How to Manifest

Rate this book
A groundbreaking, science-backed approach to manifesting the life of your dreams

At age nineteen, Lacy Phillips’s life was a mess, and in desperation, she turned to a book on manifesting. She followed the book to a T, then sought out everything else she could find on manifesting and followed that, too. There was only one None of it was working.

Eventually, Lacy threw away all those manifestation books and began paying close attention to her own patterns and inner wisdom. She noticed what was going on internally that allowed her to manifest in some areas but not in others. Over the course of several years, she developed her own unique formula for manifestation, later teaming up with MDs and healers to make her system as effective and science-backed as possible.

After radically changing her own life through this process, Lacy started teaching it to friends and individual clients. As their lives began to transform, their networks started to seek her out, too. Soon there was a massive tribe of manifesters out there living the lives of their dreams.

Weaving together stories from Lacy’s own journey and those of her clients while offering clear, practical, step-by-step guidance in a warm, no-nonsense tone, How to Manifest reveals the real secret to We do not manifest from our thoughts. We manifest from our subconscious beliefs. This is, in essence, the opposite of most other manifestation processes. While they say you must train your thoughts to remain positive, How to Manifest teaches you how to transform your subconscious beliefs about what you do and do not deserve and what is possible for you. It helps you take advantage of neuroplasticity to rewire your subconscious mind to align with your greatest, most authentic desires. And this is exactly how you will be able to attract those desires into your life.

Lacy has already helped tens of thousands of people achieve their dreams through her To Be Magnetic program. Now it’s your turn. Discard the complicated techniques, rituals, and formulas that are not getting you anywhere, and start manifesting the life you most desire—and deserve.

First, it’s important to note that I’ve been a member of the To Be Magnetic’s Pathway for over five years. This process absolutely works and it’s more accessible, less expensive and more effective than any therapy I’ve ever done (and I’ve done a LOT). That being said, there is nothing new in this book for Pathway members who are well seasoned in the process of neural manifestation.

Perhaps it is eyeopening for those who have been following superstitious manifestation practices and haven’t seen results, but it was still deeply lacking in the scientific explanations that support its validity. (Or that was just my perspective since I read a lot more scientifically backed non-fiction books than the average person). You can hear all about the science on the accompanying Expanded podcast, but I was expecting more in the book, with scientific references, even though I don’t need to be convinced.

A glossary of all their brand jargon would have been helpful for newbies. There is one in the Pathway, and since so much of the book is a carbon copy of the actual workshops, I’m shocked that didn’t make it into the book.

I found the writing to be very flat and repetitive, just like the podcasts and workshops. It wasn’t engaging for seasoned, loyal, practitioners at all.

Also, it’s time for new examples. While romantic partner and career success are universal and highly desirable manifestations, the examples were the same ones they’ve been spewing for a decade. I would have appreciated more nuanced, complex examples.

The examples are written in such a way that the process comes across as a very linear—it is anything but. There were so many opportunities to expand upon the personal nuances available and that they didn’t, almost felt misleading. The process is simple in theory, but it’s not as easy and going down a checklist and all of a sudden your life changes.

This work takes years to truly grasp. You need the workshops to go deeper and the Deep Imaginings for reprogramming the subconscious. None of that is available in the book, so it’s really just a lead magnet for the Pathway (which is fine, but had I been new and uninformed, I would have been disappointed).

There was very little discussion about the critical importance of nervous system regulation, which is one of the most powerful and life-changing benefits of this work. With a regulated nervous system, the quality of your life and relationships improves astronomically. From there, the old beliefs get rewritten, new behaviors and boundaries are easier to adapt, and things start to flow. The various ways to regulate (either while doing the DIs or just in daily life) weren’t explored either. This was another missed opportunity.

TL;DR:
If you’re new to To Be Magnetic — Consider this book an intro, and then get the Pathway membership if you’re serious about co-creating the next level of your life.

For seasoned TBMers — Don’t waste your time.

Book Review: How to Manifest by Lacy Phillips
Rating: 4.5/5

Reactions & Emotional Impact
Lacy Phillips’ How to Manifest delivers a refreshing antidote to the oversimplified “think positive” dogma saturating the manifestation genre. As a skeptic of traditional Law of Attraction teachings, I was intrigued by Phillips’ neuroscience-backed approach—particularly her emphasis on subconscious belief rewiring over forced positivity. Her personal narrative—from disillusioned seeker to founder of the acclaimed To Be Magnetic program—lends authenticity, while client success stories (tastefully woven without spoilers) offer tangible proof of her methodology. The chapter on neuroplasticity as manifestation’s engine sparked a revelatory shift in my own mindset; I caught myself auditing subconscious scripts about worthiness mid-read. Phillips’ blend of scientific rigor (collaborations with MDs) and spiritual insight creates a rare bridging text—equally at home on a psychologist’s shelf or a yogi’s altar.

Strengths
-Science Meets Soul: Phillips dismantles manifestation clichés with fMRI studies and neural pathway research, validating her process for academic audiences. Her Pathway framework aligns with established trauma therapy models (e.g., Internal Family Systems).
-Practical Scaffolding: The book’s step-by-step exercises (like belief audits and somatic triggers) are actionable without being prescriptive—a relief after vague visualize and wait advice.
-Inclusive Tone: Addresses systemic barriers to self-worth (e.g., Why don’t I believe I deserve abundance?) rarely acknowledged in mainstream manifestation literature.
-No Toxic Positivity: Phillips permits frustration and grief as part of the process—a humane touch that fosters trust.

Constructive Criticism
-Accessibility Gaps: Some neuroscience concepts could benefit from simpler analogies for readers unfamiliar with terms like default mode network.
-Cultural Scope: While acknowledging privilege, the book leans heavily on Western individualism; collectivist cultural perspectives on co-creation are underexplored.
-Tech Integration: A companion app or digital tool (beyond her existing membership program) could enhance interactive learning.

Final Thoughts
This isn’t just another manifestation manual—it’s a neuropsychological toolkit for self-liberation. Phillips doesn’t promise magic; she architects a rewiring process where desires align with deep truth. Ideal for critical thinkers craving substance beyond ask the universe platitudes.

Gratitude:
Thank you to the Penguin Random House and Edelweiss for the gifted copy—this arrived as I questioned why certain goals felt perpetually out of reach, offering answers I didn’t know I needed.

Why 4.5?
Docked slightly for jargon hurdles, but How to Manifest is a paradigm-shifting contribution to personal development literature.

Key Themes for Further Study:

-Subconscious belief formation in childhood trauma
-Comparative analysis with other science-backed manifesting texts (e.g., The Manifestation Journal)
-The role of vagus nerve regulation in magnetic states
-Ethical considerations in monetizing manifestation coaching
-Cross-cultural manifestations of abundance mindsets
A must-read for anyone tired of manifestation clichés and ready for rooted transformation.

I started reading the book 4 days into doing the money challenge (if you are on the TBM app you know what this is), and it has helped me find so much more clarity as I have stepped through the challenge. I understand my patterns/ limiting beliefs so much more- I feel like I have been unblocking at an incredible pace, peeling back so many layers of my limiting beliefs. I have not yet finished the book nor the challenge, but I actually am planning on finishing both right before the first book club live call. In these three weeks, so much has come through for me. I have finally, after years of feeling so lost, gotten so much clarity on the path that I want to take career-wise, and even more importantly, am willing to step through the fear and take aligned action. I have leveled up my self-worth around abundance immensely, and I have already manifested a 50% pay raise in my freelance work. Most importantly, I see my patterns and am able to so consciously change my reaction to triggers/ test/ low self-worth scenarios. I really feel like a new person, and I just couldn't be more grateful. Thank you so much!!!

I listened to this book and was disappointed Lacy didn’t read more of it. It makes the text confusing about who wrote it when the other reader takes over.
Also, while I don’t have a problem with the other reader (she is the host of the podcast which I listen to regularly) she is not a compelling reader, which takes away from the potential impact of this book. I’ve been a member and practitioner of TBM for several years so I understand the value of this method but the audio version of this book falls short.

Maybe it’s different if you read it? I’ll probably end up reading it at a later date.

I expected better.

I have been a member of TBM for a few years now. The book is just the main workshop on paper… nothing new; if you’ve been a part of the community for a while you don’t gain anything from reading the book. I believe the book would be more beneficial if new examples were given of others manifesting instead of repeating what Lacy has explained and the stories she’s shared of when and how she started hundreds of times.

I‘ve been a part of TBM for 6 months now and I can assure you, it works.

And although there was nothing new for me in it, it was an amazing reminder of the process. It was written in a very neutral way but it wasn’t shallow at all - quite the contrary, it dives deep into the process and got me a totally different understanding how it all works. This makes it much more accessible.

Gotta give it 5 as a TBMer! I always describe this style of “manifesting” as sneaky therapy. It’s more of a well-rounded, holistic framework to help people get to know themselves—their blocks, their wants, their patterns—better, rather than the more outcomes-based, “think positive” approaches. Still contains some woo woo, but I like a little magic in life these days. 😉

There are a lot of manifestation teachers these days, and I was expecting more from this book. I found the repeated labeling of other techniques as “superstitious” off-putting; she could carve her own lane without putting down others. The book didn’t offer any unique insights into manifestation for me, which was disappointing given the positive buzz I’ve heard from those in her program.

Love the TBM process! Did it for the first time in 2020. The only criticism I had was that the reading of the book for the audio version could have been smoother. All around, super valuable framework for manifestation that I have seen work over and over again for me.

Had to give this 5 stars because I’ve been such a loyal follower of the brand for 6 years and wholeheartedly believe in this method, although I still prefer the online platform. I think the book is a great place to start for someone who is new to the work!
