Ivy discovers a black slime in her bag, and immediately, wonders how to care for it, nevertheless how to carry it. Thankfully, she can send faxes to her friends to get the fantasy 411 on the care and keeping of a brand-new friend! And as the bitter, cold winter turns to a warm, welcoming spring, Ivy sets their eyes on new horizons and new places. Now, where will their adventures take them next?
While I do found it an enjoyable read much like the earlier volumes in the series, the suggested main plot was a bit of a disappointment. Yeah, it started relatively strong (even though I am no fan of the trope being used), but then just fizzled out when things are quickly resolved without much input by Ivy and her family. What remains is an endearing slice-of-life of winter hunts, spring time travel and some interaction with monsters both violent and friendly. Still, I enjoy slice-of-life, especially when I like the characters involved, so I did really like the book despite its flaws.
Book 6 of The Weakest Tamer sees the story pick up in pace, introducing more forward momentum and raising the stakes slightly. However, a central plot point involving memory loss unfortunately exacerbates the series most persistent narrative flaw: excessive repetition.
The already over-explained inner thoughts and frequent reiteration of past events become even more prominent, as the characters and by extension, the reader are constantly walked through what they’ve forgotten or need to recall. This narrative device, while conceptually interesting, ends up highlighting the author’s tendency to rehash information rather than trusting the audience to follow along. As a result, what could have been a compelling twist only underscores the weaknesses in the series’ storytelling approach.
While I still finished this volume, I probably won't buy the next. Each scene started to become boring and repetitive. I couldn't count how many times a page went like this, " 'oh that's so strange' it was really strange. 'Yeah, I think that's strange' it was strange because it was unsure. Oh well." Characters repeatedly forgot or expounded on things we already knew. Using amnesia as a plot device just made it worse. It had is moments and I liked the premise of the story. However, the writing is failing to give a clear picture of the world and all the tension and drive to the plot has evaporated at this point.
It is an interesting, giving me a good laugh, part of the series. And there is some serious growth for the characters. I just feel like there is a lot going on at once that made things a little jumbled. This could also be a translation problem, but time skips were not 100% clear which took a double take to read. But the story line as is, is still really good and smooth sailing.

Ivy continues making monster friends, a new slime joins the party and a herd of serpents accompany them to the next village. My favorite character is the serpent leader, it just sounds so cute and I love reptiles.
I didn't notice before but the title really is accurate, they go to the dump almost every other day to feed the slimes and pick up stuff they might need. Now I'm tempted to keep reading just to see how Sol will evolve next.
It was nice to know how all of the people Ivy knew are doing well. It’s also nice to know that at least one of her family regrets how they treated her. I feel Ivy’s old hometown won’t be around much longer. I want to feel sorry for them but karma can be pretty nasty at times.
It always feels good when a favourite series releases a new volume. Ivy and Druid are so darn cute! I'm going to be honest though, because of the time between the releases, I'm having a really hard time keeping up with the names of the people from her past. It's so cosy though I just love this series so much.
Ivy, and Druid and their adventures alongside Ivy’s little companions continue in this volume. Ivy met her newest companion and formed a friendship with a unique creature and the story goes on.
Ivy and Druid are getting ready to continue their journey! What will then find on the journey? And will they find a solution to how to fed Sol on their travels?
