Oh man. This book was AWFUL! ❌

The heroine was annoying. The hero was a jerk. The story was dumb. And children from a previous marriage? No thank you.

The summary mentioned nothing of the hero being divorced and having a son. Also, the hero was such a douche bag throughout the book! I thought he was brooding and it would get better but I was wrong. He makes her stay in a “menstrual tent” while on her period. Then when she is off her period he tells her to “satisfy his sexual needs.” Then at one point he grabs her by the wrists throws her down and tells her to get out and leave. SHE ends up coming back and he is like yeahhhhhhhhh sorry about that. Also, the ex wife shows up with another secret child she kept hidden and dumps them off with couple during the last 5 pages. Wtf?!?!

I don't think I've ever seen so many exclamation marks in a book. It put too much of an emphasis on way too many underwhelming things. I can't believe that this would be published, let alone be part of a series. I don't like having to be mean but I have to be honest. The quality of writing was just terrible. It was like reading something a 13 year-old wrote. It was messy, the characters' emotions were erratic and their personalities--well, they didn't seem to have set personalities.

None of the characters were likable. The heroine came off as dense and ignorant, putting up with the stupid emotional fits of the hero which were akin to the emotional roller coaster of someone just going through puberty. The heroine brushes off the fact the hero rudely and heartlessly threw her out of his village without an explanation or reason nor does he ever really apologize for it or try to explain what was going through his head to make him act so heartlessly nor does the hero ever apologize to her brother for being responsible for the scar across the brother's face when her brother, wrongfully accused of the crimes his mother (yes, he was being mixed up with a woman) was committing, never did anything hurtful to the hero's tribe. The brother was only looking for he and the heroine's mother so that means that the hero at some point just outright attacked the brother. Not out of self defense but only because the brother was at the wrong place at the wrong time and the hero thought he was the wanted person who attacked his village, killing all his people. Is the hero really dumb or does he not realize that when he was a young boy (of eight, I think) that the brother would not have been old enough to be a leader of a gang?

Like I said, badly written, not thought out, and I wonder if the writer had anything pre-planned or just winged it the whole time. This has got to be one of the worst books I've ever read and I'm surprised I made it to the end. I found myself cringing so many times and resisted smacking my forehead on several occasions.

Pretty good going for the most part, except for when

Otherwise though, I've have to say that this story was pretty good. Not as good as Savage Passions in my opinion, but the author definitely stayed true to her title--there were definitely some Savage Secrets in this book, with a bit of a turn at the end in terms of who the real villain was all along. (Although, again, this is pretty quickly done, and I felt could have been dragged out a bit more in order to make it believable and more touching, whether for good or for bad.)

All in all, still a pretty good read though, and something that I could see myself re-reading, albeit just skipping that one little part that lost it a star. Yep, that's about it.
