted, the tale is perfectly enhanced by the narration of Alex Silver. His deliciously (Texan?) accented voice gently reminisces about how they went about their search and how it ended. The performance is intimate, as if the listener is sitting near to the older man as he recalls the memory of that time.A delightful book definitely recommended.

A story of a father and a son, and what a father will do to see his son's dreams come true.
This is an awesome time travel story by probably one of the best authors in the business, Michael Bunker. If you have never read any of his works here would be a great place to start. This story was made even better as a audio narrated by Alex Silver. Between the writing and the narrating I felt as though I was there and could see everything happening as though I was part of it. And that is really cool of any book.

I love time travel stories and this one is terrific! I just finished listening to the audio version read by Alex Silver. Alex catches just the right tone of this Bunker story... Alex playes the part of a man trying to help out his son who believes that he can travel through time... To find out how this story unfolds you'll want to get the eBook or better yet the audible version for your library, and see what you think! Just finished Santa Anna Gold by Michael Bunker. A brief but enjoyable time travel story that revolves around a father attempting to help so go back in time to find said gold.
While the story was written as an entry in time travel anthology "Synchronic" it is available for solo purchase.
This story was very enjoyable. Part history lesson part science - fiction and a nice little twist ending.

There's something about the way the story unfolds that reminds me of Catcher in the Rye. Initially I thought the 'Waltons-style' homey narrative was cluing me in to a late 19th / early 20th Century setting... but perhaps that was intentional.

This was a cool little short story with a unique take on time travel. It was a fun read, as most of Bunker's work is, and well worth the sale price!
