Remember how invincible you were as a teen? You’re going to live forever, always looking good, etc., etc.? That is exactly how Izzy felt, but then it happened, Fate, a crash and the Angel of Death has been summoned. His name is Asher, he is hot, powerful and efficient, and he has decided that Fate will be thwarted this day. Huge mistake, huge…but his attraction to this human is 100% of the heart. Izzy lives, but she is changed, has she become an abomination or something else? Is there now a bullseye on her back with the supernatural world gunning for her soul? Can Asher protect her or is Fate going to go all out to have her way? Death should never have fallen in love with a human; the consequences can be, well, deadly.

Grab your passports to adventure, humor, and the world of the supernaturals, as Izzy and Asher, along with their best friends and comedic relief, the Grim Reaper and Gwen travel into territory never before traveled. Wings of Darkness by Sherri Wingler had my undivided attention from page one! It was insta-love for Izzy and Asher, as well as their relationship as it deepens. Ms. Wingler has created two characters that are practically flawless together between Izzy’s spark and Asher’s, um, Asherness! Don’t get me started on the Grim Reaper and Gwen, these two are beyond priceless!

Between a great plot, with enough bends and twists to keep you hanging on tight, a cast of characters that are extremely well-developed and play off each other perfectly, surprises, tension and the joy of more to come, Sherri Wingler has set the bar high for the paranormal genre!

Wings of Darkness is a must read new young adult series by Sherri A. Wingler.

When the Angel of Death shows up for his latest acquisition, he finds an unexpectedly stubborn soul belonging to Izzy. It wasn't her time to pass on, but for some reason she keeps separating from her body. In a rash decision, Asher (the Angel of Death) gives Izzy his blood to secure her soul back into her body; a decision that will change the world as they know it...setting in motion events that will rock their world. Events Fate has long been orchestrating and is unhappy with their interference.

Undeniably memorizing! Wings of Darkness sucked me right in and kept me hook, line and sinker. Powerfully unpredictable and keeping you guessing until the end, I found this story to be a white knuckle, page turning read.

I am anxious to see where this will head next as well as some of the open plot directions coming to full fruition.

I received this copy of Wings of Darkness from Sherri Wingler in exchange for a honest review.

This has to be Twilight fanfiction. Or maybe Fifty Shades fanfiction. Whatever.

It started with one practically flawless scene, and then...

...and after that...

...it got utterly ridiculous.

If it had stayed with the Meet Joe Black-vibe this would have been an interesting book, largely differing from the huge wash of oh so silly, juvenile PNR out there with its teenage super-heroines beating the high school prom and toxic high school life the USA seem to sport.

Alas, no such luck.

Full Review:
I used to think I didn’t like books about angels, period. But then I read this one.

See, I don’t like when angels, as a whole species, are portrayed as cruel, terrible creatures. I also don’t like angel-demon wars with a broad scope that are more focused on good versus evil with martyrs for characters. But this book was neither of those things.

This book was about the characters, plain and simple. It was tightly focused on Izzy and Asher (who was a bit stalkerish but otherwise good) and their lives, their desires, and their emotions—just how I like my books.

Also, these angels weren’t guardians or warriors, they were reapers. They could do some battling if they had to, but their real job was to harvest the souls of those who die and send them off. I had never read about reapers before, but it turns out I find them a lot more interesting.

Now, moving on from my likes and dislikes when it comes to angels… this book was hilarious! You would think that, the love interest being the Angel of Death and all, it wouldn’t be funny, but it really was. Some of the scenes themselves were just fantastic, but each character was also funny in his or her own way, whether it was their sarcasm, teasing, jokes, behavior, or genuine thoughts. And because I can’t resist sharing some quotes… (The first two are Izzy’s POV, the second two are Asher’s.)

[Inside Walmart]

“Iz, are you talking to yourself again?” Well, crap. I looked like a lunatic standing there talking to herself. Gwen couldn’t see Asher.
[. . .]
“Just trying to blend in,” I answered casually.

I tried to shove Asher away, but it was like moving stone. He intended to comfort me, and by God he was going to do it. Whether I wanted him to, or not.

Taking great handfuls of his dark hair, she commenced to bash his head into the ground. Repeatedly. Such a delicate little flower.

But Grim (aka the grim reaper) was the most hilarious one of all. I loved him! He was cocky and playful and deranged and messed up in the head, but he owned it. He is who he is, so he just does his thing.

Above me, blood and feathers fell nearly as heavily as the rain which lashed us. Clearly, Grim was keeping himself busy. He loved a battle. I could hear him laughing as he fought. Crazy bastard.

I also liked the dual POV and was happy that the two voices actually sounded different. It brought a good balance and perspective to the story.

What I didn’t like so much though was that I wasn’t sure what exactly the characters were trying to achieve by the end. Maybe it’s a personal preference, but I like to know the goal in books, otherwise I feel like I’m meandering. I also would’ve liked more angst, but that’s definitely a personal preference. If you’re tired of angst, you’ll be happy to know the characters in this book are quite well-adjusted :-P There were also a few YA tropes, like the mean girl at school. But none of these were overwhelming or major issues.

Overall it was a book I enjoyed enough to continue the series, especially since I loved the humor and couldn’t resist knowing what would happen to these characters next!

Meet Isabel, she is a 17 year old girl who unfortunately was in a sever car accident. Her life is about to change forever and so is yours as you read this story, you will not be able to put this book down so easily I promise you that. Like Demons? Angels? Greek Mythology? Yes? Then read on my friends….

Isabel awakes in the hospital, her life forever changed she doesn’t know it yet, but she will. We soon meet Asher, who is the Angel of Death (I may or may not have a thing for angels/demons just sayin). So Isabel becomes very important to Asher and he to her. Why? Well he sorta does something he isn’t suppose to do, so there may or may not be a binding of sorts. Anyway, there is way more here to that story and the twists and turns will keep you holding on to your tablet/book till you find what out the heck is going!!! lol. Fate she is a total…….well she is a bi*%h! lol. Gwen who is Isabel’s bf I adore her! Love her sass!! She is one girl you want on your side! She will defend Isabel to the end!

Oh my god I almost forgot to mention Grim……*sighs- well he is Asher’s brother, so what’s that tell you? *shakes head no…-not telling you (read the book). I did mention I have a “thing” for Angels-Demons right? Well Grim is very much one of those and he is also a “bad” boy. Like bad boy types? This is your “man”. I found an interview with him too on the author’s blog.

Is there is an HEA?? hmmm I sure hope so. There is a great cliffhanger that I believe totally leads up to an amazing series that I know I am gonna love.

I won a ecopy of this book but I upgraded to the audio version. My reading experience is based on the audio.

I'm going to start with the narrator. She did a great job. Her voice was soothing and captured the emotions of the Izzy the main character. Now the narrator who read for Asher was completely sultry and I will probably be having sweet dreams about him. I was impressed with the job they did.

I was completely immersed in the story. It grabbed me from the beginning and I was hooked. I just adored the main character Izzy but my favorite character was Emily. Emily was the perfect snarky side kick. She helped balance out the drama that was going on and allowing a bit of humor. Asher sounds yummy. I think if someone were to stalk me and turn me into something I would pick Asher to do it. I loved the flow and balance of this story and look forward to reading the rest of the series.

I had a couple of favorite parts so I'm going to try and be vague as to not give much away. I loved the haunted house scene. I could easily imagine it and haunted houses are one of my favorite things. It was detailed oriented and hit a few fear spot inside of me. My other favorite part is when Izzy talks to Asher especially in the beginning. With no one being able to see Asher it looks like she is talking to herself. I could see it in the grocery store and it made me spit my water out thinking of it.

I would recommend this book to any of my paranormal loving friends.

Warning Contains Spoilers !!
Isabel is your run of the mill ordinary girl, a bit of loner at times but still ordinary. Until the crash ... She should be hurt, she nearly died, so why is she healing in days? Simple. Because of Asher.
He shouldn't have interfered at the crash. He should have let her go. But it wasn't her time, her soul wasn't ready. Above all else he just couldn't leave her go so he gave her his blood and now the heavens will come raining down on this innocent, clueless girl. His girl.
As the bond between the two deepen countless obstacles are thrown in their way ... and let's not forget all the beings out for her life. Can't forget those. Can Asher and Izzy survive and overcome long enough to learn just what exactly Izzy is becoming and how deep the bond between these two impossible beings goes?

This is a great start to a promising new series. I did feel a little frustrated at times as Asher and Izzy got so close to being together and then ... nope. Nada. Something or someone comes between them. Different to most fantasy/romance and in a way mystery series out at the moment. This focuses more on the darker side of tales and heroes. It kept me guessing (and still guessing) as to what the hell was going on and that in turn kept me turning the pages devouring the story. One of the best characters for me was Grim. Absolutely LOVED him and can't wait for his story to be told. He made me laugh and kinda swoon and I loved his much darker side to Ashers.
Now the ending. Yeah. WTF? Did not see that coming and a brilliant way to build anticipation for the second book.
Why not 5 stars?
Like I said the will they won't way did kind of frustrate me and hope it won't frustrate me more through the second book to the point of giving up with those two. There is a lot going on and hopefully a lot still to come that is more than enough to carry the story. That being said I did thoroughly enjoy this and would recommend, I will also be keeping my eye out for the second book.

Review of Wings of Darkness By Sherri Wingler
This book had me hooked from the beginning and refused to let me sleep. I have been up two nights reading this and loving every single moment. Wings of Darkness is everything I look for in a book. Witty, endearing, clever and addictive. If at the end of a book I am disappointed I live in the real world, then that book has done its job. This was most definitely the case with this book.
It is very rare that I read a book in which I love the protagonist. Izzy is the exception. I loved this character from the get-go. Isabel is a spit-fire, it’s sometimes hard to create a strong female character without her coming across bitter, but I found myself loving Izzy. I was right there with her feeling her pain, anxiety and more often than not anger.
Asher is a perfect leading man. His contrasting tough and tender sides make him likeable and I found myself rooting for him every step of the way. Lesser character, such as Gwen and Grim are also well written. Sherri Wingler has a fantastic flair for creating detailed and relatable characters.
The plot is brilliant and kept me guessing throughout. The twists and turns that Sherri Wingler weaves through a normal teenage life is exciting and makes every page an adventure. The connection between Asher and Izzy knocks Bella and Edward out of the park, sorry all you Twilighters. I found myself slowing down towards the end, as I simply didn’t want it to end.
I don’t know what I expected when I began reading this. I had not expected to find one of my all-time favourite books. I can’t wait for the next instalment and would not be surprised if between now and then the world becomes flooded with Sherri Wingler fans.

“I did not lay a hand on her, and yet her soul floated free above her body. It hung there, a beautiful shade of shimmering rose gold; an old soul in a young body”

So say’s Asher upon meeting Izzy in the Prologue. (See Amazon for the taster ‘Look Inside’)

These words drew me in and so I downloaded the book and commenced reading immediately. It is so much more than I could ever have expected especially as it was a freebie at the time recommended by ‘Bookworm’, simply amazing.

The experiences encountered by the characters are very different from other books of this nature and I was totally drawn in. With such descriptive writing the images that were conjured filled me with awe. I thoroughly recommend reading this book it gave me such a craving for what was to follow, always wanting to know what will happen at the turn of the page and yes it is a little frustrating as it gives you a hunger. It left me always ready to devour the next chapter and at times I was even moved to tears.

This Book 1 ‘Wings of Darkness’ is only the appetiser for ‘The Immortal Sorrows’ series. I am sure it will easily fit in-between books belonging to fans of the greats such as ‘The Twilight Saga’. This series could open up whole new worlds and could lead to lots of exciting short stories too. I cannot wait for the next instalment. Don’t take my word for it, you will not know until you try it for yourself. Happy Reading :-)

Wings of Darkness, the first of The Immortal Sorrows series is an incredibly infectious read that takes over you, and won't let you go until you have found out more.
When Isabel (Izzy) is in a car accident in the opening scenes and and the Angel of Death, Asher, interferes you know it is the beginning of an incredible journey, and one you can not help but want to know. Then when is Izzy suddenly begins healing at such a fast rate and you can almost sense a change in her from the beginning, your own questions urge you on to find out more.
This gripping story has you on the edge of your seat many times, for me the first heart racing moment was in the haunted house, this scene not only had me laughing out loud in places but had me drawn in wanting more! I knew if I was the one with Izzy that night I would of died of fright.
Wings of Darkness brings together two unlikely leading characters that you instantly fall in love with, and are constantly willing them together through out. Aside from the main characters you have a great bunch of minor characters - from Izzy's best friend Gwen, a friend who everybody wants to have; And Grim (I won't spoil who he is) but he had me roaring with laughter-I hope we see more of them both throughout the series.
A great story from beginning to end (and what an end) - it begs you for more, I can not wait for book two and would recommend this book to people of all ages...

I don't want to give away any spoilers so I am going to keep my review short and to the point.

I absolutely loved this book. I can't wait to read what the rest of the series has to offer.
I love how Sherri made the Angel of Death and his Reapers not seem so evil.
Yes, some of them fit that bill, but the ones that mattered seemed to bring life to death (if that makes sense).
Izzy and Asher are great characters. They are not your everyday run of the mill storyline. Being able to put a spin on what many people view as a dark thing is truly amazing.

I hope the second book comes out soon so that we may be able to figure out what happens between Asher and Izzy. I am beyond curious to know how things will end up.

impressive first novel

I sit in stunned silence contemplating the fate of Izzy, Asher, Grim and Gwen...a story can pull you in and make you part of story, an active participant, this novel definitely does. who would think that the grim reaper could feel love...that Fate could be so cruel. I struggle to find the words that contain the admiration I have for the author in writing such a wonderful book. The pages in my Kindle could not be swiped as quickly as I wanted. I just know this book is one of the best novels I have read in awhile...highly highly recommend....beautifully written....and sad that the book ended....wow!

An enjoyable story about a young car crash victim, Isabel, who survives her fatal injuries because the Angel of Death, Archer, doesn’t think her time has come. Archer continues to watch over and eventually she becomes aware of his presence. Because he has given her some of his divine blood, Izzy is no longer quite human but an unknown species that the immortals want to eliminate. A wonderful story that I hope to continue. Well-written with fantastic characters throughout.

LOVED this book! I couldn't put this little gem down. I stayed up late just to finish it! I loved these characters. I really wish we would've gotten more time with Izzy and Asher but I'm excited for the next book. I hope we get more Gwen and Grim too. They would be cute together...... And I HOPE Fate gets her ass handed to her. She needs a serious smack down.

I have only amazing things to say about Wings of Darkness by Sherri Wingler. This book’s plot is well executed and suspenseful, with humor in all the right parts. It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book that I just don’t want to put down. The action started right at the opening scene as Asher, the Angel of Death decides to intervene with Fate (well, I guess Fate isn’t around just yet, but you know what I mean!) and bind Isabel to him – with his blood! This is when I started to go a little crazy (in a good way) trying to guess what was going on with Isabel. I found myself immediately connecting with her and thoroughly enjoyed how strong she is for a protagonist.

One of the most memorable scenes in the book was the haunted house. I can’t wait for Halloween now! That scene was so much fun but I really enjoyed when it transitioned into something much darker. The entire scene had me on the edge of my seat and it set the perfect tone for the rest of the book.

So many awesome, well-developed characters in this book, and I’d really like to commend Ms. Wingler on that one. I am more than ready for book 2 to be released after that ending...why?! I need more Sherri Wingler and The Immortal Sorrows story pronto.

If it’s not obvious, I highly recommend this book. If you’re a paranormal romance lover or mystery seeker then you will want to check this out. You will not be disappointed.

Blows The Mortal Instruments out of the water!
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this book. I suspected I'd probably start it and find it was another on those Twilight clones. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed them, a lot, but there are some real stinkers out there.
Thankfully, I was delighted when I was drawn in from the first page with Sherri's wonderful writing style. The story does have parallels with The Twilight and Mortal Instrument books, in that a normal girl finds forbidden love, but the way it's told is frankly amazing.
It's written in first person, each chapter being told through the eyes of either Izzy(Isabel), the heroine, or from the eyes of Asher; Ashmael, the Angel of Death. This is a brilliant move on the authors part. Not many people can do first person POV well, but Sherri nails it.
The story is deep and the plot line twists and turns like a corkscrew that's been over tightened. It is the characters, however, that will keep you reading...and reading...and reading. I seriously couldn't put this book down.
The two main protagonists are backed up by a subcast of deep and well developed friends. There's even the Grim Reaper in here!
The enemy is likewise sufficiently well written that you will genuinely loathe her.
What results is probably the best paranormal romance I've ever read. In fact, I'd put it up there with one of the best books I've ever read, and I intend to get book two as soon as I post this review.

I devoured this book. Everything about this story was simply perfection.
The description of...everything are so amazing that you feel like you are right there with the characters.
Speaking of which, can we just bottle up Asher's scent? Maybe make a candle out of it? Because that needs to happen. I need that in my life.
The characters we so well written. I could picture all of them (even the secondary characters).
The whole premise of the story is great. I love me some Angel of Death stories.
My only issue, the WTF ending. I mean, it was good. Great really. But it leaves me wanting MORE! Like, book #2 needs to be in my hands right now.
Ms. Wingler is an amazing storyteller. This book needs to be in your life, right now!

This book was recommended to me by a friend and I’m glad I picked it up.
I really enjoyed this book it had great pace, not too slow and not too fast. I enjoyed the story and the characters, some more than others. It had plenty of action, humor and some nice twist and turns in it.
I liked Izzy, she was a strong character and didn’t crack under pressure, and she did what had to be done, no matter what it could mean to her. Though she had moments where see seemed a little childish but giving the things she is going through it was forgivable.

This is the first time reading anything by this author and I already purchased the sequel. :) This is a great read for young adults or later teenage years as it has swearing. This also is a great story for readers of romance or readers that like to read about angels. The characters are likable despite they are viewed as something negative. And I especially love this story as it had the ending I was not expecting.

I will admit...I don't like romance novels...at all. Romance should be in a book, but I don't like it when it is the main focus. I didn't realize the amount of romance in this when I purchased it. I realized it pretty quickly and debated about stopping reading then. I decided against it and I am so glad that I did. The book got better and better. The characters were amazing. Sherri created a wonderful villain and I hate her. Lol. I can't wait till I have the time to get my hands on the sequel and continue the series.

I'm so glad this wasn't scary, it's lovely.

This is the first book I've read by this author, and since it's about death I thought it might be scary. It's more about love than death, and though there are scary elements, and certainly some sadness, it's so beautifully written I have to read more by her. I intend to continue with this series.

Sherri! I finished book1. I loved it. There were only a couple of spots when I wasn't sure who was talking! Mostly it was with Asher. But what was really impressive was the ease with which you handled the concepts. Loved it. Is this a YA? I'm wondering now about Grim and Gwen. The pacing was just right. I enjoyed reading Wings of Darkness!
