Colonel D. R. Acula is the pen name of Author Eric Jude. He finds both torment and joy in the dark, and in the dismal tales that he pens. He considers his writings a glimpse into the collective soul of humanity and all its emotional and psychological throes that create us or destroy us. Having been a doom metal musician and fan for many years, he applies the same principles and dark embraces of doom metal to his literary crafts. When he writes he listens solely to just two (Doom Metal) bands 'My Dying Bride' and 'Forest of Shadows'. He loves a good short story, however he is in the process of completing his debut novel.

When he isn't writing and listening to Doom Metal, he can found looking through a camera lens. While his writings are generally on the darker spectrum of things, his photography focuses on the brilliant and wonderful world of life and colors that surround us. He works professionally and for sake of hobby with his camera.

He also spends a great deal of time writing for his website http://www.ericjude.com - It is also the webpage you can visit to learn more about him and his photography, writings and ventures.

He is married to his partner in art, Kylie Jude, who works side by side with him on many of his projects. Kylie and Eric live in the rural mountains of Eastern Kentucky.

In January 2015, the highest civilian honor awarded by the great Commonwealth of Kentucky was bestowed upon him by Governor Steve Beshear, as he was inducted in the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

With his debut Alderdice Tale, D.R. Acula brings a unique look at love, life, and terror. His imagery is palpable, and his characters are well thought out while at the same time remaining mysterious. Bennet kept me guessing until the very end, and when I reached the end, I beamed with joy as the outcome I had secretly hoped for played out before my eyes. The first thing I said to him when I finished reading was "Very Poe-ish." And in many ways, that is true. In all of his writing, but especially in his Alderdice Tales, Acula embodies many of the same aspects as the great Poe, making his work a must read. At least in my opinion. ;)

Lucky for me, I stumbled upon this book (Smashwords) and author and decided to give it a try - it isn't quite like anything else I've read. Short, it provided me with a much needed break in between more-involved novels. Mostly well-written, though a few small changes could be suggested. The descriptive narrative is perfect - painting a clear picture while introducing the reader to the characters and times. This book took a different turn early in and then another unexpected twist came about prior to the ending - which left me wanting more. I'm off to check out Book 2 of The Alderice Tales.
