If you had told Vanessa that Marc, the guy she met last night in the bar, was going to be anything more than the one night stand she was anticipating she’d have laughed in your face. Her appreciation for the opposite sex goes no further than the occasional…all right, the frequent, one night stand.
He had wanted her. It had started as simply as that. Marc hadn’t thought past the challenge of seducing her away from the bar and nothing could have prepared him for what happened after he did. They came together like fire and two unyielding elements demanding everything from the other but only willing to give a fraction of themselves in return. He pushed and she pulled. She bruised his ego and he shattered her mask of indifference. It wasn’t love - neither of them was looking for that. It was an affair for control and it was toxic. He knew he needed to quit her, he planned to quit her. He just needed one more night.

Vanessa never dates anyone. She only does one night stands. Marc has never had a quick fling, but something about Vanessa pulls him in and he can't help but go to her. After a hot night which leaves them both thinking of the other, Marc can't stay away. He goes back again to her apartment the next night and surprises her. He's only in town for a week on business, so he thinks he can spend another night with her and get her out of his system. Vanessa can't believe he came back, more importantly that she let him. They continue to see each other and both fight their feelings. Will they be able to say goodbye and forget the other?
I liked Marc's character and Vanessa was okay. She's bitter about the life she has so I had to work a little to like her. But in her defense she didn't let anyone get close and had a selfish best friend, a pervy boss and a dishonest landlord.
This is a standalone which does have a happy ending, but it just ends. I would have liked more than than the phone call with mom.
I must say this story had me going, not knowing but hoping as to where it might end up. The story pulled out just about every emotion out of me, I laughed, I felt sad and happy all within hours. I'm posting this review after my second time reading this book and I loved it as much the second time as I did the first.
I enjoyed this book. Kept me on my toes with Marc and Vanessa. Not too find of Hailey and her selfishness, or her landlord. I wish there was a continuation so I could see if she reconnects with Haley and see how long they last.
I would recommend this stand alone and actually already have <3
