What a great start to this story…..Rachel, the heroine is spending her last night in Corfu, before she is marrying a man she likes but does not love but doing it because it will make her family happy - when she notices the most gorgeous Greek man …….how could I resist??
A beautiful island and a beautiful Greek hero ( my absolute favorite of all heroes…ooh, I have one of those myself!!), named Alexios (mine is named Costa.....)

Okay, I thought that but really, Rachel had the same idea as me!!!!!

Within a matter of hours, she has lost her virginity to the fabulous Greek, Alexios and had the most mind-blowing sex!!!!!! Sexy and hot is not enough to describe it!!

And then she discovers who Alexios is……..the guy who has been trying to bring down her fiancée….and even worse, he admits he knew who she was and had finally done the one thing he had been planning all along….slept with his enemy’s soon to be bride!!!

Poor Rachel, after all the grief she had gone thru when she was 17 years old……..yet another betrayal by a man!!

So, I’m into this story….and getting into Alexio’s about his childhood and I think….Wait a minute, haven’t I read a book where the hero had an exact childhood like Alexios? And I mean, EXACTLY THE SAME!!!
Are you kidding me!!!!! Maisey Yates rehashing a plot that has been written by someone else. No way!!!

Turn the page and the next and I’m going crazy…..am I imagining this? And suddenly it all comes back to me.

I had read His Ring is not Enough https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... by the same author a few months back and this is the hero from that book’s brother!

Wow, we now get to find out why Jax Kouros was left at the altar by Rachel and then married her sister instead.

Alexio’s past is absolutely horrific his mother was a prostitute who killed herself in front of him when he was still a child, his father was a human and sex trafficker and after Alexios escaped the horrors of his home at 14, lived in the streets where he survived by stealing
Your past can drive you crazy at times….the thought that it’s impossible to move on…

That’s what Alexios believes but in the end, he’s shown that it does not have to be so.

And the person who made that possible was Rachel, who has some serious baggage of her own. Talk about two screwed up adults!!! Insecurities, low self esteem, keeping their feelings inside, fear, anger, which at times I did feel was a bit of overkill!!! But there magic between these two. The way they saw the good in each other. There was something sweet and endearing about them that made me really like them.

I read a few reviews that mentioned the fact that Rachel was a bit “slutty”….yes, she slept with another man whilst engaged to another but does that necessarily make her a bad person? Would it be any different if it had been Alexios doing the same?

Great dialogue. Loved the interaction between the two mc’s.

I really love that Mills & Boon have moved with the times!!!!! Where before we just had kissing and petting, these days …..wow….the sex scenes are hot and more explicit…which just by the way I really like.

The days of Barbara Cartland are so totally over!!! I thought I would share something I read somewhere about Violet Winspear, one of the all-time popular M&B authors.........

She created a maelstrom in 1970 when she claimed that her heroes "frighten and fascinate. Winspear received hate mail for her comment. Winspear's full comment, which clarifies her writing style was:

“I get my heroes so that they're lean and hard muscled and mocking and sardonic and tough and tigerish and single, of course. Oh and they've got to be rich and then I make it that they're only cynical and smooth on the surface. But underneath they're well, you know, sort of lost and lonely. In need of love but, when roused, capable of breathtaking passion and potency. Most of my heroes, well all of them really, are like that. They frighten but fascinate. Men it's dangerous to be alone in the room with.

It’s totally believable that a woman would want to be more involved in bed with a man…..so I was so not shocked reading Rachel’s thought…

I did say there were some HOT parts in this story!!!!

Take a trip with Alexio’s and Rachel and see them overcoming their obstacles and then finding their HEA……..with baby and all!!! Sorry, is this a spoiler? But you know there is going to be a HEA….why else would we love reading these books?????

The heroine of this book is virgin in name (her hymen is intact) but she learnt how to give a blow job in her teenage years :/ and the top of that, she had of her past "repertoire" a video in which she was "working" with her mouth between the legs of her boyfriend, friend... etc whatever ¬¬
Not my type of virgin heroine :S

This is the companion book to His Ring is Not Enough which was about #TheManWithThePlan Ajax Kouros and Leah who stepped up to marry him when her sister Rachel went AWOL on the Wedding Day.

This is Rachel's story. Perfect princess Rachel who never does anything wrong or untoward. She is marrying Ajax because it's the right thing to do. Which is unfortunate when she runs into Alex Christofides, Ajax's sworn enemy, a month before the wedding.

Cos Alex is...yeah...younger...hotter (in Rachel's eyes) and the one man who can get under that perfect façade. But then the whole reveal comes after the dirty deed. He only wanted her for revenge. (Mostly...well that was the original plan...things just...you know).

What else can Rachel do but go home and carry on with the wedding. She owes this to her family, to Ajax. But it isn't until the morning of the wedding that she asks herself what she might owe to herself and the potential outcomes of that night. If you read the other book, that isn't a spoiler.

So from there we have Rachel and Alex trying to sort out the mess their lives have become because of what happened.

There is a lot of angst in this (no surprise). Alex has a similar background to Ajax and it's a doozy in terms of emotional trauma. It was rather nice seeing Ajax and Leah play their part in the happy ending. In spite of the tears it was a sweet ending.

Some might not agree with my high rating, but this is my kind of story. A little slow to wind up but in the end just right to sign out from the world and escape.

Oh joy! another heroine whose past includes drugs, alcohol, pornographic photos and videos (when she was 16 she let a guy videotape her while she went down on him in the back of his car) And our rebel heroine had such a wild past cause her family was just too perfect! Come again? Oh and author's heroines are so feisty and manly I find it gross. Butcher heroines are not my idea of romantic!

"One Night to Risk it All" is the story of Rachel and Ajax.

This book runs parallel to book 1- we see the older, prettier, wilder sister Rachel, our heroine going on a pre wedding vacation with her bff, finding a hot young stud, having bang bang and finding out he's her to-be-husband's nemesis.
Fast forward a month, she suspects she's preggo, and Alex, our hero gatecrashes a wedding, only to whisk her away.
She doesn't trust him, he only wants to take her away from his enemy aka stepbrother Ajax, but the lust is heavy so they bang.
But oh no, she has a sad past. So does he. So they behave like immature nincompoops.
And that is the story my friends.

I FLOVED Leah and Ajax's story, and my expectations from this one very high- but I was let down a lot.
Things other people had an issue with but I enjoyed
-The heroine's "scandalous" past- I honestly don't like ALL my heroines in HQN landia to be pure virgins. Her past added more to her story.
-Their banter. The hiss scene was my fav!
-The hot hot coitus

Things I did not like at all
-Them behaving like 9 year olds
-The double wedding failure fiasco
-Their sob story making it an excuse for them to behave like idiots
-Sub par grovel
-Rushed ending

DISAPPOINTMENT is an understatement.

Wasn't planning on reading another Harlequin Presents, but just decided that I needed to read something and I just need a quick little read and this was the perfect book for that. Read this in one sitting very easily.

Okay on to the review, hopefully it won't be too long. Fingers crossed.

I don't know how Maisey Yates does this, but she finds ways to create stories that have a little controversial angle to them that a reader may or may not support or agree with and turn it around where the reader, such as I, does support it and the characters and even wind up liking them despite their faults and choice even liking them more because of them and their imperfectness. I think only Maisey Yates could do that and she has a brilliant way of doing so. That's why I love her as a reader because she does this that are so unexpected and have a bit of twist them and then create this powerful love story that I can't help falling in love with, and I'm always anxious to see what new twists and turns she comes up with to up the ante more and create these lovable (who aren't always so lovable) characters and stories.

This book was no exception. Maisey created this powerful, emotional rich, and heart wrenching romance with a slightly controversial twist to it. And it was pretty fantastic and had me glued to the pages to see how the story of Alex and Rachel would play out. Too broken people with tons of issues between them that needed love to help them find their way back to the people that they were meant to be and stronger because of it. There was just so much going on in this story, emotional in such a tiny format that was totally intense and gut wrenching that it was hard to take a breath. Because the pages were filled with emotional drama with their issues clouding what their life could be until they found each other that was. I loved their brokenness and flaws that they had between them, it was what made them real to me. Were they perfect? No but I loved that lack of perfection and what they all had to deal with before they got their happily ever after.

As I said there was a bit of controversy in this book, which I wouldn't be sure I could forgive if it wasn't Maisey Yates writing it and creating this beautiful and emotional love story. In this case the twist or controversy was the fact that Rachel slept with Alex when she was engaged to another man, Ajax, a man that saw Alex as his enemy who seemed set to destroy him, and Alex was in fact doing that and set about doing that by destroying Ajax's business and then by taking his fiancée as his own and throwing it in face. But more on that later. Back to the controversy, if I read a book where I heard that one of the main characters was cheating on this significant other I would have been totally turned off, disgusted, and just really not rooting for the character that was in question that did the cheating. In this case, it was Rachel. And I am anti- cheating is wrong person even in my fiction/fantasy fiction. It just rubs me the wrong way on so many levels, but the way Maisey Yates did it, didn't make it okay per say, but easier to swallow and make me feel for Rachel even like her because of the fact that Rachel wasn't in love with Ajax nor did she want him. Again not that it was okay because she made a commitment to Ajax and had his ring on her finger and had ever intention of marrying him when she set about having a fling with Alex for her last hurrah and bout of freedom before she was stuck in a loveless marriage. Now if the hero did this I don't know if I would have had a favorable reaction to it, which is totally sexist I know, in fact I know probably and would call him all sorts of names with pig being the nice word, but again the way that Maisey Yates wrote and portrayed Rachel let me forgive her and feel for her and what she was going through emotionally. Rachel was a mess emotionally and she had this panic over her wedding with everything weighing on her knowing how many people were counting on her to go through with this wedding, and I felt for her. Especially the fact that she felt this consuming passion for Alex as soon as she spotted him and was instantly drawn to him, drawn in a way that she wasn't to Ajax. Really she was going through with the wedding for everyone else's sake and not her out. She was trying to make people happy and give them what they wanted while not giving herself what she needed and wanted. So having understood that about her softened the blow for the cheating. But again cheating is totally wrong and unacceptable at any time.

I think another reason why I wasn't so offended by the cheating was because I'd already read Ajax stories, His Ring is Not Enough a while ago and knew that he got his happily ever after with Rachel's sister Leah, and that was the woman that he truly belonged with and needed and wanted. He even stated in his book that he never really wanted or loved Rachel, though he thought he loved her at one point, as he came to fall in love with Leah with the inconsumable passion and raw emotions he development for Leah along the way and knew that was the woman he was suppose to be with. So I knew after Rachel left the alter, even though experienced some pain, he was okay and survived and knew he made a better life for himself with Leah than he would have with Rachel. Now if I hadn't read this book before and knew that Ajax was okay, like I said, I might not have been as okay with the cheating, but know that he got his happily ever after even before I began reading this book definitely softened the blow. Plus it didn't surprise me that Rachel left Ajax at the altar with another man and found she couldn't go through it. So that soften the blow as well, though I wasn't sure of the extent of how involved Rachel and Alex were in that book until I began this one, which was all the way and consequence because of it, but it prepared me for what was to come. So I wasn't dumbstruck by it. So that probably helped as well.

The passion between Alex and Rachel. Oh my goodness. That was off the charts. A billion percent. From the moment they met, fireworks went off with their attraction surrounding them and being so thick that it was practically a fog. It was just sizzling. I don't know how Maisey Yates creates these sizzling couples and sizzling love scenes but exceeds immensely to point that I have to fan myself and splash water on my face. She just fantastic in creating passion between couples. And creating multiple scenes of passion, and it was delicious and I couldn't ask for more in this book. I mean there was just so much chemistry from then I could see why they fell into bed after only a few hours of knowing each other, which is another pet peeve of mine in romance is sex too soon or soon after they met because I like the anticipation and build up until they get to that scene, and I just don't like stranger sex really, but again the way Maisey Yates did it I didn't care because just in those few pages of them meeting and flirting was enough to create that delicious anticipation that I love because it was there and it was thick and there didn't need to be much more unless Maisey Yates wanted the book to catch fire just like the characters caught fire. Oh my goodness. It was just insane and it carried on from the first time scene all the way to the ending scene, their passion and chemistry for one another. Alex and Rachel were just hot together, and I could see how they couldn't resist each other. Heck I could resist seeing yet another love scene that was thrown my way. I enjoyed every single one of them. And since Maisey Yates created even a little anticipation, I was all for them getting together early on and having that one night together without knowing each other because that then enhanced and established the conflict once Rachel learned of Alex identity of being Ajax's enemy and how he used her to basically get back at Ajax.

And that takes me to my next point, though there was plenty of love scenes and chemistry to go around that it did steamy up pages, there was still more there on an emotional stand point as well. Meeting one another and having a relationship with one another brought out issues that they were both dealing with and why they couldn't find or have healthy relationships in the past. And these were raw and deep seated emotion that just upped the intensity of the whole story. Rachel was dealing with the fact that she never felt good enough and needed to hide her true self, passion and wants and all, from others in order to play this role in the public that she was in fact perfect and never made a mistake in her life. She strived for perfection all her life because that was how her mother was and when Rachel wasn't perfect she would hear it from her mother and tell Rachel what she was doing wrong with her life especially when she made a youthful mistake that nearly sullied her reputation in the public eye. And Rachel never wanted that to happen again so she acted perfectly and chose to do things based on what others believed was right with one example being marrying Ajax, who was a steady and respectable guy that her father wanted to marry. Now as a result of playing perfect, she had to hide herself and pretend to be something she wasn't including those emotions and wants I was talking about. She hid her feelings behind the mask and they were so deep inside herself that she didn't even know her own feelings or what it meant to feel until she met Alex who just brought all these feelings to the surface and alarming rate. That scared her, but she never felt more alive than when she was with Alex and his arms. That was the reason that she gave into him so early on because she felt when they were together she could be her true self and she didn't have to hide, and that was a strange feeling for her. And again it scared her mightly as all these emotions came roaring to the surface and she had to learn to accept herself and the feelings that she had and also be with the person that she could be with and not have to pretend with.

Now in Alex's case, he had the same issue of not feeling worthy or loved. He felt because of his blood that he was tainted and evil because of the way he grew up. He believed he was poison. Plus he vowed to get revenge on Ajax so that darkened his heart as well. But Alex like Ajax grew up in drug house and a brothel where both men witnessed atrocities in their young childhood. That was headed by Ajax and Alex's father, him being the head of the brothel. Ajax had no idea that Alex was his brother and left the brothel after he nearly raped a girl and realized how wrong his father was and that lifestyle was. (This is all in Ajax's book)and left behind Alex, who constantly saw all these warped this going on in the brothel. Alex felt that his brother just left him there to suffer and didn't take him with him to save him. Not that Ajax knew he had a brother, but still that's what Alex believed should have happened . And Alex's mother was one of the prostitutes there severely addicted to heroine and was so heavily abusing drugs that the love of the drug took over her love of her son and that became a big issue for Alex later on as you can imagine. He felt no one loved him and felt that he was the reason no one did that he was some type of demon within him that made him so unlovable. Plus he had all this anger and hurt over his childhood and let revenge take over his life in seeing that Ajax pay for escaping the lifestyle while he couldn't until later on. Alex just felt stuck there while Ajax moved on and had a "perfect" life. Little did he know the truth of all that Ajax went through, which was stated in his book. He believed Ajax had everything and Alex wanted to take it away from him including Rachel, which was how the whole revenge plot came into play.

So they both pretty screwed/messed up people, and only with the help of each other were they able to heal and move on and bask in their love. It was so emotional intense throughout the book that it took me aback a bit, but that didn't make me love the book any less and made enjoy it and love it so much more. I love seeing two flawed people coming together and healing one another and falling in love and having love being the piece of the puzzle needed in their lives in order to be stronger people and healthier people that get their happily ever after together. I love those stories. And this book was no different. I loved how Rachel came out of her shell and felt so free and so herself when she was with Alex, and Alex encouraged her to be so. He wanted her not the image of her that she portrayed to the world. He didn't care about her flaws and even found that her flaws made him want her even more. Plus he showed how much he cared for her for her real self than her projected and just how much he wanted that realness from her.

While for Alex, it took a bit more for him to heal and accept her love and the fact that he was lovable and could love with his whole heart. He had a moment that I thought was beautiful when he broke down and literally fell onto his knees realizing that he was in love with her but knew he was doing the right thing by letting her go because he believed that she deserved better than him . It just took him awhile to realize that he was not in fact poison and he deserved love like everyone else. He needed to let go of his pain and anger and embrace love. Now his issues were deep seated throughout the book but it was less explored than Rachel's whose own issues took most of the focus in the entire book, but he did deal with it and come to realize that love was key he needed in order to have a happy life with Rachel.

I liked seeing how they overcame their issue both together and separately. They had some deep wounds going on for sure, and I liked how Maisey Yates set about to explore them and not shy away from them. There were very much into the forefront and I liked that it took time to deal with and talk about these issue amongst their own minds as with each other, meaning I was glad that the issues weren't just stated them quickly dealt with and then suddenly they were okay. That wouldn't have been realistic and I believe it would have diminished the emotional intensity of the book them. This was a raw and emotional read and it needed to be raw and emotion all the way through and I was happy to it was with passion thrown in, but even that passion and want that they had for one another was very much emotional based and wasn't just based on the physical. In Rachel's case, she could be herself and be the real her and actually be in touch with her real feelings and know that it was okay to do so. She didn't need to be perfect. She could just be herself. While with Alex, it was to show that it was okay to have intense, real emotions going on during love making and that he deserved to have that kind of romantic experience for himself because he wasn't dark and poisoned like he believed. So the love scenes, as hot as they were, severed another important piece to their relationship and that was emotional honest and realness and be vulnerable with someone else and that was okay because there would be no judgment just honest desire. So really it all worked together to make this powerful and emotional story. Every little bit of it, and I enjoyed every second of it.

And if you couldn't tell by my review, I enjoyed both of the characters. Each of them had their quirks and isocracy, which just made them so much more three dimensional to me. I loved how Rachel came out of her shell and could be her true self especially around Alex. I liked she had a little sassy to her and wouldn't put up with his crap. She loved needling him as did he her and it was entertaining to watch them too play off of each other. It was humorous at time in fact, which was a good balance thought from the deep heavy stuff that was going on internal and in their relationship. I really enjoyed that. Alex was quite a character as well, and much like Rachel he used a mask but his was more the charming and seductive type that hid his pain and hurt so well. I loved his charming side but I loved his other sides of his personality even the dark parts. He definitely had a tender side especially when it came to Rachel. Also liked that he abandoned his revenge against Ajax for her and was coming for her just because he wanted her and that was it. He just felt that pull towards her as did she, but there was this magnetic force that was pulling them together with the universe telling them that they needed one another. Overall I just really liked how the riled each other up and liked to push each other buttons it was really entertaining to see. Of coarse with them winding each other up, it made the passion between them really explode on the pages. It was just delicious all the way around.

Maisey Yates, you did it again and created this emotional, powerful love story that I happen to fall in love with from the storyline to the character to the passion there wasn't anything that went wrong her. I loved how every drop of emotion wrung out until there was nothing left and both character's souls were left bare and exposed to not each other but to me as the reader. I love the emotional intensity created, making me glued to those pages and see what happens next. I loved how real the characters were and how they were presented and portrayed. I loved how even though they made mistakes and were imperfect, it didn't lessen me rooting for them or their happily ever after, and I think I rooted for them even more. I was happy to see my questions answered that I had about Alex and Rachel's relationship after I had them while reading His Ring is Not Enough and wondered what the heck was up with those two and why Rachel left Ajax at the alter because it was all very mysterious. I'm glad their side of the tale got told and they got their happily ever after.

I couldn't help but rate this book but a five, partially because it is Maisey Yates's book, but also because just everything in this book worked really well together from the passion, the raw emotions, to the characters, their love, their issues, and their healing. Just everything worked even the controversial twist that happened in the beginning. This is why I will keep on reading Maisey Yates book , at least the Harlequin Presents, until she stops writing them. And she better not stop writing them and better keep coming up with more twists and turns and controversies along the way, and I know will because she likes upping her game and doing what's impossible to possible and get people rooting for characters with less than desirable traits or actions and create a love that is deserved which the reader will believe in once Maisey is done. So keep up the good work.

Como comenzar a destripar esta historia…

Creo que varias sabrán que Maisey Yates es una de mis #AutorasFetiches, pues me alegra comprobar, que por mucho que normalmente me suela gustar, no me ciega (Hablando de la historia desde mi punto de vista, claro) Honestamente, creo que mi amor por Yates es lo único que hizo que no abandonara la lectura. Y es que la cosa ya desde un inicio pintaba mal. Realmente mal.

Como decía, Maisey Yates es una autora de esas que tengo en lo alto, lo que provoca que me deprima aún más al encontrarme… Oh, sí, ¡otra drogadicta, alcohólica... y redoble de tambor! ¡Aspirante a actriz porno! #jajaja

Pero antes de meterme de lleno con la historia, pregunto: ¿Son cosas mías o las autoras últimamente no pasan de heroínas drogadictas y/o alcohólicas, expresidarias, malfoll*** ruborizadas...? En serio, parecen loritos, hablando literariamente, claro. A mí no me resultan innovadoras ni valientes por tocar un tema que comienza a ser cansino y repetitivo. Ni mucho menos sus personajes me parecen fuertes y/o memorables. Sin contar, que muchas veces dan un muy mal mensaje. Porque vienen a decir como: Sí, se puede salir de todo pero no sin antes ser esto o lo otro. Y NO ES CIERTO. Lo que demuestra lo poco o nada que se molestan en abrir sus miras y no irse por la idea básica que se tiene de “X” cosa o situación. No todo el mundo pasa por problemas o circunstancias dejándose por el camino la dignidad. Pero, claro, las “innovadoras” autoras parecen ignorar esto y parece que prefieren seguir el mismo guión y dar vueltas y vueltas al mismo bucle.

Pero volvamos con la novela de la sra. Yates.

Por un lado tenemos a Rachel Holf, 28 años. Una mujer que en el pasado se creía altruista e iba haciendo a los hombres felices con sus habilidades bucales en la entrepierna de estos... Hasta que un buen día, le pareció divertido y una buena idea grabar un vídeo en plena misión solidaria con un pobre desnutrido en el asiento trasero de un coche… Pero, oh, horror, cuando el tipo le exijjó más que una simple brizna de pan, ella, que NO era una pirómana sino solamente una sacrificada altruista, haciendo feliz al prójimo con el Don de su boca y manitas, mientras mantenía intacta su “virginidad” (Ah, se siente si terminaban con un calentón del infierno) tuvo que correr a papaito para que le sacara, UNA VEZ MÁS, las castañas del fuego.

La vida altruista y de misionera (No confundir con la postura del misionero en una cama, porque evidentemente Rachel prefiere los coches… y la velocidad de los mandos) es lo que tiene; que das sin recibir nada a cambio. Pero eres dichosa, porque sabes que haces un bien mundial:

“Al oír la palabra «orgasmo», Rachel se ruborizó. No, ella no. Los había regalado unas cuantas veces, pero nunca había experimentado uno. “

Pues nada, tras este episodio… más bien, cuando el papuchi le dijo que cerraba el grifo y que no iba a seguir costeando su “Fundación Bucal Solidaria” y que menos aún iba a estar deshaciéndose de las evidencias que dejaba por el camino (imágenes) entre misión y misión, la muchachita decidió cambiar. Es que claro, sin perras ($) la cosa no pinta nada bien. Porque habrá que poner gasolina al auto, comprar pasta dentífrica, y pelada, sin blanca, mal asunto

Y luego de su época caritativa transcurren varios años, donde se dedica a fingir ser la hija perfecta, la muñequita mediática tonta (Eh, lo dice ella; aunque yo tengo mis serias dudas de que fuera fingido esto último) Pero como el ser humano es el único animal que tropieza en la misma piedra 3 veces, la mujer parece no haber aprendido mucho del pasado, teniendo en cuenta como conoce Alexios y lo que hace.

Luego tenemos a nuestro héroe: Alexios Christofides, 26 añitos. Todo un yogurín que es «Guapo a rabiar. Pero guapo, guapo». Alexios es hermano por parte de padre de Ajax (Un Anillo No Es Suficiente) Y a decir verdad, su pasado y vida en general es doblemente peor que la del Detergente. Hijo de una yonqui y prostituta que no lo quería, huyó a los 14 años de la mansión/burdel que poseía su queridísimo padre, SIN NADA. A diferencia de Ajax, quién tuvo la fortuna de cruzarse por el camino con los Holf, Alexios se cría en la calle, se hace un sobresaliente jugador (cartas) y es ahí cuando comienza a ganar dinero. Luego, el jugador comienza a especular en la bolsa para otros y él, amasando fortunas. Y es que el chico es listo. «Guapo a rabiar. Pero guapo, guapo»… pero muy listo... Lástima que en gustos con las mujeres no lo sea tanto.

Al más puro estilo Maisey Yates, Alexios es uno de esos atormentados que tanto nos gustan. Lo que ocurre aquí, es que por momentos, el hombre tiene comentarios y/o acciones que reflejan perfectamente los 26 añitos que tiene. Y pese a que me gustó mucho él y su sentido del humor/ironías, no sé si por edad o por esa actitud de niño travieso que mostraba a veces, logró conquistarme pero no volverme loca del todo.

“—Apuesto a que la gente del edificio de enfrente estará disfrutando del espectáculo.
Se giró y saludó con la mano a quienquiera que pudiera estar viéndolo. (Desnudo)
—Dios mío, Alex, ¿es que no tienes vergüenza?”

“—¿Cómo es que no te apresuraste a colgar en tu ventana la sábana manchada con la sangre de mi virgo?
—Me echaste de tu habitación... No tuve tiempo de llevarme la sábana.”

#jajaja Ay, mientras Alexios hacía gracia, Rachel quedaba como hipócrita, porque prácticamente todos sus comentarios “chistosos” venían a colación de una “inocencia” o vergüenza que no tenía.

Y presentado a los protagonistas, continuemos.

La novela arranca con Rachel Holf y su buen amiga Alana haciendo lo que mejor se las da: ir de compras. A un mes de casarse con nuestro Detergente, Ajax, van conversando del tema en cuestión, cuando de repente, captan fregando en uno de los yates a un hombre «Guapo a rabiar. Pero guapo, guapo» y el elástico de las bragas se les cae. Entonces he aquí que se enfrascan en un grave dilema: Ponerle al Detergente, Ajax, una bonita y enorme cornamenta o mirar pero no tocar.

Pero NÁ. Como no puedo copiar y pegar y estoy de humor, os haré una rápida y clarísima transcripción de lo que vendría a ser la charla entre las 2 nenas de colegio:

Alana: —Ey, ¿te has fijado en el tipo de allí?
Rachel: —Yo… hmm… eh… ¿Te refieres al hombre «Guapo a rabiar. Pero guapo, guapo»?
Alana: —¡Sí! ¿Qué tal una canita al aire antes del bodorrio?
Rachel: —Yo… hmm… eh… no sé… ¡De acuerdo! Sí insistes.
Rachel camina en dirección a su presa.
Rachel: —Yo… hmm… eh… Hola. Yo… eh… Eres «Guapo a rabiar. Pero guapo, guapo».
Alexios: —¿Y has venido solo a decirme eso?
Rachel: —Bueno… Yo… hmm… eh… no sé… Me preguntaba si querías ver el buen trabajo que han hecho varios dentistas en mi boca y enseñarme como soy capaz de aguantar más de un minuto sin respirar.
Después de dejar a Rachel plantándose ante un completo desconocido, porque es «Guapo a rabiar. Pero guapo, guapo»… (Eso no hay quién se lo discuta, porque lo repite constantemente sin parar. Tanto, que a mí me quedó clarísimo que es lo único que la atraía de Alexios, porque yo amor no vi por ningún lado. Ni antes ni durante ni después) pues el resto, queridos míos, ya os lo podéis imaginar como sigue…

“Rebuscó en su bolso, intentando encontrar la tarjeta de la habitación. La localizó por fin, en el fondo del bolso.
—¡Gracias a Dios! —exclamó—. Vaya, eso ha sido una blasfemia, ¿verdad? —le preguntó de pronto a Alex, volviéndose para mirarlo.
—¿Por qué?
—Dar las gracias a Dios por haber encontrado la llave para que podamos… Bueno, eso es fornicación, ¿no?
—Lo será dentro de cinco minutos—dijo él.”

¿Se supone que esto debería ser gracioso? Porque yo no le encuentro el chiste por ningún lado.

Despúes de que Rachel lograra abrir AL FIN la puerta (es leeenta la pobre), se la pasan fornicando sin parar como dos conejitos en celo. Primero el preservativo de la cartera, después…

“Había llamado a recepción para que le subieran una caja."

¡UNA CAJA!

"Volvió a dejar el anillo sobre la mesilla, con una sonrisa dibujándose en sus labios."

Y yo pensé mientras leía la escenita: Japuta, ya que pones los cuernos al Detergente, al menos ten la DECENCIA de quitarte el anillo y/o olvidarte de el mientras fornicas con el otro, digo yo... Pero no. Rachel, que se siente muy culpable pero es muy romántica, le gusta tener presente, entre polvo y polvo, al venadito que la está esperando.

He leído novelitas donde las heroínas comprometidas terminan en la cama con otro, pero siempre hay algo detrás más profundo (un amor, el prometido que es un demonio, una atracción más creíble…) Rachel da la sensación de: “Antes de echarme la soga al cuello, voy a tener una aventura sexual, ¡por los viejos tiempos! Mientras mi Detergente no se entere, ¡todo perfecto!” De verás, de la forma cómo lo hace, que llega un momento que hasta con premeditación, no sé, me parece desagradable. Frívola. Más que nada porque se supone que respeta y quiere a Ajax… ¡Pues como habría sido si lo llega a odiar!

Pero aventurita sexual se va al carajo (y una segunda caja de condones se queda en recepción), cuando Rachel recoge la cartera de Alexios del suelo y… ¡Oh, my god! Descubre que es el gran rival de su venadito Ajax. Y Alexios, ni corto ni perezoso le confiesa lo que quiere:

“—Porque quiero lo que él tiene. Todo. Y ahora le he robado algo muy especial. Porque ambos sabemos que yo te he tenido primero.”

Bueno, lo que se dice el primero… primero… Pssss… Sí en esos momentos llega a conocer el pasado de la muchacha, seguramente se habría callado y no soltado ese discurso de macho neandertal.

Pero pasada la calentura… más bien cuando Rachel se da cuenta que cometió el error de buscarse de vibrador humano al enemigo de su venadito (si no, está ni se inmutaría y hubiese seguido entrenando para la noche de bodas, o mejor aún, se hubiera buscado a otro), le suplica que, por favor, no le diga al Detergente nada. Que no destroce su futuro matrimonio… Ya. Eso debió pensarlo antes de irse a la cama con un completo y absoluto extraño. Pero por suerte para ella (y desdicha mía) Alexios finalmente no va donde el Detergente, ahora venadito, y le delata lo ocurrido. Que tristeza más grande -.-

Pero lo mejor es cuando en un momento dado de la novela, la santa del siglo XXI, le espeta a Alexios que no tiene honor, puesto que le “arrebató la virginidad” #jajaja Ay, esta mujer no tiene vergüenza ni dos dedos de frente. Pero Alexios le recuerda; que él NO le robó nada. Que ella muy gustosamente se le ofreció en bandeja. Cosa que es cierta. Claro, que él aquí seguía ignorando su pasado de buena samaritana. Pero lo ignorara o no, que esta mujer tenga valor de de reclamarle por su supuesta “inocencia y virtud” es para descojonarse de la risa.

Total, que tras su escarceo sexual de una noche, llega el día de la boda y Alexios se cuela en la mansión de los Holf para llevársela con él y que no se case. Ahí ambos descubren que está embarazada, puesto que estaba en proceso de hacerse un test de embarazo cuando él irrumpe en su habitación.

Juntos se largan y… y… ¿Qué más puedo contar? Es que la historia NO TIENE NADA MÁS. Páginas y páginas con: “Cásate conmigo”. “Ahora no… Ahora sí”. “Me quieres… No me quieres”. Sin salir de la islita que Alexios ganó en una de sus apuestas, se la pegan en ese plan prácticamente TODOS los capítulos.

Y a pesar de Rachel ser la mayor (28 años) es una de las heroínas más inmaduras, cargantes e inútiles que le he leído a la señora Yates. Pobre Alexios, realmente se merecía una compañera que estuviese a su altura, no a esta mujer.

Pero claro, luego de una leer cosas como la siguiente, comprende como acabó con Rachel:

"Se dirigió hacia el altar, ignorando las miradas de los invitados. Todos ellos desconocidos, invitados de Rachel.
Porque él no había invitado a nadie. No tenía amigos. Solo clientes. Y enemigos. Únicamente tenía a Rachel."

Esto explica porque se «enchochó» con ella. ¡Por falta de afecto y no tener a nadie! #jajaja Porque hay otro momento donde él dice que prácticamente no salía. Y la soledad es muy mala y hace aflorar sentimientos que, en otras circunstancias no estarían. Porque repito: yo no olí amor por ningún lado ni antes ni durante ni después. Incluso la química entre ellos, tampoco me convenció del todo. No me quedé como: Wooow, son puro fuego juntos. No.

Una historia tambalea cuando personajes como Leah y Ajax (Un Anillo No Es Suficiente) aparecen y captan más interés que los propios protagonistas. Y eso que en su día yo cuestioné y mucho a Leah, pero tras leer ambas novelas, puedo decir con absoluta convicción: Ajax, jamio, saliste ganando. De menuda niñata, buena para nada te libraste.

Pero en definitiva, y para ir concluyendo, tras la lectura puedo decir:

1. Alexios Christofides es «Guapo a rabiar. Pero guapo, guapo».
2. Historia: Floja. Realmente flojita.
3. Lo mejor: Alexios Christofides. Es lo ÚNICO rescatable de la novela.
4. Lo peor: Rachel Holt. Es infumable hasta decir basta. De las peores heroínas que le he leído a la sra. Yates.

Y NÁ. A la espera de nuevas y próximas heroínas drogadictas y/o alcohólicas, expresidarias, malfoll*** ruborizadas, que he visto que van saliendo en inglés… ¡Hola, Abby Green! ¿Tú por aquí? Que extraaañooo :P

Harlequin Romances have ate my.brain

I've been on a kick and reading the HP books on my kindle. And there are a lot. I am trying to catch up all my unread books and its like my brain has turned to mush. They are insidious and addictive and very very dangerous. I love reading them, and I'm all twitterpated when its over. But they are not real. And sometimes, I unconsciously hold a grudge against my husband for not being that romantic and its just not fair. I should never have kicked him off the bed and onto the floor. I feel bad but I digress. Where was I going with this?

This hero who is of course a billionaire has sex with the heroine for revenge against her then fiance but he really is consumed with her. On the day of their wedding, he shows up and is going to try and talk her out of the marriage because she belongs to him. He is obsessed. She is there taking a pregnancy test, and knows she cannot marry the hero. The run off and leave the wedding and go to his private island. In the meantime, her fiance marries her sister. I read that book and it was good. They definitely talked a lot about the relationship and the baby and their pasts as children and they are falling in love. even if the hero doesn't see it. There is another wedding, and this time he jilts her. it was sad. They both had mommy issues. His was very very bad. Eventually he pulls his head out and of course the epilogue was charming. I really liked this book and the message at the end was basically make every day a magic day. Grasp the joy with both hands and never let it go.

I read the other reviews before starting this book but didn't heed their warnings. Oh no ... I have to form my own opinion, so I decided to read it anyway. Yeah, I made it to Chapter 6 before I threw it into the corner like a pitcher throwing a fastball.

It started off promisingly enough when the two main characters meet but quickly went down hill when the promising chemistry between them fizzles to nothing.

Rachel is annoying and way too immature for a 28 year old. I had no desire to lust after Alex soooo, yeah...not a good male protagonist. Put the two together and you get .... yaaaawwwnnnn!!

I usually like Maisey Yates' books. This one I will be throwing into the trash. Not even passing it to that woman in my office that annoys the crap out of me. Sorry Maisey. :(

I thought I'd love this as I really enjoyed her sisters story but I could not find either of these 2 particularly likable. If fact I hated the h more than the H as she was just wishy washy.

I actually don't mind if she puts her own dumb life at risk by taking drugs and drinking but when you get behind the wheel of a car and ponce about then I'm sorry the line has been crossed and you are into dangerous OW nastiness.

I'm sorry I just can't respect her plus she was dumb enough to make a sex tape ffs and then expects daddy dearest to bail her out. Plus she then bitched about how shes had to tow the good girl line for the last 12 years but with squillions of dollars to help her do it poor iccle her boo hoo. Apparently the H sets her free to going back to being her true self so what shes going to be a drink driving sex tape making Kardashian then?

As for the Toy Boy H I was surprised to find he was only 26 years old as he seemed to have an old head on his shoulders however, he did act rather immaturely with his revenge so maybe I can believe it. Plus his revenge was stupid.

Neither of these characters were particularly likeable but the H seemed to mature more than the h their kid is going to have serious issues with these 2 numpties for parents.

Long on the physical and short on plot, but it filled in from "His Ring is not Enough"- Rachel has left her long-time fiance, Ajax, at the altar, and takes up with Ajax's enemy. I would have liked it better if there had been more plot development.

This was a disappointing read. It started well with an interesting premise, but went off the rails rather quickly. I'm never a fan of overlapping stories like this (there was nothing on the ebook to indicate that it is part of a series or I wouldn't have picked it up). Layering in more than one story line is always at the expense of the main narrative, and however well drawn the extraneous characters might be in their own story (which is not very, judging by this effort) they are little more than cardboard cutouts when dragged on stage in this one.

The series effect is only partially to blame for the dragging story line though. The author, having set up this intriguing situation, doesn't seem to know what to do with it. So she parks her couple on a private island together, where they debate whether they are together--even though they are together--and ekes out the story line with gratuitous sex scenes and pointless business trips. Compounding the problem is that the characterization is very uneven. The hero and heroine are unrecognizable from one chapter to the next. All of which makes for a less than satisfying romance that reaches its dramatic climax when two men, who are strangers to each other, have the least realistic conversation ever. Outside of a Hallmark movie, that is.

And by the way, Ajax and Alex? Could she have picked two more easy-to-confuse names for her competing heroes?

I am a huge Maisey Yates fan - she brings a modern slant to old tropes, and she writes articulate, emotional and sensual stories that engage and entertain. Her heroes can be cold and cruel but are always redeemable by the heroine's love. That just totally satisfies the romantic in me.

I read "His Ring is not enough" and absolutely loved Leah and Ajax's story and wondered what Rachel and Alex's would be like. Well, it's every bit as good - tortured, emotive, satisfying and sexy.

I've seen some critical comments on here with 1 star reviews and am puzzled by them. I know people expect and tolerate different things, but I didn't feel Rachel's mistakes when she was 16 warranted such vituperative and cruel comments. However, that's me - I like sometimes to see a heroine who has walked on the wild side a little. In this instance, poor Rachel didn't do that much but unfortunately fell victim to an exploitative and unpleasant man.
Thankfully Alex doesn't hold her past against her - and why should he? He has a tortured back story that links with Ajax from the first book and I just loved the way that was worked out and achieved a happy ending for Ajax and Alex - as well as for the hero and heroine. Brilliant story-telling.

Great follow up to Leah and Ajax’ Story. I really enjoyed it and don’t understand the negative comments about Rachel’S past. As always Maisey writes a great story with fascinating characters. Loved the way Alex and Ajax come together.

La trama gira en torno a dos personajes principales: Alexios Christofides,magnate griego con un temperamento que mezcla la determinación y la venganza, y Rachel Holt, una joven atrapada en el papel de la prometida perfecta pero que anhela romper con las cadenas de su vida monótona.

Desde el principio, la autora nos muestra la notable disparidad entre los protagonistas. Alexios es un hombre que ha aprendido a conseguir lo que quiere a toda costa, incluso si ello implica manipular a los demás. It was ok, however I believe she still would have married Ajax (hero from 1st book) if Alex had not shown up. I highly doubt after 11 years of doing what's expected of her that she could have called it off. She was a cheater and didn't even have the decency to tell Ajax before the wedding, almost trapping him with another man's baby. I liked the hero, he stayed celibate after meeting heroine. He was never truly cruel and even when he said something that hurt her it was to push her away because he thought he wasn't worthy. P.

Interesante conocer la incognita que nos queda al comemzar el primer libro y saber de la cancelacion de la boda de Rachel con Ajax...aqui descubrimos el motivo y el camino que recorreran sus protagonistas para alcanzar el ansiado final feliz que todas queremos, claro primero debemos aguantar las ganas de extrangular a Alex por ser tan terco y por menospreciarse a si mismo por su pasado...tenia que salir igualito al hermano...

Maisey Yates'in romanlarını okumayı seviyorum Kara melek başlarda oldukça güzel başlayıp güzel gitti. Fakat sonlara doğru yazar sanırım yazmaktan sıkıldı sonunu pek de iyi bağlamadı bence. En azından daha az saçmalasaydı keşke. İntikam planı yapan bir adam son derece kararlı idi .. İntikam alaağı adamın nişanlısı hoop diye kucağına düşer hikaye hızlanır ama sonradan temposu düştü...Yine de tatil de olanlar için tam bir şezlong hikayesi...

I must say, this is the worst book I have ever read... I usually always leave "five stars". It started off good then all of a sudden they were talking about the same stuff over and over, Rachel also started sounding like a young girl and not the 28 year old women she is!!!!

It started out good, then fell very flat in the middle all the way until the end. It was just little petty fights back and forth and I ended up skimming though it to the end. I really didn't enjoy the book.
