Rate this book
The author of Risky Game returns with a football team owner who’s a real player, and the woman who’s ready to call him out on everything...

Dot-com millionaire Jay McManus is discovering that owning a pro football team like the Baltimore Blaze isn’t easy. An anonymous blogger is out to destroy his reputation, and now his team is being sued by its own cheerleaders. If Jay’s not careful, he could lose big—and not just financially.

Bridgett Janik’s brother may play for the Baltimore Blaze, but she’s not thrilled to be defending Jay McManus, the man who broke her heart. It’s bad enough she has to mingle with Jay during games, but working beside her former lover may be too much for her body—and her heart—to resist.

Jay’s determined not to let Bridgett slip away from him a second time. But, as the two follow the mysterious blogger’s trail, secrets—both past and present—are revealed, and Jay and Bridgett must decide if their relationship can be something more than just sleeping with the enemy.

Tracy Solheim writes books with shirtless men on the cover. Some of them are actually best-sellers. The books, not the men. When she's not writing, she's practicing her curling. . . bottles of wine, that is. She's been known to cook dinner but no more than two nights in a row. Most days, she'd rather be reading, which to her is just necessary research. She lives in the suburbs of Atlanta with her husband and a neurotic Labrador retriever. Her two adult children visit but not often enough. (See the note above about cooking.) Sign up for her newsletter at https://www.tracysolheim.com/ to see what she’s up to. She'll send you a free cookbook from her Chances Inlet series as a thank you!

Did someone say football? Oh, I'm such a sucker for football in my romance books. So choosing to read/review this one was an easy choice.

I haven't read the rest of the series, something I need to change. But I had no issue reading this as a stand alone. Knowing the other couples would have been nice but not necessary.

Now, let me tell you about the brilliance that is the book. It's a second chance story. These two met right out of college in Italy one summer and fell in love. It's not clear what happened at first but they both clearly blame the other for the end of the relationship. And here is the brilliance - I've read a lot of miscommunication and misunderstanding kinda stories and they all seem weak to me. But this one...this one is pure brilliance. This one has some depth. This one has some real reasons why there was miscommunication and misunderstanding. This one has me loving both of these characters and feeling the pain they both went through. This one makes sense.

And these characters...love them. Both were devastated by the loss of the other. They both dealt with it in different ways but when they meet up again, it's clear the chemistry is still there. Jay thinks a purely physical relationship can work. Bridgett is trying to protect her heart again. So she resists. And Jay chases. And it's so fun because Bridgett cannot resist him once his hands are on her even at 30,000 feet.

More than romance, this story has a great plot with lots of depth. There are subplots and intertwined plots. They all get nicely tied up at the end. I loved that.

I loved the writing. It goes back and forth between the two main characters POV but it's third person. I don't normally like third person but this was great. I felt connected with the characters and happy.

I read this mostly in a day. I had looked at it a little the day before but when I sat down to read, I didn't stop till I was done. I didn't want to stop. And now I want to read the rest of the series.

Such great romance, with great characters, great story and steamy romance. If you love your second chance stories, then don't miss this one.

Woo! Second chance romance. Enemies to lovers. That just makes the reader girl in me go all...quivery. Sleeping with the Enemy was full of passion, manipulations, long ago misunderstandings and some pretty hot lovin as old flames are brought back together by someone trying to cause trouble for Jay's football team.

The quick of it is that Jay and Bridgett had a thing many years ago when they were barely grown and it ended...disastrously and they went their separate ways, grew up, created new lives and hardened their hearts against love. But now Jay's football team is being sued and they need one helluva lawyer to get them out of the jam. Bridgett just so happens to be one killer lawyer and the sister of one of his players and back into each others lives they're thrown.

I liked Bridgett quite a bit. There was just something about her that I connected with. She's strong and self sufficient and a survivor who keeps her feelings contained. I sympathized with her and wanted good things for her. Wanted to see the hard edges she protected herself with soften. Jay...I wanted to smack around a little. lol He was just as hurt by a misunderstanding that tore them apart and not willing to trust in love or let anyone close again but he was kind of a shit about it when trying to get with Bridgett again all these years later. He wanted her body but that's it. They were good in the sack so why not while their time away getting sweaty together. And, yeah, he needed to be smacked for that.

"No," she said, her voice breathless. "No more. We had out walk down memory lane, but that's all it was. We were both tired and overwrought and we lost our heads."

He arched an eyebrow at her. "I have never been nor will I ever be 'overwrought'"

Bridgett's eyes narrowed and she released an exasperated huff. "No, but you are insufferable. You wore me down once, but it won't happen again. You are a client. Nothing else can or will happen." She jerked her chin up in the air, defying him to argue with her.

Jay felt a grin break out--not to mention a very nice hard-on begin to develop--at her belligerent stance. "That would have sounded a lot tougher if I didn't have your panties in my pocket."

There were lots of good things but I did have a couple problems. I was never able to forget the bad blood between these two and instead of it bringing the right kind of tension and heat to their encounters most of the time it made me kind of sad for them instead. I also had some trouble with some wishy washy happening especially after the 3rd or 4th time with no real change in things. ex--Bridgett wanting to keep a distance, his lips meeting hers and that changing to "fuck me stupid" instead then back to no we can't. And I was with her on that. They didn't trust each other and that kept me from believing them falling back in love. Especially since the misunderstanding was kept going for so long instead of them just saying something then everything wrapping up way too close to the end.

Okay, so I enjoyed Sleeping with the Enemy to a point. There are some pretty funny moments, some that had me tearing up and these two were definitely scorching in bed together. And I loved a bunch of the secondary characters--both family, friend and coworkers--and am really hoping they'll get their stories told. Even the suspense with who was trying to cause Jay's team trouble was pretty dang good. But this one didn't quite do it for me overall. I love the whole second chance romance and seeing a couple deal with the animosity that can bring but this time, for me, the tone missed the mark a bit. Worth the read to see how things fall out if you've been reading the series but not the best to start with for the first time.

~~~~~~~~~~
Reading Progress...
There's just something about this one that isn't quite working. It's not bad but I'm just having a hard time with the romance. With her easily caving every time he kisses her despite knowing he's just using her and telling him it has to end. Then a kiss and 'okay, fuck my brains out'. I think this is the 4th time it's gone in this cycle?
Oh this looks good! Been waiting for this one. Can't wait!
Sleeping with the Enemy is football, wine, fun and love—and those are all things that make me very happy!
Jay and Bridgett meet in Italy when they are young, and fall in love. They make plans for their lives and then Jay has a family emergency and heads back to the States. Through a serious of unfortunate events Bridgett and Jay go their separate ways—not without heartbreak and struggles. When Jay needs legal reinforcements he calls on Bridgett’s firm for assistance.
I loved the banter, witty humor, all consuming attempt at resisting love, and the desire that flies off the page. Jay is a strong man who isn’t sure he can let his heart be open to Bridgett again, but the desire to own her body is there at all times of the day and night. Bridgett can’t resist him but hopes to not fall in love again. The writing is superb, and I’m excited to read more of what Tracy writes! ~ Heather, 4.5 stars
Sleeping With the Enemy
Loved this book. I have been waiting for this book since Bridget was introduced in Brody's book and I was not disappointed at all. The relationship between Jay and Bridget was so well written, so hot and I wondered if they would get their Happily Ever After. This is another great book in the Out of Bounds series. Hope there are more to come. Great book, great series, a must read!!
I have been given an advanced copy of this book. Tracy Solheim has always been a good writer and her books most enjoyable to read. But, Tracy's last two books, including this one, have brought Tracy to the forefront of contemporary authors. This book has many layers to peel, great depth and the best characterizations I have read in a contemporary in a long time. The two leading characters have such depth and history, threads weaving in and out that Tracy deftly sews together into a satisfying fabric. Jay, especially, his character is complex, difficult, and thankfully, throughout, all his actions are believable. I found myself yelling at him, wanting to hug him and yes, understanding Bridgett's turmoil to let him go, stay, no go....back and forth, allowing her heart and body to answer her intellectual reasoning. Needles to say, I loved this book. I adored the entire journey and never wanted to let Jay and Bridgett go. As an aside, Tracy also weaves those secondary characters into this fabric with such style that they all fit in easily and are worth books of their own. You will recognize some of the other characters that have been introduced in the Blaze trilogy and like me, smile at their roles.
I read an advanced copy of this book and I loved Jay's and Bridgett's story. As usual Tracy has given us loveable, flawed characters with multiple layers. Their story was a funny, sweet, intense, and crazy roller coaster ride that made me want to read the whole book without putting it down. Tracy does a good job of telling their backstory with flashbacks so you can see what made them who they are currently or should I say why they are so messed up. It was also fun getting to touch base with character's from other books, even though this book can be read as a stand alone without feeling as though you are missing something. This book is a fun ride with just enough suspense with the blogger( which has been in past books) and with lawsuits. If you loved any of Tracy's last books you will love this story, but if you haven't read her books yet do yourself a favor and read Tracy's books. She is a great writer who paints great stories and pictures that you can laugh about and cry about. As usual, Tracy does a great job with secondary story lines and secondary characters....some you even wonder if maybe we will get to read their stories in other books. Tracy's books are those that are on my "to keep and read again" shelf.
LOVED IT....A MUST READ!!!
If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. Then he becomes your partner. - Nelson Mandela
An honorable businessman. A determined lawyer. A troublesome blogger. And football! Tracy builds upon her successful franchise, the Out of Bounds series, with romance and drama on and off the field. Jay and Bridget work together despite their painful estrangement only to realize the spark still exists between them. They soon realize there is no "I" (or regrets) in team as they battle the blogger and realize their connection.
Thank you, Tracy, for this heartfelt second chance story mixed with football frenzy that we've been anticipating as summer winds down. I especially appreciate how Tracy makes both characters vulnerable and therefore believable. I also enjoyed the references to pop culture, including the trend hide behind online anonymity to create trouble in real life. The sizzling cover perfectly depicts the romance and passion in the story line.
Recommended read for fans of sports romance, strong female character, "good guy" hero, and second chances.
I received an ARC from another blogger.
I won a signed copy of this book in a giveaway and agreed to write an honest review. I enjoyed this story immensely. It never ceases to amaze me how wrapped up in the emotion of a story a writer can get me. Ms. Solheim does this excellently. I'm thinking to myself just talk to each other! Then the couple's history starts to be revealed and I'm siding with one of the main characters. Then a twist is thrown in towards the end and I'm thinking I did not see that coming, you should have talked to each other sooner! That's how it goes with Bridgett and Jay, throughout the story. I found myself wishing for an epilogue because doctor's are so often wrong and I just know they were in Bridgett's case.
I feel so lucky to have been given an advanced copy of Sleeping with the Enemy - by far Tracy's best book to date. I loved the other books in the series as well and Tracy is such a skillful storyteller that you just find yourself falling a bit in love with the characters. In this story Jay and Bridget are so cute you are cheering for them immediately. But I also loved the other characters and found myself going "I hope her next book is about..." I really couldn't put the book down - it's the kind of book you find yourself sighing while you read it. Made my weekend!
The only downside is waiting for her next book to be finished...
Tracy does it again! She made me cry at the end which is annoying since I get teased by my family. It also should give you a sense to what a great writer Tracy is! This book is everything that you want in a romance novel! One really gets involved with Jay and Bridget. You cheer for Bridget and her tough exterior and Jay who seems arrogant but it hiding so much depth beneath his character. This is a must read for anyone looking for both a romance and a great story.
Sleeping With the Enemy by Tracy Solheim is the 4th book in her Out of Bounds series. I have not read the earlier books, but after reading this book, I do plan on going back and read the other three. Sleeping With the Enemy reads very well as a standalone,
Bridgett Janik is our heroine, and she is a strong, smart, savvy one at that. Bridgett is a top notch lawyer, and isn’t too happy to be assigned to a case defending the Baltimore Blaze football team. The reason for her unhappiness? Jay McManus is our hero, and the owner of the Blaze. Jay and Bridgett had a relationship years before, which broke both of their hearts, with each having walked away blaming the other person.
With a scandal and threat of a lawsuit, Jay and Bridget are thrown together, and their feelings for each have not been forgotten. The chemistry between them is undeniably hot, and Jay is determined to win Bridget back, but only as a mistress; he will not allow his heart to fall for her again. Bridgett wants nothing to do with Jay, but she cannot control her lust for him.
In between the hot sex scenes, and the slow build romance being resurrected, there is a mystery of who is behind the false rumors and innuendo about the team and Jay. As secrets become unraveled, Jay begins to suspect that someone from his past is out to hurt him, but what he doesn’t know is how far this person has gone in trying to destroy his life.
This was a very nice second romance between Jay and Bridgett, but what I really enjoyed about the story was all the wonderful secondary characters that made up this story. Jay’s sister, Charlie was great, and I hope Solheim plans to give us her story soon. I also enjoyed Bridgett’s sister, though at times she needed to be smacked at her comments to Bridgett; and Linc was a good character that will need his story, too. The key to the story as we race to the finish: Will Jay allow himself to open his heart to Bridgett? Will Bridgett be able to trust Jay again? Will the truth come out what really happened all those years ago?
Tracy Solheim has written a wonderful story that has a bit of everything; great couple, sizzling romance, wonderful secondary characters, mystery, betrayal, and many secrets that will be revealed. I recommend you read Sleeping With the Enemy, as you will enjoy it as much as I did.
Sleeping with the Enemy is a great read, The chemistry between Jay and Bridgett was so thick you could cut it with a knife, and def they are hot and heavy for each other still after all those years apart! Both do not want to give the other their hearts again after what happened 13 years ago, which was a misunderstanding. But the heart wants what the heart wants, and both their hearts want each other even if they dont want to admit it to each other or themselves!
What I enjoyed most about this book is how you got the story today as well as their back story of how they meet and how they were back then. Both had broken hearts thinking the other just didnt feel the same as the other when in truth they both had the same dreams..... together, but when the wrong person is in the middle of it, it ruins it for the both of them and they miss out on the years they could have had! During all that time apart neither of them ever felt that connection as they felt together with anyone else.
This book had its ups and downs with the couple, but that is how life goes sometimes, this story had its sweet moments, upsetting moments, and sexy moments. It is the kind of book you cant put down until you know what was gonna happen between Jay and Bridgett, but once all the secrets come to surface from what happened back then, in the end the story ends at a great spot. If these are the kinds of books you love to read, then you should go order now!!!
Jay McManus was the youngest owner of a NFL team. When he bought it, he didn't realize all the baggage that it could come with it. While it was frustrated Jay thought he could handle the blogger that was constantly putting down and accusing players and owners, he was not expecting a lawsuit for sexual harassment. One that was filed against him and the team by a former cheerleader that surprised everyone.
So they made sure that he had the best lawyer possible for it....Bridgett Janik. Who just also happened to be the sister of Brody, a tight end on the team and someone Jay knew well, very well. When Bridgett saw Jay again even though it had been awhile her body remember that incredible time they had together and that the magic was still there. He was feeling the same way as well but both had to bottle up those feelings at first to make sure that the lawsuit was their number one priority. Little did they realize that it would not work and it was just building up to become an incredible blow out when it happened. One that would affect their personal and business lives forever.
Another HOT Out of Bounds novel from Tracy. A page turning, you do not want to put it down until you have finished it book that will not be disappointing. I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy for review.
I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley and let me just say:
Holy smokes!!!! This book brought out all kinds of emotions. Highs and lows and everything in between. So glad it is has a happy ending. My only disclaimer is that it will be difficult to read for those who have lost a child. Ms. Solheim has definitely created another work of literary art.
Solheim tackles the legalities in SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY
http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/201...
E-Galley provided by publisher for review. No remuneration was exchanged and all opinion presented herein are my own except as noted.
I have liked each of the sport related steamy stories in the Out of Bounds series. I liked much of the Italian romance aspect of this one too, but I missed the hot athletes taking center stage. I do enjoy how interwoven these stories are as well.
A lot of this story is about a specious sexual harassment law suit brought against the Baltimore Blaze and and its owner, Jay McManus by the team cheerleaders. Unfortunately, Jay is being represented by Bridgett, the woman with whom he had a passionate thing in Italy many years before. It ended badly for both and though neither trusts the other they are strongly attracted to each other sexually.
He demands, from the senior partner of her law firm, that Bridgett not recuse herself from the case. If you read the blurb, above Jay is “determined not to let Bridgett slip away from him a second time.” And on Bridgett’s side: “It’s bad enough she has to mingle with Jay during games, but working beside her former lover may be too much for her body—and her heart—to resist.”
At this point in my reading of the book warning bells started to go off in my brain.
Keep in mind that I love Tracy’s series, she writes sexual encounters well, her characters are very human. What I did not like has nothing to do with the writing, with the story or really whether the book is a good value.
Also, keep in mind this is a sexual harassment suit. There are a lot of technicalities in that terminology. The EEOC says:
Harassment is unwelcome conduct that is based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information. Harassment becomes unlawful where 1) enduring the offensive conduct becomes a condition of continued employment, or 2) the conduct is severe or pervasive enough to create a work environment that a reasonable person would consider intimidating, hostile, or abusive. (http://www.eeoc.gov/laws/types/harass...)
So, why, I asked myself throughout the book is Jay McManus written as the star of a “How to Sexually Harass and Create a Hostile Working Environment.” I asked Tracy about this and she replied, “My editor wanted him to be a very alpha billionaire so he’ll likely turn off some readers who don’t read those archetypes.” With work-experience and degrees in Journalism and Legislative Affairs, Tracy has a good knowledge of the legalities and intricacies of federal laws. So, there has to be a reason behind the character being set up like this.
These are very specific instances but I don’t want to provide spoilers. He repeatedly threatens to endanger her position in her law firm saying if she leaves the case he will take his business elsewhere. All the while he thinks she really wants to be with him. Maybe she does want him, but still, it doesn’t excuse the behavior. I kept thinking, so this character is going to realize he is a harassing individual whose behavior threatens Bridgett’s job, and get help to reform his behavior.
Now, this personal, internal conflict kept my mind very engaged in the story. But it was troubling. As his attorney Bridgett is not his employee, but she is subordinate. He has power over her through her job. And their common past leaves her emotionally vulnerable. Her attempts at keeping the relationship professional are brushed aside.
I think the character shows how very easy it is for a person to be harassed in their job; how easy it is to feel a real threat under the guise of “you know you want it.”
Otherwise, there is a callous attitude by Jay and his BFF towards women because of the bad experiences each had that one summer many years ago. With Jay, this is a bit of a coming of age tale, because it is when he finally gets his head out of his apparently well-muscled ass and realizes he needs to get over it.
I would really have liked to see the character get some comeuppance for his actions towards Bridgett though. Members of the football team he owns have to go to sensitivity training and, I think it is time he does too.
I don’t have to like a character for the book to be good and this is still an engaging tale. I wondered about the value of making Jay the epitome of harassment and wanted Bridgett to tell Jay his behavior is exactly what the cheerleader suit claims, or at least her boss about the situation. It demonstrates the insidious nature of Sexual Harassment and how easily suborned a woman’s will can be in this situation. Bridgett seems like a victim to me and really does seem to be “Sleeping with the Enemy.”
"No," she said, her voice breathless. "No more. We had our walk down memory lane, but that's all it was. We were both tired and overwrought and we lost our heads."
He arched an eyebrow at her. "I have never been nor will I ever be 'overwrought'"
Bridgett's eyes narrowed and she released an exasperated huff. "No, but you are insufferable. You wore me down once, but it won't happen again. You are a client. Nothing else can or will happen." She jerked her chin up in the air, defying him to argue with her.
Jay felt a grin break out - not to mention a very nice hard-on begin to develop -at her belligerent stance. "That would have sounded a lot tougher if I didn't have your panties in my pocket."
Rating: 4.5*
Cover: Yay
Trope: Reconciliation romance
Chemistry: Off the charts Scorchio
One-Sentence Summary: A lawyer and a sports team owner are forced to confront the circumstances of their breakup
Review: This book gave me the FEELS. I was one hundred percent invested in Jay/Bridgett and their story. Apart from the scorching hot chemistry between them, the best thing about it was that their backstory actually had, you know, a STORY. All too often two characters break up over the smallest misunderstanding and you're like "seriously, THAT is the big reveal?!". Well, Jay/Bridgett's backstory had young romance, angst, interfering friends, and I LOVED how Solheim made you wait to find out the whole story, slowly dropping hints throughout the book but making you race through the pages just so you could get to the truth.
I loved the setting as well with the corporate world entwined with the sporting world. Secondary characters were lovable as well (well, apart from GWEN. I had to dig deep to find some sympathy for her) and I presume Blake is going to get his own book next? And Linc/Charlie? Surely they deserve a novella at least? (Pretty please, Tracy?!)
So why did it lose the star?
As much as I loved Jay/Bridgett and I appreciated the circumstances, I did feel the whole "no we can't get involved - oops we slept together - let's never do it again - PAUSE - repeat previous three actions" cycle was a bit repetitive. I mean Bridgett is a strong, smart woman, you would think she would be able to control her libido if she really wanted to and if she didn't, then don't keep protesting!
My review cross-posted from Wit and Sin: http://witandsin.blogspot.com/2015/08...
Tracy Solheim keeps the tension – sexual and otherwise – running high in Sleeping with the Enemy . Bridgett and Jay’s shared past is bittersweet and clearly ended badly, making their reunion romance anything but sweet. Though there aren’t tender feelings between them at the beginning of the book, what they definitely don’t lack is passion, and this keeps the story moving at a fast pace.
I adored Bridgett. She’s smart, caring, and under the confidence she wears like armor lies a woman with deep scars. Bridgett is easy to root for and it’s clear her feelings for Jay have never died, even though she hates him at the beginning of the book. As for Jay, I’m sorry to say I didn’t like him for most of the story. He’s a domineering alpha male, and also a selfish one, a man who looks to take what he wants from Bridgett and doesn’t seem to care what their troubled connection does to her. Though Ms. Solheim shows his reasoning, I was turned off by his continued callousness. And while the sexual tension between Bridgett and Jay made the story interesting, there were times that the overused “heroine hating the hero but turning to mush the minute he kisses her” bothered me. Because they don’t simply sit down and talk about what went wrong in the past (clearing up the big misunderstanding), Jay and Bridgett require some strong outside help to get together, and whether or not this bothers you is something I chalk up to reader preference. Yet even taking into consideration the issues I had with the romance, I was still engaged with the story.
Sleeping with the Enemy is the fourth Out of Bounds novel, and though it features the Baltimore Blaze’s owner rather than one of the team’s star players, that doesn’t mean the story is lacking in behind-the-scenes NFL action. The overarching series plotline of the blogger targeting the Baltimore Blaze reaches its climax in this book. I absolutely loved seeing this storyline finally play out in full and I was as invested in this part of the book as I was the romance.
Highly entertaining secondary characters round out the story. While Sleeping with the Enemy can be read as a standalone, fans of the series will likely enjoy seeing past Out of Bounds characters. As much fun as it was revisiting the Blaze team and staff, I was most intrigued by Jay’s sister, Charlie, and his best friend, Blake. So while Sleeping with the Enemy had its ups and downs for me, I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more of Ms. Solheim’s work.
My Review:
This book was so good. I love second chance romance stories and this one was a fabulous one.
Thirteen years ago, Jay and Bridgett were young and idealistic when they met the summer they were both in Italy. They fell desperately in love, but an awful set of circumstances means that neither thought the other truly reciprocated that love. Devastated...both of them. And now neither trusts love any longer. They both live for their jobs and find all their fulfillment through that.
Jay is now the owner of the Baltimore Blaze and he's being sued by one of the cheerleaders. He needs a good, female attorney and that's where Bridgett comes in. She's a high-powered, confident lawyer. Although, every interaction with Jay throws her completely off-line. She doesn't handle him well, because she still has such strong feelings for him, no matter how badly he hurt her. The thing is...this lawsuit threatens her secrets, too.
Like I said, I loved this dynamic, and there are a lot of great little side-stories that make this an incredibly entertaining and satisfying read.
*There's Jay's little sister Charlie and her surprise pregnancy. I love how she and Bridgett connected.
*Bridgett's sister, Gwen, is going through a divorce and a really hard time, but I had a hard time feeling much empathy for her because she's pretty witchy...but those still made for some interesting scenes with Bridgett.
*The entire story line with the blogger and lawsuit was briliiantly constructed. I loved every little layer of that unfolding.
*There were flashbacks for that time with Jay and Bridgette that tore at my heartstrings.
In fact, the entire story pulled at my emotions. I really, really liked it. This entire series has been phenomenal, but this one definitely topped the list for my favorite from the series. It was just really, really good. If you're like me and like a good second chance story, I definitely recommend this one. I liked both Jay and Bridgette. They're driven, successful people who desperately are trying to avoid getting hurt again, but there's no hiding from true love...and that made this a great story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
An emotional read that brings two strong, flawed characters back together for a second chance if they can get past the hurt and misunderstandings that tore them apart years ago.
Jay McManus, owner of the Baltimore Blaze, is the youngest owner in the NFL and can't afford any missteps. Already targeted by When the team is hit with an unexpected lawsuit from one of it's cheerleaders,Bridgett Janik is the only option for representation. Less than ideal, because Bridgett is not only the sister of one of his star players, but also his first love that ended badly. Bridgett has no desire to have anything to do with Jay, after he walked away from her so many years ago.
Bridgett spent the intervening years growing up, building a successful career and crafting the armor to protect her feelings. Jay channeled his hurt into building an empire, now he figures he can use the chance to have a second chance with Bridgett, without getting his heart involved.
Packed with emotion, Solheim has crafted well-developed characters and a story line that keeps the reader hooked. Solheim has taken the characters and story and crafted something unforgettable that had me laughing and crying, and I hated to reach the last page, all the hallmarks of a great story. I loved the secondary characters and everything they added to the story.I hope to see Charlie and Blake in their own stories down the road.
Though it is Book 4 in the Out of Bounds series, this novel can easily stand alone without the reader feeling something has been missed.
5 Intense Stars
I was given this book for my honest review
Bridgett-sweet, pretty and smart
Jay-sexy and hot
From past to present this intensity of a romance takes leaps and bounds beyond most. The past that has come to the future is one that of forsaken dreams are made. With consequences of the past that have a bearing on this couples future this author brings us to a whole new world that has mystery, misunderstandings and healing on the forefront of their lives. Can this couple survive the past that has come to be in the forging future of both? Can Bridgett let go and see that chance is on her side? Will Jay’s enlightenment of the past be the light that will continue to burn and forge on to making him go leaps but at the same time forgive the misfortunes of the past?
The sex between this couple is not just hot but a sensual yearning that is like lightening that has struck not once but twice in the same place.
To the readers: A normal review without spoilers would be hard to write so for this I will let you know that there is mystery, love, past to present and misunderstandings that come to light in this book. What you think you can predict as an outcome in this book is not to be so for this I say read carefully and expect the unexpected and you will truly see the light beyond the darkness.
To the author there are no words to really describe this most awesome read. Kudos
Happy Reading
Author Tracy Solheim launches her Out of Bounds series into the 4th quarter with SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY (Berkley Sensation) and once again tensions are high off the field, but this time, the pressure’s on Baltimore Blaze football team owner, Jay McManus. Being a dot-com-millionaire makes him the target of an anonymous blogger wanting to destroy his reputation and the Blaze cheerleaders are suing him. Well, someone’s going down, and it’s not McManus who has hired a lawyer who just happens to be his former girlfriend, as well the team’s hottest player’s sister. From there, SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY goes from really complicated to a sizzling and sexy.
Jay McManus let Bridgett Janik get away from him once, breaking her heart and he’s not going to allow it to happen again – even if that means going into overtime! Tracy Solheim FANS know when they’re reading one of her Out of Bounds novels, “the game is love and everyone wins!”
Like her previous novels, GAME ON, FOOLISH GAMES and RISKY GAME, Tracy Solheim dresses up her leading men in tight form fitting uniforms, shoulder pads and they end up sweating on and off the field – just the way her fans like it!
Tracy Solheim takes us back to her Out of Bounds series with a great read full of twist and secondary character you are going to love meeting. Jay McManus is now the owner of the Blaze and He needs a good lawyer. Bridgett Janik is more than a good lawyer. The only problem is They have a shared past that left them both with life changing scars. The Blogger that was after Brody Janik, Bridgett's baby Brother, has now set her sight on Jay. The twist to Jay and Bridgett past is added as flashbacks that move the story along. We meet Jay's Mother and Sister, along with Blaze staff and his long time friends. Bridgett's Sisters are back along with Brody.
I was hooked on all the storylines that Tracy Solheim mixes so perfectly to weave a great story you do not want to put down. If you have read Tracy Solheim series, Sleeping With The Enemy is going to be that wonderful addition you have waited to read. I was given this book for an honest review. You finish this wondering who we get to read their whole story next.
Thanks Tracy Solheim & Good Writing
A great story of second chance love. Who is the enemy in this story? Jay and Bridgett have a history of a summer romance from years past, that ended with a letter. Jay is now the owner of the Blaze Football team, he needs a good lawyer for his team for a sexual harassment charge. Who does he turn to but, Bridgett. Can they leave the past behind them, and start a new. The secrets will come out of who the enemy really is.
The sexual chemistry between Jay and Bridgett is very hot. Their past and present lives will take you on a roller coaster ride with many twists and turns. Their story is told in flashbacks and will have you cheering them on to work things out. I also enjoyed the secondary characters in the story line, they all had some sort of flaws that needed to be fixed.
A fair warning, once you start this book, you will not be able to put down. The perfect read for the beginning of football season. This is part of a series, but can be read as stand alone.
I received a copy of this book from Net Galley for an honest review.
Excellent, Emotional...It was an amazing, touching book...A misunderstanding costs them so much time..
Bridgett Janik is to represent Jay McManus, and the Baltimore Blaze the football team he owns..The anonymous blogger is spreading some rumors about team members. They need to contain it before it get's worse.
It might be awkward because number one...her brother plays for the team, and number two Bridgett and Jay have a history. He warned her things could be come out about there past. She wasn't quite sure how to handle that.
Jay wanted to test something and it totally backfired on him...A hot moment between the two of them turns to a big mess..not sure what to do about it..well you'll see. But wow!!!!
Things between them keep getting more interesting, and when they find out exactly who is behind the blogging Jay tries to take care of it himself, which makes things worse. It is a personal vendetta against Jay.
I suggest you buy the book.To be released September 1st-
I was given an advanced copy of Sleeping with the Enemy and absolutely loved it. This is the fourth instalment of the "Out of Bounds" series and Tracy did not disappoint. Tracy has a unique writing style that captures you from the very beginning and makes you want to finish as soon as possible. All of her characters are flawed and easy to relate too. They may not all be loveable at the beginning but by the end of the book they have definitely grown on you.
This is Jay and Bridgett's story. Jay is a self made millionaire who owns his own tech company, has his own vineyard and is the youngest Blaze owner. He is a man who knows what he wants and how to get it, at times he can be ruthless and selfish. Bridgett is a very good lawyer but really doesn't know what she wants in life. She is kind, caring and knows how to win cases. These two have a history that we learn bit by bit throughout the book and it makes us understand them.
I was given an ARC of this book to read. I discovered the Out of Bounds series last year and became a fan of this author. This book has become my favorite book in the series so far. I loved everything about it from the characters to the storyline.
Secrets, secrets, secrets. Secrets shared and secrets guarded closely from others. And with a secret, it is always revealed.
Jay owns the Blaze football team and Bridgett is the sister of one of the players and the lawyer assigned to help Jay out with his cheerleader problems. The scenes between Jay and Bridgette are so good that I didn't want to put the book down. When you put two strong people together, it makes the ride that much more entertaining.
I also loved the supporting characters in this book. I really hope to see more of Charlie, Gwen, Blake, Matt and Linc in the future.
I would absolutely recommend this book.
I thought this book was fantastic. Seeing how different Jay and Bridgett viewed what happened to their relationship was very interesting. Seeing how it really happened was even better. I really enjoyed everything that led up to the end. There were a lot of surprises in this book, which was great. It kept me guessing, and wondering what was going to happen. Not to mention, the hot chemistry between Jay and Bridgett. I loved that they kind of hated each other, but couldn't stay away from each other. It was fascinating watching them battle, and even try to compromise their relationship to make it fit, like some sort of business arrangement. Tracy Solheim did a phenomenal job developing these characters. I thought it all came together beautifully! I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Sniff, sniff. Lots of heart. Lack of communication face-to-face is disastrous. Not a fan of intimate details anyway, so I kept wishing that instead of engaging in sex, these two characters would talk to one another about their past, present and future. Of course, the book would have been much shorter and not nearly as suspenseful or heart-warming if that had occurred. Mother and daughter, mother and son, siblings, and friends...many relationships are delved into with some good and some not so happy endings. I was provided an ebook by Netgalley for my honest review. I need to read more by this author, as I was quickly captured into the lives of her characters.
Jay and Bridgett are coming face to face over a decade after they'd last seen each other. Back then they were in love and the future looked promising, now they have nothing but animosity towards each other. Of course nothing is as it seems as they slowly learn. The flame that burned brightly between them hasn't gone out making their interactions a bit more complicated than they'd like.
I liked Jay and Bridgett. It's obvious there's history between them that's caused them to change. Jay notices Bridgett is no longer the lively girl her remembers. It's like the spark in her has gone out. Bridgett isn't the only one whose gotten cynical. Jay's attitude has changed completely too. The open man with lots of love to give is gone, leaving this current avatar in its place. I loved being in both Jay and Bridgette's heads. It really allowed me to grasp who they were and how they'd evolved. I was even excited when they allowed their instincts and bodies to override what their heads were telling them. I hoped their hearts would surely follow and lead them back to each other, but it wasn't easy.
Tracy Solheim did a great job at making the plot, including the reason behind the breakdown of Bridgett and Jay's relationship make sense. She also makes their journey back to each other emotionally difficult, but necessary. Better yet, she makes you feel their pain and that added even greater depth to the story. I can't believe how emotionally intense this book was. My feelings were fully engaged and so were my senses. It wasn't just Jay and Bridgett trying to deal with both the past and its lasting after effects, but also their current situations which had them embroiled once again. There were a number of subplots involving the team and family members that were integrated flawlessly.
It was wonderful seeing characters from previous books that I loved. They were integrated into the story in such a way you don't need to read their books before you read this one. Each aspect just added to the impact of the story. I also love how the past was incorporated into the story which cleared up a lot of things. All in all everything combined to leave me a quivering pile of mush by the end and devouring every page. I loved and thoroughly enjoyed every page of this story and sincerely hope there are more in this series to come.
