It’s a contest only Jax and his fraternity brothers are playing. Whoever scores the most points wins the game.
Kimber’s a feisty young woman enjoying life. No plans for finding Mr. Right. Not when Mr. All Wrong left her in a world of deceit and crushed her spirit.
Jax is the epitome of men. His striking good looks turn heads. Lots of them. He walks past Kimber in a cloud of sex and arrogance, and he’s slowly dragging her in to his perimeters.
This wasn’t a part of Kimber’s strategy—she hadn’t planned on him and struggles to pull back, away from his striking distance, the kiss of death.
It’s a game of command and docility. He’s gaining control. She’s falling prey.
When stakes are high and Jax is at the top, will he let it all go for Kimber? Because choosing Kimber will end his game and he’ll certainly fail if he drops out now. And if he backs out, will Kimber still want him when she learns the dirty little fraternity secret?

I really dislike writing reviews where I'm not sure where to start. NOT because it's a bad book either, but because there is so much information that my brain just stops. That's how it is with The Next Contestant by Dani Evans. I'm going to start by saying that this is not a type of book I've read before. Sure, it's a college setting new adult romance, yeah, I've read that, but the actual contest running within this book? The obstacles that the characters go up against and how they handle them? No. So in that regard, this book is completely angst ridden while being diabolically evil in the sense that you're gaping at it going 'Oh my God, he did not!" and yet you're still wanting to turn the next page to see what happens.
I want to stop myself now and note that this book does have an HEA, there were times reading it when I did not think that was going to happen, or I thought there would be a cliffhanger. At parts of it, I actually didn't know or couldn't even guess how the characters were going to get past certain events. On the note of telling you the technical bits, I'll just finish off with it is a standalone novel, and it's told from dual first person POVs between the two main characters. I wish it was a series because I do want to know what happens to the co-stars, and there were a lot of them.
As for the main characters. Jax is so cocky, however, I can't help but like him, a lot. He's hot, he's got alpha male written all over him. What I did like about him was it felt as if he grew throughout the book. Kimber, on the other hand, is no nonsense, she's not in the market for a guy in her life and usually the ones she does like, her older brother runs off. Kimber and Jax have extreme instant attraction, but it's not the typical instant attraction because they don't act on it. Kimber is a mystery to Jax for awhile, he doesn't know her name, but he knows her face. Alternatively, she knows exactly who he is and avoids him, even though she's thinks he's insanely hot.
These two go head to head, but there are a lot of secrets, there is intrigue, they do things that actually cause the drama between them. They fight, they play games with each other that will have you wanting to bash them over the heads and tell them it's not high school, but over all, if you're like me, you'll want to keep flipping the pages.
The writing is well done, there was only one part in the book that I couldn't even figure out why it was there and it sort of lost me, hence the four star rating. Had I not been lost on that, I'd have been a definite five star. Overall, I liked this book, it was entertaining and flat out though evoking. I'm not sure what I'd have done in the characters situations. Give it a shot!
3.5 This was actually pretty good. The characters and dialogue were sometimes immature and cheesy. I thought it was gross that the guys in the fraternity didn't get reprimand enough for that disgusting bet. It was still a sweet and sexy read.

So.... I just finished this book and I really enjoyed it! Which is good because I needed a pick me up! This was a light, easy, hot & sexy good read. It did have some drama of course, but who doesn't like drama?
Kimber is in college, living the single life with her friends. She's in dance, and doing what she loves. The only problem? The one guy she likes, takes an oath to stay away from her. So what does she do? She comes up with a plan to get close to him with out him really knowing who she is.
Jax Nash is the hot, rich, college soccer player every girl dreams about. But, he's not only a player on the soccer field, he is definitely a ladies man. Until he meets Kimber...the one girl he is supposed to stay away from in order to stay in his college fraternity. The thing is... he doesn't know that he is falling for Kimber because he knows her as Timber!
From the beginning of their relationship, if that's what you want to call it, Kimber doesn't tell Jax her real name. They start hanging out and start to really like each other.Due to the one secret that Kimber is holding, things between them become harder and harder. Secrets start to come out sending their relationship down a bumpy road. I really liked Jax. He definitely is a heart stopper with that smile of his. And those eyes? To die for! He is seriously hot, and makes me want to go back to college so I can have moments like those! LOL!
This story is full of jealousy, love, secrets, betrayal and sex! All good ingrediants to make a great book. I would love to read about Kimber's brother Kolby, although he seemed like kind of a douche in this book, maybe he will make up for it in his own book?
I did wish that Jax and Kimber stood up for their love a lot sooner in the story so that we could of read more about them being in an actual relationship amongst their friends. I am hopeful they will make appearances in any up coming books. There were a couple of times that I wanted to yell at Kimber to get over herself when it came to her thinking that Jax "didn't like her" or "he isn't fighting for me" but eventually she did! If your looking for a light and sexy read, this book if for you! I can't wait to read more about these characters! Definitely looking forward to reading more from Dani Evans.
4.5 out of 5 stars This read has one of the most interesting story line out there. Love, drama, lies and betrayals, you will not be able to put it down. Oh what a tangle web we weave. When a lie is not the way to start a relationship but Kimber finds no other way to get a chance with the super hot and sexy new member at her brothers frat house. She has to change her identity and not let Jax know who she really is because her brother,Kolby, has placed an oath with his frat brothers that dating another brother's sister is off limits. The last time Kimber dated an ex-frat, it went really bad, also most to the point that she was hospitalized. But is it to protect Kimber from a broken heart or to hide the truth that lies between the brothers of what really is going on behind the private door? kolby has no choice than to change schools and attend his dad's alumni or his dad will cut him off and force Kolby to gets job which would interfere with his true love of playing soccer. Jax even joined his dad's old fraternity to please him. Knowing that dating the president,Kolby's sister is off limits or else, Jax stays clear of her even though he doesn't even know what she looks like. If Kolby finds out that Jax is really dating his sister it could get him kick out of the fraternity, off the soccer team and lose all his dad's support. What happens when Kimber learns what her brother and his brothers are doing behind the private door above the club? When all the lies are reviled, will Jax and Kimber get out on top and find the truth to why the lies started in the first place.
I enjoyed reading the Next Contestant! It is a hot and steamy read with a bit of drama and angst added to the mix. The story takes place during the college years around Kimber and Jax. Additional characters are introduced and anticipated to be in future books by Dani Evans.
Kimber is loving life in college and enjoying dance with all of her childhood girlfriends. Life couldn’t get much better; that is until she sees Him. He is her brother’s new soccer teammate and frat brother. Her brother is extremely overprotective of her. What is a girl to do? She comes up with a plan to throw her brother off on his suspicions in order to date Jax. Jax is the gorgeous, privileged player. He plays soccer and women with the same fierceness; that is until he sees Her. There is something about Kimber that grabs a hold of him and will not let him go. He quickly learns that his plays will not work with her. Jax changes his ways in order to be with Kimber.
In a sense, Jax and Kimber are playing a game, but a game much different than what Jax is used to playing. They both have secrets. Secrets that lead to lies, deception, jealousy and insecurity. Can a relationship overcome all of this as well as the fallout of an over protective brother?
I highly recommend The Next Contestant! The twists and turns of the plot and the magnetic draw between Jax & Kimber will keep you engrossed in the story.
Wow, this book was amazeballs!! All the characters were great. There are quiet a bit a supporting characters in this story and they were awesome.
Kimber is in college and her brother Kolby goes to a different college. Kolby makes all his frat brothers take an oath that Kimber is off limits. Jax transfers into Kolby's college and joins his frat. Jax is book boyfriend materiel. Jax oozes sexiness. Kimber likes Jax but if he knows she is Kobly's sister he won't date her. So, Kimber says she is Timber. Timber is Kolby's ex. She shows up and causes ton of problems for Kimber and Kolby.
Kolby's frat also has a game going on where they are earn points for getting girls to do sexual acts. Jax takes part in this games too, which may come back to hurt his relationship with Kimber. I have read book that have the game element in them but this one was different. The game parts where very thought out and the details of how the guys earned points was clearly spelled out. Although I didn't like the whole game, it was very well written.
The Next Contestant pulled me in from the beginning in keep my interested the whole time. This is a definite one click. I hope so of the other characters get their own book, I would definitely read them too.
Jax and Kimber deliver hormones and passion. Jax is your typical hot, studly, rich, frat boy player. And when I say, play, the dude really plays, as in a high stakes game of lust.
He's on track to win, win, win, when he spies Kimber, a girl with a wounded past. Jax wants Kimber, plain and simple, but he knows he has to quit his game. Problem is? Kimber's overprotective big brother knows what a player Jax is and no, he wouldn't want to inflict the likes of Jax on anyone he cares about, least of all his darling sister.
Jax and Kimber go undercover, in more ways than one. But lust turns to like, and like turns to obsessive love. Can he be sure of her? Can she trust him with her heart?
Kimber puts Jax through the wringer with daring stunts, enough that this reader screams, Enough! Her last one is a doozer, and leaves Jax no choice but to show her in no uncertain terms that SHE belongs to HIM.
Highly recommended if you're into young love and all the angst!
I also loved the cast of characters in the frat and the dance troupe. I know there will be lots of upcoming stories to shock and surprise us.
And hey, hey, shoutout for the Asian guy, Jaden Sloup (adopted) big, tall, Korean born goalie! whoop, whoop!
ahh young love.... YOUNG love...not the high school virginal puppy love, but the college raging hormones dirty and raw love!!! The Next Contestant is full of secrets, love, jealousy, games, lies, sex and drama! What's not to love? Not a complicated plot but an entertaining book for sure! The characters were developed very well. It was if I knew them personally. I couldn't help but long for a revenge against the frat when their 'secret lair' was exposed and I really wanted a reappearance from Devin, the jack*** from the very beginning of the book. Although those things never came, the book still flowed well. This is a stand alone without a cliffy. It does give a glimpse of books to come. Who knows, maybe the things I felt The N.C. lacked will be fulfilled in the next installments. This was a very fun read that brought back the memories of being drunk in love: the overwhelming lust and desire that took control over all thoughts and actions no matter what the consequences. I don't know where Dani has been hiding but i'm very anxious to see more from her in the near future!
Jax is the hot, soccer goal of his college. He is playing a game that he intends on winning. When he spots Kimber, he knows she's not going to be part of his game. Kimber has been hurt bad in the past, but she's ready to move on and Jax is just the guy. Things get complicated for them off the bat and Kimber is keeping something from him and the lie's just keep piling up. When Jax's discover's her lie he is hurt and is put in a position he can't get out of. Kimber knows it's her fault but ends up being bitchy over the whole thing. Jax is the one that is always breaking down and coming to Kimber even know she is the one who is in the wrong. Kimber then finds out about the game and is questioning if she was apart of the whole thing. There are a lot of assumptions made by both of them that causes all kinds of unnecessary hurt. Things eventually get cleared up but can they forgive each other and be together? Some hot, juicy, steamy sex. Fabulous ending. Looking forward to more books in this series.
First things first, the moment when you discover what the title is about is actually a pretty funny moment! :-)
This book is such a clusterf*ck of neverending misunderstandings, yet it stirs up such so many emotions! I thinks I never screamed at my kindle so much!
Kimber is such a confusing young woman, will her having two identities lead her to a path of irreverisble lies? Why does she even have two identities? You are going to have to figure that out for yourself! ;-)
Sigh, dear old Jax is the biggest manwhore on the planet yet when he meets Kimber he is the sweetest and most passionate guy ever! I actually felt sorry for him with all that was going on.
I felt that the book had a semi open ending (no cliffy!) so who know what could happen in the future? :)

Jax Nash...holy hotness! what starts of as a secret game between frat brothers trying to score points comes to a halt for Jax when he finally scores with the one that's off limits. The frat brothers are not the only ones hiding secrets though. kimber has a toi and she's finding it harder and harder to not let the truth come out. I really enjoyed this book. Every chapter I read I kept thinking "Is this when everything will be spilled?"
I really liked this book. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was due to lack of character development. I loved Jax and Kimber, but felt like I missed the deep and meaningful conversations. You know, to make them fall harder for each other. From the very beginning they were in lust, then it moved to deeper feelings for each other without meaningly conversations. Everything else was perfect, and I'm looking to reading the other books in the series!
Holy flippin' hotness, Ms. Evans! This book was steeeamy! The storyline was so captivating that I had a hard time putting my kindle down. I was so hooked I read even though I had a headache that had been bothering me for a few days. I can't wait to read the "Next" installment.
Follow the UC Berkley soccer team/Kappa Alpha Omega fraternity in their crazy shemes, fun, parties, and games. What happens when Jax, transfer soccer star falls for the President's "off limits" sister or is it just a game? Will Kimber fall for Jax? Will she play the game better than he does? Will her big brother find out about them? Find out in this must read book
Received as an ARC for honest review. I don't normally read new adults/college students books. But this one was a shocker! It was a little slow to start but it kept my attention all the way to the end! I won't give away the ending. But where can I find my own Jac Nash! The 30 plus version lol!!!
Didn't want to put it down. And Nash is now my new book boyfriend. This was intense, I went from happy to sad to biting my nails. Some parts were funny to the point that my husband caught me laughing out loud, while in a room totally alone with my Kindle. Loved it
I wanted so bad to like this book. the storyline sounded promising, it was new adult, characters raised my interest.....but sadly......it crashed and burned in a very big way.
how do we as readers expect two characters in a romance novel to fall in love when they do not have one meaningful conversation throughout the entire book. I kid you not. I am not making this up. I checked it out before writing this. NOT ONE conversation about past or present, hopes or dreams, likes or dislikes......nothing. the deepest it got was mentioning the hero's brother dying. that is it.
the whole book was in their heads playing BS games to make each other jealous. him pretending to date someone else so not to get kicked out of the fraternity. secretly sorta seeing each other. lying. screaming. walking away. cat and mousing. rubbing upon someone else and not each other. so I asked over and over....do people fall in love with pretty hair, faces, hard soccer bodies, and T and A, enough that you see a future with them. please, I'm not that gullible.
then there's this bet.....pathetic. disgusting. dirty. NO WAY would I be expected to forgive my big brother or my wannabe bed buddy or boyfriend....whatever.....for being a part of something like that. but the bitch I am would have held that over their heads TIL THEIR DYING DAY. it just got swept away. the money got donated to the hero's brother's cancer foundation.....no harm..no foul....all for a good cause......because they got caught, otherwise dear old brother was going to take the prize. and this chick watched the tapes.
every character in this book was beyond likeable or redemption from the get go. nothing and I mean NOTHING builds character, shows inner strength, depicts an underlying decent human being, or someone you would even want to know in real life. that's what makes characters relatable for me. would I want to know this person. in this case....not even for a meet and greet unless I had bleach and Lysol to wash away the skank of everyone they ground on, rubbed on, touched, licked, sucked.....you get it.
these characters, to be rich college students, I guess raised by decent parents (we don't know this because again no character development) were so low class mentally that it was a travesty.
it may be a free book, and there may be 5 and 4 star reviews, but I cannot fathom where they pulled those stars from. the only reason I would tell you to read this is so that the next book you read will be appreciated for cleansing your reading pallet. I've read many disappointing and bad books that makes me see other books in a whole new light and not be so hard on other reviews because the one before it was such a step DOWN from bad that the book following could be a best seller 5 star read even if it was just decent. I immediately started my next hopeful good read, and trust me, though not really great, it's at least 4 stars better.

The Next Contestant wasn’t what I initially expected when I read the synopsis. Instead it was a hot, sexy and overall a sweet read. The story is mainly told from Kimber’s prospective though is told in dual POV which I feel helped the flow of the book.
When Jax Nash, the hot, rich, player comes on the scene I expected a player but more of a cocky, selfish kind of fellow. Don’t get me wrong Jax does have his moments but once he sets his eyes on Kimber, he turns into less player and more, sweet, romantic, boyfriend material.
Kimber has an overly protective brother Kolby. After Kimber’s ex Dean, who also attended the same fraternity as Kolby gets kicked out for using steroids. Dean blames Kimber for ratting him out and goes looking for revenge. One night Kimber runs into Dean who stabs her in the stomach. Kolby then puts a vow in place that no frat brothers can date his sister.
The overall story pretty much revolves around a certain bet set up by Kolby. The frat boys must take a different girl to the “Private Rooms” and once in there, seduce them into telling the guy what she wants him to do to her. The more the girl asks to for the more the points the guy gets. The brother with the most points at the end of the season wins!! What the girls don’t know is the rooms are set up with cameras and audio to record the scores.
Jax is in on the bet and is all up for winning until he sees Kimber. With their instant attraction and not knowing Kimber is Kolby’s sister and completely off limits. Kimber uses this to her advantage. Not willing to risk losing Jax before she has a chance to have him, she tells him her name is Timber (which happens to be Kolby’s ex girlfriends name) and that Kolby is in fact her ex boyfriend. The lies begin to build and the more time she spends with Jax the more she starts to fall for him. They're both keeping a secret, but will they be able to forgive each other? Will love conquer all?
The book is packed with angst, never ending misunderstandings and heartfelt confessions. I really enjoyed it and was pleasantly surprised. At the end of the book the author hints that there will be more to come. Either; Kolby and Sandy, Vincenzo and Tiffany or even more Jax and Kimber.I look forward to reading more from this author.
Holy mother of hotness, what a wild, HOT ride! Yeah I kinda emphasized on hot, didn't I? Well be warned, if you aren't a fan of very hot, explicit romances then this one is not for you. If you ARE a fan, well, then The Next Contestant is right up your alley.
Debut author Dani Evans pens a novel of scorching sex, emotions at stake and an attraction that sizzles from the first moment Jax and Kimber meet. But see, it's a game and there's so much more to lose, or is it more to win?
There's so much more than sex to the book though, there's definitely a layer of good story to go along with it that kept me on my toes. Secrets, lies, two broken people putting on a facade as they give into their desires...I really liked Kimber's character. She's gone through hell, but she's strong, feisty and doesn't take crap easily. Jax intrigued me from the start, even when his playboy ways outshines his true self, but he was a fun character to watch grow throughout the story.
I received and ARC for an honest review. The story was great. Started off a little slow but once Jax came in the picture it kept my attention throughout the whole book. Jax Nash, wow. He is the perfect rich college guy. A little slutty at first but what hot rich guy isn't? Haha. But once he sees Kimber she is all he can think about and the only once he wants. Of course she has the very overprotective brother but he got on my nerves after a while. Come on Kolby, she's a grown woman for crying out loud! He finally sees what a jerk he he's been and gives his blessings but it's almost too late. I love a little fight between a couple but Kimber about drove me insane with the whole "he betrayed me", "he doesn't like me", and "he isn't trying hard enough to keep me". Just get over yourself and take your prize of a man already :) So if you like drama and a good love story this is the book for you. Enjoy!
Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we.... Yeah you know how it goes. But that is the extreme Kimber has to go to in order to date one of her brothers Fraternity brothers. But the lie bites in the end when the one she deceived, Jax figures it out. Now they are trapped in a lie that she stated and all because her brother is overly protective of his sister. But boy does it make for some awesome book reading drama! Kimebr and Jax scorch the pages with their sexual tension and then with the actual hotness that they exude when they finally do become what they have wanted for so long. Sneaking around can be exciting until you get caught! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and totally fell for Schmexy Jax and his bad boy reformed ways! I can't wait to see what happens next!?! Who will we see.... Me I vote for more Jax and Kimber but hey I may be partial!

This book is full of angst, emotions, sex and romance.
A good book then lol, it was a good read and the characters were easy to love. A well written read and plot was easy going as well, you were able to follow without any issues.
This is a debut book by this author and I would like to see what she comes up with next.
