SPACE PEW PEW is a story about friendship, loyalty, and camaraderie set in the unforgiving expanse of the universe!
Alex (a charming, underachieving smuggler) and his best buddy Toshiro (a sarcastic android) piss off a Euclidian arms dealer and end up as major players in an intergalactic war! There's oodles of laughs, plenty of violence, loads of pop-culture references all wrapped in a story with epic characters, a ton of hilarity, and a lot of heart! If you love movies or shows like Firefly, The Fifth Element, Guardians of the Galaxy, Galaxy Quest or Spaceballs, SPACE PEW PEW is for you!
"David Badurina has entered the chat when it comes to epic space adventures with comedic flare, rapid fire sarcasm, masterfully satirical pop culture references, quirky and flawed characters, and a tremendous amount of heart... Even if they're a bucket of bolts." -Author J.L. Engel
"This book was an absolute blast from the start. The witty dialogue, hilarious references, and constant snark provide a great palate cleansing from the serious note most Sci-fi and fantasy takes." -Author Jesse James Fain
"Space Pew Pew is easily one of the most hilariously funny books I've ever read. There are whole chapters that will leave you in stitches. But, it's so much more than that. It is genuinely a great time, filled with memorable characters and lots and lots of fun space adventuring and irreverent laughs." -Author Philip K. Booker
Um, so...THIS WAS FREAKING AWESOME! David Badurina did something special with this book. This book is ridiculously funny, with one liners and banter that had me laughing out loud, something I never do when reading books! But at the same time he built a world and developed a cast of characters that had so much depth that I was engrossed in the world, the story, and the characters that I was so saddened when my time with them came to an end. I love Alex, Toshiro, Andromeda, and Leopold. If you love Firefly, or Han Solo and Chewbacca...you will adore this book. I laughed, I cried, I cheered, and I sighed. This book is being slept on and needs to have more attention on it. Excellent read, David Badurina is an auto buy author for me now! READ THIS BOOK!!!
David Badurina has entered the chat when it comes to epic space adventures with comedic flare, rapid fire sarcasm, masterfully satirical pop culture references, quirky, flawed characters and a tremendous amount of heart... Even if they're a bucket of bolts.
That's not to mention the hard hitting action and no holds barred adult level content. Space Balls was an influence to Badurina, and if it were dialed back to be less slapstick and rated R, it would want to be Space Pew Pew. In reality, I'd compare SPP more to Guardians of the Galaxy or The Fifth Element, both wild in concept, heavy on the snark and absurdity, delivering all the feels. It must be a part of the Great Filament that these MF'rs all exist to present a damn good time.
I LAWLed and OMG'd countless times throughout this hilarious adventure. The sarcasm, quips, and pop culture references explode in your face as if you've wandered into a literary field of gut-busting landmines. Pick your poison - hopefully it won't grow you a second rectum - from rap lyrics, doctor choices, 20-21st generational linguistics and lazy mating rituals. The fun doesn't stop and it kept me turning the pages late into the night.
As mentioned, the heart in this story is grounded with excellently depicted characters; all relatable (mushroom headed mad scientist's included) and run through a gamut of emotions. It's clear Badurina has been through some sh*t, and understand the human condition, taking the reader on a rollercoaster of a buddy-comedy space adventure that will have you ROTFL and on the edge of your seat.
The list goes on, and Space Pew Pew has it all! This is going to be a tough read to beat for 2025. I can't recommend this enough. If it were a movie, I'd be going to see it again... Immediately. I very well may read it again. I've been waiting for a book like that, and it finally found me. (Now I need my dream girl to do the same... Minus the rail-gun shot to the head... Maybe.)
Remember a time when stories had relatable heroes, sinister villains, and sidekicks that you cared about? I do, and I am glad that the author of Space Pew Pew, David Badurina, does too. Space Pew Pew is a great read. A clever weave of humour and adventure that takes you on a journey with some wild and interesting characters across a Galaxy that has literally been built from the fragments of everything that has come before. The stakes are real, and the pace reminds me of a classic 80's Saturday afternoon TV series where I would be gripped by scintillating action and cliff hangers. The creative genius of one particular chapter will amaze you. When was the last time you found a classic rhyming childs favourite book genre meeting old school hip hop?
A headlong dash from start to finish, the book's full of snarky humour and wonderfully pulpy sci-fi.
My favourite bits were the many arguments between Alex and the robot, Toshiro, especially when the latter engages full-on rant mode. In particular, I was tickled by the description of Monopoly, the board game, as: theft and oppression under an iron-fisted dictatorship.
Space Pew Pew is a literary sci-fi spoof, but one that's done with the framework of an actual story in mind. By the end you feel your investment in these characters has been worth it, and towards the very end the stakes feel entirely real. I can say for certain I've come out of this story with distinct pictures of each character and the role that they play. That is not something you can say for every story you come across. Bobnog Cognog, as they say.
This is an enjoyable read. The title is appropriate and gives a sense of the tongue in cheek humor and silliness throughout. I could do with fewer pop culture references and a bit more clever set ups for the jokes, but overall its well worth reading.
Great read. I'm looking forward to more of the series. Toshiro cracks me up with his Dr Dre slang. I'm trying to picture how they're going to save Andromeda.
